I had breakfast on the 7th January at The Caldecote. A few points 2 fried eggs. Very nice thank you. That's where the good news stops. Over re-heated baked sausages. The skins were grey. Horrid Warmed up rubbery bacon. Disgusting. Anemic baked beans. Ugh!! The bread looked nice but it was stale. It had obviously been sitting out since 7am (I ate at 9am) And they were big slices that were to big to fit the toaster so you could only cook half a slice! Would it be possible to get bread to fit the toaster or a toaster to fit the bread? Continental Breakfast? Has anyone at Greene King ever been to the continent and had breakfast? If they did so they would realise that a continental breakfast comprises more than stale bread, hard croissant shaped bread and plastic tubs of jam. My breakfast this morning was probably the worst I have ever had...... I recently stayed at an Old English Inn. Once again, a Greene King establishment and that was equally as terrible. Greene King should be ashamed of themselves. My advice AVOID Greene King establishments!!!!

My experience was horrible. I was feeling a bit peckish so I went in and ordered a bowl of fries. I was still waiting after 40 minuets, so I went to the counter and asked about it. It turns out that my bowl of fries was sitting in the kitchen for 30 minuets because the waitress couldn't be bothered to get it. It's pretty shambolic how we have to collect our own food in a restaurant because of a lazy waitress. I started eating them and realised that there was still some grains of rice inside the bowl!! So it hadn't been washed properly which was disgusting. The chips were stale, cold dry and tasteless. I asked for another bowl and the waitress gave me a dirty look which was very rude, considering there was still food inside my bowl from the last customer. She have me another bowl which still tasted stale, cold and old. But as I was eating, I saw more rice inside my bowl! So I stormed out because it was just ridiculous. A restaurant with 'professional chefs' are incapable of cooking a bowl of chips. As well as this, the place was old and dirty and everything was falling apart. Just disgusting.

We were a family party of 20, at least 6 of the meals were returned because it was inedible. No fish was available at lunch, they had run out. The rump steak was dry, overcook and didn't resemble rump, served with a soggy onion ring, tiny tomato and chips, no sauce and definitely not prepared or cooked with love. Slap it on and slap it of. The burrito is pre made and bought in wrapped in plastic and served with no sauce. We asked for the soggy onions rings to taken away and be re cooked so they were crispy. The children's meal of fish fingers was hard as a rock and smelt quite strong. The curry was cold and served with papadam, bread and chips. It was horrible. Chips with curry? The burgers were so over cooked they were almost black. This place needs a serious overhaul. The menu needs to be reduced to good simple local in season ingredients, that way you can keep a good stock of all your ingredients, for instance there was no fish, they had run out of fish at lunch. Learn how to grill a steak. Not sure if they is a chef or a cook but how can you honestly send out food that is not edible? You cooked it so you need to take responsibility.

