The vanilla crepe brûlée with mango was absolutely beautiful. My husband had the sticky toffee pudding which he said was amazing. The cauliflower soup was lovely and portions of all food was excellent

Can't fault Eynsham Hall and it's Brasserie Restaurant, our room was perfect and suited the character of the historic building. The food was excellent and the staff from the reception to the restaurant all made us feel welcome. A great weekend away, thank you all and we will definately be back! Mr & Mrs Viner

Interesting room featuring everything copper. Going back to one its previous owner who made their fortune out of copper, this room has green walls and loads of old copper utensils on display. Even the menus has the look of copper thread around the edges. Food was great, especially the cotswold Lamb. Breakfast was nicely served and tasted great. Good choice of wine and the house red is well worth a try and is bottled especially for Eynsham Hall.

Although the hosts arrived late the food was not that hot and lacked flavour. The 60th birthday cake looked good and so did all the food. So we were really disappointed it lacked flavour.

Fantastic character hall, great bar for pre dinner, the food was exceptional and service very good. We loved the old style atmosphere, yet despite a large wedding the service was not compromised. I understand it will close for 2 years to undertake a £75m refurb. Hope the charm isn't spoiled. Great for Oxford and Blenheim.

The Bistro is located in the same place as the former dining room when it was a PTC. I selfishly chose to sit at a table in the same spot I had eaten at 40 years previously. The food was good and well presented, but not exceptional enough to justify the price, with what we considered to be only a limited menu. We asked the waiter if chef could prepare an alternative simple dish “off menu” (chicken or pasta!) for the following night but was told this was not possible, so we ate elsewhere in Oxford for our second night.

Very solid cooking with some gentle flavours. Portions are above average. Lamb dish mild and soft and well sauced. Fish and shellfish all well judged. Good sides. Go easy so have room for dessert. Desserts are of a high standard and definitely made in house. Sticky toffee normally one to avoid but here done to a very high standard. Creme Brulee again substantial. The room itself has very high ceilings and a degree of majesty however perhaps somehow need to up the atmosphere. Perhaps some classical music and some well place plants would do the trick. Would not hesitate to visit again.

Oh my, what a delicious meal N and I had when we stayed at Eynsham Hall. Each course was beautifully presented and skilfully crafted. We started with the scallops which were cooked to perfection. We had dinner twice during our visit. Everything was top rate, the people, atmosphere, food quality / portion sizes and wine selection. Particularly good was the scotch egg starter and the main course local burger. Having enjoyed both, I was unable to enjoy one of the yummy deserts on offer!! Well worth a try.

We have a number of delicious meals here. They have an extensive menu and all the food we ate was of a high calibre in terms of taste and presentation. The wine list is also extensive and the wines we chose were very flavoursome and moderately priced (for a restaurant). we would recommend this brasserie for either lunch or dinner. The service was attentive without being intrusive.

We ate here twice while staying at Eynsham Hall. We were told when seated that the halibut dish on the menu was not available. I chose a scallops starter followed by rump steak, my wife chose ham hock terrine followed by Gloucester Old Spot. The starters were good but personally I am not keen the inclusion of chorizo in scallop dishes as its taste overpowers the scallops. The main courses were both accompanied by nicely cooked chips and huge battered onion rings. The onion rings really did not belong on the plate. We both initially thought that our meat was tough because it was difficult to cut, but it turned out that the knives in the Brasserie are not sharp. While our meal went quite well, it has to be noted that a table adjacent to ours had the wrong wine delivered and a dish was delivered with onions when it had been ordered without them. We were assured when we were seated for our second meal that everything on the menu was available but when we tried to order the camembert starter it turned out to be not available. I ordered scotch egg as a starter and my wife chose scallops without the chorizo, we both chose halibut to follow. The water that we ordered was slow to arrive and while bread was served at all other tables we received none until I complained. On the plus side, the scallops were delivered without chorizo as requested and the food was generally good although the sauce with the halibut was a little too tart. My rating for the Brasserie reflects that fact that it is an upmarket restaurant where you would expect both service and food to be absolutely perfect. The staff need to be trained to provide outstanding service and the menu would benefit from some tweaks such as replacing the onion rings with something more suitable.

