Very average, quantities in some dishes leave a lot to be desired (lamb!). Desert options poor. Saving grace was the drinks menu. Wouldn’t recommend.

We visited the elms hotel what we thought was going to be fine dining experience. This wasn't the case at all. The meal was very nice. However throughout the meal we had to listen to the head chef shouting and swearing at his staff. We was absolutely disgusted the way they was being spoke to, and the language he was using towards staff and fellow diners to listen to.This was definitely not fine dining at all. I will definitely not be paying a visit any time soon.

Had a one night break at this hotel. Arrived to be greeted by friendly and efficient staff. Shown to our room which was good on first appearance. The only downside was the curtains were torn in places and needed replacement. There was no dressing table as such which we "girls" prefer. Also it could have done with either one or two chairs. Everything else was well provided for. The room was a little chilly but when we mentioned this the heating was put on for us. Apparently it is on a timed system. The evening meal was excellent but again we felt the room was a little too cold. The drinks I thought were expensive but that is always the case in hotels. The staff were extremely friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. The downside I thought was that dogs were allowed at the hotel and some people were eating in the lounge areas with dogs present which I thought was unacceptable.

On arrival the hotel looks great, we took our selfie and things went downhill. I suppose you can't cater for all tastes but this hotel is definitely locked in the past as fast a decor and furnishings are concerned. Generally clean, it feels musty in some areas, by that's the decor. Staff were very helpful but appeared to be too busy or understaffed. We had booked a coach room, and from the website, were expecting an amazing room. Sadly not. Shabby to put it mildly, something that in the 1960's would have been grand, but now!!?? Dampness in the toilet on the sealant just looked dirty. On to the spa. Wow, excellent experience, pool, jacuzzi, steam room, sauna and mud room. Relaxing and enjoyable. Kellie had a deep tissue massage treatment and felt amazing afterwards. Onto dinner, looked forward to it all day. We were on a £35 allowance each which meant 2 courses. Presentation on the main course was good, but taste and texture poor. Dessert was good. The nights sleep was poor. Bed was uncomfortable and my partner actually woke up with her back in more pain that before she had he treatment. Hopes were not high for breakfast but the choice was excellent. We ordered the "British" and got a full plateful. Hot and tasty. If only the evening meal had been as good So a 3 rating, 1 for the first sight of the hotel, 1 for the spa and 1 for the breakfast. Would I go again? Not for an overnight stay. If I were local would look to visit the spa if prices were competitive.

We had been given a voucher for a present and wanted to try The Elms. On arrival I wanted to speak to the receptionist, she was busy filling out some cards and said she would be with me shortly. I was prepared to make allowances for that .She answered my query and then showed us where to get a drink. One lady was behind the bar with quite a few people waiting to be served! Our meal time was booked for 1.30.We did not get a menu until 1.45,even though we had arrived at 1.00!After another 10 minutes our order was taken. We had another wait so I assumed the dining room must be busy. Eventually we were escorted to the dining room. There was a couple just leaving and another table of only four people! Why had we had to wait so long? Our starters arrived before we were offered any bread. When we got it it was mediocre and stale! Would not be happy serving it to guests at home! Our main course of traditional Sunday lunch was lovely, however I asked for some horseradish sauce which didn't arrive until half way through my meal. Yes there was an apology for the delay, but why was there a delay? There were only six of us in the restaurant. My starter cutlery was not removed throughout our meal. Little things like this are noticed when you are used to good service. After our meal we went to sit outside in the sunshine. Tables had not been cleared! Even when some of the staff brought out drinks for other guests and could have cleared tables they didn't! !Unfortunately all these things combined did not make for a favourable impression of a supposed four star hotel.

