Poor customer service and massive wait for desserts

The food was good and reasonably priced before lockdown, its not been open since which is a shame, hopefully it's not permanent.

Please could they owners state if they are open/closed or wot. Just because the website says open. The fone lines ring off with an immediate countdown. I do hope the restaurant opens and continues to do business and make profit. The last 18 month alone must have been hell. Fair play to the fairview for trying to stay afloat. Ps. Again. Please if poss be clear on if your gonna be opening soon etc. Thank you. Mucappreciated

I booked a table for breakfast on the 16 April 2021 at 8:30. When I arrived at the fair view Inn it was closed. I tried to open all the doors and banging on windows to try to get the staff to open. The staff Did not seem to arrive yet. I tried phoning the inn up to see if they would be opening soon but yet again still no answer. The play area was full of old Brocken benches and looked abandoned. I was left wondering why they accepted my booking and why they did not contacting me if they would not be reopening yet.

Clean, attentive and friendly. I had the best blue Steak ever and I've had many many blue steaks. Had a starter which we shared, maybe shouldn't have had it because the main course was more than enough. Enjoyed every bite.Love having breakfast there too. Even though you can't get your own, you can still have whatever and as many of whatever as you want.

Visited on 4/11/20. Host told us our table was ready, went over to the table and was still dirty with previous guests plates and drinks. Waited for waiter to clean table, waited around 20 minutes and waiter still hadn’t been over despite walking past the table on multiple occasions. Had to call the waiter over to clean the table, asked for food menus and asked for our drinks order to be taken. Once asked tables were cleaned promptly and menus brought over. Drinks order had been taken (2 drinks). When received the menu we were warned by other customers that the restaurant had no peppers and was also advised by them not to order any steaks or carvery as there was high waiting times. Drinks took around 25 minutes to arrive by barmaid. Had to call waiter over again to take our order and a second drinks order. Ordered 2 starters to share, nachos and halloumi. Starters were brought over and waiter said he would be back shortly with cutlery for the starter. Shared and finished the nachos and cutlery still hadn’t been brought over, no sign of waiter. Drinks arrived and had to ask barmaid to get cutlery. Barmaid brought cutlery over and obviously halloumi was cold due to long waiting times. Waiter came over and took away finished plates and said he will let the chef know we are ready for mains. During the wait, customers around our table were complaining about their food and the long waiting times which wasn’t enjoyable, waiter was also only bringing one plate at a time to a party of five with a wait in between each plate. Mains came, sausage and mash & fish and chips. Both ate half as wasn’t enjoyable. Whilst finishing drinks and waiting to ask waiter for bill, customers at the side of us walked out due to the long waiting times, this man had waited around 40 minutes just to pay the food bill. Do not blame him for walking out. Would not recommend.

Went last Sunday had carvery beef very tough food all most cold service good need to improve carvery first time I had meat so over cooked and need to keep food warmer nothing worse than cold food

Had a very bad night tonight 4/11/2020 Booked at 1800 order at 1835 at last, received meal at 1930 is this helping to keep your restaurant open but not to the extent that the customers suffered people were waiting lengthy times times for their meals - when the meal did arrive it was not as explained on the menu - was not enjoyable, we were very disappointed to say the least, complained and conveyed to the waiter we were not putting the blame on him we said it would be along time before we payed a visit to the fair view

Unfortunately we had a bad experience and it wasn't just us but also the other families and couples around us. We waited 45 mins before we were served and then another 45 mins before the food came. When I asked what was the delay I was told they were busy. We actually ate our food and left before the family next to us even got their food. There didn't seem to be many covid-19 safety measures either with all tables packed in tightly and no screens anywhere. Only the staff wore visors. This is the third time I have been to this restaurant and each time has not been great. I don't think I will be eating here again and will not be recommending to other people

Came here for first time today since it changed hands, wont be visiting again. The service was appalling, waited at least 20mins for anyone to approach us then when they did they brought the sheets to tick off what we was having but no pen. Then waited another 15 mins for a pen ,then waited about 30 mins for food which wasnt very nice udercooked carrots, sloppy mash overcooked roast potatoes and not much meat, then asked for the desert menu took another 10 minutes for that to be brought, nobody came to take order so had to go order at the bar then someone came and said they had forgotten what we ordered so had to order again then waited another 20 minutes for desert. It was like a comedy sketch. Never again.

Friendly staff, felt safe. Carvery was nice.

What a lovely place . Meal was gorgeous, staff were really fun and helpful . We will be visiting again for sure .

Been here for a carvery many times but been today and really disappointed forgot that it would be waitress service and 2 out of 3 of us couldn’t eat it because we both got beef and it was dreadful couldn’t even cut it,fatty and undercooked ruined rest of meal for us both.