Reserved a table for evening meal at start of family visit weekend. Sat at table having a drink in bar waiting for son and partner to arrive. So far so good. Guests arrived got drinks, suddenly we were being moved to a better table out of the draught of the door by a very pleasant server, perhaps this was our reserved table?. Settled at new table , we asked do we order at the bar to which he replied that he would take our order for us. Borrowed my pen from me to write it down ( we joked about not running off with said pen ) Ordered combo starter for 4,mains of mixed grill , 2 scampi and 1eight ounce steak plus side order of bread and butter. Starter combo arrived on large plate as you would expect but no smaller side plates were given, ended up using paper napkins to eat it from, GOODSTART!. Mains arrived or at least 3 did no sign of the 4th. Server made the remark of no mains for you to the table in general, to which we told him that yes 4 mains had been ordered the missing meal being the steak, with that another servers lapped a plate on the table and said bread and butter, both servers then returned to the kitchen, we assumed to return with the missing steak. HOW WRONG WE WERE. Some 15 or more minutes later we were still wondering and waiting for the missing meal. So a member of the party went to the bar to make enquirers as to how much longer we were going to have to wait. At this point I am not entirely sure what was said,we were sat at our table discussing the matter when suddenly someone appeared at our table whom I would imagine to be the restaurant manager, we were told that a steak had not been ordered , we pointed out that the server had taken the order ,written it down and had even read it back to us. After this the conversation about the missing meal became rather heated and we were told to leave the restaurant as we had been abusive to staff. Not so as the fault was of there making in the first instance. We duly left our meals uneaten and left the restaurant as requested. Two of us were staying at the attached premier inn ( good service as per usual for a premier ). Breakfast at fayre and square disappointing to say the least , coffee and hot water for tea in flasks no tongs to pick up bread for toast . Why use rotary toasters that either not cook the toast or burn it if you put it through twice. Second morning ordered porridge after a long wait had to ask for it to be told sorry we haven't any, so why ask as you come in if anyone would like porridge. OVERALL COMMENTS I feel we received very very poor service from fayre and square. The restaurant itself is very dirty Windows and floors need a good clean ( Friday nights food still on the floor on Saturday morning ) Chairs and tables also need a good clean (tables sticky chairs grubby) Will not comment on servers or bar staff as I am sure most of them are trying to do a good job under very poor managerial guidance.

So driving past looks amazing, the view of the lake with the pub and windmill next to it... seriously nice place to wonder. When it came to the food, sheer and utter shambles I say. First of all waiting for the food when the place isn't busy? Come on how long do we wait? This was just starters too. Overdone chicken wings? Then the main course just warm? I'm sure if you take that long to cook it then it should come out hot right? Well hey they haven't forgotten us but the taste. Now here was the worst pile of things (honestly I don't know what to call it and food is not the word) you eat to fill the gullet. No flavour. Bland. Uncooked chips. Mushroom cold. I tell you one thing that baffled me, how on earth do you get peas to taste so bad? Peas? Well I want to say rant over but it feffinately isn't. Your glasses are filth (I'm sure I asked for hair in them). Ok I'm going to leave it there and possibly think of not eating anymore. Definitely a place not to go.

We visited on a Friday evening. Booked a table online. Was told when we got there. Table hadn't been reserved, as they said it happens with online bookings. ... I ordered smoothered nachos to come.out with everything. It was bought out as a starter !!! I expected the nachos to be warm. They were like they had been tipped out of a packet and dumped some melted cheese and salsa on them. Not worth £4.99. I ordered the kids wraps for my little boy and myself. They were nice. But not a lot of chips. The rest of my family ordered gammon no egg with chips. XXL burger no mushrooms, it came with mushrooms !! And cod father.... gammon came with egg.. my daughter in law is allergic to egg. So not a good start. The cod in batter was very greasy. The XXL burger was big. With the smallest slice of cheese u have seen, the best part of the dinner was the pudding. Lemon meringue cheesecake and my sons had the pudding movie in a mug. I was dissapointed in my families meals, the sticky tables, and price of a soft drink £2.10. At the harvester the drinks are same price but unlimited. I will return and try something else with my husband. Hopefully it was because they were busy. But really that shouldn't be a excuse.

I try to be fair when I review a place, but this was just poor. Ok the food is cheap and I accept you are going to get a chewy steak for less than £9. But it is the lack of care. The food was cold, the chips looked like they had been laying around for an age, soggy onion rings and mushroom that were not hot. If they had taken the care to make sure everything was hot, use the same quality chips and onion rings but cooked them to order. I would have been posting a better review. There is a need for cheaper dining places , but this should not mean they can just be sloppy.Breakfast next morning was no better , £8.99 for a full breakfast, now the cheapness of the products really showed. Very sweet beans, mushrooms that looked like they were left over from the previous nights steak and a nasty sausage. Next time I stay at the hotel next door I'll drive into the town and eat.