Just returned from a 2 night stay and although it was relaxing and mostly enjoyable there is certainly room for improvement. We took our dog so we were put in a coach house room, which is also used for guests with mobility issues. The shower room was basically a wet room, very large, excellent shower and lovely toiletries the downside was it needed a damn good clean, there were hairs and dirt round the bottom of the radiator and edges of the tiles so a tad off putting . On the plus side VERY dog friendly, they even supply water and food bowls. Our room opened up via double doors directly to the garden overlooking the spa. We sat outside every evening with a bottle of wine (our own as hotel is way overpriced) enjoying the evening sun.Breakfasts were very good but they do seem to be understaffed not helped by the fact they leave the thermos of tea and coffee outside the room whereas if they left them in the centre table guests could refil their own rather than having to wait (and wait and wait) a very long time to be refilled. We opted for the 3 course dining room evening meal the meals were very chefy with dots of this and that and swirls of the other. A bit cheeky we thought as the menu isn't extensive you have to pay an additional £7 for lamb £5 for Halibut and £3 for pork leaving just 3 items without supplements and at £45 for 3 courses that was excessive in our opinion. As mentioned earlier we didn't have the wine as it was just too pricey. We stuck with water (£4.50 a bottle) be aware there is a service charge automatically added of 10%Pre dinner drinks were disappointing with a very inexperienced mixologist who had to refer to a book for every cocktail and my favourite margarita quite frankly was a disaster , Luke warm and didn't even fill half the glass and at £8.95 just wasn't worth it. That together with the very long wait to get our drinks (hubbys whisky sour arrived 8 mins after mine) means I would recommend giving that a miss. The grounds are spectacular and clearly a knowledgable gardener is in charge here. The outdoor seating is lovely with the exception of cigarette ends strewn everywhere ( surely they offer ashtrays ) We thoroughly enjoyed the spa which is pristine only downside not enough beds by the pool.Overall a nice visit, staff that we saw (excepting the bar lady) were lovely and couldn't do enough for you

My wife took me here for a special birthday evening meal, and to be honest, I have had better meals in a pub! The canapés were bland. The Cornish crab was tasteless and watery like it had been frozen, the main course of Hereford Beef wasn't cooked the way we had ordered, and the vegetables were undercooked. We were so disappointed we couldn't wait to leave so didn't bother with sweet. Very expensive for a below average meal. The only reason I gave it two stars was the Service was excellent. We booked an afternoon tea at the Elms whilst we were on holiday, despite mixed reviews. When we arrived we were sat in a lounge area as no tables were available and would have to eat our food off of the large foot stools. We asked if we could sit somewhere else and we were offered seating outside. The gentleman who seemed to be in charge was very polite and accommodating. We were really disappointed with the food. The sandwiches looked like they had been made in the morning/previous day as the egg mayonnaise was discoloured. The cakes then arrived but looked and tasted like they had come out of a packet. The scones were also the same. At a cost of £22 per person, we felt it was poor value for money after enjoying much better quality afternoon teas elsewhere for £15-£18. We wouldn't return again and left highly disappointed after our visit.

We go to the Elms regularly for a sandwich lunch. Normally we are delighted with the fresh artisan bread, the hand cut chips and the fresh mixed salad. A few weeks ago we were presented with dry sliced bread, frozen chips, a few bits of limp lettuce with no dressing. We spoke to a member of staff who said there was a new chef! We are used to, and expect, better from the Elms. We shall be visiting again in the near future and hope the old standards have been regained

