I booked Exe Restaurant for my Birthday dinner with twelve of my friends. After visiting the first time for a Sunday and receiving such amazing food and service, I knew we had to book it for my 25th Birthday. We had the most amazing evening, the food and service was impeccable. They even went to the extra effort of decorating the table and making it feel super special for my friends and I. Thus is one of my favourite restaurants in Exeter and if your looking for somewhere where the food is amazing and you feel really well looked after this place is for you. The staff are amazing, so friendly and helpful. They really do go that extra mile so thank you so much for having us. We can’t wait to come back.

A really lovely setting with attentive and welcoming staff. Sadly the roast is lacking. The turkey was really tough and there was little flavour in the meal. Watery gravy, tasteless Yorkshire. The sides are really good however with one of the nicest cauliflower cheeses I’ve had with a roast in a resturant. The creamed leeks are also lovely. It’s quite an expensive roast for the quality, happy to pay the extra if it’s worth it . I’ve had much better roasts for less.

Having read past reviews we were a little hesitant in dining here however we had one of the most enjoyable meals I’ve ever had. It wasn’t very busy on a Saturday night near Christmas apart from a few tables having the bottomless brunch. We started off having a few cocktails before our meal. All the food we had was spot on and delicious. I had vegan scallops(mushrooms with veggie bacon) and then buttermilk Turkey on mushroom risotto…so so good! My partner had duck buns to start and then hake. There’s a great selection for all diets, Perfect waiting times and attentive staff. I would recommend this restaurant without a doubt and couldn’t fault anything.

Great place for a date night, went for the Jazz evening with my partner. The service is excellent with all the staff being so warm and attentive. The cocktails are very well thought out and presented and the food is brilliant. A new favourite spot for us!!

Came here for a bottomless brunch and could not fault the food at all. It was so tasty and plenty of it, really impressed. Odd location for such a lovely restaurant decor was nice. Staff were attentive and service was quick. Great attention to detail even providing props for the best of British theme. Would come back again.

The facts. Music loud enough to be a disco. absolutely freezing venue and food very average. having mentioned the issues above to management they were not addressed, they were justified. Overall, it was extremely disappointing and very overpriced for what I received. I left the venue £85 lighter absolutely freezing and still hungry

We came for some late afternoon cocktails, which were expertly made, real attention to detail, and the bar man was keen to chat about what he was doing and make suggestions for other drinks to try. We were made to feel really welcome and it was a lovely couple of hours

Our friends have attended previous brunches at this venue and always spoke highly because of the value, atmosphere but most importantly the attention to detail and staff that cared . We went to the country and western brunch and to say we were disappointed is a light insult “unlimited cocktails fizzy champagne and draft beer” were not as advertised, word of mouth and seeing social media posts made our mind up but this brunch was nothing of the sort, food was outstanding but brunches as they go this one was a flop. From being told such positive things from prior to this one we attended waiting for small glassed shaken un drinkable cocktails and unwelcome remarks from the staff I will not be returning

After receiving a few great recommendations, I booked a reservation for my birthday celebration. We were seated at 7:30 PM as scheduled and placed our orders shortly after. However, we were disappointed with the overall experience. We waited approximately 45 minutes for our starters, even though the restaurant was not full. Although we were engaged in conversation and it wasn't a major issue, we did start to wonder why it was taking so long. Additionally, we waited around 30 minutes for our mains, and when they arrived, the steaks were mistakenly placed on the wrong plates. Although this may seem minor, one steak was rare while the other was well done. After some back and forth, the waiter assured us the issue was resolved, but it wasn't. My partner ended up having to scrape off the blue cheese from his steak and swap with a friend, as we didn't want to inconvenience the waiter further, despite the lack of action on their part. To make matters worse, all our meals were barely warm, and the fondant potatoes were cold for all of us. As the main dish was priced at nearly £30 per person, we felt it was justified to raise the issue. After finally getting someone's attention, I requested to speak to the manager. A lady came over, and I expressed our dissatisfaction with the situation. However, instead of offering apologies, her responses were defensive in nature. She mentioned that they had a busy service, which we disagreed with. As a gesture of apology, she removed the veal dish from the bill, which I checked with the table and we collectively agreed was acceptable. Our new meals arrived approximately 25 minutes later, and we did enjoy them. We also ordered more drinks, but there was a mix-up with the order. When we brought it to the attention of the barman, he came over to the table & acted defensively and claimed they were the correct drinks that he had poured. Although it was a simple fix, unnecessary attention was drawn to the matter. Eventually, the manager offered us a free round of drinks, for which we thanked her. Overall, we found the experience to be extremely disappointing. While we want to support your restaurant as feel supporting Independent business is vital we feel that the way certain aspects were handled lacked professionalism. We believe that there are areas that require real improvement & hope that this can be done.

