Waited nearly 90minutes for our meals for only 1 meal out of 4 to be worth eating, katsu curry came out just warm and the hunters chick was like rubber could not cut through it with a knife, Apparently, no manager to deal with the complaint, we were not the only ones complaining. The food and service used to be great in this place but recently it has massively gone downhill.

We gave this a fair try over 5 nights,ok it was at peak times about 7-7.30,and queuing at service bar was always packed,10-15 minutes,we do not have an app or iPhone which I noticed is how most ordered. The bar staff were friendly and helpfull, remembering us after first visit, and securing a table for us on our other visits The staff could not clear tables quickly enough and glasses were left on tables for up to 25 minutes in some areas, the staff were always busy even bar staff cleared tables. We ate here each evening, steak night with wine and the wine was exceptional for the price,£10 bottle, steaks took some chewing, could have been better. The food is moderate to say the least, but the rooms and drinks made up for it.Especially the staff who gave us a welcome and service.

On my travels I popped here for a hearty breakfast. Food was amazing served hot and fast by a lovely Australian guy..who is very easy on the eyes..the atmosphere was lovely and homely with comfortable seating. Beautiful roaring fire going. The staff were lovely and very chatty not only about work but asking about my day and seeming genuinely interested in what I have to say. Easy access car park. Toilets were clean and tidy. Overall it was a very pleasant visit.. food was amazing and the Australian guys name is Brad, who has a girlfriend🙄

I contacted the wheatsheaf to book a table for 11 people to which they happily arranged, no deposit needed they even asked if we would like to pre order food to reduce our wait time but we didn’t take them up on this offer. On arrival all staff were very friendly and were happy for us all to order individually. The food came quicker than expected and all arrived at the same time which we were very grateful for. Range of drinks was perfect and could not fault the food at all! They also helped present a birthday cake we had arranged which was very nice, all round we had a great experience and are looking forward to returning.

After a couple of days in Scarborough we decided to visit our son who lives in Laceby Acres. At his suggestion we went to the Wheatsheaf for lunch. Although there was a large part who had ordered just before us our food arrived quickly. Pat and Gareth had the Sunday roast and I had the fish cakes. Everyone was pleased with their meals. They were excellent value and most enjoyable.

I spent the weekend with our son who lives in Laceby Acres. We had been to see the racing at Cadwell Park and decided to have a meal at the Wheatsheaf. They said we might have to wait for up to thirty minutes but it was less than half that. I had fish cakes which were excellent and my son had the bream which he said was delicious. Myself and four friends went for a meal on a Tuesday evening. There were not many diners so we expected good service. Our meals came at different times despite being ordered together. One meal was sent back as it was cold. Came back after too long in microwave and was dried up. A side dish was forgotten. Worst of all and highly dangerous, one person in our party had a serious dairy allergy. She gave the order and explained her allergy and the fact she used an epipen as allergy was serious. Her meal arrived with onion rings in batter on top of the chicken, a pot of coleslaw and a dressing on the salad!!!

Visited the wheatsheaf in grimsby today and was looking forward to enjoy a nice quiet meal with my friend, however this was not how it went. As I got to the bar I was greeted with "got any Id" not a nice welcome. My drink tasted like syrup and when I politley asked for it to be changed the woman didn't ask if I wanted to change my drink nor did she apologise. As I work in pub myself I know how customer service is extremely important. My plate has been sat infront of me for the past twenty minutes, and the waitress or manager has walked past serveral times and hasn't took our plates? its not exactly busy, I would appreciate service with a smile! I must admit that the gentleman at the bar was very polite and was able to tell me about the day time menu. id suggest training or employing more staff if they can't handle the pressure. I went here for my birthday last year and my parents steaks were burnt to a crisp rather than made well done, If I could Id attach a picture!Very dissapointing and I am not going to return!