I was taken to this venue yesterday by some friends as a belated fortieth birthday present so I won't be able to comment on the price as I don't know! We had a nice day. We're welcomed into the spa with a table of our own in a clinical and cafe style area, free welcome drink, robes and slippers for use at the spa. The spa is quite small and intimate (much smaller than I thought it would be considering the grandness of the hotel and grounds). There is a pool area which seemed to get quite busy quite early on in the day as hotel guests (including children) can use the pool facilities too. Personal preference would be a spa day without children but as I wasn't that bothered about being in the pool it didn't bother me. I spent time in the relaxation room which is lovely, there are four loungers in there and headphones where you can listen to relaxing music. If you don't wear the headphones you can hear quite a lot of the goings on around the spa so it's best to put them on either with or without music to block out the sound. We used all of the facilities including the tester Elemis products at reception, the experience shower which was like a tropical thunder storm (interesting) and the jacuzzi, sauna and steam room. The steam room had missing tiles on the seating area and could do with a refurb. The sauna was set on an automatic timer of some kind so had to go and ask reception to turn it on. The jacuzzi was nice and has an outside area which was quite lovely but inside there dead flies/bees on the floor near where you would be sat inside the jacuzzi which was a little unpleasant and unexpected. The lunch was two courses from a set menu which was lovely albeit a little bit on the small side. One of us had a chicken liver parfait as a starter and it came with only two tiny pieces of bread so we had to ask for some more. Another of us was a vegetarian and just wanted a salad with a veggie lasagne but the starter menu didn't provide a salad option so she asked to have a main salad with the lasagne, which was resisted quite heavily by the waitress for some 7 mins of negotiation until she ultimately gave in. My main course house salad with smoked salmon was a starter size in my view but pleasant none the less. My friend's open lasagne looked amazing. The spa was otherwise quite clean and tidy and the staff were lovely and kind. There was a bit of an issue at the end of the day where we had ordered and paid for an afternoon tea which we were due to have at 5:30 (ordered at the time of booking the spa). Coincidently the fire alarm went off in the spa which delayed our arrival at the main hotel for the afternoon tea. On arrival (at 5:50) we were told that there was no booking for afternoon tea and that dinner was starting and they wouldn't be able to honour the booking. That was of course unacceptable and our feathers had been ruffled by the tone of the gentleman who was dealing with our complaint, so we stood our ground and as we had proof that this had already been paid for, they ultimately honoured (under obvious duress) the booking and provided our afternoon tea at 6pm with a complimentary glass of prosecco each. All in all it was a pleasant day but I doubt I would return in a hurry.

There were not many sandwiches, although the cakes were plentiful and varied. We asked for a pot of tea of Earl Grey for 2 which came in a small pot. We found it hard to find staff to ask for more tea and hot water. At no point during our stay did any member of staff ask how we were enjoying our tea or if we needed anything else. We then had to find someone to pay the final day. It was such a lovely day it seemed a shame that we were not given the option of sitting in the gardens although this is advertised. The Elms has a formal restaurant, a restaurant at the Spa / Swimming area, and meals can be ordered at the bar / lounge. We had all three during our stay. The Spa is used for children's tea, which is great, but I do feel sorry for those on a Spa break who might not have wanted noisy toddlers. It would also be great to adapt the menu / portion sizes for the youngest. The evening meals were good. The worst dish was the rib-eye steak - an extremely fatty piece. The other main courses we had were all very good indeed - the fish was the best! The starters were pleasant, although accompaniments didn't always match menu descriptions and the puddings were very pleasant as well. The service was a little hit and miss - a variety of restaurant staff served the table, rather than one person for particular tables. This led to some confusion and times when there was lots of attentive service and moments when there was none. The wine list is extensive, but the mark up on everything is very considerable.

We visited The Elms for my wife's birthday with our sons. When we arrived to use the pool and have lunch we were treated almost with disgust. We were told that the pool was full but we could be squeezed in. When we asked if we could have lunch in the house we were told that this was not possible before they actually checked and found it was. So we felt very unwelcome. The pool was empty for the entire time that we used it. In fact much of the hotel was empty except for a variety of business people shouting into laptops on Skype calls. When we went for our table no one had informed the house and again we were looked at as if we were second class citizens wandering into the hotel. When they checked our booking had not been made but we could eat in the bar. The bar was entirely low tables and sofas so we asked to go back to the restaurant. When we got there the waitress just said 'No full you are too late!' This was at about ten past twelve. This is honestly the worst experience I have ever had in a hotel / spa. The hotel prides itself as family friendly but it is not even friendly. If you like snotty unpleasant staff, a mouldy swimming pool and the sound of middle aged men having half an argument then you will probably enjoy it. If not AVOID.

I organised a surprise 60th birthday dinner for my hubby. I submitted everyone's menu choices well in advance, organised for drinks to be served and canapés. sorted timings for cake to be presented then cut and served on slates etc. However, on the day I ended up decorating room myself then when we arrived drinks were on a table on the side, not been served. many guests had no drinks, canapés left a lot to be desired.the evening went from bad to worse. not enough staff on - one waitress for nearly 30 people! food was slow and cold, no wine waiter and few bar staff meant no drinks served at table so yet again guests went without asked for more staff to be told they hadn't turned up! delays were awful and guests left early rather than drinking together and having fun. I was so embarrassed and upset. we even had to serve cake ourselves as they cut it up and put in boxes rather than serving!!it not cheap and I certainly expected a better standard of service and food! I did complain after and the Management did agree with errors and understand they needed fixing but we can never get that night back.we did agree to give them time to sort the department out and then return unannounced. we did this 6 months later but the food and service was not much better, we returned again and the same - bad service and poor quality.its such a shame as its a lovely local venue for us but its expensive and just not worth the money charged for the service and standards received. very disappointing!

