Inside of the restaurant is clean and cosy, staff are all lovely and smiley, food is perfection. My wachos were lovely and crispy and my partners burger was probably the best burger i’ve ever tasted! good prices too.

Had a lovely experience at the fat hippo today for my daughter's birthday. The atmosphere is cozy and trendy .the waiter was welcoming and helpful as one of .y daughter's has a lot of food alagies .the food was excellent for the prices one of the best chicken burgers I've ever eaten really full of flavour. Would highly recommend and hope to return again. Only one downside toilets are upstairs didn't see any disabled toilets downstairs but I didn't ask staff otherwise great place.

One of the driest chicken burgers I've ever eaten. The service was awful, we had a reservation but still had a 10 minutes wait before we were seated, 15 minutes to get a drink then another 15 minutes just to take our food order. When we finished the meal, we were kept waiting another 30 minutes before being asked if we wanted anything else or the bill, the one member of staff was eating behind the bar rather than serve or clear tables. No apologies for slow service no sense of the situation. A miserable experience, we won't be returning.

I have celiac disease and thought I would try this place, as said, offers a gluten-free menu. However, when I got there, they had no buns, as delivery wasn't due till the next day. I had my burger wrapped in lettuce. It was OK but would have preferred a bun, other than that food was good.

Burgers were good, however if you've tried a few burger places theres not a great deal that sets this place apart. Staff were a bit disorganised and the wait for food was quite long.

New Years Eve lunch with the family. Took a while to get our drinks even though we were the only people in the restaurant. Food was amazing.

Fabulous place! We visited last night for my nieces birthday and we were not disappointed. Excellent food and brilliant service, was served by a young lady Tulisha and nothing was too much. They even chucked in a free birthday shot for my niece who was very happy. Will definitely be visiting again for those wings!

This place was amazing!! The atmosphere was amazing. The staff were very helpful. We couldn’t finish our food but didn’t want to waste it so they boxed it up for us very quickly and it stayed warmed for a very long time.

Not worth it for the price, very small portions and forgot some of the fillings for my burger, however food tasted good, wouldn’t get takeaway again but will try the restaurant as the portions would probably be better and if order is wrong it can be corrected

Lovely meal and food came within minutes. Hannah was our server and she was great. My gluten allergy was also well catered for and the menu was explained to me. Would definitely come back!

Frickles Onion rings Fries Tatter totts Burgers 🍔 Two different burgers both bursting with flavours. Massive onion rings excellent crunch. Frickles are brilliant.

My first time and I won't be in any hurry to going back just thought it was just like any other burger place, nothing really stood out for myself. The hand cut chips looked they were brought in as they are all perfect in size. The burger was very average at best very dry and definitely over cooked. Staff did not seem interested apart from being on there phone. But what I didn't get is that you charge 6.60 for pint, so you would think then a half is 3.30 no it was 3.80 so you are charging an extra 50p for the half that is a disgrace.

Visited the restaurant a few days ago and was served by the lovely Hannah, she made our dining experience 10/10 and the food was lovely!

Amazing burgers, highly recommend

I've stopped here now for the third time this year and the burgers have always been really consistent and really good! The Swiss Tony is definitely the burger to go for, and the Irish One shake is to die for! However I do have one feedback that I'd like to be noted (I won't deduct a star as it doesn't personally effect me), the gluten free buns need to be looked at and improved. The last visit we brought a friend with us who orders gluten free items, and the buns looked so sad. Like really. I've purchased better looking and tasting buns from my local supermarket, so a chain restaurant like Fat Hippo at the prices they charge should definitely be looking to ensure their gluten free options are almost on par with the standard buns.

I left this place 10 stone heavier than I came in but it was so worth it!!! Amazing burgers and side options. Cool, industrial style decor, a great find for 2 hungry visitors to Cardiff! Nice central location too so it's close to everything else you'd want to visit such as the castle and shopping arcades.

First time I visited and was very disappointed. Was very grubby and dirty in there, The glasses they give for the drinks were still stinking with bits of food on, the burger I ordered was raw and and if i was to eat the burger I would have had food poisoning. Would not recommend this place 🤮🤮

Poor service. Waited over half hour and no staff is available to take the order. Left the restaurant and the staff took no action about this. I won’t recommend this restaurant.

Turned up without a booking and was seated straight away. Really friendly staff, big shout out to Marcy who was friendly and attentive. Food was great and huge portions. Definitely returning.

Stuffed! Man that was the third time of coming and I feel like I will waddle out of the door. Usually go for the Wild Bill burger but this time tried the festive burger…omg stacked! Loved it and love the grungy atmosphere, music and the staff are just lovely.

Firstly, they were more than accomodating, on a match day, for a large group of families. Being a coeliac, they offer a gluten free option for most of their food. Quick service and food served nice and hot. 5 stars all round.

