Came here last Sunday for Lunch. All four of us had the Sunday duo consisting of roast chicken, roast gammon and all the usual Sunday roast sides. The chicken was extremely dry due to being so overcooked and absolutely covered in salt. The gammon again was overcooked and tough. Gravy was powder/packet mix and not home made and also frozen roast potatoes. Once finished our plates remained on our table for a good ten minutes before being cleared. Two of the four desserts arrived and we were then told that one of the desserts ordered had sold out, surely they’d come and tell us this before serving any of them? Disappointing experience and won’t be returning.

Visited The Castle Gardens last Friday and had the Chargrilled Lamb Koftas, Grilled Fillets of Sea Bass with potatoes, king prawns, peas and hollandaise sauce, Mixed Grill (Rump steak, chargrilled chicken breast, gammon steak, pork sausages) and a Chocolate Orange Sponge Pudding. Me and my hubby thoroughly enjoyed everything we tried here from the hearty starter to the flavourful mains and scrummy pudding - a proper pub grub and a well deserved pint after a tiring work week.

My partner and I visited on a Friday and had a lovely lunch, staff very friendly and hard working. Great value for money. We would definitely be back. We did however have an issue with the parking, we have been a few times in the past and never had a problem but this time 2 weeks after our visit we got a Euro Car Parks parking fine. We were not aware that you have to register your vehicle on arrival. I called and spoke with a lovely lady who explained what we should have done and cancelled the fine for us. Great customer service, thank you Castle Gardens.

Yes it was the hottest day of the year yesterday and we were told it would be approximately an hour wait for food. We had drinks and waited. Unfortunately it was much longer. When the food arrived it was very poor. The mushroom starter was over cooked and dark brown . I have never ever seen a prawn cocktail in such a state. It was a bit of lettuce ‘thrown’ on a plate with a few prawns and sauce. A six year old child could have improved on the look of this. There wasn’t any ‘decoration’/extras eg. Lemon, slice tomato, no paprika. It did not look in any way appetising. The brown bread served without butter. Which we had to ask for that.Main course. The various burgers all had something missing. The barbecue sauce which is a paid for extra, (3 ordered) wasn’t given and had to again be requested. The bacon on some burgers was not cooked fully. One sauce served on the side of one of the burgers had a ring of clear looking ‘water’ around the edge. The chips were very dark. The veggie toad in the hole : all three sausages were very dark and over cooked, the Yorkshire pudding had a very hard edge which ‘shot’ all over when it eventually was cut. The kitchen need to clean/change the oil they are using when cooking. The meals when served had no thought whatsoever to presentation. We were a party of eight and every person left food on their plates. Covid can be blamed for some things as an excuse. Don’t try and say this is what caused all the issues I have highlighted. It’s basic cooking skills.I very much doubt we’ll return to eat there. I was treating my family to a meal and I feel upset at the cost for such very poor food.

I always look forward to coming to the Castle Gardens. It’s a fun place to be with plenty of seating in and outdoors. Food is excellent with a good variety of offerings to suit all tastes and the menu changes regularly. Being a real ale drinker, the choice of ales is always of importance to me. The Castle usually has a great selection on sale, although perhaps not quite as many as usual just now as we all emerge from a long COVID lockdown. I’ve been here with many friends and all have been impressed and been able to have something that they personally liked. The staff are great and really can’t do enough for you. I’d have no problem recommending this establishment to everyone.

I have just left the Castle Gardens with a couple of friends and will not be planning on going back anytime soon. I ordered a Tuna Mayo jacket potato.. what was supposed to be tuna Mayo looked like slop on top of the potato . Their was nothing inside the actual potato. It tasted absolutely disgusting, and their was no evidence of actual tuna. The potato alone was also very dry. Normally I would complain and ask for a full refund if food was this bad, however due to certain circumstances I hesitated.

Arrived to a full car park and full dining room (though social distancing was being observed). The only problem was there were not enough staff to cope with that volume of customers! 3 waitresses/hosts were running round like headless chickens! We duly ordered on the app only to find rump steaks had run out so we re-ordered. Finally the table next to ours "kicked off" when their STARTERS arrived after an hour and a quarter. At that point I decided to check what time our own order had gone in, only to find that my payment had been rejected and wasn't even being prepared. So, having waited just over an hour for a non existent meal and facing another extended wait, we left. Everyone there was pre booked so they knew how many diners they were expecting ... very poor management that more staff weren't available.

