Such a lovely welcoming pub. The staff are all super friendly and happy to spend time talking to you. My husband absolutely loved the Guinness, we only popped in for a drink but we ended up staying for a few more 🙈. Not only are the staff uber friendly but so are their customers, we talked to so many people while we was having our drinks. We would definitely recommend this pub and would visit it again if we are in Sheffield again!

Walking into Fagan's felt like walking into a proper local. The warm and friendly atmosphere, the old-school feel, we just felt welcome. We ordered drinks and sat playing shut-the-box while happy, relaxed conversations went on around us. Would have been happy to stay longer if we had the chance. If you get the chance at all, pop in, sit down, and have a pint. You'll be more than welcome.

I was in Sheffield to see the Rock n Roll Circus and we were told it was a must to visit Fagans! Well it was so fantastic we went again on Saturday night. It was a hit! The service was above and beyond and the entertainment was spot on. The bar supervisor, I think her name was Lucy, made sure we were all looked after as we were quite a big group. I would totally recommend this place again and will surely visit next year

On a CAMRA real ale trip to Sheffield, came across this homely little pub. Well we came across the mural on the outside wall first, called “the snog”Pub served Tetleys on hand pump and a good selection of guns, all in large measures. The back room was full of locals with acoustic guitars, banjos etc. And we’re entertaining each other with folk and pop songs. Landlord came and sat with us and regaled us with many a story.

We went to Fagan's on a rainy Wednesday afternoon for some good traditional English food, both of us were looking for the best breakfast in Sheffield on google and we were lead to Fagan's a from a few various review sites. The pub is easy to spot due to the painting of the elderly couple on the side of the building and has a really cosy traditional interior which certainly added to the experience, I believe the owner served us on the bar.. He was very friendly and I felt this is possibly one of the most accommodating places I've eaten at in Sheffield. For a small pub, the menu was quite vast, lots of traditional pub menu food as well as some fish dishes (which I'll no doubt be going back to try again), All of the food also is cooked to order on the premises and there was no sign of anything being microwaved or anything like that... Just good honest food. A pre-warning before you visit however... The breakfast is GIGANTIC! - A very generous offering for the £7.50 we paid and nothing was missing, I'm a huge fan of the great English breakfast and I could possibly say that it's up there with one of the best breakfasts I have ever eaten!Complements to the owners and chef, a fantastic place to eat! - Will definitely return!

For the musician living in Sheffield, an evening trip to Fagan's for the jam sessions should certainly be placed on the "must-do" list. Every night, local acoustic musicians gather around to play through a set of (mostly Irish) tunes; it can be a bit cliquey to the casual attendee, but it is always good fun.Tom, the landlord, is always very friendly and welcoming; he introduced himself on our first visit and even remembered our names several weeks later. He keeps a nice atmosphere in his pub, with a small but decent selection of real ales to choose from. Prices are moderate for Sheffield, which in comparison to the rest of the country is fairly reasonable.

Yes the cushions on the stools are not the cleanest but then we were ready to experience the atmosphere that is why we went. I would certainly go again. The pub is well known in certain circles for it's traditional ''Irish'' music and an assortment, if not rather random. selection of photos and pictures of the artists and locals connected with the pub, including Richard Hawley and Jools Holland. However, back to the grub, all that remains to say is that if you are looking for a traditional plate of Roast Beef and Yorkshire Pudding with a Pint of Beer you can't beat this for a Tenner(£10).There is a full and varied menu chalked up on the blackboard opposite the bar, including the biggest ''Allday Breakfast'' ever seen.Sunday lunch (12.00 to 2.30) and lunch times (12.00 to 3.00)and evenings Monday to Saturday (5.30 to 7.00) approx. There are at least 500 pubs in and around Sheffield, but the number of unspoiled boozers can be counted on the fingers of one hand. Fagan's is one. It is one of those rare pubs where landlords stick around for decades. This is an isolated relic. It has a tiny snug and it isn't fancy. But neither has it had a pub kit of modern "relics" imposed upon it. There is genuine memorabilia on display. During the week you may well rub shoulders with some dignitary who was visiting Sheffield and had been taken to an authentic pub for lunch. My preference is a quiet Sunday. Sunday lunch is a massive plate full of home cooked uncomplicated food. Wash it down with a well kept pint of ale and chat with your friends. Your conversation not drowned out by Juke boxes or fruit machines. Tom, the landlord, will likely come over and chat and tell his jokes. He is a bit of a raconteur. Moderate prices and atmosphere. If you want tinsel and glitz go elsewhere. Please..

20 years ago we were regulars at Fagan's quiz, which we attended every Thursday evening. As part of a nostalgic trip back to Sheffield, we went back to Fagan's and we're delighted to find that not only were we welcomed as old friends by Tom and Barbara who are still the resident licencees, but there has been no discernible change in the pub. Two rooms and a very snug snug provide convivial space for a pint or three of Tetley's, Guinness or (and this is a change, added to the range some 12 years ago Tom says) Abbeydale Moonshine. The quiz is still fiendish, but a hidden theme always helps, and the food is satisfying, again to quote Tom "we don't do small"If you visit Sheffield and don't at least have a half in Fagan's you will have missed a treat, for the full monty, have one of the monster meat pies, followed by the Thursday quiz, or you could do the same on Sunday.

