This is a lovely cosy pub, food was excellent and service was fab. We will definitely be returning - hopefully sooner rather than later!

Best roast dinner I’ve had in ages not eaten there for a few years food was always good but now it’s even better and plenty of it

We had a side salad which was a good portion and my daughter loved it my Grandson had burger and chips and that was great. I had the Sunday roast with side of cauliflower cheese very well presented and absolutely lovely well. Well worth the money. Staff were attentive and polite. Will definitely go again and would highly recommend. Even sorted cushions for my daughter to make sure she was comfortable.

Haven’t been here for 45 years, still a friendly village pub, 3 of us all had different meals . Food was lovely, great value , varied menu . Friendly attentive staff , couldn’t ask for any more

Ample outside space for those with or without kids and a cosy atmosphere inside the pub. The beer garden having a nice fairly enclosed play area is great for families. The food, a simple jacket potato, was perfectly cooked and a huge portion! Friendly and helpful staff. All in all a really pleasant visit.

Don’t come here often enough considering it’s my local!! Really must come more often, poor show on my behalf…… Met up with friends for drinks and dinner, food was of a very high standard with massive portions. Really good chips!!

Cannot fault the Elwes. I’ve been booking our Christmas meal here for several years now and never have I made a mistake with the orders, but this year I did…. Not a problem as Ethan sorted everything without any fuss. And when a member of our group had a fall on their way out…Ethan to the rescue. We had a great time as always and I’m so pleased I was able to make a recommendation on another group that was taken up and they too had a great experience. The staff always try to do everything they can to ensure we have a great time. Well done guys!!!!!!

We had a large booking last night for my partners 40th! It was perfect from start to finish. Everything ordered was cooked perfectly by the chef. Presentation was beautiful, all party members were very happy! Can I borrow the Chef please? Haha. All waiting staff couldn’t have done enough to help us. Very attentive to everyone, friendly, polite and hard working. Thank you so much for making it so perfect. I couldn’t afford a proper party but this was definitely the next best thing and I’m very grateful.

Took our friends, to our local on a Saturday night and we had a fantastic night. All staff where really friendly and the food was brilliant. They even had some live music on which we sat and had another few drinks and listened to. Brilliant pub would highly recommend

Visited on a Saturday evening as there was live music from Enzo (local artist). Apparently Steve (the landlord) is away on holiday and boy it shows!!!! Posters in the toilets advertising Augusts music, food stopped early and the relief manager sat behind the bar on a stool drinking red wine whilst we the public wait for the one working member of staff gets around to us!!!!

Good selection of pizzas, burgers and traditional pub meals. Good quality. Large portions! We were a party of 6 on a Friday night, and we were all very happy with our meals.

Went in for a meal on a Monday night and bar person said, it’s a 45 minute wait to order and then 30 minutes for food. Said can I place an order now accepting the 75 minutes and she said no but to come back in 45 minutes. So you sit waiting for your 45 minutes to be up wondering how far down the queue you will be. The food is good here but the service and the manner in which you’re spoken to is disappointing.

We waited 1.5hrs for cold food and nachos that were burnt with no sour cream or anything! Absolutely terrible

I went there for lunch, my first trip of the year. I had fish and chips, and it was good. Fish was crispy and moist inside, and the chips was great. Totally enjoyable day out.

Fantastic food and lovely atmosphere. Even in the awful rain and wind the under cover area was warm and cosy, the blankets were fab to keep our legs warm. Great service and will definitely be back.

We went to the pub to celebrate my partners birthday. First trip to a pub in over a year. I ordered the NYC - it was so over cooked it was hard to cut. Burnt bacon and cheese. I told the waitress. The only reason I didn’t send it back was that we’d waited for more than 30 minutes for the food and I would have had to have eaten alone. Such a disappointment.

It is so good to find an independent pub- and here you get a friendly welcome and well cooked basic pub food- you certainly won't go hungry. There is a garden and outdoor area, great in these difficult times too. We aim to keep supporting our local businesses as much as we can.

Met a friend here for lunch with our small children. Refurb looks great very modern but still with that village pub feel. Lovely spacious outdoor area and play equipment for the children. Lunch menu great value and delicious. Will definitely return again.