The Elms hotel lets the entire chain of 'luxury family hotels' down! It has all the facilities for children and parents yearning a much needed break - Bear's Den, spa, fantastic food. However, not offering a children's dessert menu, waiting almost one and a half hours for lunch and almost an hour for a cooked breakfast not to mention erroneous items on the final check-out bill and tired décor are just some of the areas which need attention. Although the staff were apologetic for the delays in the restaurant and waived the cost of the lunch, this is not something one would expect to encounter in a luxury and expensive hospitality outfit!

Wanted some where really nice to take my husband for his birthday for Sunday lunch When we arrived we were shown where the dining room was and seated. It was cold in the dining room. I mentioned this to the waitress who said they had had problems with the heating and she agreed it was cold.We placed our drinks order and ordered our 3 course lunchThe food, all three course was great, but by the desert I had my coat on, I wasn't in a flimsy dress but in a long sleeved dress with a scarf around my shoulders.I mentioned to another member of staff that it was cold to no avail. When we were having our desert a dog ran into the dining room, past two staff who must have seen it, they didn't move until I called them over and said a dog is in here.I asked for the bill as I didn't want to stay for coffe and the bill was brought to us.I said to my husband gosh that glass of red merlot house wine was £9.50.As I was paying by card I went into the bar. Whilst stood there I looked at the wine list a glass of Merlot house wine was priced at £8.00 not £9.50 I therefore pointed this out to the waitress/Resturant duty manger who was taking my payment. I then noticed that on the bill there was a 10% service change AND a 10% tip making a total of 20%.I said that I didn't think that was correct, she said that's what the till says. I pointed out that the till must have an error. I'm afraid she just didn't appear to see what I meant.I only paid for our meals but I wonder how many people have paid over the odds for their drinks and paid a 20% tipI did ask for a manger on the way out but was told the manager wasn't there, I hope the manager see this and checks the till in the bar for errors

From the moment I booked I received 4 calls confirming if I needed a cot, sterilizer and a nappy bin. Even though I had requested these when booking. On arrival no assistance was offered for our bags, bearing in mind we had just travelled 2 hours with a baby and had not parked very close. The decor of the house needs serious updating, the carpet and furniture look awful. We were shown to our room which was not the one that I booked with a foul stench of gloss paint, to then be led to a “better room” which was the one I initially had expected to stay in. There was no thought process when they decided to give us a room on the 2nd floor with a 15 month old, total mission if you forget something! We had lunch in the bar, the menu was very basic so we had to order from the children’s menu which looked better than the bistro menu. Children’s food was very average, definitely not what you would expect from a hotel. We got ourselves ready to try out the pool, although changing facilities were mediocre aside from a Jacuzzi, a pool and some contemporary looking seats there were no toys for babies or any children, just some beaten up old floats. We were having a very nice family swim until we saw a couple climb out of the jacuzzi, looking sheepish and readjusting their swimwear. They obviously looked like they had a lot of “fun” as the male was attempting to hide his "excitement" in his shorts... VERY INAPPROPRIATE for a family swimming pool and definitely NOT what you would want your children to see. We booked our daughter for a session at the Bear Den (free crèche), the staff called us after 10 minutes saying how they could not settle our little one as she was upset, then advised that it’s not really what they do. Right, so what do they do?Front desk staff need training in 5* hospitality… lots of junior staff with no experience who look like they have been thrown in the deep end. I booked a massage but due to a tough night with a teething baby, I could not attend. The man at the front desk stated the booking would need to be moved or I would be charged as I did not give 24 hours’ notice bearing in mind I booked only 8 hours prior to that I was unable to give 24 hours’ notice!!! Not impressed but luckily the staff at the spa had a brain and allowed me to cancel given the circumstances. In the morning we received a letter stating that we had to vacate the main house by 12pm at the latest as the house was hired for a wedding, this was the icing on the cake. I just wanted to leave ASAP, we went down to have a cooked breakfast which was “rank-a-dank” that’s right totally not worth the time. Thankfully the small selection of pastries and tea got me through the morning. (Dining area looks nasty by the way, not worth dressing up for)The nice bits were the log fire, the house cat and dog, the garden and the toys in the bear den. The concept of a family hotel sounds amazing, but delivery of this is poor! It did not live up to it’s expectations and I will definitely not recommend or visit here again.