Very strict rules with Covid which are okay but when they affect your experience to an extent you don't enjoy visiting then it can't be good. We have visited other eating/drinking establishments in Poulton and its more a different experience with those, rather than a lesser experience at the Castle Gardens. We were placed at a table in a corner with no-one else in sight. Food was good, we placed a drinks order, but then had to wait ages before we could order another drink (advised drinks orders would be taken at the table), in the end when we did manage to grab someone we decided to pay the bill and leave.I do wish CG all the best during difficult Covid times but maybe look at what other establishments are doing to manage things.

Having been a regular for many years and accept the fact that the food standard and quality is hit and miss we booked on the governments eat out scheme in August we were not sure what to expect. On arrival we were met at the door and shown to our table and the one way system and food and drink ordering system, which entailed queuing up at the bar. I did seem to think that the Covid rules were to be served at the table and not at the bar. This resulted in people walking around and around the one way system, passing close to diners, and long queues at the bar which was quite quite unnerving. The venue was extremely busy and did not feel safe. The place was evidently understaffed and the staff that were there seemed so run off their feet and soo stressed. By the way, the food was good, but before visiting again, I will need more assurance that I am safe and that customers cannot just walk around everywhere.

Where should I start with this review, I'll start with the positives. The burger and chips was really nice and the 1 way system for the bar worked really well. That's all I have for the positives. Here we go with the negatives. I ordered at the bar and ordered the large 3 course children's menu sausage and mash twice. When they came they both only had 1 sausage on and 1 came with chips instead of mash. This was corrected but 3 of us had eaten half our meals before the 4th 1 came back correct. My burger was ordered without lettuce and tomato, it came without that but also no onion or sauce. Also the burgers come with a pot of sauce which only 1 of our 2 burgers ordered came with this. Then the children's puddings came which was apart of the 3 course children's menu. Only 1 arrived so I said to the waiter there should be 2. He told me he served me at the bar and I only ordered 1 which wasnt the case and i found that quite rude. He eventually came back with the second and said it was on the order the kitchen just gave it to him wrong. I felt this experience was 1 of the worst i have experienced especially when my 2 girls eat there mains and desserts at separate times and the waiter being rude. I cant see me ever going back here or recommending it to friends or family.

Booked a table in advance to take advantage of the government eat out to help scheme. We waited too long to be seated, too long for the food order to be taken and a ridiculous amount of time for the food to arrive. We were warned that there was up to an hour wait but we waited an hour and a half for food. There were not enough staff working to cope with the demand. Surely by using a booking system the pub knew how busy it would be? I don’t think allowing food orders from outside helped either. The pub was full of disgruntled customers who all waited an excessive amount of time for their food. The meal was fine once it arrived but the situation needs sorting out I’m afraid!!

After waiting 2 hours for mains (from arriving), the food was good. That is the only positive from our experience at Castle Gardens. The inattentive service, lack of updates on food delays (we were told there was an hour wait for food when we arrived), and the failure to quickly clear tables (or items dropped onto the floor) really made for a very disappointing experience. Not good for any visit, but a real fail for a special birthday meal. When you arrived there was a barcode on a table near the front door to scan and register your details but that appears to be the only Covid compliant activity. No staff wore masks (yes I know they don't have to legally, but this was a busy pub), menus were not disposable (and were well used), and condiments were not single use. Yes, they may have been wiped down, but these continual fails to follow basic Covid hygiene recommendations don't inspire confidence. I can understand why the staff didn't smile much - it is because they are massively understaffed. The Lady Manager was friendly and helpful, but when tables and the bar are stacking up with hundreds of glasses this is a clear sign that you need more staff. When diners left, tables were left uncleared for long periods and food or napkins dropped onto the floor were left. As the table was booked in advance, the venue knew how many people it was expecting, but clearly failed in serving these. Whilst the cost was heavily reduced (Eat Out Scheme), it still wasn't worth what we paid. No complaints about the food, but the delays and lack of care ruined the visit. Hopefully someone from Ember Inns reads this and addresses the staffing and Covid compliance issues. Both of these are simple fixes, but in this case are massive fails. Overall a very disappointing experience.

My third visit to the Castle Gardens and the first since the country has been turned upside down by a virus.I already know that the food is of a reasonable standard here, especially a roast lunch. But today's visit was marred by terrible service. I accept that the staff has the cope with a one-way system around the bar and they need to clean salt and pepper pots, sauce bottle etc between each use, but there is no excuse for lunch taking an hour to be brought to the table is unacceptable especially as the place was half empty. This was made even worse by the fact that many people who came in after us had their meals before us.We asked what was causing the delayed 4 times but really didn't feel that they cared less.Having to wait is unfortunate. Seeing others served before us is irritating. Receiving lack of customer service is however, unacceptable.Would I go again? Maybe. The beer and the food are generally ok. The problem is this.... there is a lot of choice for eateries in Cleveleys, Poulton (especially Poulton) and they are far, far better even if a little more expensive.Cheap and cheerful shouldn't be an excuse for low quality service, should it? You decide.