I came to two brunches prior to this booking and it was excellent! The food was incredible the music was on theme the staff were lovely and the place was a sell out . But the brunch I came to on Saturday the gentleman in charge temporary changed the rules without telling us, the drinks rules had changed to not being able to order another cocktail until the rest of the table had finished which was ridiculous my family had to rush their drinks, the music was quiet and most songs were foreign so we couldn’t understand them, the weeks prior to this we had props etc on tables the menus and cocktails were no where near as bog standard as most restaurants but this week the cocktails had changed and they were tiny portions. Again weeks prior there was a bottle of Prosecco on the table at arrival this time we had it poured by a waiter and it was the smallest portion not even enough for a sip. There was also jugs of pimms on the table at the previous brunches but we didn’t ask for these but when the waitress came over to see if we were ok we were told the gentleman in charge had said ‘they are only complaining because they wanted pimms’ We complained to the gentleman in charge named Dan and he was so rude and arrogant, kept addressing my family member as darlin when she told him she did not like that. My family member asked for a wedge for the table at the beginning of the brunch as it was very wobbly and he shouted across the room are you drunk?. The food was the only good thing about the brunch. There were two waitresses Caitlin and Lianne and they were very attentive and a pleasure to speak to they kept us filled with water as that is all they were able to do, they were wondering round aimlessly finding things to do as The restaurant only had 3 table bookings and it was completely dead inside, previous brunches were a complete sell out. I took my family to this brunch with the reviews of the previous brunches and we couldn’t wait but we were utterly disappointed. My family member asked to speak to the man in charge again and he continued to be rude to her. We have sent a complaint to the restaurant and hoping to hear back. But I would not recommend a brunch here with that gentleman in charge.

We finally went to exe for the Sunday roast and god it was amazing The pork was cooked to perfection And the Yorkshire puddings and cauliflower cheese was beaut! It was a lovely sunny day and got there early so sat in the garden space having a drink while we waiting for our table Great service and friendly staff really great restaurant and the best roast for sure 😊

Nice decor, which sadly is where the praise stops. Abruptly. Self proclaimed as fine dining, someone really should tell the menu, the staff and the speakers.. Fine dining it is not. Not even close. Food choice would equate to a nice pub in choice. It's not cooked very well. Steak over cooked, pork with soft chewy crackling, seafood that smells and too fishy for comfort. Staff are distant, vacant, slightly arrogant but most of all cannot wait to get you out the door. The desperation to get you out must be driven by the fact that there is just no atmosphere. No customers, empty. A couple of heads popped through the door, only to quickly retreat due to a sea of deserted tables. Nothing fits together. The food is wrong for the price and just not good enough. The staff don't fit the venue (fine dining), the music would be played next door on an under 18s night, the ambience is wine bar and the atmosphere is, 'it would be surprising if it is still open in 6 months'. The days when you might get away with poor food, poor service and poor experience are long gone. You can get all that in KFC for a tenth of the price.

The end is here soon for this place, gone backwards rapidly. A total of 3 hours waiting for and consuming one meal, potatoes re cooked, lack of veg,rubbish wine menu........... short service by far- no staff. One chef, how this place has gone so far downhill in 12 months is unreal. We will never return.

Love this place. Had tried it for Sunday Lunch but Saturday Dinner was not disappointing …Fantastic food and service and a lovely ambiance. Will return again and would recommend to others

This place is excellent. Great ambiance and the food is amazing. 2 courses for £24 for Sunday lunch ….and the selection of wine is good and very reasonable. Service excellent so we will return again and again
