Oh dear. Just been in Bury today only to find Emerson's closed. Could this be a sign of the times! It's a pity because we have always had good food and service in the past but if this is due to retirement we wish you all the best.

What a welcoming atmosphere! Being gluten intollerant, it's handy to have egg and bacon. Also, I only drink boiled water which I wasn't charged for. Leanne brought me a cup and saucer and a pot of water. Much appreciated, (Obviously, I took this into account with my tip). Food and service high quality and affordable.

I came here last Friday with my partner and grandparents. It was very busy inside so we assumed it must be a good place to go... well you know what they say about assuming! There was only one four person table, which hadn't been cleaned, so we sat down and straight away a waitress came over and said she'd clean the table. What she really meant was she'd give it two sprays from a disinfectant bottle and then wipe less than half of it. I had to use hand wipes from my bag to clean the rest. She took our drink orders - one sparkling water, one cappuccino, one tea and one hot chocolate. It took 15 minutes for our drinks to arrive - the cappuccino was literally a normal coffee with some chocolate dusted over the top, the hot chocolate was cold and the tea was nowhere to be seen. We got the attention of another waitress - a really lovely red haired girl - when we explained that the hot chocolate was cold and asked about the tea she straight away replaced the hot chocolate and asked our original waitress to bring over the pot of tea. We then waited another 5 minutes and asked a different waitress ( I counted 4 in total working on the very small dining floor) and she said to our original waitress " You forgot the tea" to which she responded with a shrug. Very professional. I was later informed that she was hungover and didn't feel very well...diddums... The tea was then brought over but was very weak as no teabag was left in it - my Granddad asked if he could have another tea bag and the red haired waitress again apologized and insisted she brought him a fresh pot, which she did straight away. We ordered food which in all fairness was nice, 2 brunches and 2 soups. When my Granddad paid the bill he told the red haired waitress that if it wasn't for her it would look as though nobody would get served. We'd ended up speaking to other customers sat around us who all had a similar experience and expressed how 3/4 girls working that day were very slow and lazy with a poor attitude ( agreed!) We found out that the one waitress who could do her job was actually there on her day off - well thank god she was as she was doing the work for everyone that afternoon! Despite the food being nice - it wasn't nice enough to warrant the staffs work ethic that day and would definitely not return here again.

We called yesterday for lunch . When we arrived the place was over half full and seemed very popular . The efficient staff promptly cleared us a table and made us feel welcome . Our order was taken promptly and efficiently and read back to us to confirm it before being placed . Although we waited a while for our food , this was understandable as we could see it was busy . All the staff was more than happy to serve the customers upon request and cleared dirty tables rapidly . The young man serving was very professional and over hearing him serve other tables he had excellent customer service skills , a true credit to the place . We was dining when the man who has commented below was complaining , which everyone has their right to an opinion , but like I said our order was read back and checked , so general practice would say theirs was too ? . The man was speaking very loudly in order for everyone in the restaurant to hear his opinion , which was in my opinion unfair on the young staff dealing with his abrupt attitude . The table of 3 had 2 courses each and drinks for free ! Because the order was incorrect on one meal , to which they admitted fault ?. Also if he has visited before ,as he states it is unusual service ! Think a 1 star rating after a free meal , and after publicly embarrassing the young staff is a bit harsh . All the other customers seemed happy , and was praising the staff on their calm and collective manner at dealing with the rude man once he had made his dramatic exit. I personally will visit Again ! Good food , served hot and well presented . Good atmosphere , great local eatery !

