Me and my wife stayed here for two nights, the staff were very helpful the food was excellent, the bar was a little pricey and maybe a little restricted for choice. But overall an excellent stay.

Had lunch and afternoon tea here before lockdown. It was very nice so after promising ourselves a return visit off we trot at long last Wish we hadn't bothered Service was embarrassingly slow Starters arrived, both without any of the promised dressing Beef was tough and lots of fat Chicken and sauce was really nice but the amount of greens made me gag Desserts - which we had to chase after 35 minutes were mediocre My glass of Syrah Grenache on the wine list I think said £10 approx, I asked for a large measure and was charged £13 something, which on reflection was probably my fault The bill arrived quite promptly actually, £89.10 Based on the ambience ? Service ? Quality of food ? Overpriced I could have complained but as there was so much not up to standard, I felt embarrassed. Needless to say we will not return

We booked afternoon tea for my mother's birthday. On arrival reception staff and waiting staff were extremely friendly and gave us a warm welcome. The place itself is lovely and the surroundings are beautiful. Unfortunately, we were sat in a room with a couple obviously planning to get married there. However the lady (wedding planner maybe) was so loud and it was a constant flow of noise. We were the only party there so we could have been sat somewhere else or the sales pitch could have been in another area. This really spoilt the experience for us, we could not hear ourselves think it was so disruptive and really ruin the relaxing peaceful experience we were hoping for. Afternoon tea arrive our server was lovely, however the bread was not fresh it was almost stale. The rest of the food was OK. I would not recommend this, the main thing that ruin this experience was the extremely loud lady selling a wedding. Like I say we walked through the hotel and there was plenty of empty rooms, spaces this could have taken place. This would have left us I'm peace to enjoy our experience.

The Sunday lunch menu provided a delicious choice of dishes. The Stilton and mushroom arancini were tasty and generous, (however, the terrine portion was quite small). The main courses of daube of beef and pork belly, were lovely, as were the chocolate fondant desserts (perfect). The whole experience was somewhat dampened by the empty dining room, the swearing coming from the kitchen just as we sat down and the inattentive staff. There was a waitress who kept disappearing and had to be fetched by the chef to serve, when she failed to respond to the increasingly loud requests for service. There was a receptionist who wandered about with a can of pop and a ? manageress who kept walking about with a sheet of paper, neither of whom were to found when we wanted to settle our bill. It's a shame that the chef's lovely food and the lovely old building are let down by inattentive staff, who seem so unprofessional.

We booked the Luxury Afternoon Tea, yesterday, as it was my birthday. I requested a proper height table and chairs, as we find eating from low coffee tables and sofas, not comfortable. I was assured that was not a problem. On arrival we were shown to low sofas and coffee table!! A table, in the darkest corner of the library, behind a wedged open door, was quickly set up and the tea and food arrived almost instantly. The waiter departed, never to visit us again. There was no tea menu, until I asked. The whole 'Luxury Afternoon Tea' was the worst I've ever had. Poor presentation, appalling cake selection, comprising 6 brown cubes, 3 of which were stale, 3 macarons, and 3 of the tiniest eclairs ever! It looked really unappetising . The sandwiches were very dull and poorly presented. Not to mention the milk jug with a large chip out of it!! The best thing was the scones and the tea. Both excellent. Maybe we should have had a cream tea instead LOL As it was my birthday, it was so disappointing. I know that we won't be going again. They ought to have a look at what a Luxury Afternoon Tea should be ( See The Cookie Jar in Alnwick!)

The restaurant is fairly expensive and to be honest the quality of food and presentation needs improving for the price. I love the hall, staying there and the surroundings however in my view the one thing that lets it down is the dining room. The staff are nice. Also, not meaning to be offensive, but you really need to get a new carpet in the dining room as it is the first thing you look at when you enter the dining room.

