I had to dash into this garden centre as I was taken ill. I was on the floor at the checkout. I cannot praise the staff enough. They looked after me so well and were so kind especially jess and leonora. The management even opened the barrier after hours as my husband had to collect the car u was driving after it had closed foe the day.

The cafe does a heavily promoted Sunday beef lunch, but you had better be prepared to forego your breakfast and get there early if you that is what you want. The cafe apparently starts serving at 11.00 am, and runs out of beef at 1.00 pm, though apparently last week it was an hour later. The alternative to your Sunday lunch, cold ham, chips and two eggs, just hard lines if you had eggs for breakfast. To rub salt into the wound they have a notice on the counter stating that they do not do serve fast food, so presumably chips and fried eggs do not meet their criteria of fast food. We have spent a lot at this garden centre including garden furniture, but I think that it is time to start looking at the two other garden centres that are close by.

My mum and dad who are in their 80 s visited the cafe on Sunday for a light lunch . They’ve been many times before . My mum who has been poorly does not drink much so they asked for a pot of tea for one but an extra cup so that my mum could share my dad’s tea along with their sandwiches and cakes . A waitress bought their food over and an extra cup . Then an older waitress , in a very unpleasant manor came over to their table and said you can’t have that cup and took it away . My mum and dad were shocked by not only what she’d done but the rude manor in which she did it . Why when they’ve paid for one pot of tea can’t they share it ? These are elderly people . The way she spoke to them was so unpleasant . They will not be returning and reading other reviews it seems you have one very rude unpleasant person working for you and letting you down .

I frequently visit Ferndale and think the shop and cafe is lovely, I would also like to mention exceptional service from one or two of you younger staff they have working there. HOWEVER, I would suggest that Ferndale bosses have a real good look into the management they have in the cafe department. The sheer attitude one of the particularly mid aged (possibly menopause) women has is appalling. I have seen this towards other customers and SELECT staff, clearly has her favourites. This should not be acceptable AT ALL in a work place particularly ran by young people and I will not be visiting this place again after what I have seen recently. The garden centre just down the road is much more welcoming. Staff at these places get paid bare minimum as it is and to be spoke to how l've overheard is downright ridiculous. Hope this reaches someone with a bit more authority.

We've been going to ferndale for many years and food be nice. But today we went at lunchtime, and we had a turkey sandwich and a ham sandwich. Really disappointed, the ham was fatty unable to eat it all. Both sandwiches the bread was dry..the latte had gritty bits in the coffee.. very disappointed. We told the person clearing our plates away to mention it to the kitchen staff but no one came to see us...what a waste of money.

Had a really good trip to this garden centre today. Having not been able to find the honeysuckle I wanted at other garden centres we came here to see if they had it - it wasn’t out but they checked on the trolleys of new deliveries on the back, several staff got involved and they found the honeysuckle I was after, which I was really delighted with. Even if they hadn’t had it, it would have been a positive experience due to the staff’s helpful and proactive attitude. My mum and I felt really valued. Thanks Chloe and the team at Ferndale!

Dawn and I recently visited Ferndale and found the team very friendly and helpful . The site was laid out like an adventure trail, taking you into different areas and products thoughtfully displayed and knowledgeable team members readily available to answer our questions. Although the restaurant was closed due to Covid, the site had thoughtfully organized for a mobile food van to be on site in the car park ! A further example of thoughtful customer service. Highly recommended . Andrew and Dawn

Had a lovely lunch today with my elderly father, Was really pleased to see that full COVID precautions were in place from completing track and trace forms at the table to directional signage and safe ordering and delivery of food measures. The staff were lovely, in particular our waitress Kathryn and Chloe on the cash desk. A young male waiter also apologised for the noise building contractors on the roof were making which was courteous of him but it didn't spoil our enjoyment.

Cost me £22 for beans on toast (hard to get wrong by anyone's standards), jacket potato, sausage sandwich (for a 3yr old which consisted of 2 dried up sausages on a dried up bread cob) and 2 sml bootles of coke. Yes I said £22!!!!! The service was great, shame the food and price didn't reflect the same standard. The dried up sausage sandwich got left, the warmed up old jacket potato was half eaten and the beans on toast... well like I said, it's hard to get beans and toast wrong

We like the cafe in Ferndale Garden centre; sanitizer was always on the counter pre virus. Our cheese scone today was lovely and fresh and, as always, a good cup of tea to accompany it. However, when paying with my card the lady at the till failed to notice the conspicuous points card in my hand and didn’t ask if I had one. When I mentioned it she merely said that she should have had that prior to my payment. No apology, nor saying I could have points put on at the shop check out. There was no welcoming smile from this lady at any point. . A pity one staff member let the side down.