Most enjoyable food, and generous portions (possibly a little too large for our appetite - eg. a 10 oz steak). The service, although attentive, felt like we were being rushed (one course was nearly cleared before we had finished), possibly so staff could move their attentions to a wedding function in another part of the hotel. A variation of menu during our stay would likely have enticed us to go again.

We've eaten here a few times for business and the food and service have always been ok. We unfortunately hit a bad night with a really rude male waiter. He tutted when asked for coffee, pushed us to order when we had just been seated ( and it was still early ). He raised the blinds to indicate the closure of the restraint while we were still on main course. He did not take an order for drinks and was rude when we pointed this out. We are a very easy going group, but this time this one particular waiter spoiled the whole experience. A complaint to the hotel website was met with no response. ....

Stayed at the hotel for a couple of nights. Decided to go for restaurant despite 3 + half star reviews on trip advisor . Starter main and three drinks cost €80 but worth every penny . Bit like eating in a stately home , looks formal on entering but not so when you start to dine . Lots of interest in terms of the decor . Now to the food ........ starters a slightly bit expensive but the mains beautiful . I had the duck which was fab and my wife had the steak but plenty other options . Reason for writing the review is because of Bruno de Sousa who was our head waiter . What a passionate man , attentive and looked after us throughout . He even took time to talk to us about our interests and his home place , Portugal , recommending restaurants in Brava and elsewhere . Thank you all the staff , lovely evening , lovely food , lovely ambiance and a special shout for Bruno . Give it a go !! We enjoyed it a lot

A menu which lacked substance but was bolstered by pretentious gobbledegook obviously written by someone who had recently been given a culinary dictionary. A chicken dish straight out of KFC, a salmon dish you needed a microscope in order to find the fish, little or no vegetables unless you wished to purchase extra dishes all served with a warm white wine and a hefty bill. I was delivering a programme here for a few days and had not been to this venue before. The attention from the Events Manager (Dan) was excellent and everything we asked for was delivered. The Hall itself is a mock Jacobean style and has a grand feel to it. The bedrooms look as if they have had a recent makeover and I was very impressed with the result. The view from the bedroom window out over the Oxfordshire countryside was as good as you could ask for. There was some painting going on inside the Hall along with some stencil work on the walls, but this did not detract from the feel.

I nominated my mum for your "mum in a million" competition. I was so happy when I won and my mum was really excited to being treated for lunch for Mother's Day. All I can say is I'm appalled at the way we were treated. We sat down at our table at 1.55pm, there were various members of staff walking past but nobody came to even take a drinks order from us until 2.30. We were there almost an hour before we even got our starters and asked for bread four times before we were given some. When someone finally came to clear our starter plates we were told we could go and help ourselves to main courses. There was pretty much nothing left to choose from. You emailed me the menu when I won the competition, you must have known how many bookings you had so I've no idea how you simply ran out of food. I asked to speak to the manager who wasn't particularly helpful and needless to say we left after our starters. Far from making my mum feel like "one in a million" you made her feel awful. I poured my heart and soul into my entry for your competition and people know things about me they didn't before but I didn't mind that as my mum was getting a treat that she deserved. Instead she got a nightmare and you ruined our Mother's Day.

Many of the tables were very low and unsuitable for dining so it took a while to get a reasonable space for dining. We wanted to spend a long weekend in Oxford and chose to stay at nearby Eynsham Hall because it was only £100 for the night and the main building and Gun Room bar looked amazing in the pictures. We chose to stay in the cheap and cheerful 'lodge' to the side of the building but were happy enough (for the price we paid) for the small, clean and comfortable room with really lovely en suite. The only criticism I have of the room itself was that the sound insulation wasn't great and we could hear someone's kids screaming upstairs. Bed very comfortable, room very clean, water pressure great. We checked in advance that the Gun Room bar would be serving food when we got back from Oxford but when we went to the bar at 9pm we were grumpily told that they had stopped serving. There was a wedding going on and the two behind the bar looked thoroughly overworked and fed up, but we've all worked in the service industry before at some point and it wouldn't have killed them to crack a smile! We had to complain to the lady at reception that they wouldn't be serving food as agreed in advance and she was really decent about it. She spoke to the kitchens (and I assumed checked her emails in which someone had told us food would be served at this time) and a menu and an apology was at our table within 10 minutes.Food was great, if quite expensive, but the bolshy service let it down - the kitchen staff acted like we'd been unreasonable in wanting food after they'd told us they'd closed for the evening and cleared our plates etc whilst looking at us like they absolutely hated us! I don't think I've ever complained about something like this before, but I felt we were in the right. Basically our otherwise good/average experience was a bit spoiled by this.