At £105 per person you would expect a really good first class, excellent, tasty and professionally served meal.... yes??.... Not a chance at Eshott Hall, at least on 25/12/19 ... last year’s Christmas Day lunch. There was 13 of us all neighbours and family all living within 1/2miles of the Hall so we thought how lovely and convenient to go there even though the price was about £25 a head more than others in a 30 mile radius. What a mistake... on arrival we were promised a room with a roaring fire and champagne served before lunch, we were put into a side room off the hallway with not a trace of Christmas decorations tables not even with cloths and not enough chairs, after 5 minutes I set off to find the champagne as no member of staff appeared to serve us. Eventually called in to the restaurant and they were still setting our table!! The food at best can only be described as abysmal, dried out Ballantine of turkey 2 bowls only of mushy pre frozen mixed vegetables... no serving utensils at all we used our dessert cutlery and by the time the bowls were sent around the food was only warm, regardless it was not edible so it made no difference! Desserts were of the pre frozen bought in variety... as was the whole meal we think. There were no condiments from the start so by the time they arrived the food was left by most of us and sent back, not a comment from any member of staff!! Wine was part of the deal offering 3 glasses per person, in theory, the wine guy appeared immediately on sitting down ...great.... we tried to order drinks from the bar .... no staff to take the order until 30 mins had passed...and non ever again ... even when I went behind the scenes near the toilets to find 3 staff having a giggle and chat to ask for service....we could not get another drink hence our total bar bill £15!!!! and 13 very sober guests!!!! The wine guy appeared again at the start of the second course service, some ladies said not just now we still have some but call again in a few mins ... he didn’t so when he appeared for the third time, dessert service, he “argued” we all had had two glasses so this was everyone’s last chance! When he was told that was incorrect he again started to get abusive and suggested I should speak to the manager. So he eventually arrived and agreed with the waiter..... but stomped off and got a bottle of white wine... partially used... and slammed it on the table and walked off. We left it where it was put. Coffee and petite fours were supposed to be served after lunch, neither arrived but some chocolates were on a table by the door on the way out! I enclose a photo of a staff member serving with black wooden gloves on, not a pleasant site. While outside waiting for our transport we heard other discussions the same as ours so many complaining to the management and staff. I am writing on behalf of our party and waited until now to air our views to warn others of the poor standards of last Christmas. Several of us went on holiday for a time after Christmas Day so did not take action immediately after the event however after returning later in January I did call into the Hall on a Friday to speak to the manager he was on day off, I left my number for him to call ... he never did!!! In short the whole day at Eshott was a disgrace....

After looking at their Christmas brochure which screamed luxury settings with open fires, we ended up in an undecorated cold room while sipping pre dinner drinks as the other room with the fire had a handful of chairs and no room for our party. We sat down to another poor decorated room; but we were determined to enjoy the day at £105 per head including 3 glasses of wine....sadly it got worse after the edible starters wine was poured with no organization whatsoever in fact it ended up being farcical and you could see by the unsmiling staff that they wished they were somewhere else, service was poor and after requesting simple condiments ie salt and pepper; which seemed were rationed; arrived after some of the eaten food was cleared away; which incidentally was dried out turkey leg with a piece of ham on top accompanied by 2 bowls of mixed veg to feed 12 of us with no serving spoons and trying to attract waiters was like contacting the dead, we had to use dessert spoons to serve ourselves and watery gravy. As I stated earlier we tried as best possible to have a good day which we did after arriving back home where we had drinks snacks and games.....just as well eh!

We visited in August for one night. Service was slow and uncoordinated, no senior staff appeared and everything was left to two junior waitresses who , although friendly and pleasant, lacked sufficent training for a restaurant that wants to be "fine dining".The food was not great, it lacked seasoning and was often overcooked. All around the dining room people were sawing at meat dishes. My dessert was so poor I asked for it to be taken off the bill. This was readily agreed to.

