We had visited about two months ago and had an amazing Sunday lunch. We took our daughter for a meal this Saturday and it was so disappointing!! It totally lacked care and attention. It was cold and the food was very basic, no veg, poor presentation, scruffy cutlery, serving spoons to eat pudding with.. and all charged at premium rates. Very disappointed!!

From start to finish it felt like something was missing. Upon arrival the table was not ready. When the Sunday roast came it was apparent there were no Yorkshire puddings and very little veg. We weren’t told about the great Yorkshire pudding shortage and a simple would you like anything else instead wouldn’t have gone amiss. Sadly after looking forward to this roast, it was rather disappointing.

A temporary road closure at Flaxpool meant we had an interesting detour to get to the pub from Watchet. Narrow single-track roads with grass growing down the middle took us through the hidden charming village of Combe Florey to this iconic thatched roofed pub. I had an excellent Shepherd's Pie washed down with delightful Loaders Real Cider from Cotford St. Luke down the road. My two female companions had great meals from the set menu which offered 2 or 3 courses. Service was excellent and the atmosphere in this cosy traditional pub was to be recommended on a quiet Tuesday lunchtime. Many diners were out in the extensive garden with its pizza oven.

If I could give this place no stars I would Absolutely horrible night to be honest This was a 60 th birthday family dinner for 6 Not a great welcome to start with and an empty restaurant Alarm bells started ringing straight away Seated in a dark corner with the curtains closed !!! Awful old fashioned mats and thin paper napkins and sticky table Should have walked out then really Took ages to get a drink / wine order in and then took ages for it to turn up at the table Then it took another age to get food menu and then another wait for it to be taken Then things weren’t on the menu such as the chicken Milanese then they decided they had another menu to add to the original choice so that took even longer to come back and start again Waitress didn’t know what some of the items on it were and then asked one of our group how they’d like their pork cooked !!!!!! Then they came back to say they didn’t actually have any pork and then they decided they found a chicken Milanese after all !!!! Starters were very basic but ok at least edible if not very inspiring Then we waited ages for our mains and then when they came the waitress didn’t know if it was pork ( didn’t have any earlier !!!) chicken beef or lamb !!!! My steak was inedible and it was so tough I couldn’t cut it with a steak knife at all My peppercorn sauce tasted like curry sauce snd everyone tried it and agreed so it wasn’t just my tastebuds playing up The duck was uncooked and cold The chicken scewers were tasteless and overcooked and the chicken Milanese came out 20 minutes after all the other mains My son took one look at it and simply refused to taste it as it looked so awful I paid for our starters and drinks but refused to pay for the uneaten meals (I paid £200 !! ) and asked for the owner to get in touch to discuss She did phone the next day and she had been told we hadn’t paid anything!!!! After a long discussion and lots of excuses / reasons why it had gone wrong that evening she offered to refund my £200 That was gratefully received but to be honest I would have been happier to have had a great night and good food and I would have paid the £360 bill quite happily and keft s as good tip This was a totally ruined birthday dinner and we couldn’t go anywhere else as we’d been stuck there nearly 3 hrs already

We arrived late in the day on a Tuesday evening, and despite how busy they were, we were warmly greeted, and had an open an honest conversation about how long it'd take before they could seat us. At all times, the service was excellent, as was the food. The location, while out of the way, is lovely, and the pub and seating were a really nice place to enjoy our meal. I highly recommend the restaurant, and if we're passing through, or staying in the area again we'll be sure to return.

We went here tonight for our anniversary meal, not a great experience. We both had skewers which were new to the menu, well over priced, just basically a plate full of chips, chicken was not piping hot. Just slightly warm. Staff members all arguing with each other whilst we were sat outside having drinks, not a very nice experience hearing everything when we were trying to enjoy our evening. Would definitely not go back to this place after tonights experience and would not recommend. Not professional at all.