Amazing breakfast. So much choice and the price is unbelievable. Can't fault it. So pleased it has reopened after this "virus" that has been with us since march. Going this week so will review again after that.

Just had a carvary delived . OMG it was absolutely delicious and piping hot . Fully recommend and soo much food for the price . I will definitely be ordering again .

I took my 5 grandchildren and one other for breakfast, they age 6yrs to 19 years. Just over £40 for an all 7 of us for an all you can eat breakfast is unbelievable value. Fruit, yoghurt, fruit juices, tea and coffee. Three different types of egg, bacon sausage smiley faces, potato croutons, black pudding, cheesy beans, beans, tomatoes, toast, and jams. I'm sure I've missed some things. Pleasing all 5 of my grandchildren is a challenge but they all went back for second helpings. Can't recommend enough.

The carvery is amazing. The food is always fresh and hot. Its the best carvery ive ever had. Good value for money as well. Would reccomend to anyone.

The visit and meal was very good, we had 2 members of our family over from Australia so we took them for a treat they have both become vegan and this eatery delt with this situation impecabley giving everyone of us a most enjoyable experiance.

The breakfast was horrible. The bacon was hard,the eggs were overcooked and the waffles were sloppy. Only gave 1* because the staff were ok. This was an expensive lesson to learn to stick to our usual

I have bad O C D dont like crowded palaces, But also because of my mobility needs as well have difficulty cooking, Me and my friends add a wonderful carvery dinner, I was making all the right noses, that beautiful mash potatoes, everything was lovely, I asked for a disposable fork and knife and smelled water , The staff didn't look at me if a was a nutter , They made me feel welcome and excepted as I told one of the severus It felt a to me , And when I build up the strength to try again hopefully, Thank you to that server for understanding me and making me feel normal .

Been today breakfast was not fresh when my partner pulled them on it the staff was rude and started talking about him. Then the owner Lee came out and spoke to my partner unprofessionaly and rude

We at Hopwood Court Shaw are local so some of them have been there several times. They have said that the food was very good. The only criticism is that sometimes the tables were not cleared quick enough.

We had the carvery for lunch. Food was excellent couldn't fault a thing with that and brilliant price. The service was bit shambolic, but it was busy. Will definitely go back and recommend, but will try and go when less busy

Went for breakfast this morning but was not impressed. Probably the worst sausages I've ever tasted and bacon full of fat.

Visited with a family member for a carvery lunch . Meat selection beef turkey and ham . Good choice of vegetables and potatoes. The only thing that let our visit down is we had to wait a long time for our drinks to arrive . Didn’t have a dessert as we both full .

Visited this afternoon, excellent food but very poor service, no one carving meat while a large queue formed , but two people preparing just eat delivery orders, the queue gradually increased the chef arrived and started carving for pub customers then there was a shortage of vegetables and again whilst pub customers were waiting the just eat delivery got preference . Many people not happy with this as people were talking back at their tables, needs to be reviewed or I fear customers will go elsewhere .

Food was good but staff a little rude, asked if I was an oap!!

Party of 7 for Xmas day lunch. Waited nearly an hour for our starter then after another 40mins or so to be finally told to get our meals from carvery. I ordered med tart and it was awful! Pastry hard and veg filling like Luke warm slush. Was so hungry I ate the veg from carvery and that wasn’t the best. Desert finally came and we all just left as we were so disappointed! Cannot believe we paid £47 each for that! They were over booked & understaffed or chef failed to turn up. Would never book again for Xmas day, been a few times prior to Xmas day and that’s why I suggested the Fairview as it was good. Sent a e-mail and got no response.

A lot of food on offer but poor quality for the price. Also the filter coffee in a water urn is a poor effort. Sorry guys not for me .

Best buffet breakfast we have had. Great choice even had a separate well done bacon section and “cheesy beans”. Plenty of veggie options too if that’s your thing. Fruit juice cereals and endless tea and coffee all for under £7.00. Really can’t fault it and will definitely be back...

We have been coming over 20 years and tonight meal we'll disappointed to say the least clean and warm welcome, front of house staff was friendly but we did go for a meal I had there big mix grill worst £15 I've spent in a long time it come with a side order of a hair on my stake the cumbaland sausage was 2 tiny baby pork chipolatas the black pudding well you could have used to practise your shooting on the lamb chop has never seen life or it was off a large toad and the chicken was as dry as a nuns gusset and it was topped off with a gravy boat of portage that was supposed to be Diane sauce . I told 2 front of house staff fist took the hair and to our horror she was showing a group on another table where one put it in there pocket the 2nd said leave it with me for a couple of minutes then disappeared we payed in full and left all I can say is don't bother

I go to the Fair View Inn on a regular basis and it is very good I find like any carvery you have to choose when you go best to go when it is a busy time and then the food is fresh

The carvery is really good value. Good selection of both meat and veg. Delicious meat gravy.( Veg option also available). Staff were very friendly.

