Very good breakfast and exceptionally friendly staff. Our stay was cut short by the effect of the floods. We had planned to have our evening meal here on the strength of the breakfast.

What a disappointment. Ordered mushroom soup with baguette and the sea bass. Mushroom soup was bland and the baguette rock hard. I pointed this out to the waiter who came back after having discussed with the chef. The feedback was: it’s soft on the inside. This bread was clearly cooked days ago and put in the microwave to reheat. The baguette is the one you find in the frozen section of the supermarket and was so hard on the outside it was hard to break. Having experienced this I asked if the sea bass would be freshly cooked, to which I received the reply that the mashed potatoes were also frozen and microwaved. This reminds me of 3663 (the food company) 25 years ago - bland, over cooked, microwaved food from the frozen counter. Not what you’d expect at these prices! All in all an awful experience I never want to try again. And it’s not holondaise

chose any of the restaurants in Chesterfield in preference. The restaurant on Saturday night was so terrible that it took over an hour to have our orders taken, and then some long while after the orders were made it was reported by the kitchen staff that there was no liver and bacon after all. My mother was served a meal of gammon and egg. The gammon was so tough she couldn't cut into it and the egg was so overcooked that it was like rubber.

I have stayed here several times now to hold our HMS Danae reunion when it was independently owned. Everyone was really nice and pleasant and looked after us, it was as if we were part of the family. The food was fantastic and they even provided a separate menu for Friday’s just for our group, and the Saturday official reunion dinner was always something special. I regret to say, not any more. It is now owned by a hotel chain/group, the food is awful, and that’s from several reunion members, not just myself. Some of the waitressstaff would be better working in a garage, one in particular had no sense at all on how to serve meals. The beer which had previously been supplied just for us (real ale drinkers) was not supplied this year, it was what the “hotel chain managers” said we had to have, at quite inflated prices too. I for one will not be attending our annual reunion there next year, unless someone convinces me that this was just a blip and things will return to as they were for next year, I doubt it though. For some reason I am unable to select the ratings, so. Service 2 out of 5, Food 1 out of 5, Value 1 out of 5.

I stayed with my family at the Sandpiper hotel for 4 nights and ate breakfast for 3 mornings. I’m used to a larger selection of food at hotels so I was disappointed not to see fried bread on offer but I wouldn’t know if it would have been made as I didn’t ask. The sausages tasted like beef rather than pork and my son wouldn’t eat it. I would have also liked to have fried tomatoes but there was the usual plum tomatoes which is too gooey for me. The eggs were lovely though. For the price, it’s ok if you have a good appetite in the morning but if you can only manage cereal then £7.50 is way too much.

We visited this restaurant for a family Christmas celebration recently. We had been there before and thoroughly enjoyed our previous visits. However, the restaurant has recently changed hands and is under new management. My husbands meal arrived at the table a good 5 minutes after everyone else's despite having been pre ordered. The roast potatoes had clearly been deep fried and not roasted and tasty as previous. The vegetables had a good half inch of water in the bottom of the dish so you had to be careful not to spoon out the water with the veg. We had asked what type of stuffing was being served and never got the answe to that question and it took two requests to get extra gravy on to the table. All in all not a favourable visit.

We hosted our Christening party at the Sand Piper on Saturday. We were really impressed by the quality of the food and by how lovely and helpful the staff were. We went for the 'hot cobs' buffet which was excellent. There was plenty of food and it was delicious. They even did us special homemade food for the kids (Goujons, veg and chips). The hotel does look tired from the outside but the function rooms are really good sizes and they look nice. We were able to decorate with balloons, bunting etc.. It was such a lovely day and that was down to the hard work of Sue, Kenny, John and the team. Thank you!!

Booked here for a family meal to celebrate our Ruby wedding anniversary on 1st May. There was 16 of us in total, 9 adults, 6 children and an infant.Communication was excellent from start to finish, we didn't like the soup on the menu and that was altered with no problem whatsoever. Children's needs were catered for, one child wanted ice cream as opposed to one of the desserts on the menu, and the toddler was offered melon for dessert which he enjoyed. We were in the Chesterfield suite and they were happy with us arriving an hour and a half ahead of the meal time so we could have family photographs taken. They agreed to everything we asked, I've the photographer, table decorations we supplied, a late lunch time (13:45), the changes to the menu etc.The meal itself was beautiful, food was hot, plentiful and delicious. The roast beef and roast potatoes were gorgeous. All the adults raved about their meals. The grandchildren were very happy with their choices three had the chicken nuggets, two the sausage and one the roast beef from the adult menu, the toddler also had chicken nuggets. The food was of excellent quality. They gave us plenty of time and we only felt rushed on one occasion......the maitre'd (?) asked us on arrival what time we wanted to eat and we told him 13:45, a few minutes later he said "I've told the chef you'll be eating at 13:30" I said "No, we won't as we're running a little later than expected" he seemed to accept this and we ate at 13:45 as agreed. Overall it was a beautiful meal and we won't hesitate to return again and I would be happy to recommend it to anyone.