Eshott Hall is in a beautiful setting. The decoration is stunning and the food outstanding. The gardeners were hard at work when we arrived, the gardens are very pretty and well tended. We were greeted by a male member of staff who was very friendly and polite, he brought our drinks, and advised us on local places to visit.A female staff member took our food order, again friendly. The same lady returned to take us to our table and announced 'I haven't brought a tray to carry your drinks'. We followed her to a lovely window table looking onto the garden. The same lady brought our starters, Prawn Cocktail , on the same plate was a whole slice of sour dough bread which was served without butter and no butter was offered. I would say the restaurant is fine dining so I thought this was unusual.Overall a lovely place and fab food.

We love Eshott Hall and today we took my mother-in-law for a belated Mother’s Day lunch. The ambience was, as always, relaxed and restful. We had Sunday lunch and in the main it was a good lunch. Only two small complaints - firstly the cauliflower cheese was cold but in with the rest of the meal I could accept that. Secondly, I ordered fruit salad, berries were mentioned as part of the dish. I did get fruit, a bowl of assembled fruit. There was no syrup or liquid of any sort with the fruit. I had thought maybe a little jug of cream or similar might have come along but the fruit was just put in a bowl. Apple slices, orange segments, raspberries, very soft strawberry slices (frozen?) and nectarine slices, as I say, put in a bowl. It was disappointing and would need little effort to make it acceptable, not what I had expected.

It was like being a guest at a stately home with first class food, rooms and service. Being a party of 12, we were given our own private dining room and a room was set aside for our last evening's AGM. The manager and chef even prepared extra dishes for our last dinner menu so that we did not have to repeat choices. More than 100% care from all of the staff. We are thinking of repeating our stay in a couple of year's time, something we have only done once before.

Beautiful setting and lovely room , however this hotel was badly let down by lack of decent service. Our stay was a Sunday and despite being relatively full there were very very few staff around. Had to wait for about 5 mins at reception before anyone appeared and then we were just pointed in the general direction of our room with no offer to help with bags. The front of house/manager was obviously on a day off as staff could be heard in the back and dirty glasses remained uncleared in the bar , sitting room and outside sitting areas for at least 4 hours . In addition a bed and associated linen and bedding sat outside our room partially blocking the corridor for the duration of our sat , together with housekeeping boxes full of toiletries . The food in the dining room was delicious although served in cramped surroundings with the exception of the table allocated to the owner and party who had the best table in the house ! That said , our room was beautiful. Perhaps we were just unlucky in our choice of date as on the Monday morning there were noticeably more staff around. We just felt that Eshott was a beautiful ship without a Captain.

We enjoyed lunch at the restaurant, especially the food. All three course were well made and beautifully presented. The weakness with this establishment is the waiting staff; we ordered drinks and I was asked if I wanted a glass for my bottled beer, then a waitress knocked my wife's coat off the back of her chair and although fully aware of what was done failed to pick it up and once we hand finished our meal and even before we asked for it the bill was slapped face up on the table, unlike other dinners who first requested the bill and then it was offered in a bill wallet. These are small issues but when you talk to friends on your dinning experience you always focus on the unusual events.

It appears to me that the some of comments from management, about people s feed back is very dull. Some may have had bills reduced we did, but in reality a sorry just dosnt quite cut it. Maybe comments like we are sorry your stay was not up to the standards we advertise, we aim to improve in the areas pointed out in your comment s. We also will make sure that in the future all room s are checked by senior staff to make sure house keeping and all other amenities are of high standard. I personally don't think telling customers the there comments are wrong or they are not constructive, is the way forward. We all have different standards, some higher than others. I used to run my own cleaning business until my health took a turn for the worst. If I'd left clients homes the way some of the rooms are been left, I'd would of expected my clientele, to decline. The meals are not cheap so if decent produce is not been used then decent meals won't be turned out, every customer has the right to an opinion especially at the rates this place charges. While staff were friendly and pleasant I still believe there is lessons to be learned. From house keeping up to management . Just my thoughts

One is first struck by the Hall's beautiful setting but this is equally matched as one enters the building. The decor and furnishings are tasteful but , more importantly , give the feeling that they are a house guest at an Edwardian weekend gathering. The pre-prandial drink taken in the library helped set the scene but this is reinforced by our bedroom, no little box room here, large and individually furnished. Our room had a wonderful view of the walled garden and tennis courts, both of which were in use.A menu laid emphasis on local produced was well presented and well cooked.. All this could not have been achieved without the staff who were helpful and friendly with nothing too much bother.Drawbacks - yes. I had to go home!

