American diner with all the trimmings... Good people with good food..

This is the only place to go for breakfast in Whitby [I know that Emma's do offer other food and drinks and I assume that they will be as fabulous as their breakfasts, but we have only been in for breakfast]. All of the ingredients were first class and they were cooked to perfection. Can't fault it at all. The Diner is 50's American diner themed and is just fabulous, all very high class. Even the waitresses are dressed in 1950's dresses. To top this Emma's dress the cafe for the seasonal events, we have been in at Halloween and Yule and the diner has been decked out in seasonal costume. A place to go, everything is first class. Go on treat yourself, go to Emma's Diner at Whitby.

We visit Emma's every time we stay in Whitby, we visited twice. Love the atmosphere and the music you always receive a warm welcome and we had pick of the tables. I chose the Saucy Wrap with sweet potato fries, it was very tasty but also filling, unfortunately the sweet potato fries were only lukewarm but I'm not one to complain & didn't want a delay on my food! Second visit, lucky to find it quiet early on a Friday evening I enjoyed for 4 southern fried chicken pieces with fries and they were delicious. No doubt we will be back.

I visited with my wife tonight as part of our trip away as we have previously visited several times. I have to say that unfortunately the quality of the service and food has not lived up to our memory. Firstly the prices seem to have risen quite alot since our last visit but that in itself wouldn't be a problem if the food quality was high enough to justify this. The fries that came with both meals were greasy however the burger and hotdog were nice. Afterwards we decided to try dessert and I was drawn to the "homemade pancakes". I'm afraid these for over £10 were very disappointing. I doubt they were homemade at all as all were very uniform and they were also burnt and chewy making them difficult to eat with the ice cream spoon I was given. The servers seemed pre occupied even though it was quite quiet and although dressed for the theme neither seemed very happy to be there. And to top it all off we were charged a 10% service charge on the bill itself with no apparent option. Again this would be fine if the service was worth this. Incredibly disappointed and I'm afraid I will no longer be recommending Emma's as I have previously.

Enjoyable 1950s styled American diner that is slightly incongruous in the middle of Whitby. They had made an amazing effort for Halloween with decorations and staff dressed up. Good quality cooked breakfasts with generous portions and reasonable prices.

Wasent allowed in as they refused entry as we had a child's guide dog.very upsetting. 8 year old blind girl in tears.feeling it was her fault because of her condition. Bloody fuming

Excellent American themed Diner in the heart of Whitby. The servings are generous and very tasty. The staff are attentive and professional. The surroundings are superb. If you like a tastefully done themed restaurant, for mains or just dessert, this should be at the top of your list.

Meal was massive!! Had the sausage breakfast wrap and the one half would have been enough!! Very tasty. Loved the milk cow too. Really made my morning lol

This place is a must if you want the American diner experience without the transatlantic flight. Portion sizes are huge, staff are incredible, and the prices are perfect. This is now on our must list of dinner places during our regular week holidays to Whitby. Update. Review reduced based on tonight's experience. Showed to a table. 20 minutes later still not been asked what we wanted to drink. Just walked past several times. Yes it was busy, but the family who were shown a table at the same time ordered, and received their desserts. Unfortunately will not return.

The food at Emma's Diner was really really good portion's were decent size place itself is very clean and tidy, can not fault the food the staff were very helpful and polite, only downside was service was very slow waited almost 20 mins for drinks and nobody really comes back to see if you need anything else, after we had finished we waited so long for someone to come so we could get our bill we ended up looking for a staff member and request for the bill. Negative aside defo worth it, anyone wanting an American style burger this is the place.

if I could give six stars I would. Stopped in on the off chance as we were passing. Lovely setting, lots of fun vibe to it. Wait staff were bustling, it was pretty busy. The pancakes were fantastic. Really nice and a huge portion for the price (very reasonable I thought). All the folks who seated/served us were great. 100% will call again when I am in the area.

Love the 50s styled diner. Called for lunch . 1pm Friday wasn't too busy so no issues with availability of a table. Drinks menu and Food menu are themed/named round 50s songs etc. Loved the Hound Dog cocktail. Staff friendly and helpful.

Enjoyable 50s / 60s diner. Large portions and attentive service. They are licenced too! We walked in with no booking and managed to get a table.

Popped into this little diner again, first time this year and as always was met by a friendly smile from the polite and professional staff, requested something that wasn’t strictly on the menu and the chef went out of their way to make it for me, it was served quickly hot and tasted fantastic, never had bad food. Hats off to Emma and the team excellent job, well worth popping in for good food and an American diner atmosphere.

abs shocking from min we walked in first we as a couple like to sit on table with plenty of room we was put on tiny table when I asked for the only other table that was free a booth for was told no yet as soon as we sat down a couple was seated down on the same one I requested second we ordered our food came covered in salt chips onion rings when we asked the waitress to change them as my partner can't eat salt we were told there food is always served like that (not true been comin here 6 yrs never had salt on my fries or onion rings before) third we asked for another beer for my partner as he had fu wished his first still had. mnt relieved it by time we had finished our food ... hence we got the bill and left the service the American diner atmosphere totally totally gone BEWARE IF UNLESS U WANT FOOD SMOOTHERED IN SALT AND NO ATMOSPHERE DONT GO HERE

We went for lunch and the children’s meals were delicious they said! We have Southern fried chicken with fries and choice of two dips!Fabulous food! We would definitely go again ! Music great and staff lovely !