We chose to visit the Wheatsheaf on what turned out to be a busy night for parties. Our food took over an hour and twenty mins to arrive despite prompting. The staff we spoke to were bordering on rude (but did seem very stressed). It was explained to us that we're 'issues' in the kitchen and that this wasn't our fault, but that our meal was ready to leave the litchen. A further 20 mins later, our meals did arrive. Reheated! What a shame as we usually enjoy this place. I can forgive a short wait (we we're told it'd be a 30 minute wait), but rudeness from staff is enough reason for me to avoid in future. Goodbye Wheatsheaf, and best of luck in not alienating more of your customers.

This family visit for our Son's 21st Birthday wasn't as good as expected. My Husband had the chicken which was way overcooked & dry. I had the chilli with home cooked tortilla chips & rice. The Chilli was barely warm, the tortilla chips were very thin and not really crispy. And the rice was a bit too undercooked. The portion sizes did not reflect the price. And £18 at the bar for 4 drinks was extortionate. Don't think i will be going back. The service however was very good.

I ordered Fish and chips the simplest menu item known to pubs my dining partner ordered the cheeseburger. Speaking from experience as a chef the price seemed fair until the food made an appearance, Instantly i didn't like the look of the food burger was dripping with grease, Batter on the fish was shown as being golden and crispy when it arrived it was brown and soggy! Chips were limp food was cold within minutes i suspect it was haphazardly reheated. Had to douse the meals in condiments just to make them edible....In short very dissapointed!

I´m a regular visitor to the Weatsheaf but just not sure about the food anymore. For the past few times I´ve been the quality has just declined. If it wasn´t for the cosy feel to the pub, I probably would stop going but I like that it´s quiet and I like the staff. Time before last my husband had the haddock and chips but the fish was defrosted and dry beyond so we got a refund on that one, my food was ok that time. Last time my starter of almond crusted brie was under cooked, cold and hard and tasted more like goats cheese than brie. I then had the salad with a very over cooked and dry piece of salmon. I think the chef has probably been replaced as in the past the food has always been fantastic. They need to review the quality of the cooking but the menu is great which offers a lot of different varieties.

I stumbled upon this pub and it looked inviting. Two bars stocked with some excellent micro brewery ales added to the impression that this was a good choice. The pub was quite busy though not crowded, but still good for a Wednesday evening. I ordered and sat and waited. As noted by many other reviewers, it was a fairly long wait and would have been much longer had I arrived any later - to be fair the gammon was cooked to perfection but had too much fat on it. My overall impression is this has the potential to be a great pub but needs to sharpen up its act, particularly with waiting times. It is just as well that I wasn't in any hurry!

My partner and I had lunch in the Wheatsheaf today, and weren't impressed at all; despite the restaurant not being at all busy we waited nearly an hour for our food, which, when it arrived, was disappointing. His gammon steak and chips was certainly not hot, and my salad, which promised all sorts of delights on the menu, was mainly lettuce with only very small amounts of the other ingredients. My partner had to ask twice for mustard, and the salt cellar was empty. We didn't complain as we were so hungry by the time our food arrived we'd have eaten anything, but we certainly won't be going to the Wheatsheaf again; with the prices charged we expected better.

We did think the first occasion was a one off but no, exactly the same wait time on the next visit. Also the food, when it arrived seemed as though it had been waiting around a while. It looks as though there is not enought staff, either that or they want you placing more orders at the bar. It wasn't just us waiting, other tables had to wait over an hour for their food as well. The place isn't as busy as it once was so it looks like the drop in standards is losing customers

Oh dear judging by some of the reviews our local is having a bit of a blip?! Glad to report that we recently visited in a group of 8 and the wine, service and food all good - staff had very kindly decorated the table which was unexpected. We are regulars here as it is a short stagger home. We always find the staff friendly, the drinks great (good wine list, almost always served at the right temp...) the food is good pub grub standard - sometimes there can be a long wait for food but we are always warned about this when ordering. It's not fine dining it is pub food but we have very seldom had cause to complain having visited dozens of times.