Upon entering be prepared to be treated like a ghost, staff will literally walk right past you and completely avoid eye contact. Once you loose your patience (for me this was after the 3rd staff member completely ignored me) and decide to approach someone they will seat you. This is the part you will have your hunger tested to the extreme, as personally I found just for someone to come and actually just take my food order took a woeful 30 minutes. From here the food came at a reasonable pace and was good and definitely worth the money in fairness (the only reason I gave 2 stars instead of 1)However, a glass of water ordered with the food took a painstaking 20 minutes to reach the table. Yes that's right, it actually took someone 20 minutes to go behind the bar and poor a glass of water. Luckily I didn't die of thirst waiting for the water, and can sum up by giving some simple advise, if your feeling patient enough to give this place a go (I don't recommend it) Bring some snacks and a few bottles of water to keep you going whilst you wait.

Quite a nice setting so sitting outside enjoying a meal seemed an okay idea. Just as well as inside was wall to wall kids parties in horrible heat. Lot of insect life which isn't great when eating. Arguably that isn't the fault of the pub but the uncleared tables and general mess outside were presumably attracting at least some of it. We had walked for about 20 minutes from where we were staying and didn't know anywhere else to go so persevered anyway. The toilets were grim, surprisingly grim for a modern pub. Still, bit of a trip down memory lane I suppose- like the terrible loos in the pubs I went into in Coventry in the 80s. Service was friendly enough if painfully slow for three lots of fish and chips and a salad. The food itself was fine, everything else considered ( including relatively modest prices)- better than expected at this point although not amazing. The location is great and it's a very busy area, presumably they make a profit just on this but it seems an opportunity missed. I know it's a chain pub but it could be a lot better and I'm sure there are other chains that could make a better job of it. If it was cleaner, the loos done up, the service quicker and the food a bit better then the setting might make it somewhere for a return visit but not as it is.

I have to give a negative review because we were made to wait 70 minutes for our food. There was no warning that it would take a long time, and no apology when the food finally came out. No discount or free dessert etc. If we had known, we would have taken a table outside so kids could play while waiting for food, rather than have them ask "when's the food ready?" every 30 seconds. This was a sunday 2pm arrival so you would think the rush had already finished.Location is great next to a huge park with swings and lake.Food itself was average, fair for the price, similar quality to Wetherspoons but a bit more pricey.Interior was quite nice.Let down by slow kitchen and poor customer communication.

We had an evening meal on the way back from visiting the National Museum of Computing at Bletchley Park.It was a Saturday and although we hadn't booked, the waitress placed us on one of the reserved tables, which was really good. They operate a full table service, which if it works well, is ok. However when it's busy, you find that things take a little longer to arrive than just going up to the bar to order and pay.The meals were ok. The adults had the Chicken Curry Feast and Green Thai Curry Feast and it was not bad. Chicken was tender and you certainly got plenty of sundries (popadoms, full nan bread, mango chutney, onion bhaji etc.). Kids meals were ok too.Meal prices were very reasonable. If you're expeting Ritz quality food for a fiver, then you've come to the wrong place. The only niggle was the length of time waiting for the bill. Without being overly negative about this restaurant and pub - let's start with the positives. First it's a good location by the lake and handy for when you're having a leisurely walk. And it gives what you expect - which is a small selection of beers on tap, the usual couple of fruit machines and some cheap food.Food which is fine if you're just swinging by for say an early weekend walk and fancy some unhealthy all-day-breakfast kind of affair. There's no way you're going to come here and expect to get 5 star service, high end ingredients or stellar quality. It is what it is. But for a quick stop by the lake it works. It'd be great to see this place really invested in as it could be quite amazing, especially with it's location.

It's such a beautiful venue and I think it's a crying shame that is let down by inexperienced and rude staff. The owners of this pub need to sweep clean and start again, it could be a hidden gem with the correct management in place!