Usually go here when in Whitby. Great choice of food and drink- can be a little pricey, but a good variety of food and you do get your money's worth. Drinks menu as well - both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. Great customer service- can't fault them. 50s and 60s american music often playing. It is only a small place though- so get in while you can.

Had a lovely pancake breakfast here. This place chose a theme and then just absolutely went for it. Brilliant 1950s American diner vibe and great food.

Ate here on a Sunday afternoon, the food was lovely, the shakes were amazing and thw price was sensible.

If you want a retro American diner, this is for you. Food really good, fresh, tasty, with generous portions.

Such an amazing place, the food was incredible, the music fantastic & the young girls serving us were so kind & couldn't do enough for us. It was full when we got our table , staff are pleasant to talk to , service was a bit slow , 20 mins for drinks to come out and an hour for our 2 burgers . Food was hot and tasty tho Bit on the expensive side

The food and drinks are amazing, but the long wait was rather unexpected. It took 45 minutes for our drinks to be served and an hour for food. The atmosphere is pleasant, some of the waitresses are also nice. However, when I was being served my food, a waitress dropped the plate on my hand with the hot meal. An acknowledgement would've been nice, or an apology. But she seemed new, so it may have just been nerves. All in all, I have mixed views about this place.

Food took a long time to arrive and one dish was cold, couldn't eat it..sent it back..ordered one of the burgers instead which was mediocre at best. We loved this place but there has been changes to the food/menu since it opened again this year. Expensive for what it is. Great staff, friendly and welcoming...shame the food was disappointing.

Overall, the place is nice, but not suitable for children. We had a small, hungry child and we were served later than the couple who came in after us. The waiting time for a burger and fries was 70 minutes? Even if it was somehow really delicious, it would be understandable. Prices do not match the quality.

Good family friendly menu (wraps, chicken, chips, burgers) in red& white 1950s diner theme. Staff dressed in the fashions and juke box playing. Loosing a star as the floor could do with a mop & clean at table reset.

Visited today for breakfast. Service with a smile and quick . Can not fault the food really well cooked breakfast all good produce and well presented . Hubby had huge pancakes which he also enjoyed . Lovely crockery and good coffees. Only let down table hadn’t been wiped and the toilet needs attention ( back of loo). Easy fix though. Definitely recomend the food

My wife and I went to Emma's leading up to the Goth Weekend last month for a late afternoon meal. The diner is 50s themed, and a splash of good old Elvis. We both had hot dogs which were very delicious and filling. The milkshakes were bigger than expected and very tasty, it took both of us to finish off just one! However, the fries were honestly some of the best tasting fries we have ever had. Not too salty, crispy, they were absolutely wonderful. We will definitely be going again upon our return to Whitby in the future.

Really welcoming place, delicious food, mahoosive portions, excellent service. The interior looks really good too. They were able to cater for my lactose issues by changing the recipe for the southern fried chicken, which was really appreciated. The chicken was deliciously moist, and the piri piri sauce in particular was really good. The waitresses were dressed in 1950s dresses which my 7 year old daughter was very impressed with, and a little bit in awe of! Really enjoyed our meal here.

Wow! What can I say! Worth every single penny and it wasn't expensive at all. Huge portions of excellent quality food, cocktails with a Halloween twist but named after some classic rock n roll songs! Absolutely loved it! It was just a plus that we were there just before Halloween! Highly recommend to anybody.

Me and the wife had breakfast and it was excellent quality sausage bacon not the usual rubbish you get at other cafes lovely bread too also you get a proper cup of tea with a big tea pot , the place looks lovely the only thing I didn't like was I found the music a bit loud and could have done playing a bit more mellow music in a morning lol ( I must be getting old )

Wasn't sure what to expect when we randomly called in, but we had a wonderful experience. My halloumi burger was fabulous, the atmosphere was fantastic and the staff were lovely 😍

My first time in a 50s themed diner and I enjoyed it. The aesthetic is carried all the way through from the decor to the music playing on the jukebox and the waitresses wearing vintage dresses. The breakfasts were very good and the ice cream milkshakes delicious. Would recommend and hope to visit again.

Ate here many times over a number of years and the food and service has always been great from the ladies working there.

Me and my wife really enjoyed it the food and the service was excellent we would definitely recommend it and would definitely go back again when we go back to Whitby.

Fantastical diner with a cross between British and American culture. Amazing food and shakes. A real treat for breakfast and dinner.

Huge portions - too much alot of the time. Friendly staff and a cool 50s-70s diner vibe. My only quibbles would be, the 2 times I was in recently, the place was packed and the first time it took ages to receive the food (food was lovely though) and the second time there were some really rowdy guys in. My other quibble would be that it's impossible to book a table. When we were there a queue had built up of other people looking for a table. There was hand sanitizer at the door, but other Covid precautions were not observed, with several patrons constantly coughing quite severely. The staff also didn't wear facemasks, nor did the other patrons' when moving around or leaving the premises. If you're in Whitby, I'd definitely recommend this place, but be wary the portion sizes are huge. You can also expect a fun, nostalgic atmosphere and friendly, attentive staff. UPDATE: In Whitby today and went to the diner and it was closed on Thursday 14th September 2023, when it states open on here. Not too pleased, as we were looking forward to it despite the much higher food prices.

Went here tonight with my wife and daughter. Had a great night. Food was lovely and portions were huge. Staff really friendly. Nice feel to the restaurant and kept clean. 2 for £10 cocktails were really good value. Made up for a disappointing Sunday lunch earlier in the day from a different place which shall remain nameless.
