Farmers Arms in Cheshire East

Love the refurbishment at The Farmers. No food as yet so I couldn't give 5 stars. The bar staff are so friendly and welcoming. Looking forward to visiting again 🥰

Great friendly place to drink with good value food too

Never did i imagine that The Farmers would be somewhere I no longer wanted to visit. I have been used to the highest level of hospitality in there over the years and it was the only place in Poynton i wanted to go to. The new 'Manager' lacks any personality or people skills. I have seen with my own eyes how rude he is to the female staff members, and customers, and for me, seeing the staff who have survived following Martin's departure, looking sad and nervous when he is around, breaks my heart. Maria has been the face of The Farmers for as long as I can remember. She has always gone above and beyond for everyone who walked through the door and the new Manager could learn a hell of a lot from her experience there, yet he is bringing people in with the same lack of friendliness and people skills that he has, from god knows where! To top it off, I was physically sick when i walked in the ladies toilets last week, the smell from the sanitary bins was absolutely vile and they clearly haven't been emptied in months, as the smell was the same in December. I had to leave as there was no way I could use the loo in there. The facilities were always immaculate when Martin ran it, and i can't comprehend how in such a short space of time, it could turn so disgusting? Possibly because the Manager seems to be a 'Man's Man' and isn't interested in the experience in the pub for women? It's all well and good doing a refurb, but Robinsons have got the wrong person for the job given the clientele from this lovely village we live in!

Went on a Saturday night very welcoming atmosphere friendly staff food was good we had the Fish and Chips and Steak pie good value for money will return.

Appalling lunch. Waited an hour, soup was cold, (and like really cheap tinned soup) rarebit was burnt and hard, club sandwiches turned up with no bacon or mayo as described. Childs burger turned up with barbeque sauce etc , not child's burger. Food looked like it was thrown on the plate. Waiting staff were lovely though. Still £41

Excellent meal for a group of 12 of us for my dad’s birthday. Excellent attentive service, lovely freshly prepared food and they helped us with a surprise cake and candles I brought with us and gave us plates and cutlery to have the cake for our pudding. Nothing was too much trouble. Thank you Farmers Arms team xx

i came to the farmers arms last weekend with my mum and was served by Kyle who was amazing and so attentive, always making sure we were okay, such a superstar!!!!!

We've been coming here for years. What was once the centre of Poynton with a great atmosphere and a friendly manager has become dire. The once happy staff still try to be fair. Food finishes very early and what we have seen come out the kitchen is very ordinary. We won't be coming back anytime soon. Just look at the other pubs and bars in the village. You'll see ex-farmers clientele. Robinson's act before its too late.

Went to the farmers arms for Sunday dinner with my boyfriend. When we arrived we were greeted and seated pleasantly and ordered drinks. There was no Sunday menu on the table, however on the website there is both a main menu and a Sunday menu. We asked the server if they did any roasts and she replied I think it’s chicken and went to check. As this is what we was after we ordered the chicken dinner, I asked if they had Yorkshire puddings and cauliflower cheese and she went to check for both and told us they can do Yorkshire puddings but not the cauliflower cheese that is stated on the online menu. We then received our dinner which was similar to a child’s portion. The vegetables and Yorkshire pudding were clearly frozen previously. The roast potatoes and stuffing were rock solid, the chicken was not like the roast chicken you get normally it was grilled and the gravy was watery. The whole late was bland and tasteless. Me and my boyfriend have never sent food back before and we both decided we have too and that we don’t want anything else just to pay the bill. We told a young server who was very understanding and apologetic and she told us she will speak to her manager. The manager then comes over who was our server to begin with and says to my boyfriend “what was you expecting” and said she can only take 1 meal off the bill when it was very obviously poor quality for £14.95. As both me and my boyfriend didn’t want any trouble and just wanted to leave we paid this. The Sunday roasts on their Facebook page look lovely, nothing like what we were served! It seemed like they just whipped up a dinner for us as the ‘’manager” was very unsure of what they were serving.

Fantastic midweek evening meal, followed by quiz night. Our server was Natalie, who very friendly and made sure we wanted for nothing. Food choice and quality was excellent. Quiz night was very enjoyable with a great quiz master (Andy) who encouraged interaction from the teams. All in all a great night out and will definitely be back for another.