Lovely afternoon in the spacious sunny garden with delicious food and a friendly atmosphere.The fish and chips were excellent,fresh crispy batter served with chips mushy peas and a fresh wedge of lemon . Gammon was huge and cooked just to my liking with chips, onion rings, pineapple or egg,coleslaw, peas, grilled tomato and mushrooms.The service quick and professional. All staff were following new guidelines and I saw the tables and chairs in the garden being cleaned thoroughly. We all felt very safe and relaxed and we will be returning very soon!

Great food newly refurbished which looks great & social distance guidelines in place would highly recommend this village pub friendly bar staff and waitresses great service all round

My family and myself have been visiting the Elwes for almost 2 years, the reason why we keep going back is because of the friendly atmosphere and the amazing food! Very reasonable prices too. Also a great place to book for small functions like birthdays. I would highly recomend anyone wanting to visit a nice country feel pub to go here. You will not be disappointed!Final mention about the Sunday roast dinners.. OMG amazing!!!

Another nice lunch today.This Pub deserves to be busier.The atmosphere is cosy the staff very attentive and friendly the meals are very reasonably priced"especially the two for £10 menu -Mon to Fri- and a decent portion too.

The atmosphere was very warm and staff welcoming although not many of them around. Did take a while to be served as like I said, staffing was a bit thin but it wasn't the end of the world and the service we received made up for the wait.Food great and cooked as requested although we had to have our second choices as they had run out of some items. Our waiter was fab ! Sorry forgot his name so can't give him a shout out.Overall good visit and would go back.

Sunday lunch for fourteen; 10 adults, 1 teenager- nearly adult and three children. All catered for admirably. A mixture of meals from Sunday roasts to the specials board and some special requests from the children. Excellent food, superbly presented and extremely generous portions. Our server was highly competent and very attentive, catering to our every need. Highly recommended.

20 of us went for a Christmas meal here today and have to say it was just wonderful. Food to die for and the girls that looked after us, including bar staff were so good. Half of us had never been to this pub before but make no mistake “we’ll be back”! Great menu and a far cry from so called pub grub.

Very disappointed with meal at this pub.Quite expensive compared to some other pubs so expected a good meal.Poor choice of meat dishes offered so turkey only option.No salt or pepper supplied until asked for. Soup very tasteless.Not offered coffee after the meal.Only saving grace was the girls serving who were very helpful.Will not be visiting again!

Ive visited this pub this evening for a xmas meal out with my yoga class. That in itself was a lovely thing to do but add to that a really superb meal and you have a great night out. My meal was beautiful, with creme brulee to die for. Ive never been to this pub before even though i've always lived in Northampton but rest assured I'll be back again. Also a special mention to the waitress with the lovely sunny smile who put up with our banter and kept her cool throughout.

Had a great lunch here. The Manhattan Burger deserves special mention. It was amazing. Service was brilliant and the local punters were good fun.Stayed on for a while and enjoyed the company and football. There was live music and children had a fancy dress competition. Nice to see a local pub so well supported.

I popped in here for a drink whilst out walking with the family. The land lady told us we would have to sit outside because we have children as the don't have a children's licence. Made to feel unwelcome.

Came here as we live locally and needed quick food. The Elwes is a friendly village pub, we have been before but only for Sunday lunch. I really fancied a plain chicken burger and was informed by the helpful young gentleman who was serving the restaurant that this would be no problem despite it not being specifically on the menu. Burgers were great, plenty of filling and tasty. Lovely old pub with atmosphere, they offer a tab or you can pay as you go.

My family are locals here and we meet up, friendly people and we have been back often, peaceful. Friendly locals very welcoming

Had Sunday lunch and it was amazing and very reasonably priced. Hot, very tasty food, great friendly service. I highly recommend but advise you to book as they assured me they can be very busy. Large portions but too full to sample their desserts but the choices were great.

New play area for kids is just amazing they loved it. Food great, lovely staff this is a real pub no plastic facades or microwaves. We had a really nice home cooked meal and it was good value too. This is one to return too!