Reception was friendly and room was superb. Minor gripes that wi-fi was very poor and plug in whb didn't work. Apparently they were aware of these issues but didn't advise us on check-in. Restaurant is advertised as 2AA rosette standard, food was fine but not impressive. Service was satisfactory. Over two days we never saw the same staff twice, apart from the gardeners. I said most of this in my review of Eshott Hall as a hotel, however in case someone is searching the restaurants here goes. Dinner, the menu was varied and appealing and overall executed really very well, you could be picky and find some ways you might improve it (my tartin which came with my starter had very soggy pastry, but I quite like that), but overall both my partner and I were really happy with our choices. Not perfect but really very nice. Breakfast was a slightly different matter, my partner chose the full English which looked really good and he seemed to enjoy it. I chose the Eggs Benedict which surprised the waitress and I suspect the chef. The poached egg was cool and hard, the ham slices had not been separated from each other, the muffin was very hard and the hollandaise had the appearance and taste of one from a jar and it smothered everything. I didn't send it back as writing about it sounds worse than it was, it wasn't all inedible and I find sending things back and complaining really difficult to do. So overall very good food, but I would take the eggs benedict off the menu if I were them!Service for both meals was excellent

This is a long review, but the gist is, this could be a very good hotel, but there are several areas which need improving. For us, it did not quite hit the mark. The staff could not be faulted, the food is good but not outstanding, except breakfast, which needs some work.We visited this hotel for a 2 night break. We arrived in the dark. The approach is down a very narrow country lane with little signage visible. On arrival at the hotel, it gave the impression that there was no-one about. No visible signs for car park, very little lighting. We went into reception to be greeted with a very friendly member of staff. Our room was comfortable, good size with a mostly tiled en suitebathroom with separate shower. The bed was comfortable. The room was a little shabby (Stable View Room), the wallpaper in the bathroom was beginning to peel off the walls, although the sanitary ware and tiled areas looked new. The window blinds were a little dirty. The carpet in the bedroom was a little dirty. We had a bar meal in the bar area, this was a pleasant meal. The staff were all very cheerful and very visible. The general atmosphere was noisy, music too loud, staff rushing around, bottles dropped into an empty container and smashing....just noisy and not conducive to a pleasant relaxed area. The bar area/library is full of interesting books, but the light level is so poor, one cannot read. The food was good, tasty and hot. On retiring to our room, there was a huge amount of noise from two outside doors and other room doors banging. During the night, after everything settled down, we heard no further noise and slept reasonably well. There are tea and coffe making facilities in the room, including a cafeteria. The jar containing the fresh coffe had about 2 teaspoons of coffee and was filthy.....I had to leave it to soak.Breakfast was tasty, after I sent my fried egg back and had a fresh fried one done. The first egg could have been made last week and kept warm on the griddle, it was very rubbery and just horrid. Our second night was quieter, dinner was fine.I had mentioned, on the first morning about the state of the coffee jar, the sink not draining and the squeaking door to our room. The coffe jar was cleaned, the other two matters ignored. Not good.Breakfast on the second morning, my fried egg was a little better, but I could not be bothered to send it back. They don't have baked beans......not a crime but....We would probably not go back.

Our completely empty plates spoke for themselves - it was DELICIOUS! Especially the light and tangy cheese scones and the equally tasty fruit ones with the gorgeous home-made bramble jam (and clotted cream) We each had a selection of 5 mini cakes - chocolate, lemon drizzle, Victoria sponge, carrot, plus a lime macaroon. We'd started with sandwiches and enjoyed plenty of tea throughout. The setting is lovely - we were seated in the opulent lounge, with a warm and welcoming log fire. Had mulled wine in the library and then had 3 course dinner in the dining room. The food was delicious and the staff were warm, friendly and helpful. Had a very good night's sleep. Breakfast in the morning was delicious and set us up for the day. I would love to stay again and would highly recommend it.

