A really disappointing Sunday brunch! . Speed of service: awful! Waited over an hour from walking in to being served brunch - it wasn’t that busy! Could’ve harvested the food quicker myself 🫠 . Menu: good but so poorly executed during our visit: • Chorizo and halloumi hash bowl: some nice flavours, however the potatoes - which are the main component of the dish - were cold. • Huevos Rancheros: Chorizo burnt to within an inch of its life. Made worse by the fact it was a £3 add on. A decent chef should be able to bring all elements of a dish together at the same time . Staff: friendly . Decor: chintzy - not in a good way for our taste . Cleanliness: dirty. Toilets were appalling

I had been hankering after a good veggie breakfast while I was staying in Newcastle and Ernest's certainly fits the bill. We had the plant based breakfast with: hummus, cauliflower, spinach, potatoes, fakey bacon, beans, mushrooms, toast and added an egg and some halloumi. Well stuffed and all washed down with a ginger, lime and soda drink. Excellent start to the day and to explore the Biscuit Factory Art Gallery afterwards.

I’ve walked past here loads and finally stopped in as part of a group mid sunday morning. It’s got a lovely vibe very unique and friendly we were sitting out the back in a light filled room however this got progressively warmer as the time passed to almost greenhouse temperatures so I’m hoping in the summer months there are windows to open. Food wise I have to say I wasn’t that impressed. I got the halloumi hash bowl. It seemed to have the smallest egg possible, barely any hollandaise, skimped on the spinach and was very heavy on the potatoes. Something the 5 other people in the group who got the bowls mentioned. It was like having a bowl of roasties for brunch. For £12 I was hoping for better and have a feeling this place trades on its vibe a little. Having said that I’d be happy to go back try more of the menu, take a seat outside and people watch.

I came here with my friend today for brunch & the coffees weren’t the best we’ve had. We also waited nearly an hour for our food just for it to be stone cold so we sent it back a got it re made - the food didn’t have much taste to it what so ever. All I could taste was pure salt. (we ordered the chorizo & halloumi hash bowls which was £14!). We made friends with the people sat next to us who arrived just after we sat down & they waited the same amount of time for their food and they said it was cold too. (They got the full English breakfasts). We did complain about it all & we ended up getting 50% off our bill without an apology & I personally don’t think it was worth paying for any of it. Overall, Im disappointed as the pub in general looks nice and welcoming but I wouldn’t come here again.

I came here with a friend for brunch and we had booked a table for 11:30 and were seated pretty quickly which was great. We ordered 2 lattes which took 20/30 minutes to come and ordered 2 chorizo and halloumi hash bowls which we had to wait over an hour for and only received after we went and asked where they were! They finally got brought over and they were cold so we then had to complain and ask for them to be remade and wait some more! The food wasn’t great as the halloumi was overly salty and you barely got any hollandaise sauce. We did get offered 50% off on our food but we still thought this was a bit expensive for what we ate and our experience. The food portions are a good size if you do enjoy what you’ve ordered though :) Really disappointing because the cafe itself is really cute and welcoming situated in a really nice area too :(. Whilst I’m sure it may be because it was quite busy, for us and our visit we did not receive good service and overall unsatisfied with our visit.

Turned up at lunchtime and were sat in a room which had several young families present so it was quite noisy! Our order was taken promptly however after 40 minutes there was no signs of the food (drinks came a lot sooner) and as I am diabetic I needed feeding urgently so we had to explain and ask how much longer we’d have to wait, the food came shortly afterwards - coincidence maybe or had we just jogged their memory? When it came I’m pleased to say it was very tasty, Turkish eggs were delicious however the sausage sandwich was not very big, the menu did not give much information about portion size so I had finished my sandwich well before my friends. So overall not the best place to get fast food if you’re in a hurry perhaps the take-away -“Ernie’s” may be a better choice!

I’ve just eaten it and it is seriously one of the best flippin salads I’ve had in a long long time. Salad on a snowy day may not sound appealing - but this one is unbelievable. U hummed and ha-ed before buying because it felt a bit expensive if I could make lunch at home. It’s not. It’s a bargain - have left half of my “small” salad for later. Dont hesitate. TLDR Have the kebab, get cocktails, skip the cheeseboard and men make sure to use accessible toilet. Nice place, Lovely service. Had the cheeseboard and some bread. So, I see you Ernest, I see what you and a thousand other indipendant, hip, selfie friendly bars / restaurants are doing. The onis felt more on pretty food than it did on familiar food. We ordered cheese and crackers to experience exactly that, what we got was a melody of unfamiliar tastes and slightly disjointed placements. Ordered portion of bread, it was toast, it had a ramakin too small to dip with. Just to get this straight, the food is good, the quality, the obvious "artisanal" nature of it all was lovely, but nothing you wouldn't expect from a hip place in the Ousborne. Why did I get hardened seed thins rather than crackers? Why was there nuts in a pool of syrup too sticky to pick up and too small to get with a fork ? Why was there a "relish" that tasted about three steps from a burger sauce and ten away from some nice chutneys? Why was the hummus used as a frame for black sesame seeds ? It all felt a little bit too focused on what it looks like for Instagram. Again, not bad food by any stretch, but if you go, get the kebab and not the cheeseboard, it ain't what you want. Mens toilets are a bit naff too, sinks so small you can't wash hands without touching the bottom of the sink in a room that smells like urine, lovely when you are eating finger food. Cocktails were AMAZING. Food 6/10 Drinks 8/10 Ambience 7/10