Looked like we came after a very buys slightly shott staffed day nice relaxed atmosphere and obviously lovely views a few tables needed clearing and this seemed to takes long whil but again looks like they have been short handed. Food was ok nothing amazing but tasty enough.

Excellent value food. Service slow. Table not cleared at the end of first course. Staff didn't return to ask if we wanted anything more. It's a shame because the food is good, access is good and it's a pleasant atmosphere.

Went for the carvery can not fault the food but in my opinion the staff should be deployed better perhaps each having thier own area to look after xx

Wowee..what a fantastic meal. A party of six of us and not a scrap left, though i don't know how as there was so much on our plates, but it was too tasty to leave. Then to top it all we were talked into sampling a pud...so delicious. The staff are amazing, friendly and so accomodating. The meals were reasonably priced, plentiful and very tasty.

Had the buffet breakfast - really nice with lots of choice. Decent price - £6.95 - will definitely return and will take the family and try the evening menus. My only grumble would be the coffee wasn't hot enough from the coffee urn... by the time I added my milk it was warm at best! Definitely worth a try!

Christmas 2019 was our second year having Christmas Dinner at the Fairview. We had high expectations following 2018 as they went above and beyond for us and accommodating for vegan and vegetarians). The soup this year was good and the non-meat eaters really enjoyed the soup. For main, I had ordered the Mushroom risotto and my sister a Mediterranean tart... not very festive but they where the only two options. The rest of the family could eat from the cavery. I had to pick up my vegan meal from the same place as the dead birds... something that I didn’t find very tastefully. When I asked about the vegetables available and whether any of it was made with milk , I was told that EVERYTHING was made with butter. To clarify, I asked about the sprouts and the peas and the lady confirmed they were all cooked in butter and therefore not suitable. The rest of my family enjoyed their carvery. Since we had to pre-order our meals in March 2019,,, I do not understand or find it acceptable that the Fairview could not accommodate since they knew well in advance of dietary requirements. Especially since I was charged £40pp for a soup, risotto and cake.... as a Christmas meal....

We went here as a party of eleven. The starters were fine and the meal for my grandson arrived at the same time as them, as requested. The majority of us had carvery which was excellent and extremely tasty. The other meals were tasty too. One was a small portion seafood salad which would have fed two people, so no complaints about the portion. A couple of the desserts were disappointing, but we didn’t send them back or complain as the Fairview on New Year’s Day was severely understaffed. Don’t know if it was due to bad planning or staff not turning up, but they coped pretty well under the circumstances.

Visited New Year’s Day. Booked a table for 5 people ordered starters for 4 people 50 minutes for the starters to arrive I asked where they were twice they said they were busy but the place was half empty. The mains came out I ordered the small cheese and onion pie it was literally a couple of mouthfuls the rest of the party thought it was hilarious I could tell it had been plated for a while as it was stuck to the plate. Nobody in the party enjoyed any of their meals. We ordered drinks but they never came so had to go to the bar to ask for them they arrived a few minutes later and the waitress was apologetic never would I eat there again.

I booked a table for 10 for my birthday. I was offered a window table which is where we prefer. When we arrived we were given a different area. When we asked why the waitress M, said it wasn't her fault and became quite aggressive and abusive. We asked to see the manager about her behaviour but nobody was forthcoming! The family could see I was getting upset so we all left and went to a friendly welcoming estabishment

Booked a table for 6 people half having carvery half ordering from main menu to be told there was an hours wait on the main menu although the restraunt was quite empty food was ordered then after 20 mins of waiting we was told 2 of the meals wernt available carvery was cold with sloppy veg and dried out meat had to wait for roast potatoes all in all very poor quality of food although can't fault their breakfast deffanitly won't be back for a carvery

Raw food, the pastry was soggy disappointing for puff pastry. 1 1/2 hour wait and the attitude of the male waiter was an absolute disgrace. For a large party the birthday boy (10) was the last to be served. We will never step foot in this establishment again.

Visited during the week and the dining area is nicely full.Two carvery and a kids hot dog ,chips and beans were ordered and all meals were excellent. The Carvery has an extensive variety of good hot food and the meat is very nice.

Food was standard fayre but service was appalling.

Came here Wednesday night and spend all Wednesday night Thursday with food poisoning! Such a shame as cheap n cheerful place to take the kids sadly I wont be returning

Quite busy for a really wet Tuesday night. Lots of choice with the carvery and menu. Ate well... really full. Friendly and helpful staff.