As a visitor from Leeds, this was a lovely recommendation of where to go. Situated on the lovely, quirky high street of Poynton, this is a nicely presented pub with a good choice of food and pleasant staff. The interior is nice, clean and welcoming. I feel you can tell a lot about a place by the toilets - theirs are nice, clean and stocked - definitely on the top end of pub toilets. Staff were pleasant and a small issue with food was resolved quickly and with no fuss at all. Apparently it's due for a refurb in March, so I'll be back after to see how they've improved it.

We met here with a group of walkers. We like the venue, the decor is nice and a pleasant place to be meeting him. We all ordered food and drink. We waited a long time for food, 6 having just soup, 2 having a meal. The best way I can describe the soup is dismal. Quarter of a bowl of carrot soup which was lukewarm served with bread roll that was still frozen in the middle. I sent my soup back to be heated up and also asked for some more to be added to the bowl, which I was prepared to pay. It was returned to me much hotter but still no more soup. It was literally quarter of a bowl. We all sent our bread rolls back. To be charging £5:95 for that, I think, is taking the Mick. The two people eating a meal didn’t seem overly impressed. One had asked for chunky chips with a meal but she had fries. I’d unlikely to eat here again, but would call in for a drink.

A pub which is in transition to become a managed house

Far too expensive for what it is. Pub was mostly empty and there was no atmosphere - unsurprising when a pint of lager and medium white wine with a dash of lemonade came to £16.40. Really not sure how it could possibly have to come to this but didn’t risk having another to find out. Moved down to The Cask where the same round was less than £10.

Used to be great for food this place not that good anymore.

Eaten here before and it was really nice but our recent visit was a disaster. We will never ever visit this place again

Terrible service booked for 9 people told no booking received told no preorder given then found after 30 mins found main meal served before starters food only warm will not be going back again spoilt the get to gether

Twenty-five of us from Higher Poynton Tennis Club met for a meal at the Farmers Arms to celebrate the end of of another great season, on Saturday 11th November 2023. Food and service were excellent. A big thank you to Chef Darren, Manager Valentino and everyone else who contributed to the success of the evening. Annick Spibey, Club Secretary.

Called in on Saturday for Birthday drinks with my family, A beautiful pub with very friendly staff, loved the quirky decor.

Just brill all round, friendly and VFM

Ordered loads between the three of us. 5 tapas, 2 mains, 2 loaded fries. Food came out quickly, was hot and delicious. Service was great! We will be back!

Very expensive so won't be going back

The service was so poor it ruined our evening. As two ordered starters the rest had to wait almost an hour for our mains. Our grandson got his pizza when we had almost finished our mains, despite being told numerous times "it's on its way!" Poor lad had to wait so long to eat. We were given drinking glasses as we ordered water with our drinks. We asked for the water several times.The waitress kept coming and looking! We eventually got Two bottles! The only consolation was the food was fine when we eventually got it. Needless to say we won't be returning or recommending it!

Nothing has changed since my review last September. We ordered Tapas hoping for a treat. The sausages and chicken wings looked as if they hadn’t been cooked! Very pale beige and tasteless. We visit here a lot for a drink but the chances of eating...

What's happened to the Farmer's? The food we had from the Sunday menu was awful. I had roast beef which was so tough and grizzly I could hardly cut it. The whole plate was awash with a strongly flavoured watery gravy, even the courgettes were swimming in it. For the £17 price tag I expected a lovely roast, nicely cooked and presented, not a poor school dinner.

Beautiful decor. Great food and reasonably priced. All staff are lovely and helpful. It is very clean with good facilities and lovely outside seating area. Definitely recommend.

Today 4 of us came to visit I asked what sandwiches did they serve to be told they were no sandwiches as NO bread! I then asked what was the soup being served to be told there is no soup as no time to make it. It's shocking !! better of going to one of the little cafes across the road.