Came with my son, his girlfriend and their new puppy for my husbands birthday. A very warm welcome, especially for the puppy. We had an enormous deluxe room with a fabulous bathroom and lovely deep bath. Very welcome after a freezing walk . My son had a luxury room, complete with four poster bed, all in the main house. Very comfortable relaxed sitting rooms, great to have afternoon tea, play board games or just veg in front of the roaring fires. Dinner was so delicious the first night we booked again for the second night. The staff are fantastic, very friendly and efficient. Somehow managed to juggle a full hotel, preparations for a new years eve wedding effortlessly. Close to the beach, Alnwick and beautiful walks all round. We'll be back

we were upgraded fee to the Mandarin Bedroom in the Hall itself and it was truly fabulous; we had booked for the Grange which is much more of a bargain, so were thrilled with the upgrading (not least because it was snowing and the prospect of a cold walk up the drive wasn't at all appealing!)

We stayed one night with our dog for her first stay away from home. The staff were warm, kind and couldn't do enough to make sure we were happy. A couple of minor hitches were dealt with extremely quickly and efficiently and the hall itself was full of character and warmth. The location was excellent and we had an absolutely love stay. We will certainly recommend and return.

There is a massive gap between "average" and "very good" so may I rate this one as "good"? It's pretty close to being very good and I am sure that many people would rate it as such. Let's talk about the room - light, clean and airy with good napery and a fresh atmosphere. Three course lunch, starter of chicken terrine and celeriac was pretty delicious, good bread buns to go along. Main course for the traditional lunch was the usual Sunday choice but non the worse for that. Here's where I may differ, There was lots of it. No one could leave Eshott Hall hungry. Just too much for me.Vegetables were a little on the cremated side - but again that's just me.Staff were speedy (always a good thing) enthusiastic and friendly but would benefit from a little more restaurant training. Not their fault in my opinion. But again, it would be a mean person who said it spoiled their lunch. Then there is value. No, it's not fine dining but if you like a big lunch served with a smile in gracious surroundings you won't go wrong at this price and the building and grounds are lovely. So as I said "good" not "average".My own conclusion is that I am very difficult to please.

I was here with my wife, Sister and Brother-In-Law for five nights, staying in the "Stable East" cottage. It was lovely. The ground floor comprised a double bedroom (en-suite), lounge, separate kitchen and hallway, while upstairs was another en-suite double room.We were self catering, so apart from an afternoon tea we didn't eat in the hotel at all.The grounds are beautiful with lots of very old trees and plenty of space to walk the dog. While we were there, the main hotel was struck by lightening which took out all power for about three hours (but that was while we were out and about). Unfortunately on our return, it had also damaged an electrical socket in our cottage. However the staff were on the ball as soon as they knew and the problem was fixed in no time. The staff were extremely friendly, our dog was made to feel welcome (including being given a bowl of water when we had afternoon tea in the hotel) all in all an excellent experience. If I have one criticism (and I am bring very "picky" when I say this), there was no full-length mirror in the cottage. But hey, we loved our stay and will certainly go back if we are up that way again.

Stayed here in the main hotel just one night - two adults and one child. Really comfortable rooms. Large luxurious bathroom with roll-top bath and separate shower. We didn't have dinner at the hotel as it sounded a bit formal for our young daughter but the hotel recommended an Inn in the next village and organized a taxi for us. The breakfasts and service were great. Would definitely come again and stay longer.

We had a wonderful stay at this very luxurious Georgian Hotel. The grounds were very impressive as we drove in, only to be matched by the beautiful drawing room and hallway. We were greeted by the very friendly staff and escorted up the beautiful staircase to our room which overlooked the front garden. The room was well appointed with plenty of drawers and hanging space, there was a modern ensuite and tea/coffee making facilities. The furniture in the bedroom was in keeping with the Georgian period. Everything was clean and very comfortable. The breakfast room was light and airy and looked out over the garden and the staff were very friendly and couldn't do enough to make our stay comfortable. The food was exceptionally good both at breakfast and dinner. We had a look at the beautiful ballroom which was in the centre of the house and it was very impressive. What a beautiful place to have a wedding! We spent five nights here and enjoyed our stay immensely. Would certainly recommend this hotel.