Visited this "fairly" local for 2 reasons, had obtained vouchers via Ember web site and to check it out as a possible venue for dining when having guests visiting. Before ordering food chose to order drinks using a previously mentioned voucher - IMMEDIATELY challenged with the comment we are not Ember Inns we are Ember Pub & Dining. Numerous times I pointed out the conditions of use for the voucher which included this establishment., After prolonged dialogue the employee decided to question the manager. After 10 minutes she returned and without comment placed (unduly heavily) the requested drink on the bar top without further comment. I later returned to the bar to place a food order and as part payment proffered a further voucher. This was met with "at least you've got that one right" and the change from the accompanying currency given with the voucher was forcibly put into my hand. When the meals were eventually served at our table that were placed "rather heavily" and accompanied with a rather derisory "enjoy your meal" from a hastily departing employee. The meals were at best average and the so called chunky chips were at best warm semi raw lumps of potato. These premises were part of the original concept of Ember Pub & Dining which on launch adopted the "no children" rule. Unfortunately this has long since gone/relaxed and we had to endure the visual and very vocal presence of very young children who were obviously ignored by their so called guardians who seemed to prefer the consumption of alcoholic beverages to vigilant control of their charges - perhaps any of these were expressing the possibility of future employment by Ember (Mitchell & Butler) in the future. Certainly during our recent experience most of the staff lacked maturity in their customer service ability. To both locals of, and visitors to the town AVOID if you are in search of value for money tasty meals in a quiet environment served by staff who appear to be of similar educational intelligence as so many of those that they appear to welcome.

This is my local pub as i live 10 minutes away. I have been coming here for the past ten years. it has transformed itself into a gastro pub in the last two years or so, although it is only really above average micro-meals. The atmosphere in the pub is nice. I have always had good service. My son and i recently had a three course meal here from the set menu. It was good pub food and the portions were generous, so much so that my son could not finish his rich brownie dessert. It was reasonably busy when we were there but the staff seemed to be coping. There was a bit of a wait between starter and main course, but as the portions were good sized this was not really an issue.

The salmon was tasty and the vegetables were well cooked and nicely presented. We shared a chocolate brownie with ice cream, again very good. Although it was quite busy the service was ok and the waitress very pleasant. Having read some of the previous reviews I can only think that the staff in the kitchen may have changed. The place can be extremely busy at the weekend and is perhaps overwhelmed by sheer numbers.

After two very dissapointing visits (on one occasion my chicken was completely raw and then came back so overcooked that I could'nt put my knife through it) we have decided never to step back in the place. We thought we would give it one more try as it is our local. My family waited over 2 hours for our meals. After an hour of waiting the waitress told my brother they no longer had any fish pie so he reordered a curry to be told after nearly another hour they had also run out of that. When we eventually got served all our meals came at different times so some people finished their meal before they all arrived. (We would normally all start at the same time but the meals were getting cold). I had Ceaser salad and it was inedible as the bacon was raw and the dressing was too thick and just put on in big blobs. The steak pies were cold and one of our group did'nt even get a meal at all. I would like to point out that the waitress was not at fault. She was very polite and tried her best and was actually in tears as she felt so embarassed. She said the manager would come to see us but he or she did'nt bother.Up until a couple of years ago we would come often for a meal and had no complaints what so ever. But we have noticed a decline in the hygiene also.It is such a shame that a lovely pub in such a great position is going down hill so quickly. Lets hope that one day a better manager will come in and take it back to what it was before its too late.

My husband and I have visited this pub many times as we find it meets our needs, we usually seek a quiet place. There are various seating choices, from hard chair to soft armchair, depending on what you prefer. In the Winter there is normally a fire to warm the cockles! The food is fine, although the pub has changed hands a few times. Evenings can be a tad busy, & not always quiet, but if you enjoy nightlife then this is for you. Summer nights can be enjoyed outside under the parasols/garden furniture. The surroundings of the pub are busy with traffic, but it has never spoilt our enjoyment.

