Farmhouse Bistro in Birmingham

Thursday 31st October 2024, My husband and I came here for an impromptu lunch. We had not been here for some time. The Bistro had, had a complete make over and was very bright and fresh in décor and pleasing to the eye. The menu was as extensive as ever and had lots of interesting dishes to choose from. We studied the menu and made our choices and then went to the counter to order and pay for our food. The food when it arrived was served piping hot and was very well presented. My husband had the smaller full English breakfast which included a pot of tea in with the price, which he said was very nice and very filling. I had the three egg omelette with ham, mushrooms and cheese which was served with a dressed salad and golden chunky chips. It was really delicious and very filling. I washed all this lovely food down with a nice latte coffee. It was nice to spend a very pleasant hour and a half here. We will be returning in the not to distant future.

Have been going for years but moved away. Newly diagnosed celiac, they couldn’t offer a gluten free menu, as the kitchen is too small. Partner had food and food was pleasant. The toilets were dirty and dusty though.

Following the recommendation from friends, we visited for breakfast after a late night. The menu is wide with some interesting choices. We opted for one Full English, pancakes with maple syrup and bacon and an eggs Benedict. The pancakes were delicious, to quote my son who is a pancake aficionado! The full English was good with some very high quality ingredients. My Benedict was ok, but quite cold on serving, which was a little off putting. Coffee was excellent. The service is attentive and pleasant. However, the main drawback was the price; £70 for three breakfasts and drinks is in the higher side, in my opinion. All in all, it’s nice food in a lovely setting. Well worth a try.

Friday afternoon is not the place to visit here. Very busy. Not enough staff. Food not cooked to standard. Shame really as it looks a lovely place to visit 😊

Not allowed to swap breakfast items. I chose not to include beans with my breakfast - There was no price reduction but I was charged for the alternative item that I chose. Apart from this, everything was satisfactory.

Stopped off for coffee and cake, nice friendly cafe. Will be back soon for a full breakfast review.

Unfortunately, there were no gluten free cakes or vegan cakes today. A very poor selection of other cakes. Very disappointing. Serve different milks to cater for all diet needs.

Massive fish and chips. But batter undercooked and raw as too fat. Said not happy but no refund.

A distinctly average outing. This place is now too big and too noisy to allow a pleasant experience. The food was disappointing as it was over cooked and poorly presented. There are far better places to eat breakfast in Sutton so unless they improve the food and service, I won’t be returning.

Disappointing food. Tasteless sausages for the breakfast which were different from those served in the bap. Sausages and bacon both could have done with longer cooking. The chocolate brownie had a base which was mushy and undercooked rather than moist. It’s a lovely location and I really want to visit …. But I checked the hygiene rating after reading a review and it’s true, 1 star! Don’t think I will go again.

My favourite place in Sutton Coldfield. Exceptional views, friendly staff and freshly prepared food. Their cake selection is amazing

This place is disgusting, it’s overpriced, the staff are awful, inattentive and unfriendly. Inside was filthy, checked their hygiene rating to find it was 1 star! I asked for a plain cheese panini which took about 45 minutes to arrive, I was given one with ham and onion- When I told them my order was wrong, I was given a new one, the cheese wasn’t melted and it was clear that they’d just scraped the ham and onion off. It tasted awful and was inedible as I am vegetarian and have an onion intolerance. This place should be shut down as it’s clear they aren’t making any attempts to improve on their one star hygiene rating!

Wanted to go here but checked the Hygiene Rating before we did. I was glad that we bothered, it was inspected in August 2023 and given a one star rating!! AVOID!!

The location is brilliant. The food is generally very good but can be a bit inconsistent. The cakes are enormous and delicious.

Farmhouse Bistro is a fantastic place for brunch in Sutton Coldfield, but make sure to come early because it gets busy! Despite the crowd, the waitstaff was efficient and friendly, and the food was absolutely worth it. I ordered the eggs Benedict and it was cooked to perfection, with just the right amount of hollandaise sauce. The atmosphere was cozy and inviting, and I would definitely come back again for another delicious meal. If you're in the area and looking for a great brunch spot, Farmhouse Bistro is definitely worth checking out!

