Have previously stopped here for refreshment numerous times over the last few years. Checked online before travel due to Covid situation - Website looks normal and menus etc. are up, so we assumed it would be open as usual. Arrived on 11/10/20 to find the gates locked and the place deserted. Looked at the website today and they’re still claiming to be there and taking bookings, but since there was not even a staff car there on a Sunday lunchtime I very much doubt it really is open even for advance booking. I know times are hard, but couldn’t someone at least put a banner on the website saying they’ve gone? Or just take down the website? Three weary travellers are not happy.

A pretty environment and friendly staff. Despite having very reasonable prices, the food was mediocre at best. Fish pie without a sauce, fishcakes that were clearly bought in and reheated; each dish was sadly accompanied by wilted salad. When asking for a dressing... the reply was an offer of salad cream. The lemon meringue pie was returned, turned and flavourless...and drizzled unnecessarily with honey. As stated by other reviewers, slow service but pleasant people. We are unlikely to return.

Having used this hotel on a number of occasions for a meal break in our journey, and always very pleased with the food and service, we were recently disappointed with our visit. There were only 4 people including ourselves being served food and we had to wait quite some time for our food to be served. The scampi batter was very overdone. A main concern was the conversation a waitress had with the other couple in the restaurant, giving details of her health issues and also complaints about ethnic minorities taking over health appointments, having other language information prioritized over English, and often feeling like she is in a foreign country. While the other couple were happy to have this conversation with her and were fully agreeing with her, this conversation could have been offensive to others and we felt it was very unprofessional of her to carry out this conversation in front of other paying customers. She would have had no idea of what background, personal life or job someone listening to this conversation may have. I also feel that as she has colleagues from other countries this conversation was disrespectful to them.... and these colleagues have always been very polite and given excellent service when we have visited. In fact one of her overseas colleagues entered the room as the conversation ended and we wondered how she would have felt had she overheard some of the conversation. Everyone has a right to their opinions but there is a time and a place to have them.

Lovely place with good staff although unsure of how to deal with complaints!!! Had a meal that was awful and I voiced my opinion to the 3 staff one being the chef, waitress and receptionist with no response. £10,95 paid for a cheap cut salmon with bones on 3 mouthfuls, not impressed. Shame let me down as I was enjoying the place.

An impressive building like this tends to stand out, particularly in a town which is short on impressive buildings. Curiosity was my main motive for pulling into the car park. Unfortunately didn't have the fish so settled for lamb shank. Absolutely delicious, just could finish it all. The vegetables were fresh and still had a little bite to them and plenty of mashed potato. I can definitely recommend the gingerbread cheesecake, it is to die for. The rose wine we had with the meal was delightful so fresh and light. There was a really good choice of meals as well as specials, 2 for £10. Something for everyone.

Had lunch here today and it was really good. The staff made us very welcome and the area where we ate, was light and airy , warm and with the white table linen very very nice. I had the peppered pork steak with salad and chunky fresh cooked chips. The steak was beautifully cooked and it was lovely and tender, and the salad was a mixture of leaves and it was served with garden peas. Two of our table opted for the ham egg and chips with garden peas. Again this was served with lovely lean ham topped with two eggs and the chips were steaming hot, lovely and chunky and properly cooked. Our last person had the beef lasagne with lovely mixed leaved salad. This again was very tasty topped with a lovely sauce and served with the lovely chips. This was a lovely meal enjoyed by all in very nice surroundings and we will definitely go again. The price was brilliant, two mains for £10.95 and you get hot rolls and butter as well.