This overpriced cafe has never been at the top of our list for lunch, but today we tried again. What a disappointment! The hot Chocolate was so sweet I couldn't drink it. We had a scone which although small was actually ok. On a previous visit however I've had to return a Jacket potato for being undercooked. The service here has always been slow and unfortunately the new system hasn't made it any quicker. The worst thing about this place are the prices.Stating items are home made doesn't mean you should be charging 3.99 for a piece of Christmas cake and £3.50 for a sausage roll. From past experience the food here is expensive and mediocre at best.

We use Ferndale Garden Centre cafe quite often and generally it's ok, the food is simple which is what you'd expect at a garden centre, there isn't a lot of effort put into making it look nice on the plate but it generally tastes nice if a bit expensive for some things. The staff are mostly friendly and helpful, however, my low score is due to one member of the café staff who lets the rest of the team down, today, not for the first time, I witnessed her rudeness towards an elderly gentleman who was only enquiring about something he'd ordered very politely, she wasn't the member of staff he was talking to but got involved and was extremely aggressive and rude towards him, the other staff member looked a bit uncomfortable but said nothing. This isn't the first time I've witnessed this member of staff being rude to customers, everything seems too much trouble for her. I don't know her name, she's middle aged so should know better, she's got short dark hair and glasses, I'll definitely avoid her in future as her attitude makes me feel uncomfortable, maybe a little more training in customer service is called for.

We have been visiting the Ferndale cafe for years and been perfectly happy with the service, the staff being friendly most of the time and some of the food very good. We now find the food a bit over priced and the new system in place is a mistake not being able to take your drinks away with you when paid at the till causes a fiasco if you don't remember for example to order an extra pot of water with your tea so when you've waited for the staff to bring your tea they then have to return to your table with the hot water wasting time. I have to say the home made scones are delicious but I've always had a bee in my bonnet about them not being covered up. They are in double tiered baskets right at the front of the counter where the queue of people have to walk pass so everyone's breath, coughs and sneezes will go right on them, I thought a couple of weeks ago this was sorted as they were covered but on my return last week alas uncovered scones, can this be right. I will ask for one from underneath at the back but it's still not good practice surely to have uncovered food!!

We’ve been regular visitors to Ferndale for sometime now and I’ve always been very happy with the food we’ve had. Today we went for breakfast and I ordered an omelette with ham and mushrooms. When it came it looked delicious but as I started to eat I quickly realised it had cheese in it. I called over a waitress and explained I’d ordered my omelette with ham and mushrooms, not cheese. The waitress told me, “all the omelettes come with cheese.” Erm, not according to the menu - cheese is listed as one of the choices of fillings. I’m sorry, you can’t just put cheese in an omelette, what about if I’d got a dairy allergy??

We have been visiting the ferndale for many years and have always found the food very good and not too expensive. Unfortunately the last couple of times we’ve been that hasn’t been the case at all. Today I paid £6.95 for a jacket potato which wasn’t even worth half that price. The potato itself was very small and had obviously been pre cooked and reheated. There was less than a handful of salad chucked on the plate as a bit of an afterthought and the filling was very meagre indeed. Last time we went as a family it cost over £50 for 5 adults and one child to have a snack type meal which considering the portion sizes and the quality of the food, was very expensive indeed. We won’t be eating at the ferndale again which is a shame as it used to be so good.

It's sad when a good establishment loses the plot, and daft changes are introduced. You used to carry your tea away from the counter and you could have a weak or strong cup to your liking, but now you wait for the overstretched waitress to bring the pot of tea that has been hanging around for some time, and is well stewed. Therefore gave the restaurant a miss for a few weeks, but went in for sunday dinner today, and got more stewed tea and vegetables served in a tiny pot. Will give it a rest for a few weeks before giving it one last try.

Why do people change things that already work fine ? We have been coming to this cafe for years and enjoyed every visit. The owners for some unknown reason have decided to change the system of ordering and its a disaster. On Suday we had to wait 55 minutes for a coffee that included a 15 minute wait in the queue where we were given part of our order 1 scone and 1 bun .We then had to wait 40 minutes for the rest of our order which were only hot drinks and another bun . This is because your order is placed in a queue which can be behind orders for hot food .Before the change of system you were given your drinks ,scones buns etc when you ordered and paid at the till .This was a much quicker and efficient service and as we witnessed on Sunday ,there were alot of upset customers.

