Essex Marina in Rochford

Absolutely gorgeous place. Lovely food. Great staff but object to people standing smoking right by you while you are eating flicking ash! Has put us off going back unless you sit indoors. Shame really.

Amazing find! Friendly staff, nice location and food cooked beautifully, nicest lunch have had in a while. We took our small dog and sat outside overlooking the marina. Really recommend the haddock cheese and egg bake if it’s on the specials board. Plenty of parking £1 for 3 hours

Went with a few friends for drinks which is a really nice spot for drinks however when a friend asked about the gluten free options was greeted with a comment of “she must know what she can have”. This put a downer on the drinks and after one drink we left due to myself feeling very unwelcome and uncomfortable by this comment. I don’t believe they had any alternatives. Some of the group ate and the food did look really good but not ideal for any allergens.

After a long time away we took our grandchildren to Southend to visit the pier and have a fun day. On the approach, speed limits constantly switched between 50, 40, 30 and 20mph. We were lucky that my car recognises speed limit signs and automatically adjusts the maximum speed of the car. It also bleeps when near a speed camera - we couldn’t have the radio on due to the constant bleeping. Don’t lose your concentration as they don’t take prisoners. Parking - at £3.50 per hour for on street parking, I can’t recall anywhere more expensive, but the cost is only part of it, trying to pay was even more difficult. Obviously you can’t pay by cash - and none of the pay stations we tried would accept a credit or debit card - it just wouldn’t work. An incredibly friendly traffic warden (rare breed?) explained it was all managed somewhere far away, (Yorkshire?) and it is quite common for them to be out of action. He explained that only the App on a smart phone works reliably. We didn’t have the App, for whatever reason, I couldn’t download it, so we went home. Great day out!

Had a lovely breakfast here this morning. There were 4 of us and we all thoroughly enjoyed our food . The smoked haddock was amazing ….. looking forward to returning for fantastic food and great service 😁

Very friendly staff and amazing view over the river Crouch. Drinks great. Food - fine if you don't have any food intolerances. However, if you don't eat gluten you're going to starve, and there is no alternative option. There are a couple of vegan meals, but no non dairy milk for coffee, no non dairy / non gluten desserts. Such a shame they are behind the times with regard to this, as its such a great little place. It doesn't take much to keep non gluten bread in the freezer, buy vegan ice cream and get a couple of cartons of oat milk in.

My wife and I have gone to the Wardroom about 5 times this year. Always a very friendly welcome, which we really appreciate. Good food and drinks and very clean. My wife loves good coffee and rates what they serve very highly.

Lucy looked after us so well, superb food (some of the best mussels I have had), and savage banter..

Spent an afternoon watching a band and had a really nice time in the company of like minded people. The staff were friendly and attentive prices not too bad either

Whilst out for a walk at the nearby RSPB reserve we stumbled across The Wardroom for a welcome coffee. As the food menu looked very enticing, we went back for lunch after finishing our walk. The food and beer were excellent! Also live music was there on a Saturday afternoon. A great find, we will be back.

Place was miserable, now to add to the disappointment unless a marina berth holder you must pay to park here, and its not cheap. Had a drink then left without food.

After hearing how good this place was for breakfast we decided to try it. Wish we hadn’t bothered. Cannot comment on the food as after ordering and waiting for over an hour and still no sign of food we decided to leave. We were told when we arrived that the normal chef was on holiday however nothing was said about the long wait for food. At no point was this mentioned. My husband went in to pay for our drinks and tell them we were leaving and they said our food wouldn’t be long. We left anyway along with probably 3 other couples that hadn’t received their food. What should’ve happened when we arrived was to be told it would be at least an hour wait for food and we would’ve just had drinks or gone elsewhere.It’s all good saying sorry for the long wait but tell people BEFORE they order. Won’t be going back and I presume a lot of others won’t either. Such a shame as we were looking forward to it and it’s a lovely peaceful area sat out on the balcony.

