Not 5 stars simply because the prices were higher than advertised on the website, so that needs updating, and it was very cold in there. The staff were very friendly The food was good and served nice and hot Would we return? Yes we would

Ate at the Failand so many times and always very good especially the Steak and Ale Pie. However on our recent visit we were very disappointed. The pie was very dry, had a very unusual taste , very dark in appearance and looked and tasted as if it had been reheated. Ask if everything was ok with our meals at the very start we couldn’t comment on the 2 x pie meals costing £31! as oly just started to eat. I rang the pub to give feedback and spoke to a man who said he was the owner. He said not prepared to do anything about my complaint so will never return. A great shame

We stayed here in our van and were very grateful for the hospitality. It was a good place to stop near Bristol and on the way to Cheddar. We loved the cornbeef hash and the lasgane- absolutely delicious! The staff were very friendly and we had a quiet night- handily for breakfast there is a cafe just yards away as well. Great stopover and many thanks

This is the second Christmas Day that we've enjoyed a fantastic four course dinner at The Failand. Jules and her team work so hard to ensure that your day is special and they certainly deliver that. Well done to the chef's for all the lovely food, plenty on the dish and delicious. We'll be back in the New Year.

Stopped at this pub restaurant last early evening for dinner before work. My food was good, however there were people openly vaping inside the pub and close to where people were eating. Those people vaping included staff members so I presume this activity is allowed! They have signs saying that smoking is not allowed. So why not have a sign telling customers that vaping is allowed? I would not have chosen to eat in this pub had I have known that my food would have to be consumed with the horrible smell of vape. Not to mention that I do not want to secondary inhale vape toxins.

We have had a very good lunch here, several months ago and decided to have a Friday night evening meal. with another couple. The food was excellent and many dishes sourced locally. I had the Steak and Ale pie which was top quality in every way. The Faggots proved a great success with two others and the Sausages completed a very successful meal for the four of us. We were too full up to sample the dessert menu but will attempt this on our next visit. Can I also mention the young Staff who were serving us. Really pleasant and efficient and very ‘switched on’ regarding the food, beer and wine available. An unpretentious, Real Pub with great food and a great atmosphere. See you soon.

Great, efficient service and good nicely cooked food; we had vegan curry and popadums with rice (throughly approved by the rice aficionado) and egg, ham and chips (freshly cooked with great quality ingredients). Plenty of pudding options and the sticky toffee pudding was spot on; with wonderful creamy ice cream. A great weekday lunchtime option.

Old fashioned real country pub with lovely, hardworking staff and a good vibe. Plenty of on-site parking. Service was rather slow but they were busy and all staff working flat out to please customers. Draught beers and ciders very good Loved the Haze cider.Great pint. The roast chicken dinners were excellent with the exception of the gravy which was really watery. A good gravy is a key ingredient to a Sunday roast. Please sort this out😊 Charging extra for Yorkshire puddings seemed unnecessary Give everybody one, then charge for additional ones if people want more. We have never eaten out and not has a Yorkshire pudding included with a roast dinner. Cauliflower cheese was extra too. But this has become the norm. The liver and onions with mashed potatoes was a masterpiece Amazing thick tasty gravy with this great traditional dish. The ribeye steak was cooked medium, not medium rare as requested. The jacket potato was good. It had come from the oven not the microwave I’m pleased to say. The homemade peppercorn sauce was thin, watery and tasteless. I sent it back as it wouldn’t coat the steak as it was so thin. This was replaced with an identical jug of inedible watery sauce, unfortunately, which couldn’t be eaten. So the most expensive main course on the menu was a real disappointment and can’t be recommended, but the other meals were delicious and good sized portions representing value for money. The only home made dessert was the apple and raspberry crumble, which 3 of us chose. This was good and plentiful. The passion fruit cheesecake was enjoyed too. Definitely worth trying the Failand Inn if you haven’t eaten there before.

We went to The Failand 28th March 2023. There were 5 of us. The food was good standard pub food. When the bill came we rounded it up to £17 each. 2 of us paid £17 each by card and 3 of us paid £60 cash. We sat waiting for the £9 change but the waitress clearly took it upon herself to keep it and not return with the change. Very rude assuming we wanted to add £9 to the tip we had already added to the total. We are put off going here again sadly.