From the moment we walked in we were made to feel special. The staff greeted us as old friends showing us to our table and taking our pre-dinner drinks order while we studied. the menu.We opted for the chicken Caesar salad for starter which was a generous helping of chicken along with really fresh salad in a beautiful dressing. We followed this with a traditional roast beef and Yorkshire pudding. The meat was cooked to perfection and we were each served three succulent slices together with a very large, very light and crisp Yorkshire pudding. The accompanying veg were served in individual dishes and extra gravy was available if we needed it. A range of sauces were also offered, my husband opting for horse radish while I asked for a non-traditional mint sauce. The staff are obviously used to unusual requests because no-one batted an eyelid! We requested time to let the first two courses settle before ordering a delicious fresh fruit meringue nest which rounded off the meal beautifully. We were offered coffee to round off the dining experience but we declined in order to finish our wine. we were invited to take our drinks through to a lounge area or to stay at our table, no pressure was put on us move to allow the table to be cleared and reset.

They even let us bring our own birthday cake and have a slide show of photographs playing whilst we ate, which made the occasion even more special. As usual, Kenny and his team provided a friendly and enthusiastic service which is second to none, whilst the food represents very good value for the quality on offer. Where do I start, brilliant service from Sue & Kenny. Held my parents Diamond Wedding celebration here. Sue was so easy going and knew her job inside out, the whole process was seamless and nothing was too much trouble. The area was on the ground floor and easily accessible, Kenny was the most attentive host and couldn't do enough for us or the guests he communicated well with us and left our parents to get on with what they do best - talking. We were able to take our own music on our ipod to play all the oldies songs. Even on the day we needed an extra table for our celebration sundries and it was there in a flash. The house wine was very nice, and the food too. All in all the Sandpiper gave us a day that we will remember forever. Brilliant thank you so much.

Tables were further enhanced with sets of balloons provided by " Pure Party" of New Whittington. Silver Service was faultless with food excellent and good value. Our 40+ guests also took full advantage of the comfortable seats and sofas in the adjoining lounge both before and after the meal. There was plenty of room for milling and greeting as well as for photos videos and cake display in the wooden floored area adjoining the dining room. Went for a meal there last night with friends. We had made a reservation. When we arrived there is a barrier across the car park . . . ok, nothing to do with the food but the barrier didn't move so we assumed we were trying to get in through the exit, so reversed back onto the road and continued driving. No, there was only the one entrance. We turned round and drove back again, this time going closer to the barrier and it did rise to let us in. We were relieved to find that our friends did exactly the same so though it worth noting here so anyone else going knows to go very close to the barrier to get in!The venue was immaculate, our table a lovely circular one so all six of us could see and talk to each other easily. The menu choices were good and we all ordered different dishes. The food itself was absolutely delicious, well prepared and presented. We had main course and dessert (missed out the starters to make sure we'd room for desserts)! There were few others in the restaurant, so it was very quiet but that certainly isn't a complaint, just an observation. The cost of the meal was very good considering the excellent quality and quantity.Another tip for drivers . . . ask for the barrier code before leaving! We didn't and had to go the hotel reception to get it. We'll remember next time - I certainly think we'll be going here again!

Came here for dinner with my wife and parents. The decor, cleanliness etc were very good, if a little strange (like stepping back 20 years) that said it was clear that someone here has an eye for standards. The staff were attentive however couldn't answer basic questions about particular dishes - I asked ref an Americaine Sauce and the lady who served us had no idea (she did eventually find out though) As for the food, it was enjoyable but not restaurant standard to my own taste and not what I expected. My parents were happy which reiterated the fact that the restaurant is good, offers a limited fayre of outdated dishes served as expected, with plenty of vegetables and potatoes and at a fair price. So yes I would go back based on my experience, and would also recommend...I wouldn't however expect a modern restaurant next time which is why I couldn't give 5 stars as others have.

The restaurant's extensive menu was available all day which was a nice surprise as most other restaurants only cater to this after 5.30pm/6pm. Kenny surprised my Daughter with a complimentary glass of Merlot for her Birthday, which was a really nice gesture and very much appreciated. The restaurant was elegantly furnished with crisp white tablecloths under glass and fresh flowers on every table. The food was of superb quality, beautifully presented and plentiful on red hot plates. Compliments to the chef and the staff, absolutely faultless! We will definitely dine here again and we will recommend the Sandpiper to all our family and friends. A very enjoyable dining experience. Keep up the good work Kenny and staff!!As we left the restaurant, Kenny was catering for a gentleman's 80th Birthday celebration that would be taking place later that evening, the room looked fantastic and Kenny was very meticulous in his preparations.
