This lovely little cafe, with associated retro shop, is just off the high street. You go down a short flight of stairs into a world of tea, coffee, lunch and cakes. It's warm and cosy; there is a range of teas and coffees (I had a Yorkshire rhubarb flavoured tea), and a nice selection of cakes (mine was a gluten and dairy free chocolate peanut butter slice which was wonderful. They also do lunches. Highly recommended.

This is a really nice coffee place, with welcoming owner. I had an hour to fill in when my train was cancelled, wandered around and saw this cafe which I had not tried before. Comfortable and colourful surroundings. I will recommend to my friends and will be back!

My four-year-old daughter was attracted by the pumpkins 🎃 on display on tables outside the cafe. That was the first of the attractions to this gem of a cafe in Scarborough town centre. It is a shame there aren’t more eateries like this idiosyncratic little cafe. At the moment it is decorated Halloween but beyond that the nooks and crannies are filled with all manner of objects; games and books you can read/play(with). My daughter loved it. I had spicy avocado on toast. It was delicious. The hot chocolate was real. And really good. Service with a smile and a genuine bit of conversation. We will certainly go back. I like the look of the apple and rhubarb crumble. Next time.

Looking for somewhere new to try for lunch, we happened to see a board on the corner of York place advertising Emjays coffee house. So pleased we decided to give it a go, going down the steps we were greeted by a very inviting and quirky decor and friendly owner. My friend and I were both tempted by the homemade tomato soup, which was delicious. There are also a good selection of gluten free desserts to be tempted by, I opted for homemade apple crumble and my friend went for two of the tray bakes! Thoroughly enjoyed our visit and will definitely be going again. Give it it a try, you won't be disappointed!

We found the staff abit scruffy and offhand, the lady who made the food was lovely and presentation of the food was excellent. Would go again to give it a second chance!

What an interesting find. Full of character and nice people. A very hidden little gem for those who don’t want the normal boring type of cafe.

What a gem! The menu is simple, interesting and well considered. We had the daal stew which was delicious.;We were spoilt for choice with other offerings on the menu so will definitely go back. They make their own bread, scones and croissant too. Very friendly for humans and furry friends, I highly recommend.

My wife and I visited after seeing a sign scribbled on a chalk board during the day. It's an innovative little pop-up based in the vaults under Scarborough Market Hall, where there are craft and vintage shops by day. Manned by owner Paul who is very knowledgeable and chatty, we were treated to some superbly kept wines in a quietly informal atmosphere. It's a far cry from the hoi-polloi and bustle of Scarborough drinking holes, and one which must be prized. Top work, we'll be back.