From the outside, Eynsham Hall is a beautiful building and I can imagine it's a lovely place to stay for the weekend. However, the restaurant was highly disappointing; the beautiful building is not done justice by the tacky canteen-style tables and the service was lackluster and rude at times. I had the minestrone soup; as this was a main course I was expecting a good hearty meal. What I got was basically a few vegetables floating in water, with a fairly hefty price tag attached. I will say the meat dishes looked a lot better than what I was served; however I was left hungry and unsatisfied and would not come back.

My wife and I decided to have lunch at the Gun Room bar in Eynsham Hall as I've been suggesting we try it for some time; great location, fab old building with ambience etc. My wife had the tuna mayo & sweetcorn sandwich with the accompanying salad. Now although she is quite petite and a light eater, the third slice of thick wholemeal bread was rather unnecessary and just bulked it up so she ended up scraping the second layer off into the other and discarding one slice in order to actually get her mouth round it. When offered the choice of 8oz or 12oz rump steak I chose the 12oz (just because my wife said 8oz!) but for the first time ever wish I'd take the smaller steak. I asked for rare and although it took quite some eating away at the outside medium cooked I did get to the rare middle part (it did feel rare on the press test). However, although it tasted okay there was rather a lot of gristle and all the way through it was difficult to cut. I always save the middle of the steak till last so the final mouthful leaves a satisfying end to the meal but in this case I gave up trying to even cut it (that'll teach me to be greedy). Although I have no qualms with a little blood, when the plate first came, it was already swimming in blood and whilst rare is the way steak should be eaten, I'd say this was not left to sit long enough in a warm place. I don't usually like the offered sauces but sometimes have it in the side and in this case I took the peppercorn sauce but couldn't use it for two reasons, that it was quite runny and when I did pour a little out it just immediately mixed with the blood. All in all, not a great lunch but I think we'll probably try the main restaurant for dinner so I can be fair in writing a balanced review of the main menu.

Went to Eynsham Hall for afternoon tea to celebrate Mums 70th birthday.Unfortunately due to the weather we had to eat inside but there is the option to eat outside. There were 10 of us, from 2 years old to 70, we had our own room and waiter came to serve us.There were plenty of sandwiches which included salmon, ham, egg and cheese but it was the cakes that impressed us all. The chocolate éclairs (which are one of my favourites) were gorgeous, the cream tea was very close behind and then if neither of these appeal, my husband really enjoyed the bakewell pudding. The quality of food and drink was excellent.Décor in the room was ok, the table was slightly too large to reach across but we managed. The Hall has lovely gardens, with very picturesque views of surrounding countryside, there is also a bar there if required.Staff were friendly and the Hall appeared to be suitable for those with mobility needs. The Hall used to be used for training Police training prior to Hendon opening.

We go here before Christmas every year, the whole family - at the moment that is 14 plus - and have a wonderful, delicious meal. We choose our own starter and dessert and are served the main meal from platters by the friendly, efficient staff, dressed as angels and reindeer or in colourful onesies. The setting is simply beautiful - a huge, picturesque mansion in green, extensive grounds. Inside, the rooms are high-ceilinged, with long windows looking out at beautiful views.Father Christmas is so gentle and sweet with the children. There are balloons and party poppers provided for their entertainment too and the place is full - but does not feel crowded or uncomfortable in any way - with large family groups enjoying the pleasures Eynsham Hall has to offer. It might sound as if we would all be deafened, but the place is so big that the noise is a little swallowed up and there is just an atmosphere of fun and friendliness. This year we were regaled with carols from a delightful singing group, and entertained by a charming man who made balloon animals for the little ones and did incredible card magic for the adults.Highly recommended.

Great neighborhood pub hidden off the main roads. Nice mix of people, well chosen and unobtrusive music, welcoming garden area. An ideal place to have a pint or two in Headington.