On almost every visit to this establishment there have been issues, to the point where we now refuse to go if we are invited! We have often popped in here for a quick drink or two on a Sunday afternoon, it being a short walk from my house. When we have eaten, the food has been fine and the pub stocks real ale (a plus point in my book). However, this is where any positives stop! Many of the staff are unprofessional and unhelpful and the srvice is more often than not terrible. On one visit we ordered a filter coffee and a pint of real ale. On taking my pint to our table we waited for my partner's coffee, and waited, and waited, and waited. I was two thirds through my pint when my partner asked at the bar what had happened to her coffee. They had forgotten about it! Again, we sat and waited. She asked again, and waited, and waited, until I finished my pint. The coffee had still not arrived. We left the premises! On another visit there was a real ale festival in the pub (my reason for going). Upon ordering a pint I enquired at the bar as to which ales they had on offer. The lady informed me that they only had the one ale to sample (the one which I had ordered). I remarked how a choice of one ale doesn't equate to a real ale festival only to be told very snottily by the woman "well that's how we do it here!" That's only two of the problems we've encountered there. Hence, we haven't been back since, and certainly won't be doing so again!

We go quite often to this pub but after Friday 01/02/13 we'll definitely not go again. Twice in the last 6months my husband has had 2 meals, 1 raw chicken the other over cooked steak, (he'd asked for med. to rare.) We complained to the bar staff on both occasions but should have directed it to the manager. However, Friday night topped it all. The pub was cold and we were informed the fire was broken. Told our meal would be half an hour so we still went ahead and ordered. 45 mins later spoke to the waitress and was told it hadn't even been started. They were short staffed in the kitchen, so why didn't they take a waitress of the floor to help out. The staff are pretty good generally but on this night they outnumbered the customers. We did get two free drinks for the waiting though. Not good enough. Bad show Wheatsheaf.

Lovely pub , but that's where it ends , food is of the microwave variety , beer is over priced & staff are rude . It's a shame because it could be a great pub .

Had reservations about going here since I had been once before and the food was poor, however my friend really wanted to go here since it was close by to him and that he did not have a lot of time so I agreed. Ordered a steak sandwich & fries, steak arrived cold totally inedible sent it back and meal was replaced it took about 20 minutes for it to come, which meant our quick meal turned into a substantial longer encounter then expected, due to the fact we had to eat our meals at different times.

I've frequented the pub since I was old enough to drink and seen it in it's many guises, it has always been our families local and I have very fond memories of it. Since it became an ember inn I have always been impressed with the service, drink and food options. We no longer live locally so agreed to meet some old friends in there for lunch today, the food was not only uninspiring but tasteless and dull. the 'slaw' served with lunch consisted of 5 day old dried carrot and cabbage and was an utter disgraceA very disappointing experience and the food is terrible

This has been our local for 17 years, we are regular visitors probably because its just up the road. We've had one really good meals there but also some very disappointing ones too! I recently ordered a meal that had been really good the first time I had it but on 2nd visit it was not very nice at all. The vegetables were not savoy cabbage as stated but, rather disappointingly, your bog standard peas. They did change them for an alternative but when the meal came back the veg were hot but the rest was cold.

The wheatsheaf is our local but we realised we hadn't visited in months. Me, my partner and my folks went on a Thursday evening. i ordered a special at £9.50, the men ordered burgers and my mum just had a starter. The food took an hour to come but we were told this when ordering. The atmosphere was good lots of people, we found out later why.so the meals came and the burgers looked great, presented really modern on wooden boards. My meal was pathetic. the smallest portion of potato, chicken and green beans i had ever seen. before the waitress left i did mention this to her and she did agree and asked for some more sides for me. i was then relatively happy once i had to get over the embarrassment of asking for more food with my meal.Once we finished i asked everyone what they thought and my dad who ordered the lamb burger said he couldnt actually taste any lamb!?! The others didn't seem blown away, Im afraid. We were just at the end of our meal when the quiz man came round (We didn't realise they still did a quiz, then i realise why it was so busy, people come for the quiz still, not the food!We won't be rushing back which, is a shame as we live so close.