We visited for our coffee break whilst cycling. The bistro is lovely inside and the food is excellent. Great coffee too, we had two cups!

What a lovely lunch. The sun is shining, the views are stunning as far as the eye can see and the food is delicious. Eggs Benedict are always a favourite of mine here. These were no exception. Perfect eggs with an unctuous runny yolk served with quality ham on top of tasty griddled bread. Dessert was a superbly made Mango Bavarois. It went down so well and a great dessert for the warm weather. All accompanied by a long iced hot chocolate. Fantastic in every way. This is the way to have lunch out!

I came here with my friend for afternoon tea and a catch up & the food & service was amazing! Highly recommend & will definitely be coming back here again!

Come here regularly with friends and family. It's easily one of nicest places I've eaten at. The staff are wonderful and the food is always excellent! Great sized portions at reasonable prices and the cakes are out of this world! Can't recommend it enough.

3 times went there, 1 time food was really, really good, 2 times it wasnt even avarage. Unlucky or sign of lack of consitency. Kids loved goats and chickens outside but the farm restaurant is quite boring inside. Staff is top-notch though!

We came for breakfast it was delicious and cake yum yum excellent service, and all the boutique shops were so nice,we are coming back soon its our favourite secret place.

Took my partner here for a late Mother’s Day afternoon tea. We Absolutely enjoyed it! Sandwiches were delicious, service was outstanding staff were very friendly and the scones/cakes were just really really Devine. Definitely worth the money in my opinion. Will definitely be returning.

Mother’s Day lunch ruined!!!!! I booked a table for Sunday lunch on Mother’s Day. The food was absolutely awful!!!! 4 of us had the slow cooked leg of lamb. I have never tasted such tough lamb in my lifetime (I am 52). It was fatty, tough and completely inedible, and definitely not slow cooked or from a leg of lamb. The roast potatoes were no more than lumps of coal that couldn’t be cut. The vegetables were the only food we could eat. At no point during the meal did any one and ask us if everything was ok with our meal. I spoke to the waiter who came to clear our plates, and very politely asked him if he could give some feedback to the chef about the lamb as we hadn’t eaten it, he said he would. I didn’t want to cause a fuss and I was’nt requesting a refund, because the meal was a present for my 81 year old parents on Mother’s Day, but I would have liked for someone to have come and acknowledged we weren’t happy with the meal. Instead we just had dirty looks from people coming out of the kitchen. I live locally and wanted to support this local business, but quite frankly they don’t deserve it

It's lovely here. The food is impressive, great taste & great portion sizes. The service is always amazing. The menu has everything you want on it. Breakfast, lunch and dinner. Highly recommend whether it's just for a coffee and cake or a full on meal. It makes going to the Mitchell Centre worth it!

Delicious bacon buns and hot tea - started in the main room then second drink in the outer room which was quieter

Very good quality food with good service. It is expensive compared to other places but the standard matches the price.

Fabulous place, the food was restaurant quality. I had Irish stew and my husband had the steak pie which came with the most wonderful charred vegetables. Very good portion sizes and although a little expensive, the quality of the food was excellent.

Can't fault the quality of ingredients here, which are also cooked beautifully. Full English breakfast is around £12 but you really do get what you pay for here. By far the best bistro/farm shop in and around the area for what ive eaten so far. Butcher quality and freshly made. The omlettes are also amazing and great portion sizes.

Chef needs to be taught how to cook scrambled egg - they had obviously microwaved it for slightly too long & broken it up with a fork. Disgusting Try making it properly in a saucepan so it is soft & not rubbery. I don’t expect to pay for something I can cook better at home & I would not consider myself much of a cook. Disappointing

We had 3 cooked breakfasts here today and mine was piping hot and very tasty. Quite busy even though we were pretty early (9.30) but because of the Xmas holidays I suppose... Dog friendly too (separate area at the back). Staff very polite and alert, cleaned up quickly and efficiently. I personally found it quite loud (mainly from the counter where you order) but a large carton had just been delivered which caused a re-shuffle of machines so probably just a one off "criticism". Cakes looked amazing, especially the (multi) millionaires shortbread (see pic) which could easily feed the 5000... Would definitely come here again!

