Elena's Spanish Bar & Restaurant in Glasgow City

Perfect meal at Elena's! Booked to go before a concert at the Hyrdo and the food and service were amazing. The gentleman who was our server was so knowledgeable about each of the dishes and made great recommendations for us. By far some of the most authentic tapas in Glasgow. Can't wait to return.

Que maravilha esse restaurante simples ,limpo e um atendimento de primeira. Que delicia estava a mariscada, e como se notava que estava fresco e para finalizar tomamos uns Daiquiri de morango e abacaxi preparado pelas maos de fada da dona do restaurante. SUPER RECOMENDO!

Delicious tapas and desserts. Friendly and attentive staff.

Very pricey for what it is. Menu online is not accurate with options, prices or deals. We actually planned to do 3 for 2 as seen online, but there was no forewarning that this was weekdays lunchtime only, so we couldn't afford much on the menu. 4 couples went for saturday night dining. Service was non-existent, took a logn time of waving down and getting staff attention for orders and replacing water. No one asked how are food was. Not personalised or particularly polite. Ordered a slight alteration to a dish that was brought to the table inaccurately, had to wait a long while for another replacement which was a shame. Quite noisy inside, too loud for effective conversation. Hard chairs, a little uncomfortable, they did have comfier ones but we weren't reserved them unfortunately. Food was nice though, I would say a bit too heavily oiled for my personal taste. I wouldn't go again just because of cost and loud atmosphere, think the room echo's everyone's voice quite badly.

We were a group of 4 and had a variety of dishes, all of which were very good. It was a lunchtime and was quite quiet but I would imagine it would be much busier in the evening. The service was friendly, helpful and efficient. I would definitely go back.

The food here was the best food we had in Glasgow!! It’s family friendly and had something for everyone! Service was speedy and welcoming.

Food was fine but when it came to ordering dessert the waitress informed us that we would have to wait 20 minutes before we could place our order as the chefs were having a break! One of our group complained, there wasn’t much by way of apology and we waited at least another 40minutes by the time some of the desserts arrived. It wasn’t explained when we booked, arrived or ordered that the chefs would have a break during our meal. The cleanliness of the ladies toilets was poor. Don’t think we’ll return or recommend this restaurant.

This restaurant has been our favorite in the town for a while. However, the experience on 18th was rather disappointing. The waiter didn’t take our order after 40mins we’ve been seated. The steak was undercooked, then overcooked when it got reheated. Another waiter put the dish on the desk heavily to show he’s not happy about us. Won’t go back again

Brilliant food with big portions (for tapas). Really enjoyed our meal with highlights being pork loin, langoustines and octopus. Staff were very friendly and couldn't have done more for us. We'll be back for sure.

Visited during lunch so was lovely and quiet. Very nice clean, welcoming restaurant. Alcohol free drinks were lovely. Food was delicious especially the desserts. Service was great, staff very friendly. Would definitely come back.

I feel this place is such a disappointment! I’m from Barcelona and i was recommended this place and i did not like it, the service was poor, the tapas were expensive but frozen supermarket quality and the mains had nothing to do with good Spanish flavours. Please go anywhere else but here!

Sad to say that it's not as tasty as it may seem. The vegetables were incredibly salty, Sauces really vinegary, the chocolate mousse had a really strange taste, and the cream on it was definitely squirty cream. It was also incredibly overpriced for the quality.

The food was very good but what we liked most was the service, I forgot to ask the name but it was the waitress from Gijon! Super friendly and helpful! We will be back soon!

We thought we would give Elena's a try for lunch for my husbands birthday, given all the great reviews. I'm sorry to say we were disappointed. We selected the clams along with other dishes. After a short time, the waitress came to tell us there were no clams that day 😔 We then asked for the shavings of Iberian ham and sadly were advised that there was no Iberian ham 😔 So we finally settled on meatballs as nothing else took our fancy. When the meatballs arrived, so quickly, I am sorry to say they were cold. The waitress did apologise and rightly removed the dish from our bill. We were left feeling deflated after having looked forward to something different.

My husband and I chose Elena's for dinner on our wedding anniversary and we had a lovely evening. The food was excellent (as always), the waiter was very friendly and he even gave us two glasses of delicious cava on the house to celebrate our anniversary! Thank you very much for making our evening so special!

The best Padron peppers I've had outside Spain, excellent choices for veggies and the service was lovely.

Decided to have lunch here and was not disappointed. Great host helped with the menu and feeding the kids including one who was a bit fussy so we're Ble to accommodate with some items from the breakfast menu. Ordered vegetarian, vegan and meat tapas dishes and all were delicious and portion sizes were great. Two plates were enough for lunch probably 3 plates for dinner. Churros were delicious.