Even from first coming up the drive, this place is impressive. The grounds are beautiful & the Hall is very impressive.I was slightly disappointed on checkinh in to find I wasn't staying in the main hall, but a room in a holiday cottage slightly further down the drive (though it did have it's own car park so no need to humpf luggage). My room was on the bottom floor, but was quite large with a lovely 4 poster bed and nice bathroom (very good shower). There was some complimentary fudge (tasty!) and an info book that said wifi only available in the library at the hall.I walked up to get some food. I was only after a snack, so didn't use the restuarant, but did sit in the library and order a sandwich. When it came it was a triple deck, stuffed full sandwich with salad and vegetable crips, very tasty but was so large I couldn't finish it.When I got back to my room I discovered there was wifi there after all. The rural location meant it was lovely and quiet, though the people upstairs where banging about and it was making the plastic chandelier rattle somewhat.Every member of staff I met was lovely and very helpful, their service really shone through. Would definitely stay here if I'm in the area again, I'd love to explore the grounds!

All 3 courses were given a positive by vote by each of us and the completely cleared plates spoke for themselves. As ever, staff were very pleasant, attentive and helpful, without being intrusive. Being able to relax after lunch over coffee and tea in the attractive library was a lovely way to end our meal. Excellent value. We hope to return soon.

This is a lovely country house hotel in beautiful grounds. We were staying in the annexe in a room that had obviously been refurbished to a very high standard. The staff were very efficient and welcoming. The food served in the most attractive dining room was delicious . The breakfast was one of the best we have ever had. We were pleasantly surprised by this lovely place. We wished we could have stayed longer but it was just an overnight stay. As a birthday treat my husband took me to Eshott Hall in Morpeth. We arrived at 4pm and were shown to the Peacock room. The room was bright and airy and held a certain charm. The bathroom was clean & spacious with a large bath and equally large shower cubicle. The view from the two sash windows were of the beautifully kept grounds. Our stay was enhanced by staff, who were courteous, knowledgable & helpful, nothing was too much trouble. The highlight of the visit had to be the food! Our evening meal was an absolute delight, reminding us of Masterchef in its creativity and presentation. My dessert of 'tasting of lemon & passion fruit' was a taste sensation! Definitely the best dessert I've ever had. We were asked to treat the hotel as a home and use the library and lounge areas to relax in as we pleased. A relaxing break in a beautiful part of the country. We will definitely return.

When booking our meal using a living social voucher I spoke to a gentleman who was very sharp. I was told he was in the middle of something on the computer and he would have to ring me back. He did just that but continued with an attitude, like my call was an inconvenience to him. I'm almost certain we were greeted by the same man when we arrived and we were told that we weren't booked in at all even though I had received confirmation. We were seated anyway, not in the main hall but in a side room where it looked like all of the "voucher people" were taken. The waitresses were mostly attentive and very pleasant but we were a little forgotten about when the larger parties came in, seeking their attention when we had been waiting a while for dessert menu, the bill and more drinks. The place lacked atmosphere with no music either in our room. The food was mostly very good, salmon and beef were fantastic, as was dessert. Only criticisms would be the coriander on both starters was randomly placed with ham terrine and goats cheese... It just doesn't work. The Yorkshire pudding was doughy and cold. Prices charged do not fit with the quality of the place.... Much nicer places available locally. We really wanted to like the place but very disappointed.