We have visited this bistro on many occasions and have found the food and service to be excellent. Not this time however. Two soups and sandwiches were ordered along with a Breakfast Rarebit. We also ordered drinks and scones for later. The scones came first however, we put the aside untill after our mains. The soups came and were good along with the sandwiches, the Rarebit however came just as a welsh rarebit, no Bacon, eggs, mushrooms etc. I questioned this to a young member of staff he said a mistake was made which is fair enough, But he then said I would have to wait until other orders were completed before the Breakfast rarebit would be finished, the other option was to have a couple of eggs made and added to my Rarebit at no extra cost. I agreed to this as I did not want to cause bother. I ate one piece of Rarebit whilst waiting waiting for the eggs. FIFTEEN minutes later I asked a waitress where are my eggs, she went to find out. They are being cooked now was the reply. Ten minutes later I asked again and gave my plate for them to be put onto, a couple of minutes my meal arrived back with ONE egg on top, I said to the waitress "only one egg? Are you on trip advisor". A few minutes later the manager who had been unaware of what had happened came to our table. She was very apologetic and informed that our meals were free. I questioned the policy of correcting wrong orders at the back of the food queue, they should be the first concern, she agreed. Anyhow a mistake can happen anywhere its how its dealt with afterwards that makes something special. We have had a dozen or more five star visits over the years I'm afraid its only one this time.

I note I am not alone in expectations of a Large (full) English Breakfast... I don't expect a defib to need to be on standby but I literally left the bistro and went for a pasty. How is one sausage and one egg a large breakfast? Would a standard one get you less than one? It was £7 so not what I'd consider value. The quality didn't justify the price either; it was all right but nothing special - go to Bennetts butchers for a proper sausage and bacon butty for less than half the price. What I found particularly galling was the £2.39 for a Yazoo milkshake served in a glass... that's just a rip off. My partner ordered the home made pie, which was fine, but we were surprised to get so few overdone chips and salad when veg. was the accompaniment according to the menu, and we had to ask and wait for the gravy that should have arrived with it. I was asked how I found it and when I pulled my face and said 'all right', no follow-up question was asked. If you're not interested in the answer, don't ask the question. Minor point also: wooden chairs uncomfortable. Staff were fine.

Visited here on a Saturday morning with my girlfriend whilst shopping in Bury. We had the misfortune of having the waitress without the brain cell - although think they all possibly shared one. I ordered a breakfast, with a coffee and my girlfriend had a light snack. We waited an hour for our food which wasn't what I ordered when it finally arrived, before watching the waiter clean the table beside me by simply brushing crumbs off with his hand, promptly marking it reserved. Asked him about the wait on the order and he supposedly checked before standing and texting behind the counter appearing completely uninterested. Paid and explained the cock up before being overcharged by the smirking server for average food. Didn't appear at all bothered by how chuffed off we were with a fixed gazed on the 20 I reluctantly gave her!.

After a full English you should be feeling like your life is in danger, not that you are on a diet. Pleasant place, nice staff, but for 7 pounds you should get more than 1 small sausage, 1 piece of black pudding, 1 slice of toast, a couple of mushrooms and a fried egg and a few beans, (especially after a long wait)

Myself and my mother came a few Saturdays back for some lunch, unfortunately at the time they were very full and we couldn't be seated. There was a young girl at the door seating people, she was very nice with us and explained there was likely to be a wait but offered to reserve us a table for 20 minutes time and took our name. We came back a little later but she had still kept the table reserved for us which was kind as they was still busy. We sat up near the top against the bar and a different young girl served us. She was polite and got us drinks. The food took a little while to come but we expected this with it being busy. It wasn't cold so there was no fuss with the wait and it tasted delicious. We where very well looked after, would recommend even when busy as they will try their best to get you a seat!

We were impressed when we walked in by the atmosphere and decor. There are set breakfast menus plus items that can be added. Strangely all breakfasts came with a choice of juice rather than the tea or coffee you would expect with an English breakfast. When we asked if we could have tea instead of the juice and pay the extra (about 10 pence) we were told no which was very disappointing and petty. Once again there was one item on the breakfast that my mother didn't like so we asked if that could be left off and something else added instead. After checking we were told that it could be done and there wouldn't be an extra charge - it had never crossed my mind that there would be!! Such a shame as the young lad who served us was delightful and the food was freshly made, hot and delicious. When there are so many eating establishments about it really doesn't pay not to accomodate the customer - where the items are available. Inflexibility is my pet hate and sadly for that reason I won't be back again
