A friend and I visited this restaurant for a Sunday lunch. The atmosphere was relaxed with pleasant staff. The "Feast Burger & Chunky Sweet Fries" was bland. Portions were meagre. The food is nice, but way too expensive for what it is. Almost a tenner for an omlette with a tiny salad is a lot, no matter how nice the omlette. The 2 slices of toast (not home made bread, just regular toast) were charged at an extra 2.30 pounds - incredibel! I will not be back. For that price, there are cafés with much better service (you wait a while), much nicer ambiance (the room feels more like a canteen than a cosy café) and larger portions.

It was busy and the food on the tables looked great. Unfortunately my meal did not turn out that way. The food took too long to arrive. When it did, my burger arrived with bacon when I had specifically asked for without so it had to be sent back. I then had to wait another 20 minutes (after a 40 minute wait for it the first time), so did not get to eat my main course until my friend had well finished her spinach omelette. I wish I had ordered something else. When it did arrive it was not very good and chips and salad all very average. The water didn't arrive and I had to ask 3 times before it came. I think they were stretched and didn't have enough staff to manage the amount of diners in for lunch.

I last visited this place when it was called Cafe on the Hill. Now known as Feast on the Hill and adjacent to a deli of the same name. It has often been closed in the evenings except for the odd jazz night. Seeing it open on a Friday night at 8pm we took a chance and went in although it was only 1/3 full. We shared a crispy prawn starter with the ubiquitous sweet chilli sauce which was delicious. I had the burger in a brioche bun after some discussion with the waitress when I asked for it medium rare. It came as I wanted and was excellent with good French fries. (You have the choice of thick chips too).My partner had cod on a bed of pasta and said it could have done with more pasta. A so, so bottle of Merlot was £21. Mineral water is only available in small bottles. Pleasant and not too loud background music and good service from the one waitress (There is a 12.5% service charge). The room was too hot for me but my partner liked the temperature. By the time we left there was only one table remaining.

We were recently visiting from Chicago and staying in Muswell Hill. A delightful neighborhood, Muswell Hill has numerous choices for breakfast. When we arrived from Heathrow, we knew we needed some coffee and a full breakfast, and the woman renting our room to us recommended Feast--just a short walk away. We were not at all disappointed in our meals. My husband I each splurged on the full English breakfast, which was quite delicious and well-prepared. I chose a bagel with mine (not New York or Chicago, but fine), and my husband had a muffin. We liked the breakfast so much that we chose to return to Feast on our last morning before leaving for the airport (despite other options), selecting something a bit more modest: two fried eggs with a croissant for each of us. The croissant was so good, so fresh and appropriately flaky, that we ordered a third for us to share! The service is friendly and attentive. When we're in London again and staying in this area, we will definitely return, perhaps for lunch or dinner as well.

I live locally and have been coming here for a number of years. It is obvious the chef has changed over the last year or so as the cooking has deteriorated. A good example is fried eggs - they either come very hard or the white is runny. This has happened over a number of occasions in recent visits and is not just a one off experience. I have noticed they seem to have replaced the table sauces with an inferior brand. Shame as it has put me off coming here

Wound up at this place at about 1:40 in the afternoon hoping for a quick lunch before continuing my day. When I stepped inside the roar of Saturday shoppers, their kids and babies smacked me right in the face. So, I chose to sit outside-no, not a cute little rear garden or even a cordoned off bistro patio in the front. Just a few tables curbside with pedestrians, cars and buses passing. Took ten minutes for the waitress to take my order and after 25 minutes I still hadn't received my omelet and chips. The waitress did apologize and comped me a flat white coffee, but my frustration level was already over the top. When the food arrived it was okay, but at 8 pounds ($13) for eggs and frozen chips, definitely not worth it or the aggravation.

But that's a general complaint of mine. I think the music is probably enjoyed most by the staff. Everyone I saw there was either talking or reading the newspapers. They clearly welcome children as I saw families there using the highchair.

A middle class haven within a north London middle class haven. Feast is a continuing refuge for the dinky (double income, no kids yet) that populate Muswell Hill. You can tell this because the table layout is such as to preclude the manoeuvre of a push chair by even the most dexterous yummy (read: middle aged) mummy. The service was rather slow, considering the first morning batch of customers had fled to read the Guardian or go on a march or whatever it is one does when Mum and Dad pay the bills. Food was good quality, very good in fact but its probably my fault, my Essex chippiness was bridling. Bill took almost as much time to arrive as the food did to eat, contained a mandatory service charge which was obscene.

There is such a glut of cafes and restaurants around the Muswell Hill and Crouch End area that we tend to go to them in rotation. Subsequently, we haven't been to Feast on the Hill for around six months and was looking forward to going there again because their breakfasts were exceptional. I don't know if they have changed ownership but the difference was instantly palpable. Previously if you arrived for breakfast at around 11.00 on a Sunday morning you would have had to wait for a table. This time we managed to sit straight away in a restaurant that was less than half full. We ordered a vegetarian breakfast and a full English only to have two full English placed in front of us. This meant that we ate our breakfasts separately. I then pointed out that on the menu it stated that there would be tomatoes with a full English and there weren't any with my breakfast. By the time the waitress came back with the tomatoes I had finished my breakfast. No apologies, no reduction on the bill. Besides all this the quality of the food has definitely deteriorated along with all the other aspects of what makes a good restaurant. Sub standard food, service and ambience. Won't be going back.