When we arrived at this lovely country house we were very pleased with both the hotel, the grounds and our room which wanted for nothing. The food is of an exceptionally high standard and the staff cannot do enough for you. On the second day we met with disappointment as the general manager informed us that (as they were very busy that evening with two functions) the Bistro menu mentioned on the website would not be available. That left us a problem as we did not want a big meal on the second night. We, instead, had to eat out before returning to the hotel that evening. I did mention the 24 hr room service and said that we would be happy with that but the manager said that he could not promise when that we be possible as they were so busy! Amazed, as their mission statement states that they will do whatever it takes to make their guests happy. We feel we must mention again the staff at this hotel as they are probably the best we have come across anywhere. We stayed in The Peacock room which was lovely but it is quieter at the front of the hotel as, at the back, you can hear the noise from the kitchen.

I visited Eshott Hall last year with a friend on an Itison deal.We had an absolutely delicious meal, well cooked fine dining.I thought I would take my husband for a meal, as he is recovering from an op, and is on crutches, a nice treat ? Well, I thought it would be.But sadly no.Our starters were acceptable, a small potion of smoked salmon with some capers and an acidic citrus tasting sauce, but I like small starters so that I can enjoy the main course. The choice of mains was breast of chicken with mash, fish and chips, "Eshott burger " steak pie, or gnocchi .I chose the " Eshott burger". what a let down , two frozen beef burgers sandwiched together with soggy melted cheese, frozen chips and chutney.I managed to eat some of one of the burgers, my husband had steak pie, inedible pastry disc and ok meat , undercooked vegetables and potatoes.Desserts , well we picked what they couldn't ruin, namely ice cream and cheese which were fine. What a huge disappointment, after I was looking forward to a repeat performance of the excellent lunch we were served last summer. The waitresses were excellent, they were clearly embarrassed by the poor standards offered, and tried to offer something else. But it was too late to salvage the experience.I would like to know if this is the standard of food offered to ALL customers, or only to the " deals". Would management please care to comment ??I'm guessing not.Repeat business will certainly suffer. The best thing about Eshott Hall is the extremely professional and helpful, friendly waitresses.Thank goodness for them !

What a beautiful place this is, during our visit to the hotel for friends Wedding unfortunately didn't stay there but the bide and Groom did and said it is well priced and the rooms beautifully decorated. This is a very nice getaway. The staff made us most welcome and kept to their claim of being dog friendly. Keen to ensure we enjoyed our stay they offered advice on good walks and places of interest. This place was only let down by the overall standard of their food. We did have lunch, soup and sandwiches which was excellent, but the dinner for myself and my brother in law was pretty bland, although both my wife and sister enjoyed theirs, the goats cheese and beetroot being very tasty as was the gnocchi. Would we pay a return visit? Yes and hope that the food reaches the highs that the staff and premises did

The country location, lovely old house and staff are great but then there is the lack of quality or even reasonable care relating to the cooking of the Christmas meal was astounding. It defies belief that a person referred to as a 'chef' could produce a meal that was so neglected, with vegetables being wizened, some burnt black end to end and sprouts so over cooked they oozed water when prodded. The vegetables were suitably complimented by beef that was so tough it was inedible. Ultimately the meal was topped off by an appropriately disappointing 'sticky' Christmas pudding which had all the hallmarks of being a budget purchase as opposed to made on the premises. On complaint compensation was duly offered but I have to say not equivalent to the loss of a good festive meal with friends. One last snippet, there were only six people dining, so not even an excuse for being busy. All in all very disappointing.

I’m so sad to see this lovely place closed. It had great staff and atmosphere and a fantastically good smoked haddock chowder. Our introduction to this country pub was to a spacious, comfortable, immaculately clean bedroom, with stunning views of the fells. Next dinner and cooking of Michelin quality. A highlight was the scallop with belly pork, a brilliant dish. Next morning breakfast, again flawless in every respect from the service to the produce. Any prospective dining pub owner/chef should come here to see how it's done.

My partner & I came here on Sunday for a spot of lunch we both had Fish & Chips ( I had salad with mine instead of chips) I have to say the fish was amazing I would say 100 times better than you would get at a fish shop. The batter was so light & crispy and the fish tasted so good. The staff made us feel so welcome happy smiling faces and we did not have to wait long before our food came I would whole heartily recommend plants plus for lunch