Three of us ate on Friday lunchtime, ordering hot drinks plus fish and chips x 2 and an omelette. Food was great. Would have given 5 stars, but it was noisy because it was quite full and there are no soft surfaces to dampen the noise. We had another hot drink later in the afternoon and sat outside which was lovely. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Nice food and coffee. Hard-working staff. Pleasant room if a bit noisy when full. BUT we have been coming weekly for years on Sunday afternoon and since the service method changed we have been waiting far too long. Last week 30 mins for a coffee and scone. The pattern has been clear since the changes: LONGER waits than before. This has been frustrating and spoils our visit so we will now be going elsewhere until changes are made that work. This has always been a favourite place. Lots of parking, nice and clean with friendly staff and great food at a good price. It is a very busy place but a while ago an extra till was installed and this made things much better. It was great to choose your own scone and pick your food up at the till if it was cake or snack and have cooked meals delivered to table. Today I arrived to find that the system had changed. You have to pick a table, go to the till and order everything which is then delivered to your table. I only wanted a coffee with hot milk on the side. As I was alone it was hard to mark a table and go to the till. I ordered. It took 8 minutes to arrive and they sent cold milk. Unfortunately I put it straight in. If I choose a scone I want to pick my own. I miss the rail to move along with my tray. This system is NOT an improvement. Will be looking for another cafe if things don't improve.

I don't quite know how anyone can make a mess of baking scones but even if they are baked fresh every day, which I don't doubt they are, they are always really dry and more like biscuits!! When you try and cut them they just break into dry hard crumbs. We went in the other day and there were flies walking over the scones as they are not covered so I was kind of glad I wasn't going to eat one!! The line can be long and the service slow, the cakes are cut unevenly so sometimes you get a reasonable piece and other times you get the smallest of slices which seems unfair as its not cheap but they are generally good. The meals are usually tasty, the sausage rolls and quiche are usually full of flavour although like another reviewer said they do reheat them in the microwave, fortunately I love soggy pastry!! The best thing is they allow well behaved dogs into the first part of the café which is great and means its a place we go often just avoiding the scones lol

Very disappointed that a cafe such as this one cannot poach a couple of eggs or even boil an egg on request. The staff were just not interested. I opted for a scone instead, which I'm afraid was returned due to being extremely dry. It crumbled to a point that buttering it was an impossible task. Again the staffs attitude was 'well it was baked this morning'. I was asked to take another scone. I politely refused. I won't be returning....

This review primarily relates to my experience in the restaurant. My partner and I enjoy eating at garden centres and in our regular haunts the meals are usually well prepared and plentiful. At the beginning of the year we visited Ferndale and were less than impressed with our scampi meals and shared pot of tea, both of which were tasteless and miserly in the extreme. Today however, we decided to give them a second chance to impress with just coffee and cakes. Sadly it was another let down. My partner was reasonably happy with his cream scone but my coffee and walnut cake could have been any kind of sponge with a sickly frosted topping. There wasn't so much as a sniff of coffee or walnut and I was actually grateful for the smallness of the serving as it was totally bland. My advice? Give the food a miss and windowshop the plants which are beautiful but extremely expensive!

The Afternoon Tea is excellent and includes a range of sandwiches, egg, tuna, savoury cheese and ham plus quiche, a variety of mini scones and mini cakes. All beautifully presented and ample tea or coffee with free refills. In comparison to other establishments offering afternoon teas, Ferndale most definitely offer good value for money and more. £20 for 2

Visited Sunday 11 March 2018, just me and my husband. Had beautiful Sunday roast. Large portions, plenty of meat. Vegetables served in separate dish with extra gravy and horseradish sauce. Delicious meal.Very busy and noisy but excellent service. Don’t be put off by the busy-ness. You order from the counter and can queue for a while but meal served within 15 mins once ordered and paid for. Also good for just cup of tea or coffee with large selection of beautiful home made cakes. Took home two pieces of egg custard tart. Yummy! Would prefer vegetables to be cooked more but that’s just my preference. May just ask if they can do that for me more next time we visit!

Visit here so many times with my family and the staff have always been great and helpful. The food is delicious, a particular favourite of mine is the homemade soup! The plants and decor are lovely and it is very beautiful at the moment with all the Christmas decorations!