I was delighted to see the Farmer's Arms at Combe Florey is fully open again. On impulse, my wife and i dropped in for lunch on the way to Minehead - and we were delighted. We wer made most welcome by the landlady. We had the Farmer's cottage pie with seasonal veg, which proved a tasty dish. They have developed the outside seating area amazingly. There are long beches, many uder cover - to shiel against strong sunshine and the occassional shower! Amusingly, one of these long covered bench and table areas is called 'The Botham Stand'! I think they do outside pizza nights. Moving back inside, i was imressed by the good range of ciders, beers and lagers. This friendly pub is well worth a visit!

2nd time lucky we popped by Tuesday evening to be told there would be a 45 min wait on food so went else where, we booked for Thursday night, I spent ages trying to find somewhere that served a fish fish dish (non battered) which there was on the menu online but unfortunately the menu had changed in the meantime don't get me wrong the food we had was lovely we had fish cakes with chilli jam as a starter and I had the shepherd's pie which was lovely and my partner had the steak which looked lovely she loves her fish so she was a little bit disappointed not to able to have a non battered fish dish but that was just are preference, we would definitely look at maybe visiting again if staying nearby it was a lovely cosy pub

Been meaning to go here for some time, pub is absolutely lovely, warm and cosy. Chose the beef for Sunday lunch which wasn’t the best, a bit flavourless and chewy but the veg was gorgeous- best parsnip ever! Husband had the pork and that was good, crispy crackling and tasty gravy, very nice staff and reasonably priced.

If you like raw vegetables this is the restaurant for you. If you want your guests to wait for your vegetables to be cooked whilst their meals are getting cold this is the restaurant for you. If you want to entertain your guests and then suggest that the kitchen is poorly managed after the meal you will be told that you must complain when the foods is served and then suffer the consequences of very poor kitchen management while someone actually cooks your vegetables and your guests have the choice of waiting to start their meal until someone actually attends to the proper cooking of the vegetables whilst their meals get cold or going ahead and eating their meals whilst you await the arrival of the properly cooked vegetables. Either way the service is very poor indeed and especially so whan you are asked to pay the full amount allegedly owing for a half cooked meal. My advice is go elsewhere. Andrew Werrell

We called in yesterday 10th September 23 for lunch about 3.30. I asked the girl if the roast beef was tender and she said yes. I couldn’t chew it let alone swallow it. When the waitress asked if everything was ok I replied no and asked if she could replace the beef with pork…the answer was no! So I paid £17.95 for a plate of roast veg! Not the way a chef should be treating his customers! Would never go back!

A beautiful chocolate box thatched pub in a pretty Somerset village. What could go wrong? Well, turning the garden into an outdoor pizza restaurant doesn't help, and having pop music playing at full volume from an outdoor disco doesn't help either. The only people who seemed to appreciate this were the teenaged kitchen staff who spent their time loafing around smoking while listening to the music. The management need to get their act together.

Booked for 8 people at 8pm on a Friday night. Got there early and the pub was very busy with people eating both inside and out (always a good sign). Despite our early arrival the friendly waitress Sophie checked with the chef and was happy to take our orders. The food was all very tasty and cooked well, I especially enjoyed my South African beef skewer cooked on the outside Argentinian grill. All in all a great experience, good food, excellent service and a fantastic atmosphere, I highly recommend.

We had a beef skewer, a halloumi skewer, fish and chips, burger and a wood-fired pizza- all of which were truly scrumptious dishes. The chunky chips were the best I’ve ever tasted! Excellent value too for high quality ingredients. The service was also first rate , and we were warmly greeted at the bar from the start. Top drawer roast dinners for the grown ups and two enormous ‘kids size’ fish and chips for the youngsters. All really well cooked - the veg was all super fresh and brilliantly well put together on the plate. Super generous portions giving great value. We had the pleasure as a large group staying nearby to experience a fabulous pub a little off the beaten track near West Bagborough. The settings were outside and beautifully done and arranged with lights and heating. We were a large party of 13 and visited the pub last wednesday evening. Our table was ready and we were given menu's straight away. They took our drinks orders and came back very quick with them even though the pub itself and outside were pretty full. Meal orders done. The starters all came together and were very tasteful and different. Main course then served again all at same time and was beautifully hot and tasty. Everyone had a fabulous time and hopefully go back again something when they are in the area. Well done Farmers Arms and a special mention to our servers for the evening Ashley, Kelly and Ben. ALSO good luck Ben in Whistler, enjoy all of it, It is an amazing place and I wish it was us going. THANKYOU all so much for a wonderful evening.

