My daughter had her birthday Party there and it was so lovely. Very friendly host. Jordan is simply the best. The kids enjoyed their food, the pizzas were to die for and they had a swell time. F-Cooke is sure the best when it comes to hosting people. Friendly and lovely .

The worst pie and mash i have ever had, the pastry was burnt hard and dry , the mince was in big congealed lumps and I got a hard bit of bone which I can only describe as crunching on a stone. It Honestly was disgusting

I can't tell you all how disapointed my wife and I was eating our first pie and mash for shouch a long time. Nothing like the the shop in the broadway market in the Eastend.. Not sure if we had expected it to be the same as we once new. But I can tell you it wasn't . To start with the pie around the edges were hard it was never hard so we had a problem cutting it to be honest not much taste anyway. We think the pie and Mash you get in lake side is 1000 times better. If Cookes was just starting up they would be in trouble all ready. My wife and I are Eastenders and thought we were getting the pie and mash we once knew but it was nothing like it.

As an ex Londoner I was happy to see I can get pie and mash now in Chelmsford. The pies are a great size and full of meat. The price was expensive but what isn't expensive today with prices going up. My only real issue was there was way too much pepper in the pies. So much so it burned the back of your throat. Not sure why. I'm a born and bred Cockney and the pies never had that much pepper in before. I've had from here before and was just as peppery so it wasn't a one off. Glad to see they now take cards too

There are two Pie and Mash shops in Chelmsford and no disrespect to the other one but Cooke’s is simply the best. Larger pies, better tasting liquor and piping hot. Also fantastic and friendly service. Bottom of Moulsham Street and well worth crossing the road from the town square!! Well done.

Went here for lunch and ordered a pie, mash and liquor. Cup of tea on the side and all sorted! Pie was delicious, mash superb and liquor excellent. One tea is always never enough and you know what? Lets order a fruit pie and custard too. 10 mins later (freshly made) a hot pie and custard arrives. Oh my word. Fabulous! Polished that off and decided to take home a beef pie and an apple pie (with custard) for the family to taste. Excellent experience and staff and can't wait to go back.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately the pie and mash was luke warm and the meat in the pie was clumpy. Also there are no toilet facilities for restaurant users!

After seeing master chef on tv yesterday, there was a man on there from the F.Cooke dynasty! As a lover of pie & mash, I checked out the website, and saw to my delight that there was a F. Cooke in Chelmsford! My mum and me went there today for lunch, and it was amazing. The girls at the counter were very welcoming. The pies were the most delicious pies I have ever tasted. The filling was beautifully seasoned. The mash was divine. Everything was just right. Totally recommend this establishment!!

Popped in for pie "n" mash for lunch and was greeted by lovely friendly staff. The pie and mash was delicious, we ordered 2 pies and 1 mash, one with liquor and one with gravy. Both meals were superb and the restaurant was spotlessly clean. Will definitely recommend and will visit again soon.

At last a proper Pie shop out of the Big Smoke! Been here several times and never disappointed. Great value and more to the point, traditional as it can get. Perfect liquor, plenty of chili vinegar and the mash is served the traditional way They even have a Veggie option or a Special Veggie option 😉 Great staff too so would definitely try if you haven't already, you wont be disappointed. Right, that's made me hungry writing this so i'm off for 2 & 2 😋

Cooke's know how to do pie and mash properly. Was so happy when one opened close and knew it wasn't going to disappoint. The family have been making pie and mash for over 100 years and the proof is in the product. Great big servings of proper pie, mash and tasty liquor! Can't wait to eat in, but for now will continue to collect or Deliveroo my fix!

We stayed for one night after Xmas shopping at the Clark’s village in Street. This lovely Inn with rooms is only 5 miles away. The welcome and check in from the lady at the desk were fantastic. She was naturally polite and helpful, not put on at all. Our room was very clean and spacious with everything we needed and lots of hot water for a relaxing bath. Homemade cookies were a nice touch too. We ate in the pub and can also say that this was a lovely experience with great food and a roaring fire. All staff were very friendly and provided fantastic service. Breakfast the next morning was also great with locally sourced ingredients. We will return, Thank you.

My wife and I both have Shepton connections but had never been to the cafe before. Having g recently retired, we called in for a toasty and a sandwich. The food selection is brilliant, prices really reasonable (no £8 sandwiches here), and the staff really friendly. Sadly, the cafe is up for sale but we really hope to get the chance to return before it closes or goes upmarket.

Booked a table for family of five for Halloween Service was polite and friendly, didn’t have to wait too long for our order and the meals were all hot quantity & quality was amazing. We all had fish & chips but there are other options of things to eat. Definitely value for money and will definitely be returning again

The refurb of this place is of a very high standard and the staff are friendly and helpful. Unfortunately the food lets it down. Primarily, if you don't like burgers or fish and chips, find somewhere else. I visited with a friend and although my fish and chips were good, my friends meal was first served on completely cold vegetables. On pointing this out to the waiting staff, she offered a replacement which, we expected would be a plated meal with hot food. Unfortunately it was delivered as a pile of veg and potatoes thrown together in a tin dish. Not ideal and a real disappointment. Probably would not visit again.