Went for breakfast, lovely food, lovel place and very lovely friendly staff.

Been here twice now, absolutely sublime Sunday roast,with delicious braised carrots and cabbage, loads of meat and delicious sugar snap peas. I picked the lamb in this case, which came with a mint sauce - sadly not a jus, from a jar - probably Coleman's - the only minor flaw to the dish. Also includes gravy and roasties too of course! The quality of this plate of food is what you'd expect from a high end restaurant, with a lot of thought and effort made into its ingredients. Supreme value for money(under £15 as my memory serves me) , and very, very filling!

We had Sunday lunch for 3 adults and 2 teenagers. My London loving brother said it was the best meal he'd had up here

Truly wonderful Sunday roast in a relaxed and unpretentious setting. Only downside was i didn't have room to try one if the delicious looking puddings.

Very limited menu , pricey and lack of space and noisy due to this. Just went with all day breakfast as main meal daily choices on the board was not very appealing. They seem to pick items that was easy to cook for them and profitable so don’t expect fish and chips or steaks etc.

Lovely spot for lunch outside on a sunny October day, food was excellent, mine was simple but was superb , poached eggs on a muffin with mushrooms and hollandaise sauce, perfect eggs, obviously free range. She who must be obeyed had the bacon and Brie with sultanas and cranberry which I was told was delicious…. Not the cheapest but the food was excellent, the service was spot on and the portion size is more than enough.

First visit here for breakfast. Really impressed with the full English. Everything was really good quality, ie Lashford sausages, lovely toasted bread, and good selection. The staff were really friendly and nice. I think overall one of the best breakfasts we’ve had in a long time.

Food was good large portions, drinks very good. Staff seem better very pleasant. The only thing is it needs to be clear in the menu that main meal orders are not taken until 12:30 as in the menu it says 12:00 . Still a very noisy place and found it difficult to have a conversation.

Was very disappointed with the menu range!! Googled for good Vegan places for our day out at Cafe Ceramica and this place came up!! When we got there I asked about there Vegan options and the ONLY thing Vegan there was the scones!! But yet 80% of their advertisements online are Vegan treats and yet there was nothing!!

We've never had a bad meal from here, love the breakfasts and the monthly specials, are recently, I had the ploughman's and my husband had the fish and chips, both meals were full of flavour and large portions, to the point where we struggled to finish!

Our favourite brunch place, the nicest Eggs Benedict and Eggs Royale you'll find anywhere and yummy fresh cake options. On weekends this place gets very busy and finding seating can be tough. Tables are packed together quite tightly in the main seating area and it can be hard to hear your dining companions talk over the noise which ruins the atmosphere a bit. Tends to be a bit quieter in the marquee area. Service can be hit and miss on weekends but on weekdays it's a great little place.

This was our first visit easy access with mom in wheelchair. Ambiance was really inviting, great selection of food, drinks and specials. Mom had a ham and mushroom omelette and I opted for the egg Benedict with cheesy fries. The food was excellent, well presented and a good sized portion. Drink were good we also had a scone, cream and jam but we were to full to eat those so bought them home. The staff were friendly, polite and helpful. We will definitely go again a really enjoyable experience. X

We sent an email to try and book a table father's day, but we did not get a response. When we arrived, we were told we could not have the Sunday roast as we had not booked. We then ordered from the specials. The spaghetti with meatballs had too much oil. The crispy calamari was overcooked. My fork was not clean, so had to ask for another one. The cakes were delicious though and the service was good.

Lovely homemade food in a nice friendly place. Be prepared for your food to be over half an hour late on busy days.

Three of us went for a girly catch up. Wow the quiche with goats cheese was adorable and the beef sandwich was something else. Fantastic food and as always excellent staff. Great place see you again soon!