My sister and myself along with my nephew and great niece decided to dine here as it was my nephew's birthday and the prices seemed good. When my sister ordered 2 vegetarian meals of sausage, mash and peas, she asked if the meal was served with veggie gravy (we have been caught out like this before in Morrisons). They said no, so she asked for no gravy on both. When she told me they had no veggie gravy, i went to the bar and asked why the meal had a 'V' next to it but was served with meat gravy and was told they'd run out as it hadn't come in on the order. This was confirmed by one of the kitchen staff however no apologies were forthcoming. The meals took 40 minutes to come so i walked down to the staff station near to the bar and stood patiently to one side of a waiter using the computer. When he finished he walked straight past me ignoring me totally. When the meals (very small) arrived there was gravy on one. We said we didn't want meat gravy on the meal and was told it was veggie gravy after all. We tasted it and decided it was veggie so ordered some more for my meal. It was the hottest thing served the whole time as our meals were tepid. The peas were awful, we had to keep spitting out the skins in our napkins. The veggie sausages were a very strange consistency, possibly because they had cheese in them (we think). My sister was told they would be Quorn sausages but they had seeds and vegetables in with stringy bits of leek which was inedible. My great neice's children's meal consisted of salad, chips pork sausage and yorkshire pudding which was £3.50 but this didn't include a pudding or a drink. The 'pork' sausages in both her meal and the hotdog were actually cumberland sausages - which is an aquired taste (my niece did not eat them). When the desserts came (part of the 'Lunch Club' deal) the staff did not take away the plates, cutlery and debris from the main course and just left it on the table. There was a family complaining 2 booths down about the uncooked chips they had served to their children.I felt that had i asked for my meal to be replaced, the kitchen staff may have messed with it, so i ate about half of it.The profitteroles were ok, but were more warm than cold. The only upside was that my nephew enjoyed his hotdog (cumberland dog) and dessert, which he'd requested warm but arrived cold.It was a horrible experience and one which we will not be repeating. Needless to say, we did not leave a tip and we will be writing to Fayre Square directly.

Encountered the worst sexism for decades. After waiting patiently as barmaid dealt with family ordering ahead of me she totally ignored me and went to serve 2 men who had arrived long after me. When I politely ordered my coffee she said 'I need to check with these men that you arrived before them'. They were very embarrassed and put her straight. Training and manners needed.

We stayed here in May at the adjoining Premier Inn. The food here was some of the worst I have experienced in a long while. The salad was not fresh and the carrots served to my children I would not even have given to my dog! Prawn cocktail warm prawns on stale salad with a pot of gloppy sauce on the side, Even my young children commented on the yucky food!Tables and floor grubby, staff over worked, breakfast clearly warmed up.We had eaten at a Beef Eater the night before and it was head and shoulders above this. Would NEVER go to a Fayre and Square again and would not recommend to anyone.

We went for lunch with family but it seems to be a place frequented mostly by young moms (looking for some relief) and their young kids (overtired) after a walk around the lake. The food was mediocre, the screaming of young misbehaving toddlers (whilst riding their scooters INSIDE the restaurant) almost not bearable. We dined with 2 kids ourselves but never have we experienced kids being "let loose" without disciplining as here. We clearly missed the British "Super Nanny" as presented in the American TV series.

We drove from Scotland to spend a week cat Hong up with some friends and met up here for a meal, drink and chinwag. We ordered the food v(about 730pm) and was told it would be a 30 to 40 minute wait. The adults had the combo and the kids had the scampi. Out of the 4 adults, 3of the combos came in about 25 minutes but our friends one after going back to the bar to advise she hadn't recieved it got it 15 minutes after everyone else had eaten theirs. Also the combo for one states on the menu 'chicken wings'..when our friends one came it was only A wing, and it must of the been the wing of the smallest darn chick you've ever seen! The rest of us got 3 wings on our combos!(big deal you may think but it's the principal). Also as it was quite a warm evening the bar at 10pm had run out of soft drinks and most draught lagers. He bar staff had an attitude but the servers were helpful and pleasant. Fair enough it's a budget chain but you should still get what you ask for and be served with respect.