We stopped for a drink with our daughter and dog. As dogs are not welcome anywhere but the garden we headed straight there. There were already two other families in the garden with kids and dogs, already with drinks. As soon as I walked into the garden one of the other customers in the garden started talking to me, checking our dog was friendly. We had not even sat down when three women came into the garden, presumably staff. One abruptly told everyone the garden was shut as it was dangerous because there was a play area being constructed. I hadn’t even noticed before then! Then the other two ladies made comments that that was why there was a bench there. Well someone else must have moved it because there was no bench blocking the garden when we arrived. I am sure they could have told everyone the area was out of use a bit more politely! But then, more shockingly, the abrupt women (who is the daughter) then stood outside slagging off the customers for letting their children even near the unfinished play area repeatedly stating “its f****** dangerous, I can’t believe people would let there kids up there” so everyone could hear. Yet one of the kids playing in the garden when we arrived was her own kid!!! A sign saying the garden was out of use and some kind of barrier like orange fencing would have been sensible, and perhaps don’t let your own kids play up there if the area is out of bounds!

Amazing - wonderful, traditional old pub - great atmosphere, wonderful staff and as for the food - exceptional: Really home cooked, individual menu - this isn't a chain pub and you'll really get that.

Visited again with 6 friends for lunch. Table reserved was ready for us, friendly warm welcome as always. Good food with all dishes served being correct, hot and tasty. Very reasonable prices too.

Myself and 3 friends visited this pub for the first time tonight to try the pub quiz out, we ordered a few drinks and a couple of deserts which I paid for at the bar and was served by a man, no problems. As we left and was getting into the car, a female staff member came out after us and instantly stated that we haven’t paid and we need to pay now. I explained I had already paid, and she was being very argumentative and aggressive telling us that we haven’t paid and she had just spoken to another staff member that agreed. “No you havent” “you need to pay” After maybe 6 times of us all explaining that we had paid and was served by a male member of staff she went back inside to double check. She then emerged and said “don’t worry all sorted” like she had done us a favour and not just stood there accusing us all and making us feel very embarrassed and targeted. She never even apologised for her rude abrupt accusational comments. This is a shame as we were very much looking forward to returning next Thursday for the pub quiz.

We visited the Elwes arms last Tuesday for lunch. It's a lovely old pub and serves proper pub food. It was warm and cosy and Julie the barmaid was very helpful and made us feel welcome. There was five of us for lunch and we didn't wait long before lunch was served. The food was great especially the puddings,I had the jam sponge and custard,the jam was home made and was delicious,also a very generous serving!! I found the prices very reasonable and will be definitely going back to the Elwes arms again!

Tried to pay for very very expensive pint of fosters (3.95) pint with card, only to be told that there is a £7 minimum ! So overcharging by at least 45p in comparison with local pub prices, AND THEN forcing a minimum payment. INCREDIBLE ARROGANCE. Asked to see manager but this person not apparently available. Every other outlet that I use will take contactless payments for even half a pint. I have therefore been forced into paying for a second pint that I did not want - local police take note, I will be going home over the limit due to this bizarre policy. The whole point of contactless cards is to eventually replace carrying cash. It appears that unless you a part of the clique in this institute that you will be treated badly.The almighty STEVE MARSH only wants your money. Please explain how much a contactless payment costs, if it is more than the 45p overcharge then this needs referring to the respective agency to deal with this bizarre policy which means that the staff is willing to ban you if you do not cooperate. This establishment is also well cold - it costs money. Bring your thermals.

Love this pub, hadn't visited before so thought we'd try it out in passing. The staff were attentive and food delicious. Felt comfortable here and Julie the bar maid was very accommodating! Will be returning.

Meal for three was really enjoyable. Nothing was too much trouble for them, considering the fussy order we gave to the Chef. Mushroom Costini absolutely amazing. Pate was lovely, steaks and gammon all cooked to perfection. Great service, great food. Thank-you.

2 Adults and 2 Children - Walked into pub and found our table, to be then ignored for 10 minutes. Requested menus and then sat for another 15 minutes with no one arriving to serve us. When trying to ask at the bar about service the barmaid was too busy chatting to regulars to even acknowledge us.