Booked a table for a late lunch today for us with our 2 dogs. Turned up and both car parks were full but some staff were in front of the pizza shack so we asked if they knew where we could park. They kindly said we could park the car there in front of the shack which was great as my husband has a severed achilles and is still in a fixed boot so can't walk far. This was our introduction to the wonderful, polite, attentive staff at this pub. We were shown to a table outside which was our preference with dogs and because it was a lovely warm Septemberday. We were able to get fresh water for the dogs and swiftly given menus and served with drinks. We took a while choosing our meal, not because this is a multi-page laminated menu but because everything looked so good. There were 3 menus, a pizza menu for what looked like great wood fired pizzas, a main menu and a specials menu. Menus change according to what's available locally and seasonally which is how we like to eat.I opted for the seared scallops, my husband for the tian of Brixham crab. We didn't have to wait too long for our starters to arrive and they were delicious. My seared scallops were cooked to perfection and the fresh green accompaniment of warm peas, samphire, courgette and a pea puree was fresh, seasonal and really tasty. My husband also proclaimed his crab delicious. For main course my husband had the hand pulled, slow cooked lamb shoulder with chive mash and honey roast carrots. I had the sea bass fillets on spiced couscous with Samphire. Both our main courses were superb, clearly the chef here knows how to put together flavours and the quality of ingredients were top notch. We were feeding each other forkfuls of our meals so we could savour both our choices.I was too full for a dessert but hubby managed the dark chocolate mousse and I was allowed a very tiny taste and it was goooood, chocolatey, rich and yet light with fresh and candied strawberries to cut through the richness. It was a shame we only discovered this pub by accident (mentioned in a campsite review) as today was our last day in the area. We do come down to the area regularly so will definitely be back.We eat out a fair bit at some nice establishments and both agreed we couldn't remember a better meal out. I wouldn't be at all surprised for the chef here to turn up on Great British Menu or professional Mastercard. Thanks everyone for making the last day of our holiday so memorable.

Had my birthday dinner here and so pushed the boat out to 3 courses. Portions are large so perhaps less is more but the scallops were good. I had the rack of lamb and my wife had the seafood mixture (both >£30 but worth the money) - the portions are gigantic and the produce is undoubtedly good quality. It's well set up for inside and outside seating but you'll need a satnav to find it unless you're local

We popped in while travelling around Somerset for the bank holiday weekend, and I’m going to go so far as to say this may be the best roast I’ve ever had. A bold statement The place is a quintessential English country pub, but the food was way beyond the regular pub grub you’d normally get. The beef was just unreal, with a pinkish hue and a beautiful smoked taste, I have not tasted a roast like it. The chef knocked it out the parkAs for the staff, they couldn’t have been more welcoming. The kids were a bit grumpy and on the hangry side after the drive, but nothing was too much for the staff and we were sat outside swiftly under a thatched table and orders were taken swiftly My only disappointment is that we live so far from here, this would be a regular for us There’s no doubt we’re coming back when we’re in the area

Booked a table for 2pm for Sunday lunch. Starters were great but sadly Sunday lunch was really disappointing. We ordered 3 pork roasts and 1 beef. The pork came without crackling which we then asked for and when it came it was like rubber. The roast potatoes were burnt, the veg was over cooked, cauliflower cheese was cold and the pork was left over bits with the majority of it being fat. Then when giving feedback to Jane the owner, it was not well received and we found her to be very unprofessional. We were told the food is cooked in the morning and that we ate late on in the afternoon. Our opinion is that food should be served to the great standard the establishment strives for throughout the whole service; the time food is served should not be an excuse. Will not be returning or recommending the Farmers Arms. The waiter we had though was great and the owner could definitely learn as to how to deal with customers complaints from him.