Firstly, this pub is fantastic - completely untouched by modern market forces that seem to encourage landlords and pubcos to fit a bland, modern identikit interior - probably hasn't changed since the 60s/70s, and it shouldn't - it should be preserved! Friendly and chatty old husband & wife running the place, and live music was on while we were there. The food portions are absolutely enormous, and all home made - I went for the steak & ale pie, and the meat inside was prime butchers-quality braising steak, absolutely delicious. Served with a mountain of chips and mushy peas... all of us were in food comas after the meal, such were the portions - great if you want comforting, warming food in winter. With the pie being £7 I expected it to be just the pie and no sides, but I was wrong - amazing value in a city centre location!

The decor is out of the 1960's but so what, if that breakfast turns up who cares. Don't change a thing.

Myself and my partner regularly top off our visits to Sheffield with a cosy few hours in Fagan's. The food is impeccable, if you're proper folk, the portions are not for the faint-hearted, but it's hearty, good quality home-cooked grub. On previous occasions we've had pies, vegetable curry and most recently a beautiful sausage and sautéed potato and veg dish which blew my mind, my partner chose the black pudding, bacon and apple. It's great value with lovely hosts and a homely feel, we just love spending time there!

This pub is wonderful. I discovered it when I was studying in Sheffield, and have been going back ever since. I now live in Manchester, but fairly often make the trip across the Peak District- sometimes I fill a car with friends and go over just for a Sunday evening to go to the pub quiz! This may sound ridiculous, but it's always worth it. There's a great community spirit (increasingly hard to find at pubs these days). The quiz is so difficult that we've never got more than half of the questions right, but it's fun to have a go. Tom, the landlord, puts out a wonderful spread of food on the bar when the quiz is over - things like cheeses and meats and bread. Delicious. The main menu of food is also fantastic, but I will warn you now... the portions are MASSIVE! Rumour has it there there is a fine for every item left on the plate if you fail to finish the Full English Breakfast. And the Sunday Roasts are so popular that you have to get your order in at least a day in advance! It's really great home cooked pub grub. Comfort food! Things like pie, curry, ploughmans, steak, but also some lighter options like hummus + pitta bread and fish dishes. And of course, you should always make use of the trusty bottle of Henderson's Relish nestled among the somewhat impressive tray of condiments. It's also unbeatable value for money, with some of the big evening meals priced around the £6 mark! Here you will find the finest pint of Tetley's that you ever did taste. It is very well kept beer. Or Moonshine- the light local ale. It's a lovely characterful pub. The brilliant artwork of Pete Mckee can be seen on the walls (and I notice there is now a huge new painting on the side of the building). There are two larger rooms and a very cute little 'snug' the other side of the bar. Some great folk musicians often grace the second big room with their music. It always appears like a quite spontaneous jamming session. I love sitting in the main room and listening to it- it's audible but you can still easily hold a conversation. I've spent many happy hours sitting there with a pint. Basically...this pub is perfection.

I've visited this gem of a pub only a couple of times but it is a splendid establishment with the Tetleys tasting like when it was brewed in Leeds. On my first visit I enjoyed a ploughmans (£5.99) which was enough for two people - It came with 4 types of cheese, a babybell and a dairylea triangle along with lovely bread, ham, a pickled onion and a pork pie. I went in on Saturday to look at the Pete Mckee mural on the wall outside and there was a couple of blokes playing Bowie songs on guitar, was very good. There's also plenty of Richard Hawley memorabillia dotted around. I imaginw if you went in on your own, someone would befriend you - it's a pub typical of Sheffield really, quite inquisitive, gentle and friendly. All in all, this an old fashioned pub ran by a landlord who cares about his food and ale, with a caring, pleasant atmosphere.

Went in for a quick pint and some food for lunch. Amazed by the quantity and quality of the food available for around £6. I had steak and ale pie with chips and my friend had the chilli. The pie was excellent. None of the usual tasteless pastry over a bowl of gravy with a few lumps of fatty gristle in. So much tasty steak I could hardly believe it. Huge chunky chips that were not greasy in the slightest.Nicked a bit of my friend's chilli too which was also excellent. Will definitely be paying another visit. As in the previous review, the décor is tired. If you go to this place it is for the food and beer, not for the decoration! But what does a bit of paint and a nice carpet mean when you can have pie like this :)

I have visited this pub many times over the years. It has been managed by host Tom for a long while. The decor can seem a bit tired to some tastes, but most of it's customers are unconcerned by this. The staff are friendly and attract a good mix of customers of all ages. There is usually a beer from the local Abbeydale brewery on tap.The pub is known for it's lunchtime blackboard food. Portions are generous, using fresh locally bought produce where possible and are very good value at £4 to £6.I would particularly recommenf the Cod Loin with chips, peas, bread and butterr. The cooked breakfast (served lunctimes) is huge and should only be ordered by customers with large apetites and consists of bacon, sausage, black pudding, tomato, beans, mushrooms, fried egg, chips and toast.

It was wonderful to see the Ruddy Duck re-opening, albeit temporarily in the library - which was decorated beautifully for the evening. The 5-course tasting menu we enjoyed was exceptional, my particular highlights being the beef cooked two ways which came with a scrummy potato gratin and our dessert, a superb creation of rhubarb and ginger, showing off the best of local produce. The kale even came from the walled gardens at Wortley Hall! Our servers David and Brogan were both warm, friendly and knowledgeable about both the menu and the venue and we'll be delighted to dine here again. A week later and I'm still thinking about the homemade rhubarb cocktail that David created for me!

Food cooked to order so there's always a wait. Lovely plentiful food though. Delicious.