We normally visit the Failand Inn throughout the year for Birthdays & Mother's Day & Father's Day. So, we decided to visit the pub for Christmas day which was booked in September & we asked in plenty of time if the chef would be able to do some Yorkshire puddings no problem, they said we paid the deposit at the beginning of December which the owner wanted. Are table was booked for 12;30 & were greeted by a staff member & were seen to our table ordered drinks & starters came out from the Kitchen which we all agreed was very nice we had a short wait before the main course arrived which was fine. So, we had our main courses arrive which looked very nice & we had two side dishes of vegetables I'm still trying to get my head around why would you do red cabbage sprouts which are both from the same type of vegetable group & carrots. We were very disappointed in the number of vegetables 2 dishes between 7, not enough everyone agreed it was poor The Yorkshire puddings which we had ordered months before were not done my mum's beef was not the best meat that we expected from a pub that is known for its quality steaks (POOR ) so the waitress came over when we finished & we said the beef was not the best but that was it we also added the Yorkshire puddings where missing. We then ordered some more drinks ( STOP THE PRESS ) A Bottle of Heineken 00 £3.50 a bottle which cost 65p & there is no alcohol duty on the 00 drink Highest price in AVON & NORTH SOMERSET. Right back to the meal, the Sweets came out except for one we sat there & sat there waiting to the point that I had to leave the table & go to the bar & ask what has happened to the Cheese Board to my amazement they had not done it at that point everyone had finished & a man came over & said sorry at that point my mum said I'm not sitting here eating a sweet when everyone had finished I said you can refund for the cheese board & he agreed 2 mins later a cheese board turned up what the hell is going on. The meal was over £70.00 each which was fine that's the price you pay for Christmas day We sat there & we were going to have a coffee but after such a cockup we asked for the bill no money was taken off & I'm sorry to say I will not be recommending THE FAILAND INN which is a shame as I've given nothing but praise on google maps. After spending over £600.00 on the day it's left me feeling that I can't give good reviews when such issues should not have happened, I'm an ex-chef & people know I eat out at least twice a week & people ask me where the best places are to go for true English dishes. I'm sorry to say it's not the FAILAND INN & if you ever do go there in the winter don't book the table by the bar which is the only entry & with people coming & going & the smokers it was cold. I'm not saying the food is bad the rest of the year my Birthday meal on the 23rd was 1st class & the staff coming out with a cake & singing happy Birthday was a nice thing to do I felt guilty when I got home as I had left a tip in my pocket but on Christmas day I did hand the tip over & asked the bar lady to make sure the 2 girls got the tip from when they served me on the 23rd December I'm afraid the £30.00 tip for Christmas day came home with me it's the one meal in the year that should be 110% correct. My suggestion would be if you are not booked in for the meal the bar is not open This seems to me & others the staff were dealing with them & the profit from them is not worth the time & stress your customers are the ones eating they have paid a premium for Christmas day & I hope you take my comments in a way of improvements I'm open to the owners showing some kind of represents but until then I can't give good comments when there not true a lot of the public & celebrities ask me where is the best place to go so I can't make up something that is not true. I wish you a HAPPY NEW YEAR & I hope you understand my side of the visit on CHRISTMAS DAY...

Having visited, eaten, and enjoyed dinner as a couple a few weeks ago, we decided to invite our friends last week for dinner. We all had three courses. The prawn cocktail was possibly the smallest serving I had EVER seen, and absolutely nothing to 'rescue' it. VERY POOR. Some of us had the plaice with butter and capers, which was served solely with small new potatoes. No salad, no veg. The plaice was actually very nice, but let down with it's total lack of sides, unless you count the capers?? One had the sirloin, of which he had to leave at least 1/3rd since it was grtistle and fat, and it also wasn't cooked according to his order. No-one came back to our table to check on our food after serving. The lady (who i presume to be the owner), did offer a free pudding to our friend to make up for the steak. The desserts were also disappointing, there was nothing 'mud' about the chocolate dessert, it was simply a piece of chocolate sponge with choc sauce. According to my husband, the crumble tasted 'strange', and not altogether pleasant. And, though I do understand that all businesses are feeling the pinch with rising costs, we also did not feel it was good value for money. Difficult to find any positives. Sorry, Failand Inn - we won't be back.

We had 4 main courses with two pints of beer, two glasses of wine and a soft drink. Including the tip the bill was only £60. My steak, mushroom and ale pie was the best I have eaten, even better than my own home-made pie. There was plenty beef, no gristle or fat, as tender as you could want.

A group of us meet once a month - variable numbers - for lunch and this was our chosen eatery for March. Nice quiet pub serving good standard food. Plenty of parking space, didn't mind us rearranging the tables so we could all sit together, and no problem with people joining the group late. All in all a very pleasant meal.

The Tuesday steak deal- tasty but tiny and inadequate. Clearly not the normal portions from the main menu. If you are going to peddle these offers, please respect your customers.

Love the menu here and never had a bad meal, like the fact that if you have a dog you can go to the restaurant on the left as you enter the pub and your canine friend is more than welcome, they even have complimentary gravy bones!!