The food is what one might expect at a chain of restaurants, and is keenly priced. Unfortunately, it was let down rather by the service. The wine, Prosecco, was great value at £11.99, but the absence of anything to chill it with was pretty basic poor organisation, and the presence of only one person taking food and drink orders at 9pm on a Saturday night smacked of poor management. The breakfast arrangements the following morning seemed equally under-prepared, as if the presence of customers was a surprise. The staff were however, eager to please, and when prompted provided good service, making me think that it was leadership and training they lacked, rather than commitment to their customers. I would go there again if trying at the Premier Inn next door, as it is convenient and avoids the need for someone to drive and abstain from alcohol. The bar also closes at precisely 11pm, which is a bit of a surprise when staying at the hotel, for which it is the bar, particularly when no warnings of last orders are communicated!

We booked and went into Fayre & Square early - so there was no evening rush, it was almost empty. This is a pleasant interior under the old windmill in Milton Keynes, by the lake. Looks great. There is NO CHARGE for the car parks, don't know where someone got that idea from. It's all free. The food, I ordered their special beefburger - it arrived quickly, full marks so the next part defies all known logic. It was luke warm! The burger and bun were square (their little Fayre & Square named foible). CoolThe burger was a mere 4mm thick, less than half a centimetre, uniformly. There was a sad out of date brown piece of lettuce inside and a smattering of unknown sauce without a known flavour. The bun was square and only 1.5 cm thick in total; toasted to with an inch of its like and dry as the deserts of Arabia. Trust me I've been there, but the Beefburgers in the resturants are american style and wonderful; just not in Fayre & Square MK.The fries were limp, lack lustre and luke warm - remember this had just been cooked, no wait and not busy and just served.Wot? {insert your own expletives here} My family had a similar lacklustre experience themselves, but slightly better as it was obviously a boil in the bag dinner, and at least the water was boiling! Huzzah for Physics. I assume my burger just sat and waited to die a cold death whilst the water was brought to the boil for the other dishes; which explains the served temperature.Three days later, we had to eat without a reservation and popped into The Charter (Table-Table) in Aylesbury, I again tried a burger as I had not actually had a decent burger this month (only one a month) and it was the best burger I've had in years and really hot! This proves it can be done and that Fayre & Square should send staff to Aylesbury for re-training.This lack lustre attempt within Fayre & Square and the 4mm cool burger, means I will avoid the entire chain. The formula is wrong and any decent manager should have earnt his salary and changed the operation.

I don't know what the other reviewers were expecting of this place (mabe Heston Blumenthal or Jamie Oliver in the kitchen?), but of the many restaurants attached to budget hotels we have visited this was by no means bad. The staff were friendly and attentive, the food of an acceptable standard for the price and the place was clean and tidy. What more do you need?

Visited after swimming session and found the prices silly for what you get. The profit margin for them placing a tea bag in hot water (not boiling water) must be very high. Avoid as you can get similar for cheaper nearby.

Typical pub which has only modernised a little so still has the true pub atmosphere. Gone is the smoky environment and considerably brighter than the old days but still recognisable as a pub with staff of the ‘old school’. Good range of food though and on this visit we had the most delicious Lasagne which was served with an excellent Garlic bread and nice salad. Add a bottle of wine, couple of deserts and the bill of £56 was not bad at all.

We had been told that the Emporium had a new chef, and we were keen to stop off and try the lunch menu. We were served by a very polite young lady called Zoe, who explained the menu. I opted for the cheeseburger, which can be very hit or miss depending on the quality of the meat. My wife ordered a tuna toastie. After a relatively short wait, the food arrived, and again a polite young lad called Jake asked if we needed any sauces or condiments. I must say, both people who served us were energetic, polite, and attentive. The food was excellent, and the meat in the cheeseburger was of great quality and very tasty, as was the tuna toastie. All in all, it was a great experience—very well priced, with excellent service. We will certainly be back again."
