Visited the Exeter Inn today with my walking group, sixteen and four dogs. Nice place and nice staff. We had hoped to eat lunch there, but unfortunately that wasn't possible on the day. I had previously spoken to Malcolm the landlord and asked, as they couldn't do a lunch, if he would be happy for us to take our own food, and he very kindly said yes. Wow, thanks Malcolm. We wish you and Jane well for the future.

This pub is an ideal drinking hole for someone wanting to chill, have some drinks, possibly a bite to eat and know that you can get served quickly and have a yap if you want to. My favourite pub by a mile.

I stopped here after hearing a friend say it was very welcoming and friendly. Well I will certainly attest to that. Really nice little pub and reasonably priced too.

We very much enjoyed our hearty meals at this lovely pub. The portion sizes are very generous, reasonably priced and you will not leave hungry! Traditional English meals are on offer such as cottage pie, pork chops, faggots, fish and chips and bangers and mash and lots of others which are very much appreciated by the drivers who stop there for dinner as well as visitors like us. The pub itself was very clean including the toilets and we had a lovely chat with the landlady. In all, a brilliant find!

Came in for a roast which was bought for us as a present on groupon. First impression was it was unclean. The table had old sauce which we had to wipe off ourselves as we didn’t want to make a fuss. Quantities where big and we couldn’t finish the meals, we apologised and said we both weren’t keen on veg and that my girlfriend has a health condition where she can’t eat big meals, only to have a rude response. We finished up our food and said thanks very much only to have the landlady say how disgusted she was that we hadn’t finished it. We walked out feeling embarrassed and were appalled by the comments she made.

We visited this Sunday just gone using a Groupon voucher and whilst having been numerous times before i have to say the roast dinner and dessert were as good if not better than all the other times. Locally sourced meat, i had turkey the wife had pork, the gravy was great and the veg all freshly cooked. The meat was amazing tender and very very tasty. Dessert was cheap and the portion sizes large especially compared to what you get in other places. The welcome is always freindly and the atmosphere is relaxed. The Exeter Inn is one of our favourties we drive for nearly 45 minutes to get there, we will be back again as we know what to expect, good quality food at very reasonable prices with freindly service. i would have no hesitation recommending it to anyone, you just have to not judge the book by its cover and wait for the superb meal that awaits. You wont be disappointed, we never are. Thank you

Was looking forward to eating here after reading good reviews but was very disappointed. Had a Groupon voucher for 4 people for Sunday lunch. Voucher said I had to phone to pre-book a table. Rang several times as I kept getting an answer machine. In the end I left a message telling them I needed to book a table for a Groupon deal and asked for a call back. Waited 2 days but no call back. Rang again and actually got to speak to someone. They said they never got my message as they don't know how to listen to them! What's the point of having an answer machine then? When we arrived they found our booking and told us to find a table. The pub is really small with a handful of tables, which were all taken by what looked like locals, some with dogs, except for one table of 4, with no reserved sign on it. Waste of time pre-booking if they didn't reserve a table for us. If the free table had been taken we would have been standing around for goodness knows how long. The table was right in front of the main door, which meant it was very draughty and there was little room for people to get past as they came in. 2 of us were expected to sit on little stools, as chairs would have made the room for anyone coming in even worse to get past. However, my brother-in-law had no option but to swop the stool for a vacant chair as he needed back support and people just had to squeeze by. The meal was fine but when our plates were collected they didn't mention desserts, which were displayed on a blackboard. We decided what we wanted and asked at the bar if we could order desserts. The reply was "sorry we haven't any today". The pub is used as a truckstop and provides accommodation and food for drivers and you can tell. It is really small and very tatty with worn out tables and chairs. I saw one customer let his dog lick the table! Had I known I would never have booked this place. I felt let down as I had bought a Groupon voucher for my sister and brother-in-law's anniversary present and felt embarrassed I had taken them there. Would rather have spent more and taken them to a cleaner place with better service and desserts. Can't understand the great reviews at all. All I would say to people thinking of going there is don't do it!

A friend bought us a groupon Sunday roast gift for Exeter Inn. This must be the best pub grub you can ever wish to eat, my goodness it was amazing. My husband had roast lamb and I had the beef, the roast potatoes are to die for! I very rarely have a pud but had sticky toffee pudding and custard, it was pure indulgence. The pub is very friendly, the landlord is a really nice guy and the customer s in-there were really friendly and made us feel so welcome, the pub is a drive for us but now we have been there we will most definitely return.. it’s brilliant value and we know that we will get a really good home cooked meal, the customers that were in there were raving over the curry so we will try that next time, there is a great selection on the menu but sundays is roast only apparently but this is available all day.

I have responded to the experience questions despite a non visit. My message is based on the fact I was ultimately unable to enjoy the products from my online order, as I appear to be excluded from delivery listings due to the fact I live on a Scottish Island. Whilst understanding of the potential costs involved, perhaps the company could at least offer the option to the customer to cover such...something I would be only happy to oblige with....regardless of the amount David Wilkie Isle of Cumbrae Scotland 07488941692

We had to try the new Sunday lunch menu and we were not disappointed. Roast beef served with roast potatoes, parsnips, carrots, broccoli, cheesy leeks and a proper Yorkshire - not one of those rock hard crispy things restaurants often serve. Followed up with the best freshly cooked Blueberry Bakewell and cream. The staff were friendly and attentive. Thanks very much