Well...I am not sure why this lovely Hotel Restaurant with its charming staff receives such bad critic...to be fair I am a bit of a trip advisor freak I always check on here before spending our pensions....plus I haven’t lived here this long ...I had tried most of the other reputable eating places ....and every time I read this Restaurants critic it was always a bit “off”....it was late so I decided to try Elm Hall..there weren’t many cars in the car park..always a bad sign...so we entered with trepidation...we were shown to our table in a very elegant dining room..where piped violin music was playing...it had a relaxed calm feel...the waitress took our drinks order and left us the menus ...ok..it wasn’t vast..but it was Sunday and we had come out for a roast...my companion immediately homed in on the fact that they had pate for starters ...you don’t get this very often in restaurants today..or the prawn cocktail I ordered...they were perfectly acceptable and very nice ...although I’ve never had corn pieces in a prawn cocktail before but that aside they were both tasty and of a good size...we ordered Beef next...and again it was great..obviously from a joint of beef..the vegetables were beautiful and tender but not water logged..the roast parsnip and potatoes were again home cooked...if I was going to be picky about anything ...the Yorkshire’s were frozen ones..and the gravy was not homemade...the horseradish sauce needs upgrading and it needs to be served in a dish with a spoon..not in sachets...and finally you do need a jug with extra gravy on the table..I did have to ask for this but it was readily supplied immediately...I think what’s happened here is that the meals are “catered for meals..”perfectly acceptable in my book ...but not in everyone’s...but I think it was a joy not to have to have the menu deciphered because some of these restaurants have high ideals about what they are serving ...eg...jue and foam on things...and to have the food on plates rather than pieces of slate etc..and we did go for the pudding..Profiteroles..haven’t had these in years..they were lovely...and my companion apple pie ...which was definitely home made...all in all it was all very “70’s” but it was very nice and I will definitely go back there...but I can understand a younger patron being let down by this restaurant as it is firmly stuck in the “Bernie Inn era”...but as I said in suits two 70 year olds very well...

We called into the Elme Hall restaurant for lunch one week day, the restaurant was empty but it did not put us off. I chose soup as a starter and my husband white bait, my main was fish and chips and my husband had the meat pie. The starters were nice, then the mains arrived, the meat pie was actually quite nice with seasonal veg. The fish and chips was a surprise, the chips were stacked like building bricks but were only partially cooked not edible. However, the fish was the greatest surprise...it was a frozen fish portion covered in breadcrumbs which had not been oven cooked or deep fat fried, only put in a microwave so the inner was too tough to eat and the outer was uncooked and anemic, only the pies were edible. Then to add insult to injury the waitress tried to over charge us for the uncooked meal! Such a pity as the place seemed nice and convenient for meals, alas we won't be back.

Thought we would try Elme hall for a lunch, the restaurant was fresh and the tables well laid so we had good expectations, a very nice waitress took our order promptly and looked after us really well. The menu is traditional british pub type food and there is nothing wrong with that. Our disappointment was the food, my wife had Fish and Chips, the fish was very thin with a very light insipid batter that was not crisp, there were a few chips, a single mini sachet of tartare sauce plus a very limp lettuce salad with no tomatoes and no dressing - we were not asked if there was anything else required with our meal. She ate it and said how uninteresting the meal was. I had a steak pie that was quite reasonable but served without any culinary imagination.

Two of us had fish and chips served with salad. The chips were very good and the fish was lovely and fresh but the batter left a lot to be desired. It was very thin, very pale and was breaking up on my fish. Can't quite work out why that was. However, all in all a nice meal.

Having passed this hotel a number of times, decided to stop and try lunch. Although most of the photos seen show a restaurant with crisp white clothes, when we visited the only area that seemed to be in use was a small group of tables in the bar. 1980's style tiled tops with a rather sticky wooden surround was not terribly impressive. The lunch specials were very well priced, and the quality of the food was reasonable. The problem was the atmosphere - no background music, and most people eating there were very elderly and quiet, giving the place a feeling that you might have been in a care home. The rest of the public hotel rooms were a strange mix of slightly pretentious looking decorations and rather run down areas (like the chipped toilet seats)

Imposing location and pressed white tablecloths. However the roast beef, apparently locally produced, was overcooked and brown. The roast potatoes had the appearance and taste of reheated ones, accompanied by one large roast parsnip, a few sliced carrots and a single boiled cauliflower floret. The waitress informed us all the puddings (on our visit) were bought in rather than made in the hotel kitchen. Waitresses were attentative and smiley. This restaurant is reasonably priced but could be so much better if the kitchen staff tried to cook; and if they did their restaurant would nort be two thirds empty. Disappointing as our last visit in 2015 was good. Unlikely to return.