As many reviewers have observed, this place looks really nice. It has tables both indoors and outside, and a reasonable range of food. I went there for lunch with my young daughter. I ordered an English breakfast, she Spaghetti Bolognaise. The bacon in my plate was dark and rock hard. I literally could not cut through it with the knife. It took me a while to alert the waitress, but eventually she arrived and reluctantly said she'd bring two fresh rashers. This took a good 10 minutes, by which time I had pretty much eaten the rest, my tea had gone cold and I had lost interest in the bacon - you get the picture. What is worse, my daughter's mincemeat came in two big clumps. When she refused to eat it, I called the waitress and pointed out the issue to her. Her response: "Nobody else has complained!" I asked for the bill and saw that no discount had been applied, although my daughter had hardly touched her food. I had to insist that they issued a new bill without her spaghetti dish. Throughout, I was made to feel like an awkward b... rather than a disgruntled customer who had good reason to be disappointed. I will never set foot in that place again.

I have been frequenting this cafe with my family for quite a while now as I believe that your local & independent cafe/deli has to be supported or else our towns and villages will be ruined by the coffee shop chains (Costa, Coffee Republic, Starbucks etc).Thankfully Muswell Hill has several of these independent cafes but I feel that Feast ticks all of my boxes. The service is relaxed and friendly - the same waitresses have been there for several years. This has to be a good sign. The staff are attentive and welcoming. There is a 'buzz' about the place with couples, individuals and families occupying what seems like the family kitchen tables. It has this personal , homely touch that I have seen in places like Canada and Australia. Most important was the gorgeous food, eggs benedict (£8.45) went down well, the full English (£7.95) - a monster of a breakfast and well, the omelette (£7.15) to beat all omelettes. fabulous food, great atmosphere and a great find in Muswell Hill.

It's one of the nice cafes in Muswell Hill, with a few tables outside on the pavement, a beautiful display in the window, an attractive lunch deal (except that you are told it's not valid on the weekend even though it is advertised outside on a Saturday afternoon). Once you're in, it begins to become very confusing. There is a big wooden table at the back and lots of products for sale on display (cholocates, drinks, biscuits...). You wonder if this is a shop where you just buy to take away and if the table is just there for decoration. The staff ignores you and you soon realise that you have to put your jacket on the bench to kind of keep your seat while ordering at the counter. From the counter, it is impossible to see the display of food because it is facing the street so, unless you have already noticed from outside what you wanted, you will have to take whatever you manage to see. You are also told that there is no menu. That makes it a bit akward because you also wonder how much things are, since there is no visible price on the quiches, salades etc. So, you come back to the table, hoping to find your jacket, if someone has not pushed it aside to sit where you were hoping to sit. The plate arrives: the salad portions are not very big but OK. When we finished, we went to pay at the counter. The staff was quite numerous (about 5 on Saturday lunch time) but they all seemed busy weighting stuff, looking around, filling shelves... We just wanted to pay and leave this weird place, not at all welcoming and go somewhere else for a dessert because really, it is a pity to have such a nice place if you are not able to give a smile. By the way, the food was good and the price was correct. About £15 for 2 small quiches and 2 small salads. The experience is just confusing and the staff not friendly. It's a pity,

We had dinner here and it was an absolute treat. The food was lovely, the service could not be bettered and it was just such a nice experience. Contrary to what another reviewer has said, they do take credit cards. It was also very reasonable indeed, where in London these days do you pay £13 for a steak? And a lovely one at that. I was particularly impressed by the two nice waitresses. Here is one rather unusual way I often judge a restaurant's service: my husband is a little eccentric and drinks ice in his red wine. So when we order a bottle of wine he always asks for a large glass of ice to be brought with it. I know it is a little unusual but it is not up to serving staff to judge people's preferences! However, he gets mostly very negative responses to this request. Most often it is simply ignored and the ice has to be asked for again (often several times). Sometimes it never comes, despite repeated requests, as if the staff is saying that the request is too odd to be taken seriously. Or a grudging single block of ice is produced. Or a sarcastic or suprised comment is passed. (and generally the smarter and more expensive the restaurant, the less likely they are to bring the ice on time and without fuss!). Well, at Feast, a nice full glass of ice arrived, together with the wine, within a minute of being ordered. No comment, just a smile. It put my husband in a very good mood. We had a wonderful dinner!

I often order fruit salad with meusli and yoghurt when out for breakfast. Normally I receive a good helping of all but here the fruit salad on this beautiful summer day was made up of grapes, kiwi, melon and pineapple, where were all the summer fruits and berries. To top this off there was a "sprinkling" of muesli and thin layer of yoghurt. I asked if it was possible to get a little more meusli and yoghurt to help finish of the fruit but was told frankly that if I wanted more I'd need to pay for another portion. I didn't want ask or need another portion, just a little more. The manager was no more help telling me that everything costs and I would need to pay. We won't be going back there again. Coffee wasn't that good either. They didn't take credit cards either which I always find a little strange.
