We’d visited P Howard’s former restaurant, The Square, and as soon as we realised he’s the owner of this restaurant, we made a booking, given the extraordinary meals we had at The Square in the past. This restaurant is just as good, if not better. Service is impeccable, staff is attentive and kind, the food is faultless, super tasty! You feel like you’re at someone’s living room, cosy ambience, a lovely and comfortable feel to it! We give it five stars! 🌟

My wife and I booked a 4-person table at Elystan Street with friends visiting us in London. I selected the place as I had read that it was run by the same managers/owners as Kitchen W8 that we enjoyed. Therefore, the disappointment was even bigger as the best way to characterise the dinner is a combination of the worst and the best. Some dishes were really excellent and supported the place's Michelin one star. Others - I'm thinking about the Cheese Soufflé that 3 of us chose - were barely edible as way too salty. That was also the case with one starter. We complained about this to the waiters - otherwise friendly and efficient - but to no avail. No form of compensation was offered for what was for most of us simply a bad experience. That's regrettable as the place is well located, nicely decorated, but currently does not live up to its Michelin star status.

The set lunch was delicious and excellent value. The customer service was exceptional from the friendly greeting when we walked through the door to being given a piece of the stunning 36 month aged Comté to take home after they heard that it was my absolute favourite cheese. We’ll certainly be booking a table for dinner soon.

A truly delightful spot right in South Kensington, staffed by truly wonderful people who seemed to both care and enjoy their jobs. We only went for a "dry January" 3 course set menu but it was incredibly reasonably priced at £35 a head for some stunning food. Highlights (as with most restaurants I go to ) were the incredible starters - Burford Brown egg and cauliflower, along with a delcious soup with feta. But it was the little things that really added up - repeat servings of wonderful sourdough bread, and 2 * amuse bouches (which is unheard of normally on a prix fixe set menu). Will return for "Six of the Best" on a special occasion

My cousin lives locally and booked a table for us for dinner as I was staying with her for the night. Unfortunately we were more then disappointed . This should be a first class restaurant and the prices should mirror this. The food was extremely average and we had to send the main course back as it was served on cold plates with the food being subsequently less than luke warm. It was served again at the right temperature . Dessert was presentedin very lax manner and not worth the price. The tired dried flower arrangements on the tables leave a lot to be desired in what should be one of London’s top restaurants . The staff were all excellent and very attentive but attention to detail has completely failed and needs to be addressed.

Sadly the lack of care taken over our dinner made for a disappointing evening. If with Christmas decorations along the window had been complimented by something seasonal to look at on the table rather than the sad dried flowers that had seen better days it might have started better. The sparkling water produced by the restaurant was flat and should have been noticed by the waiting staff as no bubbles appeared when pouring. No proper amuse bouche unless some taramasalata with olives and homemade crackers is what we should now expect from a Michelin * restaurant. The main course, delicious cod was spoiled by being served lukewarm on lukewarm plates - as I was not certain if this was intentional I decided to ask. Apologies were made as it should have been at 60 degrees and hot. The waiting staff knew when they held the plates that they were serving lukewarm food - clearly having been waiting to be collected from the kitchen. They started again with the cod which was ultimately served hot. The deserts chosen were rice pudding and a creme brûlée. Against expectations there was a dissonance in the portions - the rice pudding merely covered the base of a high sided cereal bowl and unexpectedly the creme brûlée was served on a large flat plate (with raised sides) and was a ladle full 'slopped' onto the plate overwhelmingly large for a full cream desert, with the finest of caramelised sugar basket decoration disproportionate to the portion of creme brûlée. What happened to baking in a ramekin dish and the smooth texture similar to yoghourt - rather than grainy as this was? I am a local resident and booked Elystan Street as an alternative to my usual go-to restaurant Daphne's. I was being treated to this dinner by my cousin so have come away very embarrassed. There was no recognition of the concerns we raised (we had given up by the time desert came!) a further blow to the consistent standards expected from the award of a Michelin * at which level vigilance is so important. I note from a review from 2022 that some of the points I raise here were also raised back then. I know how easy it is for restaurants to fail and it concerns me that without essential quality control we could be losing another.

I like the way there is a decent space between the tables and the staff are always very friendly and accommodating .

We had a family lunch here for a special occasion. My partner is gluten and dairy intolerant, and was also pregnant, which can cause some real issues in some restaurants. I let them know at the time of booking and when we arrived and got handed the menus, they had printed one off especially for her. Incredible. It made it so much easier and relaxing for everyone. We all went for a 3-course set lunch menu which at just under £40 is exceptional value. They also had 2015 Nyetimber blanc de blancs on the wine menu which was great to see. Service was attentive but not intrusive. The food was faultless (although this was somewhat expected knowing that Phil Howard is at the helm). I cannot recommend this place enough and it's perfect for pretty much any occasion.

Appetiser and dessert very good, but not exceptional. Two of three main course were far too salty, such that my wife couldn't finish it and did not enjoy it at all. Not only fish but gnocchi and rest of dish had far too much salt. No response from anyone when mentioned it to wait staff.

Our last meal in London was arguably, also the best. The decor is modern and minimalist. Chef Phil Howard and his staff put on a great meal for our group. His Chicken with morrell mushrooms was probably the best chicken dish I have had in years. Its a unique restaurant, for the following reasons: 1. Very good food, dishes which are not too small and neither too big, and memorably good dishes too. 2. No loud music. 3. Refined clientele - no uncouth, unmannered, ill-brought up "influencers". 4. Spaced out dining area, good sized tables 5. Simple but nonetheless a pretty restaurant. 6. Remarkably cheap for a Michelin restaurant Its suitable for casual dinner as well as dates. Its not fine dining, but a good restaurant for a quality, good value civilised dinner.