The location of the hotel is inspired - a midway spot for families strung out over England/Wales - and the location is beautiful. There are facilities for young of all ages up to teens and the catering is ambitious. The bedrooms are comfortable and well attended. However, the general decor seems rather tired, the teenagers' entertainment room is Spartan and, although the staff are friendly and helpful, the speed of service at meals is pedestrian. Dinner is good but breakfast woeful: unbeatable scrambled eggs, hard poached eggs, limp toast. Worst of all, the charges: acceptable mid-week but a crippling surcharge at the weekend, while expensive glasses of wine barely reach the halfway point in the glass. In short, it was a slightly marred treat to go there once, but not again!Cato

We've waited more about 12 months to get a table in the restaurant at this hotel. Our last experience was fantastic so we persevered and have been told numerous times over the last 12 months they couldn't take diners who weren't residents at the hotel. OKay, yes it did annoy us a little because we enjoyed it so much. Tonight however was a different story. To give you an idea, we arrived at the hotel at 7.15pm and had finished a pre dinner drinks and 3 courses, and made the 25 minutes journey home in 2 hours. It was appalling from start to finish. The only good thing was th gin and tonic apero, and the bottle of wine. The food was bland and boring, and extremely over priced. The service was just as bad. I don't blame the staff. It's the management that need a very big kick up the backside. The atmosphere was awful, no friendliness, no warmth, shabbily dressed waiters , and the lady who we assume was head of restaurant needs shooting, no actually, she needs training to do her job properly. Our waiter knew little about the hotel, not even how many rooms they have, he said 20 something !! Really !! That's dedicated staff. But again, don't blame them, blame the management. We will not be going back. How disappointing.

The Elms hotel is a wonderful old Manor house in the Worcestershire countryside, with good food and great spa facilities. You can have a day relaxing in the heated pool, jacuzzi and beauty treatments that range from facials to massages. The gardens are lovely and warm, and on summer days you could have your coffee on the lawn. The hotel is child friendly with a creche so everything is taken care of. Have a great time.

A hidden GEM....O what a beautiful place to chill and relax and feel totally at ease with such grandeur and splendid features. Staff are so helpful and friendly nothing is too much trouble. Children have the run of the place but I must say it is all very well controlled. Gardens, Spa, Hotel Grounds, all just exceptional, a place not to be missed (but don't tell everyone) we want to keep it this way.

I think the website describes this beautiful Queen Anne manor house very well. It says ‘for yeas, The Elms served as a grand family home. Now it offers an equally warm welcome to guests as part of Luxury Family Hotels, specialising in child friendly holidays’.30 years ago we spent the first night of our honeymoon at this wonderful location. As a very special wedding anniversary present our children gave us a voucher for the ‘Champagne Witley Tea’. The food was very yummy and there were not too many noisy children. We were slightly worried that there would be a lot of young families. We do not mind young well-behaved families and you must appreciate that it is now a family spa hotel. Things change. The staff were all very kind.

Finally go round to visiting after my folks had stayed here. We had the Sunday buffet and it was superb. The place is great, warm and homely yet decadent and elegant at the same time. The place was spotless and the staff went above and beyond to make our meal a great one. A fine choice of starts from cold meats to fresh home made tomato soup. The choice of chicken or beef which were cooked to perfection really complemented the Yorkshire puddings, veg and roast potatoes. The lemon tart desert was divine but other ones were available such as the rhubarb pudding and the wide selection of ice cream. I can't wait to go again and book for a room. The grounds are well kept and I particularly enjoyed exploring the vegetable patches. It's rare to find a 5* venue which caters for children. Recommended!