New menu but same great offers and prices, with awesome burgers. Shame about the selection of ales and beers on tap. But food is great!

Went for Sunday lunch with a buddy. Setting great, very friendly staff. Ordered the 2 meat Sunday roast which was plentiful and nice tender meat. Love the setting and atmosphere. Nice little find.

Choice of two roasts. (Or you could have a combination of both for an extra £1) Very generous portions. Four veg and roast potatoes plus two Yorkshire puddings. We used our (free) Elwes Gold Card and got two lovely desserts free. Can't fault it :)

Beer is varied and excellent Food is outstanding and great to entertain friends or grab a bite from the bar menus. Nice and cosy in the winter , cool and relaxed in the summer. Good sized car park too !

Great beer garden and welcoming cat to add, decent beers on the taps, atmosphere inside pretty decent as well, didn’t order food as only popped in for a drink, mind your head though if you’re on the tall side

This is a very lovely village pub to spend an evening out in. The food is excellent with a fantastic service too. The landlady who served us was very friendly. Worth a visit.

Staff very friendly this place has improved the barman was friendly and the girl serving us was also she was trying her best in fairness I had gammon which was a bit greesy which I didn't like but in fairness they said they would recook it another way

Had a lovely evening here catching up with family , had to sit inside as it was a hot evening and outside was full, surprise surprise inside was wonderfully cool . Never had to wait long to be served ,bar staff were very pleasant ,gorgeous real pub inside and out , didn’t eat there last night but saw the food being taken out and it looked really nice

I never review things like most people always happy to complain but never think to say well done. But this time I just had to say something about this little gem. Ive just gone on holiday to the USA and thought I’d right this review whilst contemplating our visit to the Elwes Arms the night before we left.

surprised at good reviews for this pub, we waited quite a long time for sunday roasts and the veg were soggy tinned carrots and a mush of broccoli and cauliflower. the peas were ok. from the menu it is clear that most of the food at this pub is frozen and reheated. a pleasant location just for a drink though.

Great food, friendly staff and large portions. Bar service was a little slow but will definetly return for a meal

What a lovely place this is, full of character and charm. Staff were lovely and friendly and really enjoyed spending an hour of my life here.

A friend advised this pub if we needed somewhere on the way back from Kettering, via m1 to Northampton . We booked a table for a Sunday lunch. The village is nice enough for a short walk round, the pub looks oldy worldy with low ceilings, wooden beams etc but they have a section of restaurant which looks decently renovated. The staff were really nice making an effort to get my wife an unusual soft drink they had but didn’t have readily stocked. The roast with all the trimmings was exactly what it said on the tin and my wife really enjoyed her pasta dish. There looked to be a nice terrace out the back and plenty of parking. It was quite nice seeing an outhouse that looked like it used to be an old black smiths. Oh and the prices were decent too. Would def go back again and good to have in the back pocket if we are round those parts again.

The Elwes Arms is becoming a bit of a local for us. Grear food and drink at affordable prices. I would highly recommend the homemade chilli, just delicious, and their wine selection isn't bad either 😉

Being the central point of a village, this welcoming pub and restaurant has friendly locals, good food and of course a weekly pub quiz!! Shame no dogs allowed but still has good ale on tap and good lunch offers during the week

We came last month for a Sunday roast and thoroughly enjoyed it, so returned on a Saturday night with friends for a meal. We ordered off the main menu ( not the Christmas menu) Everybody was extremely happy with their meals, the Gammon was beautiful...

Came to this venue after reading the reviews provided by trip advisor.. the food was tasty and the staff were welcoming.. the venue was your traditional style country pub, quaint and out of the hussle and bustle of central town, word of warning though the ceilings are quite low so people above 6 foot watch out other than that no qualms..

Popped by for a spot of lunch and we were very impressed. The Guinness was good and the food was fantastic. Lovely pub and very well priced. Will definitely pop back!

Cosy and comfortable, maybe tables a little too close and easy to eavesdrop conversations around you but service was excellent. Classic pub meals at 2 for a tenner. A bargain! Not a lot of choice for beer on draft but what was available was of good quality.