I have visited the Failand Inn many times over the past five years. Sadly, after such a terrible experience, I will not be returning. I rarely return food as don’t like to make a fuss, but my food was delivered to me stone cold in the middle. I had to return it and was made to feel as though I had done something wrong. When my food finally was returned to me, there was a further problem Which resulted in me not being able to finish eating it. I didnt like to send it back again, how many times should you have to return your food? Especially when met with such a rude dismissive response the first time. When I mentioned that I wasn’t able to eat my meal, I was shouted at and made to feel as though I had done something wrong. Sadly, there were further problems with food served to other members of the group. I have never been to a pub/ restaurant before where staff are so rude to their customers. Not only was it difficult to have to deal with inedible food, but when mentioned to staff, their response was most shocking. We had elderly members of the family with us and for them to be shouted at and scorned in such a rude and offensive matter is unacceptable. A simple apology would have sufficed, and yet the defensive attitude from the staff was a step too far. I have never felt the need to write a review before but I feel the need to warn others of what could happen if you receive poor quality food. I would hate for anyone else to be treated in such a disrespectful manner and would suggest eating elsewhere. The food has definitely gone down hill, most likely due to the appointment of a new chef. I am sad that as a loyal customer for many years this has happened. There are many other lovely pubs around the area and I would recommend eating there if you have the choice.

I feel compelled to comment on the two critical reviews of the Failand Inn posted on 13th January, partly because I was in the bar when the family took their seats. My wife and I have been regulars at the Failand for 25 years, and particularly for the last 18 years since Steve and Jules have been managers. The two reviews I refer to in no way fit with my experiences of the staff, the food and the drink over this prolonged period of visiting the pub, indeed the reviews beggar belief. Over the years, I have come to know numerous people who visit the Failand on a regular basis and speak very highly of everything about the establishment and the staff. A cursory glance at the more than 200 reviews attest to the quality of this venue, with an average rating of four and a half stars out of five being given. It is interesting to note that a table of 11/12 had so many apparently bad meals to complain about when more than 130 meals in total were served without any complaints. As to the staff being abusive to members of this table does not sit easy with me, after years of exposure to every staff member since 1993: somehow just not in character with any staff member I can think of. The apparent bad attitude of the manageress toward members of the complaining table would have been so out of character as,for me, difficult to swallow please forgive the pun. Having had so many, indeed innumerable, delightful visits to the Failand Inn, I am saddened to read that this family will never go again: their loss in my humble opinion. To the staff of the Failand, you must take this poor review with a pinch of salt (forgive the second pun) and soldier on with your excellent service and food.

I don’t usually write reviews and prefer to give places the benefit of the doubt that perhaps it’s just a bad day. But my experience at the Failand Inn lunchtime today was so extreme that I feel compelled to warn people.

Popped into The Failand Inn today for early supper. We visit probably 4 - 5 times a year. Always good quality food, quick and friendly service at very reasonable cost. Great selection of beers etc and of great advantage - it serves food all day. Close by to Tyntesfield ( not greatly recommended for food) and Noah’s Ark ( also not greatly recommended for food; but great for animals! )

Booked for lunch prior to visiting a nearby N.T. property. I'd asked for a table by the fire & that's what we got,in the restaurant, but the main bar seemed even cosier. They were short staffed but friendly and the food was good as was the mulled wine.

Was looking for somewhere relatively close to home for a pub lunch with a friend and remembered the Failand Inn from many years ago. It’s a ‘proper’ pub with plenty of parking, friendly staff, decent beers and an excellent choice from the extensive menu and the specials blackboard - very hard to choose! We both settled on the faggots with gravy, mash and peas and the faggots (from a local(ish) farm shop - I asked where they came from!) were the best I’ve ever had. The dessert menu also sounded delicious, but the faggots were *very* filling - next time (and there definitely will be a next time very soon) I think I’ll go for a starter rather than a main so that I have room for a pudding! The prices were very reasonable for such great food - highly recommended!

Went in Saturday lunchtime on a cold wet miserable day, expecting the place to be packed ! Anything but!. The casserole came with a huge mound of buttery mash and I really wondered if I would get through it all. Not often I say that!

We visited here on a sunday. I chose the mushroom stroganoff , boiled rice and salad. To say this was a disappointment is an understatement, the mushroom stroganoff looked just like a pile of mushrooms the sauce was practically non-existent and what there was of it was watery and tasteless, the boiled rice had more flavour!

I left a positive review about this establishment a year ago but we returned again yesterday (7 October 24) and we were certainly not disappointed. Two lovely, well filled toasties (ham & cheese and tuna, onion & cheese) which were hot and tasty and came with salad. Delicious cakes (chocolate and millionaires shortbread) for afters. Good menu with further selection on “Specials” board. Staff welcoming and very friendly. Facilities clean. Well worth the 2nd visit!

We have been here four times since it’s re vamp . The first time was a disaster and the manager refunded the whole meal asking us to try again . We had two very good meals but tonight was awful ! My steak had to go back three times and the third time it was cold ! The chicken special was not very special . The first was so overcooked it was inedible and the second was edible but not very tasty. The sautéed potatoes were new potatoes cut into quarters ! The attitude of the staff was very poor and although the steak was refunded it was not an experience I would want again so I don’t think we will be going back . And the gin had lost all its garnish for the last two times .