Popped in here for a delightful lunch in the garden. We sat outside and ordered at the bar in the hotel- we were served very promptly with both drinks and food. The 'super salad' was delicious and good value.

Had a really nice day out in the spa with 14 of us.Therapists were lovely and on time.Food was very good although bit of confusion at checking out time with discrepancy on bill.Quite a small spa with very small changing rooms.Relaxing chairs by the pool were very few and hard and uncomfortable. Also only 4 loungers in relaxation room. And these chairs are virtually at floor level so if you had any mobility issues, this spa is not for you. Door closures that don't slam are definately needed in treatment rooms abd relaxation area.Personally, i prefer wildmoor spa, but we had a lovely day at the elms.

We visited here for an overnight stay and a spa package. The hotel was great, clean and tidy. Relaxed atmosphere with attentive, friendly staff. The evening meal was gorgeous, as was breakfast. There are activities for kids, as well as stitting / listening services if you want. The spa was well worth a visit. Again very clean, comfortable and most importantly relaxing! I can't wait to go back.

I treated my mum to a spa day at the Elms, chosen for its proximity to Worcester where Mum lives. Beautiful location in the country not far from the city, and nice welcome from staff on arrival. A little disconcerting to find not enough empty lockers in the tiny changing room, but having changed we enjoyed the pool and hot tub, which was half inside and outside! After a very filling lunch we had our treatments: facial for me with top Elemis products, and massage for Mum, taking into consideration her health issues. Lovely staff. Best moments for us were in the relaxation room where we cosied up in the loungers with blankets and cushions and dozed off - you don't get more relaxed than that! The steam and sauna rooms were also nice, with a very novel tropical rain shower. This hotel loses one star for the fact that it is hard to feel special when the facilities are being used for children's parties and mother and baby swim sessions - the area is too small for multi functional use.

As we are local we haven't stayed at this hotel although we do use the spa and we regularly eat here. We have a beautiful dog who is always made to feel very welcome when we visit, we are always on the look out for dog friendly places where we can eat in charming surrounding and we feel that here at the Elms we have found that. The food is excellent, the service is extremely good and the facilities are elegant and charming..... A lovely place to spend an afternoon! A huge thank you to the staff for always making is feel so very welcome and most of all of course for being so kind and caring towards our beloved dog Morgan.... She loves you guys! Highly recommend, if you want a quiet lunch then aim to be there during school term times as this is a very child friendly establishment and is very family orientated so weekends, school holidays and after school can be busy with lovely little kids..... But during school term time it's a lot quieter.Fantastic little spa to have a swim and enjoy the facilities for a membership fee or as a visitor. We shall be back time and time again, thank you to all that help us to enjoy this lovely hotel.

Friendly staff, good menu selection although hotel is looking a bit tired. In its day it would have been a magnificent home. The upside is that it is very family orientated so staff not too precious about children moving around. Lovely spa area. My daughter held a pool party and beauty session for 15 friends and the food they served was delicious and perfect for 12 year olds. Would definitely recommend this as the girls loved the pool that is inside and out. The range of desserts for the girls was amazing.

We ate outside in the delightful garden at the back of the hotel on a beautiful sunny day, choosing from a varied menu. We liked the fact you could choose small portions of most dishes. The service by Daniel was perfect in every way. We'll definitely go back!

The menu was poor, their had been no changes since we stayed last year. My husband ordered the risotto, he didn't expect to have to pull sticks of heards out of his meal.

After having a lovely roast at the kings head we sat in their garden having a drink. Really unprofessionally the manager came over from the star inn and asked us to join them because ‘the drinks are cheaper’ Maybe but the live music is awful and your pub is empty - we now know why. So rude. Really unprofessional and an awful attitude to have towards another local business Absolutely no business coming from our large group who would have happily spent money behind the bar.

An amazing Sunday lunch at this lovely local pub. Visited with friends and 3 of us chose the roast beef. It is the best beef I've eaten. My friend, who is a vegetarian, had the Sunday roast but substituted the meat for cauliflower cheese...which she loved. I would highly recommend this lovely place for a warm and friendly Sunday lunch.