I'd read article which recommended The Wardroom as a little known gem, so we decided to head over for breakfast. Wasted journey. Setting was great and very relaxing. We were told chef was away so not the full menu - ok that's fine. However, 1 hour and 20 mins later we were still waiting for breakfast to arrive. I'm afraid we decided to follow the lead of 2 other tables that had endured enough and left paying only for the drinks we'd ordered and received an hour earlier. Just very disappointing. The 'system' in place of ordering was chaotic. Can't comment on the food - although from what we saw eventually reach other tables looked good - friendliness of service was great, quality of service was appalling. So disappointed as the setting was great but basics were non existent. Not going back.

We spent a very nice afternoon on the balcony over looking the river. The location really is special. The lunch menu offered lots of choice and the food was good as was the service. Our conversation was interrupted by what I assume was the local bearded nut job who had obviously been eve’s dropping on our private conversation, and who, after downing two beers, suddenly launched in to a maniacal tirade and then, fortunately, left whilst we watched him disappear on to the marina pontoon - an absolute head case if ever there was one, and one, who we hope will not be there next time we visit. We followed this unexpected interlude/cabaret with some delicious fresh coffees and left contented and full late in the afternoon Overall highly recommended

This is, we were told, under new management and it really is very good. My husband had scrambled eggs on toast (choice of bread and the granary looked lovely) from the all-day breakfast menu and I had a chicken burger from the lunch menu - big chunks of breast meat in a crispy coating with a generous portion of chips and sides. There is also a range of sandwiches and paninis if you don't want a full meal. The balcony looks out over the River Crouch. From earlier reviews, I suspect the previous cafe wasn't great but don't let them put you off - based on our meal there today, this is worth a visit.

A fantastic location looking out across the river and countryside, and Covid measures have been well implemented (apart from the hand sanitiser outside the toilet being empty. Food was a huge disappointment, I do not expect to pay around £8 for a cheeseburger that would shame a burger van from the 1970's. Cheap, thin slurry burger was pretty awful. I would have thought the yachting fraternity demand more. Seeing the cook moving tables & chairs around next to us while smoking a rollup completed the low-grade impression of the place.

My Wife & Myself... Plus our dog, popped in on the offchance on Saturday afternoon for a drink.... I asked if we could bring the dog up onto the outside seating area, we were told, so long as he was on his lead & well behaved he was welcome inside !...Originally we were just going to have a drink... But after the dog was given a free sausage & the smell of cooking from the kitchen became too much to stand, we ordered food ourselves...Cajun Chicken & Dirty Fries, and good old Sausage, Egg & Chips.....All very tasty & serves in warm cozy & very friendly surroundings....Highly Recommended,,,, & we will be back...soon!,

Love stopping off here for a bit of lunch or just a coffee before a walk. Can't wait to try it in the summer so we can sit outside with the lovely views. A little gem of a place!

Called back to the Marina bar where I spent many an enjoyable time some years ago.Food and drinks available at reasonable prices.Friendly service.

Visited when driving past a couple of Sundays ago with my daughter, had a drink and sat at bar and then outside on the balcony, lady serving was prompt, everyone there looked to be regulars and very relaxed... could see they made any meals people asked for and service was quick. Will go back as I live just 10 mins away and it took me 3 years of living here to see we have such a nice tranquil place nearby.

A group of us went here for lunch while on holiday at the caravan site nearby, the place was advertised everywhere, they had run out of practically everything we ordered, then after having to change all our orders we waited for my husbands ham salad which after half hour they told us they had also run out of that!!! She hadn’t charged me as she knew they had run out but didn’t bother to tell us, and then instead of bringing the food to the table they shouted over the balcony to go and collect it!! NEVER AGAIN

We stopped here from drinks and something to eat. You sit upstairs and as it was a lovely day sat outside. You get great views of the river and marina so sit back and people watch!! Food was ok and not overly expensive.

We often visit this bar for a coffe/snack, just to get out of Southend to the countryside. It’s all about the peaceful location, overlooking the river. The staff are really helpful and friendly and the food is wholesome and good value. This bar doesn’t try to be ‘fancy’, but the staff and view together create a really relaxing atmosphere.