The most disappointing experience. It was my first time to this restaurant. We were 5 friends came for a late Sunday lunch. And ordered 2 different wings for a start. Which were amazing. For mains, we ordered 5 different burgers. I ordered the Hans Gruber-Ger, and mentioned twice to replace beef with pork/chicken. First the order did not arrives for 45 minutes. Upon checking, they got the bill on the table instead of the food. We confirmed the second time on the status of the food. The staff was not helpful at all. So racist that they offered us the bill, a way to get rid of us without giving us the food. After long 55 minutes of wait, when we received the food. My Hans Gruber-Ger came with beef, I checked with the server if they removed the beef, and they said yes. Upon checking carefully, I asked them again, and they kept on reassuring that it was not beef. Due to religious beliefs, I can’t eat beef. But I rechecked with a different server, who upcoming third confirmation said it is beef. It was then taken back to the kitchen, and the beef was replaced with pork. I mean, are you running a restaurant chain or a food stall? To be fair, food stalls do end up doing better. BARE IN MIND, NO APOLOGY WAS OFFERED. Racist • Unapologetic • Terrible Service • Bad food.

Spent £15 on one burger. It was no better than what I’ve had from a burger van…service was absolutely shocking. Extremely disappointed, won’t be returning.

We booked ahead knowing there was a big international rugby game and wanted to ensure we’d have a place to eat. We followed the restaurant’s instructions to pre-order our meals and even paid a deposit. Despite this, the experience was incredibly disappointing. Our booking was for 8:45 pm, yet our food didn’t arrive until after 10 pm—over an hour and 20 minutes after we were seated. Drinks, which should have been straightforward, took 20 minutes to order and reach the table. While the food itself was good, the entire purpose of pre-ordering was to avoid long waits—and instead, we were repeatedly told, “Your food will be here in 5 minutes,” only for nothing to arrive. To make matters worse, we were rushed out at the end. Our desserts were unceremoniously brought to us in takeaway cups because, as a staff member informed us, they had “already closed 10 minutes ago.” Adding insult to injury, we were told we couldn’t even take the spoons. How exactly were we supposed to eat our dessert, ice-cream, without spoons? This was an incredibly unprofessional way to handle the situation. This experience fell far below basic expectations for customer service. Pre-ordering was pointless, and the rushed, dismissive treatment at the end left a sour taste.

Shocking awful takeaway ordered over the weekend. Waited over an hour for the food after having to chase it up twice. Food came stone cold and soggy, food was literally sweating in damp boxes was vile. Couldn’t eat and binned £40 worth of food. Rang and emailed but got zero response. Literally worst takeaway ever had.

Great space with very friendly front of house staff. Sadly we waited 30 minutes for our starter of cheese balls, and then a further 40 minutes for our mains. The food was good, good portions.

The Oxford dictionary refers to seasoning as; salt, herbs, or spices added to food to enhance the flavour. Luckily mine was covered in honey and it’s pretty hard to get rid of honey flavour. The chicken in my burger was fried in oil which clearly hadn’t been changed in a long time. They took over an hour to order our food and about 40 minutes for it to be served. Myself asked for dirty fires which they forgot, and also tasted of pure oil. Another one of the party asked for no jalapeños which they also forgot. The only good thing was the cheese balls. When added “bacon bits” was expected peaces of bacon not what seemed liked meat crumbs. Will not be returning, but will tell me people who I DON’T like to go eat there.

Food tasted nice but waited an hour from ordering to receiving our food in a nearly empty restaurant. When the food arrived it was cold and wrong the first time round. Definitely won’t revisit, pint was also terrible

Cheese balls were just a oily mess. My chicken burger was not good bun was burnt and the chicken it's self I couldn't eat looked a but pink to me. My partner had the peanutbutter one 2 patties one burnt the other raw. Even the fries tasted dirty. A lot of good left no one asked why. Would not be back.

Missing an item from the order.

Quantity is pathetic. Ordered dirty tots which were supposed to be loaded with toppings but they severly lacked these toppings. Same with the burger. I'm done being charged so much for subpar food. You don't get your money's worth. Things need to change and I won't be ordering from there until.

The beef burgers and chips were amazing but apart from that everything else was not nice . The chicken burger had barely any flavour and the onion rings were actually horrific. We also asked for another coke and it took them so long to bring it they gave it to us as we were paying the bill. Wouldn’t go again

2 years ago was amazing,but sadly, it changed Food over price and received cold after mentioned waitress attitude just horrible. I would not recommend anyone to go there! Don't waste your and your money there Sadly, it ended one of the worst place in Cardiff Don't even deserve a one star

First time in a Fat Hippo . Service was personal and efficient . The Born Slippy burger was superb , recommended ! Tried some of my partners buttermilk fried chicken , succulent and nicely seasoned .Get some Fat Hippo sauce with your chips you won’t regret it . We will be back. Tim and Maria

This is a brilliant space, with superb staff, including Luke who had energy for days and made some good recommendations. But it was let down by the food which was all a little bland, relying on spice to bring any real flavour. Even being able to order Iron Bru by the pint didn't really salvage it. Sadly I don't think it will be a place we would choose to visit again.