This was my first time trying Phil Howard's cooking and it was so good. The food was satisfying and presentation, not at all fussy. I also rather liked the dining room as the decor and colours had been thought out well. There was a choice between a 3-course à la carte or a 6-course tasting menu. We opted for the former. To begin, I ordered one of Phil Howard's signature dishes, strozzapreti. It was prepared with Australian black truffle. This was undoubtedly one of the best pasta dishes I have eaten. The pasta was cooked to a perfectly soft texture and the sauce it was served in was as umami-rich as a sauce could get. The truffle added an extra depth of flavour and a distinctive aroma. However, I did feel that £40 was too expensive for this starter. My main course of duck was also a real delight. Tender and succulent pieces of meat were served with an orange purée and cherries, adding some nice sweetness and acidity. A side dish of a salad accompanying either my or my mother's main course was just excellent. The fresh and crispy salad leaves and the tasty vinaigrette went together perfectly. It was so simple yet so delicious. My dessert named 'Milk many ways with gooseberry and elderflower' was very unique and nice. The creaminess of the milk and the refreshing element of the fruits balanced the dessert. While the dessert itself looked like one single dish, beneath the white foam were a couple of different mini preparations using the same ingredients. I thought this was really cool! Meeting and having a little talk with Phil Howard was also a pleasure. The only real thing I felt could have been better is if we had been given a little more explanation of the dishes. When receiving them, there was little or no explanation. Personally, I like a bit of talk regarding the preparation and 'behind the scenes' would I say! Nevertheless, this was a great meal with generally pretty reasonable prices, considering the location and food quality. I would happily return :)

Have eaten here previously and again, was not disappointed this time. Being Mrs Fussypants, I asked if my starter (courgettes dish) could be tweaked; yes it could, it was, and it was fabulous - packed full of flavour. The 3-course meal was fantastic value for money, service was attentive, polite and friendly. Food (cheese souffle, almond soup, sorbet and cheese) was perfect, portions more than satisfying. However, a point to be aware of - the wine list, while fabulous, gives prices per glass, and - very surprisingly - per carafe, rather than per bottle. We were obivious to this (after all, have never seen this particualr presentation in any restaurant we have eaten in, nor was this indicated anywhere) and of course, thought we had a bargain bottle of wine.... To be fair, when we asked about this upon receipt of the bill, the manager was understanding and dealt with it well and with good grace. Let's hope that clarity is provided either on the wine list or by the sommelier We will return!

A Sunny afternoon in Chelsea was the designated direction ..& 43 Elystan Street the elegant destination. We chose the 3course set menu & while not entirely without a little reservation as to the cooking , overall it was a lovely experience dining here . I did like the marvellous sourdough seemingly never unable to be exhausted by dedicated consumption, & liked the unhurried but carefully managed service.. I did NOT appreciate being slugged a so - called 15% service charge though … which ended up somewhat making the just under £40 set menu not worth the money finally expended.

Some ither diners initially but ut filled up over a couple if hours. Nice menu. We mixed up with some set lunch and some a mixture of a la carte. The mackerel starter was very popular. I had an a la carte main, the cheese souffle which was delicious. Well everything was delicious! Champagne and wine was great. My only criticism would be a choice of 3 desserts only. There seemed to be no a la carte alternative or at least this was not offered. The rhubarb sorbet was lovely though. A very enjoyable experience (but I was a guest!)

Agree with previous comments regarding service; no real personality or interest in guests. Added to the fact that there was no background music, the atmosphere was a bit quiet until the restaurant got busier. We weren’t offered any drinks when we arrived, just promptly presented...

Sad to say it is over two years since we were able to visit Elystan St, this time with friends who spend some of their time just opposite. The format at lunch has changed a little in that the lunch set menu is a cheaper...

Ordered 2 glasses of champagne. Starters arrived less than 3 mins afterwards. Had not even ordered any wine yet so had the starters with the aperitif whilst the wine list sat on the table, which felt rather odd. Burrata starter had barely any burrata. Pasta...

Went for lunch on our first visit to Elystan Street. Every aspect was first rate - food superb, service professional but warm and setting excellent.

The table was quite good (7/10), service was excellent (8/10). But for the price, the meal was only 5 or 6/10. No canapes or amuse bouche was offered, just a few olives and almonds. The cocktails (Negroni and Lemon Verbena Sour) were excellent. I’m very...

Although Michelin rated this is not a pretentious restaurant. From the moment you walk in you're greeted by friendly staff who go out of their way to anticipate your needs. My dinner partner suffers from Celiac disease so has to have gluten free food. Elystan...

Was invited here by a client as was ‘highly recommended’ to him. I cringed when I heard where we were going but thought worth another go. Sadly, as previous, staff and management still think of themselves as important; with overpriced, average food to boot. Even...

Absolutely delicious food and wonderful service. We came for a 3 course set menu lunch for 2 people (with wine pairings), and couldn’t have asked for a better experience. The staff (in particular Sarah, Alicja and Michal) were wonderful and so knowledgable about the food...

We know Phil Howard and have eaten before at the Square. First time at Elystan, and no surprise that it was an excellent evening - my wife's birthday. The décor and layout of the restaurant is warm and inviting, yet not over pretentious. And all...

The restaurant is hidden away in a residential area of South Kensington. We were welcomed by the really friendly and professional staff. The wine list was great but I found the menu a little light. This is probably due to Covid. We decided to go...