With hindsight, I should have commented on my Cauliflower Steak when it arrived. The menu described the meal as “cauliflower steak, French beans, broccoli, pea purée and some sprouting garnish (watercress I believe)”. That is exactly what I got. All for £13. It was all either steamed or boiled. It was a side dish of vegetables. No protein and no imagination from the cook. Also, it was not seasoned at all and I had to use salt on it for the first time in any restaurant. I have cooked cauliflower steak my self and I’m not trained.Last year they had a very good vegan choice and I commented on this to the staff. What has happened? I have been going to this pub for 20 years. I wasn’t going to complain, as I had decided never to return. However, a member of the staff asked how was our meal and my wife raised the issue. I would have expected the owner or cook to come over and explain but they just said goodbye as we walked back to our car.

We visited The Farmers Arms as a party of four adults and one child. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel extremely welcome, always a good start! Every single member of staff made the effort to speak to my four year old son and he really enjoyed a laugh and a joke with them. We all commented that the outside eating area they have put up, doesn't feel like a 'make do for now' space. It was comfortable, extremely well laid out and just overall very impressive! Every table has its own heater, and lovely throws to keep you warm. The staff were very attentive and kept our drinks flowing nicely. All with happy faces and some friendly banter along the way! Our waitress had excellent knowledge of the wine selection and nothing was too much trouble They all seemed to be enjoying themselves too, which created a wonderful environment to be in.And now for the food!Starters consisted of scallops and the fishcake. All beautifully presented and extremely tasty. Three good size scallops (perfectly cooked) and a big chunk of bread. And a good sized fishcake which I can assume (coming from the yum noises made!) was just as delicious!Staff asked if we would like my sons pizza brought out with the starters (which we did) and his eyes lit up when he opened the box! It was huge! He had fries to go with it and the portion was equally as big! The outside pizza oven is a really nice touch and smelt amazing. As did his pizza!Mains created a collective 'WOW' when put down on our table. My partner and I shared the Chateubriand and it was just outstanding. It was the kind of meal that just made you shut up and eat. Every mouthful of meat, melted in my mouth, the salad was perfectly dressed, the mac and cheese was creamy, and the fries satisfyingly crisp! We asked for a couple of items that weren't on the menu, some onion rings, a Stilton sauce and a red wine sauce. To our delight the chef accommodated our request, and we were very grateful! The others had the pork belly, and again, it looked and smelt amazing! Crisp on the edges with meat that melted in the mouth (so I'm told!).After all of that food, of course we had to try their desserts!Dark chocolate fondant. Just incredible! The perfect balance of sweet gooey chocolate and tartness from the berries, and the warm pineapple. The coconut ice cream didn't even touch the sides!Trio of strawberry, well I saw it put down and when I looked up it had been finished! I am told that it was the perfect pud to end a perfect meal. And that's exactly what it was. All of it. A perfect meal. A perfect location. A perfect setting. Perfect staff. A perfect evening!

We enjoyed a lovely family evening here. Tasty, fantastic food and drink in a wonderful garden setting. Tim and Jane have gone over and beyond to offer comfortable, Covid safe outdoor dining with imagination and style. Attractive thatched covered seating areas with heaters and even blankets to keep you snug. We also sat on deerskins covering the seating. The outside Pizza Shack and outside bar is an added bonus - there is something for everybody here. Tim and Jane have obviously worked so hard to create this haven for their customers and no expense has been spared. Well done both of you. And well done to your hardworking and cheerful staff too. We also enjoyed live music from a duo playing Greek music - wonderful. Thank you again for a most enjoyable evening.