Wanted to try somewhere new to us for Sunday lunch and went here after a "word of mouth" recommendation, albeit with some trepidation having read some recent "iffy" reviews on here. Booked online. Very welcoming at the bar on arrival and shown to table. Not an extensive menu for the Sunday lunch 2 or 3 course package, but certainly enough for most tastes. Food ordered at the bar. Very good and well paced service throughout. Had a variety of starters, roasts and sweets between us - couldn't be faulted. Excellent value: 3 x 3-course meals plus tea/coffees and a round of drinks for £60. Good atmosphere - busy but not crowded - and a very pleasant experience all round. Will definitely revisit.

From the lunch menu the fish & chips, the gammon and the pork very acceptable but the two members of our party felt ‘robbed’ to find the batter in the fish fingers lacked any visible amount of fish. The chips & salad accompaniment was fine but it literally was a case of most of the expected fish absent. The place has so much going for it that it’s a shame this dish was so disappointing and no members of staff going around to ask about customers’ satisfaction. It looks like a case of complacency which is extremely sad. It’s usually a good venue but it’s in need to of a bit of a shake-up.

My guess is dried up as some of the pasta was hard around the edge suggesting too long in a oven. The other dish was steak and ale pie with mash and steamed veggies and gravy, the pie was nice but small dollop of mash and vegs on a plate double it's needed size. So no better than average. The staff were friendly and did ask if there were any allergy issues when ordering good which is no bad thing.

A couple of months ago we booked a family Christmas meal in the days before Christmas. It was a large group booking and we were expecting to be on the Festive Menu. we arrived to be directed to a table that had nothing, not even place settings and no hint of any festiveness. We queried it and were told that the management had recently changed and that they were not aware we had made such a large group booking for a Christmas meal. Seems to repeat the issue for another recent visitor of booking confusion. We were brought a large brown cardboard box of crackers, and were told to help ourselves, we also set the table ourselves and rearranged the tables too. Quite bizzare. The order was taken and the food duly arrived, albeit it missing a starter. In all, given they were apparently not expecting to do such a large group of Christmas meals it wasn't a bad effort. The veg, however, left a lot to be desired. Those with the Turkey roast were significantly overcooked where as the massive half a head of broccoli with the sea bass meals al dente at best! This is a place we have visited several times and is a pleasant location with friendly staff. It is also dog-friendly in part but needs to become a place where there is some real consistency in the food offering.

First time eating at castle gardens. Booked a table online although when we got there they had no record of this and said I should have rang them direct. Well how was I to know it didn’t go through when I got an email confirmation of my booking? So not a good start. They got us a table ready. Ordered a roast turkey and a roast beef dinner. And daughter had fish and chips from kids menu. Food took around 45 mins to arrive, we didn’t mind waiting as we assumed the food would be good and we were looking forward to it as we had seen good reviews. Food wasn’t very hot, didn’t come with gravy jug as stated on menu. Food didn’t have much gravy on so I had to go to the bar to ask for some gravy. The roast beef was nice, potatoes not nice at all, frozen ones which was disappointing, good job there was only 3 on each plate. Although for the price which was nearly £10 you would expect more than 3 roast potatoes. Parsnips were burnt. Yorkshire pudding not nice either but again it wasn’t home cooked. It was hard round them edges. Other roast dinner the same issue. Very unimpressed and very disappointed. I spoke to the manager and he was very nice and took the money for the roast dinners off of our bill. He did say we could have complimentary desserts but when we went to pay we were charged for these. We didn’t mind though as the desserts were nice and we didn’t pay for the dinners so that was fine. The price of the dinners aren’t reflected in the quality at all. It’s a shame cos it is a nice place. Unfortunately we won’t be back.