Having booked and pre chosen our food the week before , our table for five was disappointed when some of the roast potatoes were very hard and under cooked ! Previous to this l had to request to order our drinks . After complaining about the potatoes the waitress apolergised and returned with some more potatoes but by this time we had finished the food .We then looked at the choice of desserts and were told two of these had all gone , we then explained that my daughter had a nut allergy so this narrowed down her choice and when we requested a dessert which did not have but warning on the menu , was told that the chef said this did have nuts on the top.We all decided not to bother as there was not anything which suted my daughters choice. However we were not happy with the overall service and when paying our bill did mention to the manager, her response was to reluctantly take off a sum for the potatoes! She then took another visit to chef and returned with a plate of the desert and explained that the foreign chef had mistaken caramels for nuts !!!All this just seemed very unnecessary , and ruined the dinning experience for mothers day.The solution was £10 discount which seemed to be given reluctantly, with no apology .Disappointed in customer services!

Well sadly on this occasion I am unable to give a positive review. We sat in the bar area for our lunch and initially thought the service was going to be good as drinks were with us in very quick time. When we received our food we were the last customers in the bar and restaurant. Our waitress asked if we wanted any sauces and we confirmed we did. Well that was the last we saw of our waitress so we completed our main course and waited to order deserts but no waitress came at all. Eventually I went to the reception desk and asked if they had forgotten we were there. The receptionist was very apologetic and we decided to miss desert and paid for the food and left. I don't think this is the normal situation here but sadly this is the review on this occasion.

I booked a double Executive room for 2 nights prior to my wedding on the 5th of December 2015. I stayed on the Friday night and vacated the room ready for my fiance to get ready on the Saturday. When I handed the keys into Reception I was warned that I may hear a little noise during the evening as there was a function taking place. I said that it was no problem as I was getting married and wouldn't be back until late. Later in the morning I realised that I had forgotten something in the room and returned for the key. The Receptionist said that she had told the Proprietor that the function was no problem and that I was due to get married on that day. She then said please follow me and escorted me to the Bridal Suite and said that the Proprietor was upgrading us free of charge. It was the most amazing Suite that you could imagine. When my Fiance arrived to get ready ready she was taken to the Bridal Suite which was a total surprise to her. She was so taken aback by the kind gesture that she rang me in tears of happiness. Thank you to the Proprietor and wonderful staff at Elme Hall Hotel for making our special day complete. Furthermore, the Hotel is rated as 3 star, why, why, why. Before I took early retirement I lived in hotels including 5 star such as the Hilton. Many, many of them weren't a patch on Elme Hall for comfort, ambience, quality of food and anything else you could possibly think of. Elme Hall, take my advice and apply for at least 1 more star as you thoroughly deserve it. I would have no hesitation in recommending anyone to stay there. I have already said that we will return to celebrate our first Wedding anniversary despite living 3 miles away in the village of Emneth. Thank you once again for making our day so complete. Please visit this wonderful place as you certainly won.t be disappointed. Just 1 tip, if you want the luxury book the main hotel which is very fairly priced as they do have budget room in the Lodge which my Best Man booked. They are still clean and comfortable but for the little extra enjoy th eFULL MONTY. Than you once again all at Elme Hall

We had the two for £9.95 meal and was supprised at the size of it, in many venues when you have this option the meal is much smaller than a typical one. The restaurant was spotless with very plesent waitresses the meal was nicely presented and very tasteful, will definitely visit again.

I recently attended a funeral wake at this hotel and felt it was the perfect venue for Wisbech with plenty of parking. The room was excellent for family and friends to meet but unfortunately the food was very disappointing. The sandwiches were fresh but there were very few ham ones and they had the crusts on which made them look less than attractive. The cake was the worst...the family paid £9.95 per head for tea, coffee, sandwiches and a selection of finger cakes. There were two types of cake, a stale marble cake and very thin slices of the cheapest Swiss roll which no one could pick up. This Swiss roll can be bought in the pound shops and is full of soda and has a fatty filling. There was no help to serve people...the guests did it themselves. Although fruit was specifically not requested a large fruit bowl was provided complete with whole pineapple! Not really appropriate with afternoon tea. What a pity that Elme Hall can't provide food of a better quality. I certainly won't recommend friends to hold their wakes at that venue as it lacks finesse and is overpriced.