Went here for a friends 21st and the service was appalling! 7 of us attended and only 5 got their food as they run out of Gammon, they then served the wrong food after ordering a replacement and then waited over an hour for the re replacement. We then went to the bar the complain and the server was over heard saying they want to ‘knock us out’ for complaining after an hour! We were shocked and very disappointed in the service and two of us had to argue to get our money back! We will not be visiting again

This is very local to us but we'd never been in there. However last summer we decided to call in after walking the dogs and we're so glad we did. It's a little gem with friendly staff and a great view over the river.On a nice day we sit on the balcony with our drinks and food and it's lovely but of course we were driven inside with the onset of the colder, wet weather. There's nothing pretentious about this place, just plain tables but the chairs are comfy and in winter there's a log-burner blazing away. The food's very well priced with nothing over £10 including their Sunday roasts which are very nice and generous with the meat too. The girls behind the bar are all lovely and make us feel like one of the family. If you like plain food, nothing fancy, then this is the place to go.

This place was a nice watering hole to visit after a walk along the sea wall and visiting the Lifeboat station. (Naming of a New Lifeboat)We Sat upstairs looking out onto the Marina with a Couple of Beers and some peanuts on a hot afternoon bliss!A nice place that was well kept and equipped. There was a lot of people in the bar at the time we visited, many of them must have been locals that were drinking and chatting to the staff and at the time was very boisterous. But service was fairly quick and we was not made to feel like an outsider by the friendly staff.

Nice place by the river to stop for a snack and drink after taking a boat trip. Friendly staff. Approx £8 for two cans of drink, a tea and two cakes.

Intentamos visitar la marina después de un paseo por el rompeolas. Admito que fue de 10 a 4, pero el bar tenía muchos clientes en agua potable. El propietario se negó ofreció una bebida caliente, a pesar del hecho de que estaba sirviendo a los clientes en el tiempo. La actitud era tan lejos de ser amable como podría conseguir - ni siquiera un lo siento, pero un brusco cerca pronto. Bonito! No nos molestó de nuevo.

Después de un agradable día caminando con mi pareja y mi hija de 3 años admirando hermosas vistas y explorar la tierra paramos aquí para el almuerzo.

Good place to go good place to eat a bit of grub full of big strong men especially Rico they served up jelly fish for lunch but over all funny to untie the boats and push them out to sea & fire lead ball bearings at the boats funny my mate 17a dailys road works here and said its the best place to use a prostate milking device.

Fuimos con unos amigos después de leer TripAdvisor y me sorprendió gratamente. Me había pasado el lugar en varias ocasiones y pensamos que sería un club privado a la fraternidad marinera que no lo es. Cálida bienvenida de un personal amable y unas vistas fantásticas. La comida es casera y de un muy buen estándar. Amplia selección de bebidas a precios razonables. Gran lugar para detenerse. intentarlo. Muy recomendable.

Loved this place, we visited on a lovely day so was disappointed not to be able to sit up top. Also I can understand the bar only wanting their customers to use the toilets but Its a bit of a trek to have to go upstairs to get the code so you can use the loo. We sat out in the sun downstairs, we had sandwiches and chips, very well made although the bread was a little hard as though it had been sitting there for a bit. Also no sauces were offered so another trek upstairs was required. Very reasonably priced food and drink we will be back to try something else and maybe get out up top this time as has a lovely view of the boats and water.

Brilliant coffee! Staff are very friendly. Darren can cook up a mean breakfast. Love going here. Beautiful views of the Marina.

Best Scampi and Cheesy Chips in Essex By Far... Definitely worth a visit! Really welcoming staff who always make you feel at home!

As a liveaboard on this Marina , the bar is my "local". Always good and friendly service, good selection of drinks, decent prices and decent food. Not to mention great views from the balcony.

Lovely friendly bar and restaurant at Wallasea. Great to stop off after a walk at the Wetlands. Best chips ever!!!! Well worth a visit.