A group of 6 had booked a table in conservatory part of the restaurant at 7.30pm. When we arrived we were told there were no tables available in the conservatory area & we were seated in one of the bench seats. We suggested that they push two empty tables together in the conservatory but we’re told they could not do this. So we reluctantly accepted our bench seats. Whereupon we were told about the dishes which were no longer available on the menu. We then tried to order wine to be told that the 2 Sauvignons on offer were sold out! We settled for a bottle of rose. This was not going well & the waitresses were young & seemed unable to make any decisions & there did not appear to have anyone in charge. The food when it came was fine but we decided to have another bottle of Rose to be told that they had run out of it! We were offered another Rose which we accepted ( having little other choice) So there were three popular wines which were advertised on the wine menu were unavailable. This you have to remember is 7.30 on a Saturday evening which you would have thought would be a popular dining time. This really was a disaster from beginning to end & I certainly won’t be returning to this joke of a restaurant!! They need to up their game & employ experienced restaurant staff & a manager to manage the restaurant.

Beautiful pub and location. Didn't eat but menu looked fab. Location amazing and highly recommend.

I appreciated the humour of the person who served me even if it was unexpected, and had a nice fairly chilled time here — I’ve always liked the cow that has greeted me here (not a member of staff but a photo I’ve posted here 😂)…. I think that however, £6.35 is the most I have ever paid for a Guinness so beware of that, I guess! Still it was enjoyable, and understandably I savoured it lol

The pastry on my cheese & onion pie needed a sledgehammer.

Lovely pub, but they are having a laugh on beer prices. £6.35 for a pint of Corona in any Stockport borough is daylight robbery. Spoons, less than a 5 minute walk away, yes a different proposition but it's £3.71. Almost 100% more.

Unfortunately it's too expensive to eat here for me.

I went with friends for lunch. We were kept waiting for what I considered to be far too long at the 'please wait here to be seated' sign but once we were in the service was excellent.

We've eaten here plenty of times and the food is delicious!! I asked for the sticky beef chilli salad even though its not yet back on the menu, the chef was happy to do this for me, it's the best sticky beef salad I've eaten....

Adult meals fine - traditional steak pie with proper chips or mash and gravy. Child's hot dog disappointing. Service rather lacklustre; all a bit tired after Christmas and New Year celebrations.

Lovely restaurant with friendly staff. The garlic bread was delicious, as were all our mains. We had pies, pizza, fish and chips and plaice and everything was lovely.

Attended at pub for lunch today. The service was very good. I had a mixed grill and my wife had fish n chips. Both meals were superb.

We have previously been to the Farmers Arms on many occasions, so was looking forward to this pre Christmas family get together. We were a party of 8 and there was only one other large table occupied at the same time. Although the food was reasonable, the meal was ruined by the lack of customer service. One of the young girls that served us was unfriendly to the point of being rude, she didn't smile once, everything seemed like too much trouble for her, she didn't ask if everything was okay, she was also extremely scruffy. My daughter works in hospitality and she was surprised at the total lack of customer service. Needless to say we didn't leave a tip and it has totally put us off coming here again. We had booked for Xmas eve but have since cancelled.

Came for lunch on Sunday before Xmas - appreciate it was busy but we had been asked for a pre order in advance which apparently didn’t make it through so we had to give them the order again on the day. The food was generally nice although the roast lamb was tough and looked more like beef than lamb! The service was somewhat lacking, the staff were not particularly friendly and didn’t seem to know what they were doing - they approached us with “beef Wellington” which were in fact our vegan wellingtons. Wouldn’t recommend the coffee - we asked for cappuccino which came out more watery than a latte, and they did try to rectify this but the second offering was as bad as the first. The Baileys cheesecake was nice though! - I should say that they did take the items that we complained about off the bill (which we do appreciate, thank you!), but unfortunately our experience was not as good as it could have been.

Visiting the area and brought my MIL for an early dinner at the Farmers on the 1st December. We had a lovely experience, staff were excellent and the food was delicious, very enjoyable experience. Impressive menu and tempted to go back again before I leave...

Popped in for a tea & coffee. Coffee wasn't that good, unfortunately.