Great family run local pub, good outside seating area, lovely Sunday roasts and great lunch menu with good offers. The only downside is that dogs are not allowed anywhere inside the pub/bar and not allowed even in the outside seating area that has heaters (for a village pub it's a shame with so many dog owners)

A last minute decision to go out for Sunday lunch and after a quick phone call to make sure they could fit us in we headed off. Even though this is within walking distance we rarely use it and this was the first time we have ever ate here.

Quite a short number of dishes to choose from but that means they will do them well. Certainly the fish and chips and the burgers were enjoyed by us. And pleasant service from all too.

Visited last night with a friend to have a meal and catch up together. On arrival it was unclear where the restaurant area was and when we finally found it there was no-one around to signpost us to our table, which I'd phoned to book earlier in the day. I had to go to the bar, wait to talk to a member of the bar staff who said to sit where we liked and someone would be out. It felt a bit uncomfortable as we had booked a table to then just go and sit where we liked, rather than being assured by someone in the restaurant itself that there were no problems with that as the restaurant wasn't busy at that stage of the evening.However, having found somewhere to sit, after a little while our waitress arrived to help us. Megan was a very charming young woman and very helpful, and assured us that it was fine for us to sit anywhere. Our drinks then arrived promptly - the Doombar ale was lovely - and the food followed a little while later and was fine. It was nothing spectacular, but reasonable value for money, freshly prepared and hot: good pub grub. We saved space for pudding and that was really tasty, especially the chocolate orange cake!We left when it the quiz night started in the bar as it was making conversation difficult, even though we were about as far from the bar area as we could get. I would advise you to avoid a Thursday evening after 9pm if you just want a quiet meal where you can chat, although the quiz sounded fun if that's what you're looking for!

I went to Elwes arms this week, the pub itself looks a little tired, but I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised by the food and the beer selection. We just ordered Burger and Chips, My friend had the NYC burger and I had the Mexican, they were probably the best pub burgers that we have had in a long time, the portions were generous for the price and they weren't stingy with the chips either. It was a nice atmosphere too, would recommend it. Will definitely be venturing back, curious to see if their Sunday Roasts are as good.

We organised a 30th Birthday for 8 ladies and decided to come here. We thoroughly enjoyed the evening the staff were extremely pleasant and very attentive and the food was lovely.

My wife visited for our anniversary and had a fantastic meal from the extensive menu, which has a distinct Italian part. Very friendly service and good beers. We will be back.

We've eaten here a few times as well as eating out at lots of local places. Had the best Sunday lunch here we've eaten in years! Great value and fab quality food. The new menu is really good - we had breads and olives followed by spices meatballs. Yum!Definitely will eat here again!

I looked on Trip Advisor and saw nearly five stars for this pub. I was so pleased to book a table for a friend's birthday last Saturday (June 17th). Please be warned. The service was one person who did everything including run two bars. I had to ferry glasses and menus to the garden table. My glass of cider tasted tainted as if it had not been washed properly. The food was so disgusting I had to force myself to eat even a little of it. Everything must have come out of a jar or packet. The tables and chairs urgently needed cleaning or upgrading. On the next table sat a woman with two children who shouted at the top of her voice. She was clearly a friend of the barman who brought out meals for them all. Hardly a calm relaxing atmosphere. Don't go there if you want a pleasant meal...learn from my experience.

Very disappointed tasteless Sunday lunch, thank goodness for the mint sauce. Very good service but 1hr wait after being seated for our starter isn't acceptable, starters were very nice, so we decided to wait it out for our main meal as we were prepared to leave, when it arrived it was very below par. One of the bar staff inappropriately dressed crochet top not much bigger than a bikini top & no back, not appropriate for work in my opinion at anytime let alone Sunday lunchtime. Waitress who was serving on her own while there seemed lots of people behind the bar apologised on a frequent basis to everyone for one thing or another. Friendly, chatty waitress at the bar. Very limited Sunday menu, which is probably a gd idea but I was disappointed with the menu, what happened to the lovely food they used to serve & a gd menu with steak, lamb shanks etc.. This was Fathers Day but you wouldn't if known it. Sorry Elwes sadly we won't be coming back