A very cool independent cafe. We visited as a table of five and they were accommodating to our last minute booking request change. A few points Food - I had the Turkish eggs, these were very tasty but there was a slight imbalance of the yoghurt (a little too much) and for me the sourdough it came on could have done with being half the thickness - simply because it was hard to get through. Drinks - there’s a great selection, they bring water to the table when you sit down and the fresh juices are very tasty, along with the coffees with non-dairy options Atmosphere - it has a great vibe, the decor is very nice, it’s very comfortable and well set up. Service - absolutely couldn’t fault it. Parking - it’s quite busy to get parked nearby so plan ahead. I’d recommend booking too. All in all, a great spot which is very accommodating and would recommend. The menu has a brilliant selection catering for a lot of dietary requirements too.

I was always a fan of Ernest before I found out i'm Coeliac as they're dog friendly and have good vegetarian options. However i wouldn't recommend them if you have allergies/dietary requirements as their staff definitely need better training in that. I called ahead before going there to ask if they can cater for coeliacs and was told that they can. When I got there I told them I'm coeliac and asked what I can order on the menu and was told most things can be made gluten free. I asked if I can order the vegan breakfast, the server checked with the kitchen and came back and said it's fine except the sausages. I double checked if the vegan bacon is ok as it's normally not, and also that everything is prepared separately from gluten containing food, and they said 'yes'. When the meal came i checked again with the server if it's gluten free and they said 'yes'. However, I recognised the brand of bacon and happen to know that I can't eat that one, and told them it has gluten in it. The server said it doesn't so I asked him to check the packaging again and he went to the kitchen and when he returned said that it has a 'may contain gluten' warning on it and asked 'how bad the allergy is'. He then also told me that they can't guarantee anything anyway as there's gluten in the kitchen. Unfortunately you can't tell coeliacs you can cater for them if you're not controlling for cross contamination in the kitchen. We left and ate elsewhere. They did at least apologise and didn't charge us for the drinks.

After hearing my friend rave and this cafe and their eggs Benedict I was expecting a great meal. First of all when we walked in we were ignored by the staff who were walking past us, not one of them acknowledged us or said we’ll just be a minute. Nothing. When they eventually sat us down our order was taken quite quickly and the 2 girls who served us were very nice. I ordered my eggs Benedict. They arrived with the tiniest portion of hollandaise sauce, it was hardly worth putting it on, the bacon was over cooked and too touch to cut. The eggs weren’t runny at all. I don’t know why I didn’t send it all back but I was starving and it was edible-just. What a total disappointment. The whole place needs a good clean, I don’t know why everywhere else in the world except the UK is perfectly clean, British cafes floors etc always seem to be covered in a layer of grime. The chair I sat on was a cracked imitation leather seat that should be thrown in the bin. Total disappointment

£14 breakfast was not value for money! And the Pepsi I had with it was rank!

I have been going to Ernest since it opened and always had a great time, but in the last few years they seem to have lost a lot of their unique vibe and care only about profit. The hash bowls have halved in size but doubled in cost (you essentially pay £14 for a bowl of pasta potatoes) , whereas the full English ‘local hero’ breakfast is £14 and you get ONE of everything, that’s one egg, one sausage etc. Massive p*as take. Service slow and the menu is all over the place. Very disheartening at a time where there’s a cost of living crisis and you waste your one monthly budgeted meal out on small portions and slow service! I hope they can find their feet again as it was once the best brunch spot in town! Still have the best bloody Mary’s mind!!!!

Loved my veg hash bowl, but Turkish eggs on toast were way too spicy. Great brunch place and their lemonades are sooooo good, especially the ginger beer mint one! Also they are dog friendly.

came here for a few drinks on a saturday evening, had a very fun time and the bouncer was lovely letting us in when it was a little busy! no idea how much the drinks were as we’d had far too many at this point but definitely good spot for a boogie.
