This is a lovely little out of the way pub. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. I highly recommend, however it is advisable that you ring a book a time slot in advance. I'm not surprised though, as the food is fantastic. We will definitely be visiting again in the future.

We visited the Elm Tree the day before mothers day. Staff were polite and informative, they found us a table and informed us we will have to leave due to it being booked later in the evening. This wasn't a problem. We had three meals and two desserts. Cheese and biscuits were really nice but too much, so I asked if it could be wrapped up to take away. I asked if I could have some extra pickle only to be told I would have to pay for the pickle. After spending nearly one hundred pounds I was left very disappointed to have to pay for pickle and won't be returning.

We decided to try the Elm Tree because we are moving to the local area soon. We went on a Friday at lunch time and it was clearly very popular; with a lovely atmosphere. When we arrived at 12:30 they were already low on some ingredients so some meals weren't available. The staff were very polite and attentive. The menu is a little more expensive than other places but the food was mostly cooked well and very well presented on the plate. The only issue we had was with my partner's meal which was the mixed grill. The steak had a lot of fat (not marbled but uncooked fat around the edge) and he didn't receive the onion ring on the plate as stated on the menu. We raised it with our waitress and received an apology. It wouldn't stop us from going back but the response was a little disappointing.

I’ve have been here 3 times, 1st time was amazing about 3 years ago. Been twice in a month because it was so good then, was going through breast cancer treatment then. I was absolutely horrified that the waitress with dark hair took an dislike to both my daughter and I in an instant and made it known with her attitude, my daughter is very beautiful but alternative, but the 3rd time with my friend she was just as unfriendly, absolutely miserable and obviously did not want to serve us and yet again with a very bad attitude! We are both nurses and I think she should not work with the general public if she has discrimination to anyone she that she thinks is not the her normal!! It took me an hour to get to you but I’m sorry it is not worth the disrespect! Last visit 27/02/25

The dark long haired waitress was super unfriendly, felt we were not good enough, visited twice and both times was rude and we found that we were not good enough to eat there! My daughter was wearing dark makeup and then me work friend who I treated for her birthday she made us feel uncomfortable! Food ok but not fantastic, not like my daughter and I came 3 years ago when I was going through breast cancer treatment, I will never come again.

Nice cozy pub, good service from the waitress. However it was let down by the food. Ordered the steak burger which was ok but the fries were soggy and greasy. The coleslaw was served in a container not much bigger than a thimble. Another member of our party had lamb chops that were tough. Fish and chips and liver were fine. For the prices we were generally disappointed.

We went Sunday 12 Jan 2025 for Sunday carvery. Very disappointing for following reasons. Beef was tough. My friend had pork, tough. I assumed the mashed potatoes would be smoother in texture, these were not. Cauliflower cheese, bland, the whole meal was bland, tasteless and basically warm. So after about five minutes the lunch was cold. We have been here many times before in the past. I left most of mine as did another of my guests. The beef brought home for my dogs. Very Very Very disappointing to say the least.

What a gem!!! Lived in the area for a few years. Can't believe I hadn't heard of this place. Quintessential English pub. Humming and busy. Staff were helpful and attentive without being overbearing. Dinner was freshly cooked and tasty. The salt cod and chorizo fish cakes were incredible. Garlic mushrooms on toast was great. Mushrooms not overcooked. But strong garlic taste. The Beef Wellington was perfect. The liver and bacon was great. Why then only 4 stars for food? The creamy leek side was rather watery and disappointing when compared to the Wellington. And the chips were a little soft. Cooked well. But soft. Maybe 3 times cooked chips would be better. But that's my personal taste. Will definitely revisit. Recommend you do too. But make sure you book. You'll need to.

Just had a lovely Sunday dinner at the Elm tree. It was one of family members 70th birthday celebration and everyone was raving about how good food was. Everything was perfectly cooked, the portion sizes were generous and the service was exceptional. Sorry I didn’t get the name of our wait staff but she was lovely and very attentive. My child and one of the family members have nut allergies and they were very careful with it too. Being able to use the private room upstairs without paying extra was a nice touch. Also dog friendly. Myself and my 2 friends visited today at 2-45 We ordered from the Sunday lunch menu and had roast beef with Yorkshire pudding and all the trimmings. Cannot fault the roast at all, it was lovely. However things took a slight turn when we decided to order dessert. Me and my other friend ordered the white choc blondie with salted caramel ice cream. What came out very obviously a jam sponge. It was dry, spongey and had pockets of milk chocolate with jam all over the top. I quickly told the waitress who was serving us, then she had to get the manager to come over who was so incredibly rude we left the elm tree feeling irritated. She came over to our table and snapped what’s the problem? After explaining the issue she confirmed we had the right dish and the pockets of melted chocolate were actually caramelised cake? I challenged her as it clearly wasn’t. She then snatched the plates away without saying anything. She wasn’t empathetic or understanding or accepted any kind of responsibility. Because of the poor service from this lady I won’t be visiting again

I went for the fish and chips, this was a really generous portion and cooked perfectly. Afterwards I had the key lime cheesecake which was so tasty and light. Overall really recommend a visit. Went for lunch today. When we visit the UK we always try and visit the Elm Tree. Food is consistently good. Today it was the scallops and black pudding followed by mains of cajun chicken, vegetable curry and venison cottage pie. You really cannot fault it. We have been wanting to visit the Elm tree for a few years and it's always been the case of "next week". Well, next week finally arrived today. We weren't disappointed. Nice little traditional country pub in a lovely location. Steeped in history. Was particularly busy when we arrived. We were seated immediately and drinks were ordered and arrived promptly. The Sunday roast was very nice. Nice decent portions and a good variety of vegetables. Only real negative from our point of view was that the meat and Yorkshire pudding were served on your main plate and the all the trimmings in their own individual serving dishes. Became a bit of a juggling act as the table was small and the dishes hot. Not to deter away from the fact that everything was really nice. Had the sticky toffee pudding with a really excellent rum and raisen ice cream. All washed down with an unusual white malbec. A little on the dry side but served nice and cold. 4 adults with mains and desserts 3 pints and a bottle of wine £136.

Always accommodate my needs for vegan cheese. Have to order normal cheese on the app but always change it for me, no problems, when we ring up, which is brilliant customer service. The store got quite busy with calls but the staff worked hard to get my pizza done on time. Very friendly and happy staff member that served me despite being overwhelmingly busy. Pizza was tasty and generous with the toppings.