Go for the food. Just go! The food is excellent Two of us shared three dishes, a salad, a pork dish and a grilled veg dish. Good sizes and unbelievably tasty. We were there early evening and it was still quiet, but even still the place has a good atmosphere and the service was great. I will be back!

Lovely unpretentious Spanish restaurant and bar. Decent prices, lovely staff and great wine list.

Food was exceptional and staff friendly and welcoming

Returned again this time with my mother who lives in Spain. She was mightily impressed. She wants to go next time she's in town. Excellent place to eat, a real treat.

We were warmly welcomed by name as we entered having booked online and said we had a dog. They were so dog friendly, seating us in an area with more space and bringing a bowl of water quickly. We enjoyed non alcoholic sangria. So great to have a range of choice of non alcoholic drinks. Also a good range of vegetarian options. I’d highly recommend the home made ice cream.

The food was below par which was disappointing. No garnish and quite dry. Little to choose from, possibly because of Christmas. This man though, is absolutely fabulous, great service from him and the waitress

Very comfortable and even chic Spanish bar/restaurant. We had lovely tapas - although the Patatas Bravas, which we'd enjoyed a lot on holiday in Seville, wasn't as good here. There's often live entertainment here as well. Prices were a bit above average in my view. Still highly recommended!

We had a lovely meal here, everywhere else around was full and wasn’t taking last minute bookings but they managed to get us in. We sat at the bar for tapas which was cool. Great atmosphere and friendly staff. Food arrived quickly and was of great quality, albeit a little pricey. However overall a great place to eat and well worth it. Ideal if attending events at the OVO hydro.

Everything was just ok. Service was friendly but slow and occasionally inattentive. Food was a mixed bag of good and bland. And the place is lit up like a operating theatre. So bright it kills the atmosphere. The live music was welcome and not too dominating.

Reduced to 4 stars ** Update after 2nd visit: the food and everything was great again except them trying to cheat us on the bill .. they added two items to my bill of something that we never ordered. Of course they removed them when I pointed it out but did not even say sorry. So always check you bill! It’s a shame that they tinted such a great positive food and service experience. **Original review after 1st visit** Went to get a quick bite but ended up Staying for a few hours. Great service, yummy food for good prices. Loved all that we got - garlic prawns, prawn soup, garlic langoustines, house wine, meatballs. Love it so much that ended up coming back again the following day to try other items on the menu. Menu is pretty large. Paella can probably feed 4 not just 2 people.

Excellent service by a friendly, knowledgeable waiter. The food came quickly but tasted fresh and well cooked. The menu was varied and not expensive, as was the wine list.

Food not great . Sangria nice . Very slow service . Struggled to pride main meal for some if others having tapas.

Quality of food was fantastic but was slightly let down by the inconsistent portion sizes. 5 tiny pieces of chorizo for £10 was a lot more than most other tapas places and was the opposite end of the scale to the large portions of tapas we also ate here tonight.

We visited this well recommend tapas restaurant as we both love Tapas and haven’t been before. The back room was slightly uncomfortable, it felt a little tight for space. The staff were lovely and very attentive. The food was mostly really good, the deep fried Brie and the ribs were fantastic, but the mixed croquettes were less so. Over all the food was good enough to want to come back. Only real downside was the food arriving with in minutes of ordering, I like to relax and have a drink before the food arrives, kinda felt that the food wasn’t cooked to order.

Great place, great paella and great service.

This was the most fabulous place. The food was excellent, great choices and brilliant recommendations from the staff. The staff were so friendly and helpful, especially our waitress Nidia who was an absolute super star. . The various croquettes were stunning and the garlic prawns were to die for, we should have just ordered more bread to mop up that amazing sauce. Thank you for a fabulous evening!

Great food, we were taking the raciones and everything was very tasty. On top of that, the championship of the word was Tarta de queso Idiazabal al horno, the best cheesecake I've ever eaten!!! Great food experience and friendly serving. A+

Well established for evening and later in the afternoon, Elena’s also has a cracking Spanish flavoured brunch menu. Freshly made tortilla like nothing you’ve tasted here ❤️💃🏻 Loads of other options, down to fruit salad and sandwich mixto (ham and cheese toasty 😄). Really lovely staff and a relaxed environment to start your day ☀️

It had so much promise but failed to deliver a the basics of good food and drinks, good service and a clean restaurant. The food was ordinary and overpriced. The service was really slow and had to visit the bar to order more drinks and ask for the bill. The restaurant is dirty and tables left for long periods after folks had left. Simply avoid Elenas until the basics of running a restaurant are achieved. Be more price appropriate as well for tapas (not rationes!!) portion sizes. Goto other well established tapas places in Glasgow instead.

Wasn't as good as what I was expecting

Popped in for a little impromptu meal tonight and loved it. The staff were very welcoming and helpful and the food was delicious, especially the padron peppers and chorizo in a cider marinade. Will definitely be back.