We dined here while staying at the hotel, it was great to have such a good eatery on site, saved us having to go out. The menu is varied and there is an offer of 3 courses for £13.50 which we didn't have because we weren't that hungry. We had Thai curry and lamb shank, both were delicious. the staff were very helpful and friendly. We would definitely eat here again

The food in this Hotel is outsanding both in quality and price, all food was nicely cooked to order, so a bit of a wait, however use of locally grown ingredients were obvious in the taste. Real butcher's sausages at breakfast, none of the cheap "Catering" offerings seen in some hostelries. Highly Recommended

We had booked, arriving slightly late for our 3pm late lunch, but were made welcome. The service was friendly, if a little wonky due to language difficulty, the drinks and coffee order being confused. Being a Sunday, roasts were on offer, so we had two beef and one lamb shank. The food was very good and plentiful, although the broccoli and cauliflower were not hot enough. We did not have desserts as too full. The bill came to £58 for 3 excluding tip, but including drinks.

The restaurant is small but very well decorated with full white table dressings, the service was attentive, friendly and polite. The choice was more than adequate and reasonably priced, in all we were more than pleased with the food. The cost of the wine was not beyond reach nor were the pre-dinner drinks from the small bar adjoing the restaurant.

Just returned from our first visit with friends having passed by on several occasions and thought it looked very nice - we were not disappointed. The overall appearance inside and out is of a high standard and the personnel all absolutely charming, very attentive and polite. The food, whilst it took a little while to come (which was not an issue as we were all happily chatting), was well worth waiting for and wonderful value at two meals for £10. We also had desserts and two of us decided to share already feeling full from our mail course but unable to resist. We were amazed and delighted when the one portion arrived split in half on two plates and beautifully presented - top marks! We all left vowing it would not be our last visit.

We pulled in on a very hot, busy Saturday more as a "Half-Way" comfort stop on the trek from Leicester to the Norfolk coast. The Hotel car park was full, so we expected to exercise the dogs, use the toilets and head continue our journey. We were informed that whilst they were extremely busy, they could accommodate us but there would be a 30-40 minute wait. This gave us chance to exercise the dogs in the large enclosed Hotel Paddock and Gardens and freshen up.As promised food arrived nicely on time two of our party went for the "two meals for a tenner" specials, Me and the Wife ordered steaks off the menu.Food well prepared, presented and excellent value for money. We will make Elme Hall a regular stopover this summer.Staff are friendly, welcoming and extremely polite, nothing too much trouble. Highly Recommended Immaculately kept facilities.

Stayed overnight, had a lovely time, evening meal was really tasty from an uncomplicated unpretentious menu.Breakfast was really a huge serve yourself or oder from the menu affair with a really good selection of fresh cooked and cold meat and chees platters. They cooked our eggs to order and the poached eggs were perfect.

Excellent value, we have been several times and the food is always good. Service can be a bit slow as it is a small restaurant and if it is not busy one member of staff is multitasking e.g. serving drinks, serving food and taking to and collecting from the kitchen. The wait is never too long though and the staff are always friendly and the food is always worth the short wait to get drinks etc.

The ambience of the restaurant was strangely lacking in any character. I felt that it may be more geared up for mass catering. The food arrived before the wine, as the waitress appeared to be running round like a headless chicken, at times. The food was bland and of a kind that gave English cooking such a bad reputation; e.g. mashed potato made from dried potato. The only good thing is that the set menu appeared to offer good value for 3 courses.

Decided to try this Hotel restaurant as we saw Sunday lunch signs advertising outside. A very impressive facade. A little difficult to find the actual restaurant entrance, perhaps better signage would be good . Through the main entrance, nice warm greeting, we hadn't booked, but were shown to a good table in the restaurant. As we sat the rom did fill up quite quickly, so maybe booking would be advisable. My friend chose the homemade tomato soup which was served with warm crust roll and butter. We decided on the Sunday lunch, I had Turkey and Beef was ordered by my friend. The meal took a while to come, but it was freshly cooked. Roast pots and parsnips Very Good, Yorkshir pudding and 3 more veg. Very tasty and at £8.95 the quality was there.I would recommend a vist, we will be returning