Both meals that we were served were not hot at all - they were only just warm. The order was also wrong on one of the meals. The jacket potato that was served later looked nice but unfortunately, once it was cut open it presented as it had been on a warmer for a significant time - very dry. You do get 'Sorry' from staff but that is all. This is such a shame - The Castle Gardens in our opinion used to serve great food once - used to have lovely raised puff pastry steak pies - they are certainly not like that anymore. Sadly, like most of the pubs in England, this is another pub that provides everything but home cooked food. Where to beging? With the dirty, sticky and greasy menus? Bad beginning! That already should give you an indication that tge food is going to be dreadful. And it was. A boring burguer, similar to those you find in a fast food place. A vegetatian wrap, with very little filling, the halloumi cheese could hardly be seen. Nothing special. And we had to go around trying to find a mayo container which was not empty. The place lacks of atmosphere.

My partner and i decided to go out to eat on the spur of the moment so we ended up here.must say the food was really good the barstaff were very friendly but the reason ive only given this pub 4stars is the girl that served us.she came to the table to bring are food and just said Steak(my partner had that)no smile no enjoy ur meal no smile no customer service whats so ever felt like she was doing us a favour.when we had finished eating she just came ove took the plates and didnt say a word.ive been a waitress not the best of jobs but then again I made alot of tips people need a bit of courtesy a bit of banter doesnt hurt u to smile.anyway rant over the place is lovely food was good just that little blip otherwise we enjoyed it.will we go again of course we will.

Loads of parking available onsite. Called in on a Tuesday evening, self seated, order at the bar. Typical ‘pub grub’ menu with choices for all. Our food arrived in good time, well presented and tasty. Staff were happy and friendly. Usual facilities onsite. ‘Average’ rating is a bit harsh but it is not ‘very good’.

We live very close to The Castle Gardens, we visited on Wednesday for a few drinks after going for a family meal out at another Restaurant. We had to wait over 15 minutes for our order to be taken, there were 3 people serving behind the bar and it was not very busy. The people working behind the bar were totally useless! We visited earlier on in the year and the exact same thing happen. If someone from The Castle Gardens reads this you need to employ a bar manager who knows how to run a bar efficiently and knows how to motivate their staff instead of chatting to drunk clients and leaving customers waiting with no drinks! Awful !!

We decided to try the food again as the last few times it was not great. Husband ordered fish and chips and my son had chicken nuggets and chips. I didn’t eat as I had already eaten. The food came my sons was what you would expect, you can’t really get nuggets wrong. Chips were not hot. My husbands fish was grey and just crumbled and tasted horrible. It felt like it was frozen, no taste. The lemon was burnt. Why would you cook the lemon? Sent it back and got a refund. Not much of an apology just £10 plonked on the table. Won’t be returning for food. A shame really as it is local and a really nice pub.

Went again in the hope the food had improved - and was to be disappointed. The Sunday Lunch was disappointing - the Potatoes were grey / black inside when cut open - really poor - will not be dining there again. This was a low key family quiet celebration with my family celebrating my 60th & up coming retirement. My overall rating is actually less than one - cannot be expected to give a decent rating - it was poor.

Visited castle gardens on Thursday 9th of May. The food was very good, well priced and presented well. The thing I was most impressed with was the staff. The girl that served me on the bar with the reddish tint to her hair and in plats was outstanding. Really lovely attitude, lovely smiley face and very helpful. The waitress was also really lovely and friendly, another really nice attitude. Great to see happy staff. Really enjoyed our night.

On the upside if you have an AA card you can get 20% off your total bill

first time eating at this pub, visited on a Saturday lunchtime and was fairly busy which I think is a good sign. Had the chicken tikka curry which was good for a non indian curry, tasty and filling. My partner had the ultimate burger which was huge, he said it was very nice and very filling. Pub itself was very clean and the décor is lovely - (time for the toilets to have a makeover though). My one negative and why I didn't give 5 stars is that the cutlery is in a box on the table and I found one in there with dried egg on. Overall very impressed and would come here again.

Great experience altogether! We loved our coffee, the food (halloumi wrap, brisket, smoked chicken club (great rolls!)). The only criticism came from our (picky) 8 year-old who found the ham on her kids box sandwich much too thickly sliced. Her loss of course, but maybe something to consider for other kids too.

Just visited this lovely looking pub for a bite to eat on our way through travelling home. We were greeted by the bar staff & ordered drinks. We took a seat & viewed the food menu. We both decided on the healthy option noodles with chicken which showed 600 calorie meal. We also ordered garlic ciabatta. The food arrived & very disappointed with what we saw. 2 bowls of greasy noodles sitting in an oily liquid! The ciabatta was cold & soggy. Such a shame as expected a great pub meal Needless to say we both left most of meal & left still hungry What a waste of money. We were asked if meal was okay to which we politely informed the waitress that it wasn’t great. Think the kitchen needs to up its game on food preparation.