Wow.... an amazing effort has been made to make outside dining an enjoyable experience, even when the weather is not so hot! The outside space has been designed beautifully, with separate areas under their own thatched roofs, with electric heaters and blankets provided. It really does look stunning. There is a pizza oven and outside bar as well. We didn’t order the pizza but had a taste of one and it was a great starter! We then ordered various things of the menu and everything was beautifully cooked. The wine and ales were excellent too. We were celebrating a 50th wedding anniversary and there was live Greek music playing in the background. What more could we ask for. Well worth it, and shall definitely be back again soon. Well done to everyone involved. A great job.

We stumbled upon the Farmers Arms on a ramble of our nearby countryside. It has the facade of a Munich Oktoberfest beer-garden, but once you’re through the door, it’s a bubble and squeak melting pot of classic English cuisine - from curry sauce lovingly lathered on the scotch egg to the pork belly chilling on a mattress of Brussels sprout. This place is special - tell your kids to tell their friends.

It is like putting on a pair of cosy slippers coming to the Farmers Arms for anything - drinks, lunch or supper. You are always made feel welcome and, almost more importantly in these strange times, safe with every effort made to keep customers socially distanced. Food is always good - burgers are a failsafe and the venison was cooked en pointe. Mulled wine delicious and there is always a good range of wines to choose from. Even if we have to sit outside, the tables are covered, there are heaters, reindeer skin rugs, blankets, fairy lights - everything to make your visit as comfortable as possible under the current circumstances.

Beautiful old thatched rural pub visited with friends on a Friday evening. Two areas where you can eat, outside by the pizza oven or indoors in the restaurant. We ate at the far end by the fire. Thought I would try their meat feast pizza. Certainly worth the wait, fresh from the oven, thin based, well seasoned, extremely tasty. My wife enjoyed her rolled shin of beef. Serving team helpful and fully Covid aware. Enjoyable evening would recommend.

We visited here for an evening meal (family). The staff were friendly , they were professional re COVID processes that need to be done. It is decorated very much as a country pub, with stuffed pheasants etc & clean. The food was ok ( although my daughter didn’t really enjoy hers - too salty) , it came at a good speed but it was very disjointed, as staff apologised as the bar was still set up for outside ( when we sat at a table near the bar inside) so kept getting our drinks from outside. But it was also odd as they couldn’t give us a print out of our bill, as the till was playing up.

We arrived in Crowcombe (a village up the road) where we were staying for the weekend. We popped to the Farmers Arms on Friday night for dinner. We were made to feel very welcome (including our two dogs) in what was obviously a very “locals” pub. It was very COVID aware with such a lovely atmosphere with delicious food and superb service (from Kelly in particular). We loved it so much we eat there again the following Night and were not disappointed. The food came out piping hot and the mussels were Devine... they even made them into a main course for me the second evening! Compliments to the chef. Would highly recommend.

Like many people these days we like to eat outside, and here they have gone to great lengths to offer outside dining eating on tables sheltered under mini thatched roofs.and it would seem there are heaters for when it gets colder. We enjoyed a two course lunch which was very good and for those who don't want the Sunday roast they had a choice of two fish dishes. We had the hake which came with some Samphire, excellent !We will return soon.

Chocolate Box Perfect with food and service to match. We are staying within a mile of this pub, at Foxcombe Lodge. We booked for Sunday Lunch, 2 tables of 6. A great choice of menu plus the wonderful pizza option. Extremely well organised with top notch delicious food. Of particular note was the warm welcome and the service. We would recommend the Pizzas, Prawns, Mushroom on Toast, Lovey Puds and the cut of Roast Beef was delicious. Wine is reasonably priced for a great bottle of Sancerre (we had 3!) at £29. We would return but food is Thursday to Sunday so we will probably miss out. Super COVID friendly. Prompt service and extremely well organised. Thank you very much.