Having previously posted stating it is good pub grub we take it back - we have had one of the worst meals ever here. On a positive note the staff are lovely. The atmosphere is good. The drinks are usually ok apart from a warm Sauvignon. But the food tonight was vile. I don't really know where to start but ok here goes - medium well steak dripping in blood, chicken stuffed with asparagus and lemon actually served with paxo stuffing, forgottern veg and potatoes, pork with 'roasted apple' served with 2 halfs of raw apple with the cores still in........ sticky toffee pudding with split sauce, just disgusting food. The irony is the week before staff tripped over themselves to serve us and the food was great - and coincidently they gave us an online survey form to fill in. I would give it a wide birth and that's from 2 people who have been going in for years, or should I say Had been going in for years.

Waited ages for our meals and not happy with food on arrival. I opted to pay more for the 'normal' selection and my mother had the 'special' which was far better then my meal. Staff where very good though.

I have been here a few times over the years and whilst the decor and food has improved it is better known for the happy go lucky atmosphere. It doesn't seem to take the food side properly it's sort of an add on to going there to see friends ect not for specifically going there to eat as it is nothing special and even portion wise it isn't value really. It is not cheap enough to reflect on all the things mentioned. If they give you little portions of nothing special and sort of as an extra to your night not a speciality then the price should reflect the same and it does not. They should either make the food better or drop the prices and I think dropping the prices would be more achievable for them. I would not return.

Good pub food at an excellent price - wines very good value. As another writer puts it a 10 minute stagger home, very useful. For those interested this Hotel used to be managed by Patricia Hodge's parents!I am surprised that your name is Ember Pub as they have more than one in the area. Suggest you change the heading to Wheatsheaf.

We recently visited the Wheatsheaf for my son's 21st birthday and despite there being 16 of us, the service was extremely good and the food excellent. We booked in advance and there was waitress service at the table which meant we were able to order both the food & numerous drinks without having to go to the bar. We will certainly be back.

First time we have been here and we have been very impressed. It's extremely good value for money and served nice hot food by pleasant staff. I too don't understand the negative comments as it's a pub that serves food, which infact is surprisingly good.Hubby had the shepherds pie which was delicious and I had the bean burger which was also very good. It looks like it's popular too as at 12:50pm all the tables were occupied. We will definitely be back.

We regularly eat here - it's a 10 minute stagger home. I'm a bit surprised by some of the comments - firstly, it is a pub not a restaurant and you are getting pub grub. if you want a fine dining experience then this is not the right place, try The Beeches or Petit Delight! It's good value and does a good range of a variety of food at reasonable prices with a good selection of wines - they do a lovely Malbec for £11.50 for example. I have once sent a meal back and have dined here many times and, yes, sometimes the veggies are overcooked. It is mainly good and great value for money. My daughter is a vegetarian and loves the goats chees tart and chestnut and red onion cheesecakes. I've had great salmon, burgers and vegetarian options and the puddings are yummy. They do a 2 for £9.50 menu which offers good choices and value. It was refurbished a couple of years back and is warm, cosy and inviting.

Have always liked the Wheatsheaf. Warm and comfortable and friendly staff. However since it changed into more of a restaurant last year it is not a change for the better.I don't have a large appetite but it is the only place I go to eat where I have to eat again when I get home! Portions are child size!Last time I had salmon which was very nice but served with 6 green beans and two potatos. Also would not let us book for 8 because "Fridays are busy" and then contradicted this by saying they had a large party booked in....