There were 24 of us, from Higher Poynton Tennis Club, who celebrated our end of season meal on the 19th November 2022. Valentino, the Manager, was very helpful with preparing for the event. He let us celebrate in the "Orangerie" upstairs and when we arrived, candles were lit up to welcome us. The food was excellent, served by a very friendly staff and the evening was a huge success. Went for Sunday lunch, really fresh Calamari to start, followed by Beef Wellington, washed down with a few glasses of french wine. Wow what a lovely meal, fine dining in Poynton, well done the Farmers Arms 👏🏻

Appauling - If you want to pay £13.50 for 2 spuds, one broccoli a few peas with watered-down gravy then come here, the vegetarian option was not available so I had the vegan chicken which may as well have been the cardboard menu, the menu would have been as dry and as tastless... never again

How can a pub like this be in such a rural lovely village and not let dogs inside (not even at the bar), this is ridiculous!! Everywhere else lets them, very poor from the 1 pub in the village, wont be returning again.

Had a gammon 6oz steak with peas and chips. Gammon steak was under Cook onion rings were cold and mushrooms were not nice as well as this it's was alright. I would recommend the farmers arms..

This pub used to be top notch but the food is poor and service very hit and miss. We went for Sunday lunch and the beef was chewy, vegetables were sparse and other menu options not available. Please sort this out!

I attended farmers arms poynton on a Friday lunch with my partner we were pretty new to the area we pulled into the car park and ordered our drinks we also intended to eat but half way through our drinks the bar man came over...

We choose The Farmers Arms regularly for last minute catch ups, family celebrations & Sunday roasts! The team are always friendly & accommodating (Even when we add another 4 guests to the booking). The new menu changes & specials menu offer something abit different &...

I can’t recommend the Farmers Arms highly enough. We all had gorgeous meals, service was excellent and great value for money. A lovely place and we’ll definitely be going back.

We have eaten here a number of times over the years, usually with visiting family. It has always been very good. Our recent visit was hit and miss. Vegetarian options were extremely lacking and we learned the menu was changed regularly but not updated on the website!!! It was quiet, however we probably would have spent twice as much on beverages, had the waitress bothered to check, other than when ordering and serving food. Overall the food was enjoyable, however when a main course arrives several minutes after other party members main courses, the service is questionable. As it was my meal that took an age to arrive, 3 stars is generous.

absolutely amazing meal! the pie and chips were so tasty and filling but omg the gravy was out of this world, you can clearly tell the chef cares about what’s being put on the plate! The onion rings were immense too!! and dogs ARE ALLOWED outside! Great afternoon spent here, would highly recommend!! The staff are so helpful and friendly too!! Thank you for a lovely meal

Limited vegetarian options for adults and only one vegetarian choice for children which is margherita pizza, really disappointing. It's not fair that there are 3 or 4 meat options and only one food my son can have. I reached out to them to ask why this is and if they would or are considering more options and never got a reply. I went in today for a quick lunch (without my son) and it looked as if the adult veggie options have also depleted. Safe to say we won't be bothering going in anymore.

The only vegetarian option for children is a margherita pizza whilst meat eaters have three of four choices. I find this really poor, not even a pasta choice at the very least. The veggie option for adults is extremely limited and appears to be depleting...

Good location but no parking. V nice place food and sevice excellent.

Food was terrible. Not even Pub food standard. Attitude of manager when I made a valid complaint was less than acceptable. Customer service terrible, and a smell of cannabis wafting in from the beer garden. Avoid.

Service was fantastic, food was delicious. Recommend the home made steak pie. Defiantly worth a visit.

Well what can I say, visited as a party of 3 couples,the decor is very appealing.Our waitress was outstanding and is a credit to this establishment,the craic we had with her was unreal, she'll be badly missed as she's moving to Paris for work. I had the fish and chips,best I've had in a while followed by chocolate brownie and custard. The buckets in the male toilets were a new experience lol. Hope to visit again next month.- Half Cut.

Really disappointed with food today, at 4pm don’t expect smallest portions of peas, pie and dried chips, cold. To pay 13 not great also my friends Sunday roast was not the best at an overpriced £15, and roast potatoes were also not to standard, overall poor quality and inflated prices

I had chosen to come to to meet up with a childhood friend who is heavily grieving.Sadly lunch was not enjoyable,she didn't eat it . Food hear is normally amazing.just don't order the Lasagna.

Massive tent in the carpark for drinking outside - it's great 🤩 Had the burger today, it was so lovely 🤪 And full marks to the staff, they really are hard working and excellent 🤩