Re-emerging from lockdown, with excellent distancing and sanitisation measures, the Farmer's is providing its full dining experience again ... and it's really good.Food for our party was excellent: two shared the pave steak and pronounced it heavenly; I had the mussels which were excellent, as did another in our party; my daughter had the sea-bass special which she loved; and the fish and chips were up-to-scratch too.Very attentive service; excellent range of affordable beers and wines, and a lovely atmosphere.Really great night out celebrating A level results!

Quite nervous about going out after 3 months in lockdown but Tim and Jane made it all so easy, having made enormous efforts to make the outdoor eating area and bar accessible and safe. Not only are the pizzas to die for, but the ambience and welcome you receive on arrival is priceless. It is always full, a testament to the popularity of this pub and I am so glad it has survived so far. Will be back!

Lovely food but didn’t say anywhere on website was outside only and had to sit on benches where it was starting to rain and had a young child. Felt quite offended when said had to pay straight away before had food in case we run off? but tables all around us didn’t have to do that? Can’t fault the food but need to advertise that it’s outside only

I battled with my better half to convince her to come today, first day back after lockdown with our eldest. She wanted to wait till everything calmed down.We were so relieved and assured on arrival. Jane met us on arrival, logged our details and arrival time and Emily showed us to our pre booked table (book in advance guys). Was great to see Richard and have a decent pint. Then Tim’s pizza turned up, the meat feast. It was amazing, the best my 7 year old had had in centuries apparently...Then the food from the kitchen. Wow. Goats cheese mousse was a work of art and though it needed a little more crackers blew the Mrs away. Then the lamb and steak. Bravo.Well done guys. Until we don’t have our pubs and restaurants we don’t realise how important it is for social interaction, decompression, sustenance and general well-being.So much effort but in the long run everyone that experiences this will trust and value you and the Farmers team so much more.Thank you.Greg, Bee, Sonny and Max x

After 103 day we were very excited to come back to our local pub and see old friends. Tim and Jane did excellent job making sure place wasn’t overcrowded. There was sanitiser everywhere and information about keeping social distancing. They created all new outdoor space that was friendly and cosy and kept with the character of the pub. But the most impressive was the food. The new Chef Ben created some beautiful dishes for us. It was more of a fine dining rather then pub grub. We really enjoy our steaks , lamb not to mention my goat cheese mousse. Tim perfected his pizza my son thought it was the best he ever had. We are looking forward to coming back on Sunday.

first sitting for Sunday lunch for six. Nice and airy upstairs. Very friendly and efficient service. We had carrot and coriander soup, perfectly cooked scallops, and moules for starters all reported to be excellent. Then pork loin, half chicken, scampi, and monkfish. Finally treacle tart and pannacotta . Pork loin wasn’t quite the row of sliced loin I was expecting, but nevertheless perfectly OK. Puddings very tasty. Not high end dining, but for a Sunday pub lunch most enjoyable. It was very busy so booking best. Obviously has a good reputation locally and deserved.

Used to be a regular when run by previous owners & was looking forward to visiting again when the new owners took over, unfortunately they suffered a devastating fire so had to wait. Finally made it back for Sunday lunch in Dec 2019 & tbh I was bitterly disappointed. The decor was lovely, they've added extra tables upstairs but I'm not sure they can cope with the extra covers ..... The meat had obviously been pre-cooked & just re-heated as had the potatoes, portions were small, vegetables used to be served separately so you could pick which veg you actually liked/ wanted, now they come straight on the plate, food was luke warm & service was poor. I appreciate it was a Sunday & they were busy but if you're going to add more tables you need more staff. Won't be visiting again

Please be very wary of booking any kind of function here. Our experience was of booking for my wife's 50th birthday one year in advance. Booking accepted, we sent out invites and people began booking hotel rooms etc. We received a phone call a few days ago, telling us that they were cancelling the booking. They had a story about double booking us with someone who made a tentative enquiry two years ago(!), but it is clear that we have simply been bumped for a more lucrative offer. It is so disappointing when a business treats potential customers like this. I would strongly suggest looking elsewhere for any important function.