Hadnt been in here for about ten years, since it was our local college lunchtime haunt, and it's definitely changed since then. Popped in for lunch on a weekday. Nice decor, welcoming atmosphere, not too busy but not empty. I had a steak and onion ciabatta sandwich and chips, my friend had fish and chips. Sandwich was nice, chips very good, all presented on a wooden board which was a bit random. Friend enjoyed the fish. Reasonably priced. Quite varied menu for all tastes. Friendly staff. Would go again and try an evening meal.

I am a bit puzzled by this restaurant. It promotes itself as a "dining pub", and the business clearly centres around food, but I found the food I had here average at best and inedible at worst.I ate here on three occasions during a long weekend visiting my partner who was working in Grimsby for a few weeks. My first impression of the pub was that it looked really nice, and I was confident that it would be a reasonable place to eat as my local pub is from the same chain and I eat there regularly and have never had any complaints with the food. My first impression of the menu however was that it is incredibly limited. Basically, if you don't like big chunks of meat, you are going to struggle, particularly on the evening menu.To be fair to the Wheatsheaf, I popped in for lunch over the weekend and had the cheese and bacon burger which was ok. The burger was quite good and the chunky chips were big and juicy, although I found the presentation (on a wooden chopping board) a bit contrived and impractical. Unfortunately my experience went downhill from here. The following evening we came in for dinner, and both ordered the fillet steak from the specials, which came with potato dauphinoise, tenderstem greens and peppercorn sauce. When the food came it was quite apparent that the greens had been cooked sometime earlier and had been resting for some time as they had a slightly wilted look, and the potato dauphinoise looked good but was bland. The steaks looked really good, with mine rare and my partner's medium rare. However once we started to eat it was very obvious that the meat was not properly seasoned and relied entirely on the peppercorn sauce for flavour, and my partner's also turned out to have a seam of gristle which was a surprise from what had looked like a good fillet steak. On the whole the meal was underwhelming, but it was very busy and we decided to give it the benefit of the doubt (primarily due to the lack of alternatives in the area) and came back a couple of nights later. Big mistake. My partner played it safe and went for the gammon, which was acceptable, although calling it a "steak" is rather generous. I was seduced by the specials board, and chose the chicken with goats cheese and sweet potato, again with tenderstem greens and potato dauphinoise. When my food arrived there was a really appetising tangy smell from the goats cheese, but that was pretty much the end of the good news. Somehow, the goats cheese and sweet potato dressing managed to smell really tasty but in the mouth was a tasteless mush, the greens had been overcooked and left to wither in a way that I haven't seen since having schooldinners in the 80s, and the chicken under the cheese and sweet potato was a zombie-like shade of grey. The dauphinoise was the one high point as it was well seasoned and creamy, but unfortunately this was not enough to recover an otherwise terrible meal. Personally, if I was a chef I would have been ashamed to send this particular plateful out. When we had finished eating (for me this was after about 3 minutes) the waiter came to clear the table, and despite being faced with a virtually untouched plate STILL came out with the robotic empty enquiry "so was everything ok with your meal?", clearly expecting the standard British stiff upper lip. When I expressed my dissatisfaction he then tried to recover the situation by offering me a complimentary drink, which was ridiculous. Why would I want another alcoholic drink on an empty stomach? The only positive thing I can say about this transaction is that when I stated that my preferred solution was a refund for the meal this was delivered promptly and without a quibble.I have to say that my partner is staying nearby with a number of other contractors, and they eat here occasionally and seem reasonably satisfied; however I suspect this is largely because the available alternatives locally are so restricted that their expectations have been lowered accordingly. I personally thought that we were being held to ransom by a lack of other options and that the result was a lazy and badly executed menu, which is a shame for a nice looking bar. If I had to return to Grimsby then i would suggest that people should try the hotel a couple of doors along as this does not pretend to be a "dining experience" and for me was a lot more reliable and better value for money. If you do go to the Wheatsheaf, stick to a burger or even better, just have a drink.