We ordered the seafood platter with lobster. Very disappointing as it was not fresh. Mussels were stinky and fishy, no clams provided as they ran out but didn’t increase portion nor gave us a discount, and the lobsters were soggy and mushy. We told the staff about it and her first reaction is “it can’t be true.” And started explaining. We understand that seafood is all about freshness and quality control is not easy. However, the communication is unacceptable. By saying that it can’t be true simply implying we are lying. Why would we deliberately claim that? We finished the whole plate except the fishy mussels and all 5 of us have the same thought. We have visited before and know what it should taste like and that’s why we are disappointed. If the quality is that unstable, we will not be visiting again.

Loved Elena's we were staying in Glasgow for the weekend and googled Spanish tapas and ended up here and I'm so glad we did! We sat outside in the sunshine and the lady who served us(the owner I think?)was lovely knowledgeable and recommended fabulous wine and tapas, we had the tomato salad, hummus, mushroom & spinach croquettes, prawn in chilli oil and iberian ham with cheese and it was all delicious we cannot wait to return.

One of our favourite restaurants to visit when back in Glasgow. The food, ambiance and service is just great. We especially like the pulpo, just perfect.

A well run Spanish tapas establishment. Some standout items, others just very good. Very attentive service without being cloying.

While exploring University of Glasgow and Kelvingrove Park in the afternoon, we were thinking of having dinner nearby. We chose Elena’s place and we were not disappointed at all. Elena is the owner of this Spanish, Mediterranean restaurant and helped us to choose items including non-alcoholic drink. All the items were super tasty and reasonably priced. We sat outside as evening weather was very comfy. Elena and her team members checked several times if everything is ok or we need anything. We felt welcomed and made a very good conversation. We will surely come back when we get opportunity. Thank you Elena and your team members.

Didn't actually dine here but they graciously waived their cancellation policy when we cancelled last minute. Will consider in the future if in the area just for how nice they were!

I have been here quite a few times over the years and it never disappoints. Everything is amazingly good. The flavour is spot on and the quality of the ingredients is superb. I am myself originally from the North of Spain and I can say all the dishes are very tasty. No wonder I keep coming every time I want to enjoy our typical cuisine. This time there is a special mention to those "torrijas" (fried bread), which brought back some fond memories from my childhood. By the way, their cocktails are out of this world as well!

I certainly do not understand the excellent reviews and the awards. My partner went there a few years ago and felt the food was very poor and tasted cheap but as I am from Spain, I really wanted to give a try. So here my opinion. I have been to all spanish restaurants in Glasgow some are good some ok but this one was bad bad bad. We ordered five tapas for the two or us and I can say all five were not only bad but terrible. The quality feels like from Iceland ...not joking. My feeling when I left? They think people are stupid and they take advantage from customers, this is nothing to do with the spanish food. Guys honestly, as Spaniard that I am I would say to avoid this one by all means. Any Spanish restaurant in Glasgow is better than this one, this is how bad it was.

One Word WoooW!!!! 1 German and 4 from Spain had dinner there. All dishes was amazing tasty and very kind service. Preis is also very good. Went with expectation after glowing reviews but left a bit underwhelmed. For what we got, it was quite expensive and although it was tasty, definitely not worth the money

This was our second time visiting Elena's while on a trip to Glasgow, and we've always had an excellent experience. Great food, excellent service, and caters amazingly for those who need gluten-free dishes. We will be back.

Disgusting oily food like the pans had not been cleaned before cooking prawns and other food and bad service, especially once they realised we were going to complain they avoided the table like they knew it was going to because I am sure this is a regular occurrence. Gaslit me into thinking this is usual of all Spanish food when in fact even though it can be cooked in oil Spanish food isn't greasy or cooked in chip fat oil.

I think Elena has got the food great and Neil has added expertise on the bar side good place to hang out

Unfortunately was so keen to try this restaurant didn’t seem to tick the boxes for me . Chipped glass , sent back then a chipped bowel food on it .. Got the wrong order of meat dish but we just excepted it … Tapas food to bland indeed very poor . Undoubtedly we will not be returning Back . 😟

Great staff, food was ok, however when advised that they don’t do tapa size dishes we then ordered conservatively however Elanas might not do tapa size plates but they do do big plates with tapa size portions all a bit of a con when dishes are around £4/£5 more expensive than other tapa restaurants in town.

Amazing dishes. I especially enjoyed the croquetas de morcilla (black pudding croquettes).

The food is respectable. Pulpo a la gallega is my barometer for good tapas; it was good - a 4/5 on that. Overall it's a good menu selection with traditional options. Service was a struggle when I stopped in, and really hit or miss depending on who swung by your table. One person was on top of things, with another you might ask for a beer or the bill and 5, 10, 15 minutes go by wondering where they went. Worth a shout if you've got tons of time.