We recently visited here for afternoon tea and it was absolutely lovely. There was such a good choice, there were various sandwiches, mini cheese scones, quiche, then a range of delicious mini scones and cakes and at £20 for 2 people such a bargain. The staff were friendly and attentive. The gift shop has some lovely things in it and the Christmas section (even on the 28th September) was huge with some really different and unique Christmas decorations. Well worth a visit.

The coffee shop and cafe is a real gem. I've had better food here than in many pubs and restaurants. All home made on the premises, freshly cooked and prepared. Good range of plants, gifts and garden furniture. Generous loyalty card scheme. Well worth a visit

Have had coffee and cake here a few times and it never disappoints. The choice of cake is brilliant. My friend had the scone and I had lemon drizzle cake. Both beautiful. Never ever stale. Always fresh. Coffee nice too in good sized cups. Friendly staff. A busy place.

This afternoon we popped into the coffee shop at Ferndale Garden Centre and on the spur of the moment decided to have afternoon tea. £20 for 2 people. It was absolutely delicious . There was a plate of assorted sandwiches, 2 pieces of flan, salad garnish, 4 small scones, cream and jam, a small selection of fresh fruit and an assortment of cakes.

This place is a hidden gem. We have had lots of afternoon teas but this one is by far the best so far. Food is fresh and generous. The staff are incredibly friendly and kept coming to ask if we wanted more tea and coffee

The Afternoon tea was well presented on the traditional 3 tier server. The sandwiches and quiche had a small salad garnish and the cakes were garnished with fruit (Grapes, strawberries, raspberries and blueberries). Both the food and service were excellent. And the tea/coffee is definitely unlimited..we had 4 pots of tea !!!!

Been here a few times and various items off the menu, that although pricey (as most garden centres are), were indeed tasty. The afternoon tea is delicious but I found the filter coffee way too strong and I do normally like a strong coffee but didn't like that one. The sacher torte they do is excellent. Although my last visit 2 days ago was disappointing....tuna mayonnaise sandwich was £4.50 maybe even £4.95 can't remember exactly price and it was just a bog standard two slices of bread..with a tiny bit of salad on side of plate ....well over priced. My daughter had a piece of gluten free chocolate cake £3.50, it was the tiniest piece (which surprised me as there cakes are usually generous)..definitely not worth the £3.50...maybe they were running out of it and were trying to make it stretch further. Staff are always friendly and helpful. So there you have it...my mixed revew

Called for afternoon tea, this has got to be one of the best we have ever experienced. Very friendly service and the food was freshly prepared, cakes were excellent and when they say 'endless tea and coffee' that is exactly what you receive. I cannot recommend Ferndale Garden Centre highly enough!!

I go here frequently for tea and cake or a light snack. Love the selection of cakes, scones and food on offer. Plenty of seating and nice to sit outside in the summer. Caters for everyone of all ages with activities for little ones and even a sand pit in the summer months. A lovely place to meet up with friends at all times of year.

I frequently visit the cafe and the food is of a consistently high standard. Last time I sampled a cheese and marmite scone that I enjoyed so much that I bought one to take home. A great venue to meet a friend for lunch and gossip.

I visited the cafe as a family of four for breakfast following a recommendation. First I ordered a bacon butty on white. The breadcake was verging on stale. No way it was fresh that day. Two tiny rashers of greasy bacon that were more fat than meat. They didn't even cover the dry bread. Awful, but even worse considering the price. So I ordered a gardeners breakfast. This was also very disappointing-it came with the beans and tomatoes mixed together on top of a soggy piece of toast. Had to ask for toast with the other breakfast because it didn't arrive with any. The mushroms were dried out and the bacon was greasy again. The egg had runny egg white too- Yuk! Local ingredients maybe, but still not good quality. The cakes look lovely but most are uncovered and thus are dried out and invite flies. Surely this can be easily sorted? I had two children with me that were twitchy by now so we left. Such a shame. It could have been fabulous. The log burner is a massive pull but we won't be recommending or returning for food.

Ordered a coconut milk caramel frappe vi drive through. Server did not add caramel. Assumed it was an allergy. Requested caramel so squirted across top. Argued that this was standard when I asked her to drizzle on sides of cup. Even suggested I take a picture if I wanted to complain. As I put window up to avoid further argument, she called me rude. So my first time leaving a review and will be putting a complaint in with photos. Thanks for the suggestion. Btw you were incorrect - check your own website. Threw the drink away, very liquid and tasted poor. A total waste of time!