We have been here previously for breakfast. The Pancakes are so tasty. We came here yesterday for a Sunday dinner, big portions, plenty of veg and would come again. The only negative is the roast potatoes were hard in the middle. This place has a friendly atmosphere.

Breakfast was fresh and well cooked. The veg sausages were very good. Nice seating area outside in an open field (particularly on a sunny day). Would recommend 👍

We have just been for the most amazing afternoon tea. The sandwiches were delicious with a range of breads and fillings such as smoked salmon, thick ham and mustard, avocado and sun-dried tomato. This was followed by a wonderful scone and a choice of cake which was enormous. The best afternoon tea I have ever had. And the service was excellent too 💕

This was my first time to the farmhouse Bistro. Me and my friend only had hot chocolate and cake. My friend had the pecan pie ( enough for 2 people ) and I had the blueberry gateau ( again enough for two people ) really nice food, portion size really big. I took my other half for my partner . Would go there again and would recommend the cafe. .. no booking needed.

Poor quality food. A simple meal cooked very badly. The large portions served do not make up for poor quality food. Did not reply to a kindly written email. Says it all really. On a previous visit lunch was also poor microwaved food, and not consistent among the people who ordered the same. We shall not visit again as there are many nearby places serving good quality meals. Such a shame.

A lovely little bistro we had Afternoon Tea which I don't normally enjoy (you don't get enough s/wiches the cakes are cheap frozen bites) But the sandwiches here were made from different breads, fillings different from the norm. Scone lovely texture & taste you chose a cake (large!) from a good selection. couple of us are pescatarian which was no problem to the very friendly staff ☆☆☆☆☆

Visit regularly and always receive excellent food and service. Today orders the Sunday chicken roast. Places normally bring a small plate for your veg. Not the Bistro. Another large plate of buttered leek, carrot, roasts but made even better by the barbecued chicory. Amazing food !!! £18 for a large Sunday dinner and latte. You must try this place.

Both the value breakfast and the farmhouse breakfast are good for the price. Service has always been exemplary but the real 5* goes to the cake selection. Banoffee pie, fridge cake and Malteser cheesecake all good but the pecan pies were amazing.

We had a large breakfast, and although it may be slightly higher priced the food is very good! Definitely a nice little treat and the cakes look fantastic. Coffee and breakfast for 2 reaching £30 isnt the cheapest but it is one of the nicest breakfasts you'll find around.

Thursday 22nd December 2022, My husband and I came here after putting a wreath on my uncle's grave. We arrived and quickly found a table, we collected a menu and looked at the many varied things on offer and made our choices and went to the counter to order our food. The food when it arrived was hot and very well presented. My husband had a mushroom, ham and salmon omelette with chunky chips and a pot of tea, which he said was very nice. I also had an omelette with mushrooms, ham and cheese served with chunky chips and a salad garnish and a latte coffee. We spent a nice hour and a half her and the atmosphere is nice and the staff are very warm and welcoming. We will definitely be returning here in the not to distant future.

Had a surprisingly good lunch with a filled baguette and a haloumi burger and chips. Both were generous portions and very tasty. Backed by calm and efficient service this was a good find!

What a great place. First ,We had a bit of misunderstanding about the table but it was sorted straight away, staff were so lovely especially Nikki she was very helpful and nice . Although we were a big table but food arrived quick and it was delicious ,can't fault it. Definitely recommend 👌

Often have poached eggs on sourdough toast here with a pot of tea. They have a good selection of cakes on offer too.

I’ve had so many lovely meals out here recently. With friends visiting from across the country, Ive been taking them here as a nice way to show them the area. And it does our lovely countryside justice. Staff are lovely. Food is great. Couldn’t recommend...

Can't find much to fault this place on. I've only ever been for breakfast so i can't comment on lunch or dinner but I'm sure they are just as impressive. Farmhouse Bistro is in a great location, plenty of parking available. In warm, clear weather you'll get some nice views if you decide to eat outside. Large variety of food on the menu, freshly cooked food, top quality taste. Very friendly staff - always polite and attentive. This is one of my "go to" places for breakfast on a Saturday morning
