Went to check out the shop, happened to get some hot drinks whilst we were there. There were only 3 tables with 2 seats each, with a small shelf on a planter which wasn’t immediately evidently a place to sit. We moved a couple chairs over. After a wait of around 15 minutes for a slightly burned latte, we were passive aggressively told about the seats, and before I could even notice the woman running the place took my drink when it was half finished. Mediocre coffee, overpriced goods, poor service.

We visited the cafe/ coffee shop, drawn in by road signs nearby saying "coffee, cakes & lovely thing". The sign directly outside said that the cafe didn't do meals, but as it was mid morning, that was ok, we only wanted cakes. But we soon found out that they didn't do any kind of food at all. Nothing. Only 2 tables inside, so on a rainy day, we had no choice of seats as one table was already taken. We asked for scones, but was told they didn't have them. We asked what other cakes they had, to be told "none". "The lady who did the baking had retired". There were no packaged cakes or biscuits, not even a kit kat in sight, so only had a coffee! I have never been to a cafe with no cakes before! The cafe predominantly sells gifts (quite expensive and no one looked at them) but they should really focus on the cafe aspect as there is nothing similar nearby. If they had good...or ANY cakes and more indoor tables, people would visit. Very disappointing visit here.

Stopped off for coffee and cake as passed many times. Three tables inside, more outside. Coffee was good but only one choice of cake! When asked if that was all they had was informed that the lady that baked the cakes had retired. What good is a cake shop with no cakes need to get their act together not good for business They do not do anything other than cake. The gift shop side or shouldI say mostly giftshop was very very pricey. Would not bother to return. Disappointing

I walked to Eleanor’s Byre full of expectations of a lovely cafe as the description was Coffee & Cake and Lovely things. I was a bit disappointed in the selection perhaps I thought is was a tea room however it’s is predominately a shop with coffee, tea & cake as a kind of afterthought. That being said I bought some little gifts they were a bit pricey but very pretty. My own personal opinion is the Eleanor’s Byre is a bit confused about what it wants to be neither shop or cafe.

Stopped for coffee, cake and to browse the gorgeous things. Coffee was ok but the cake wasn’t very nice. The portions were very small and one of the 2 flavours we had was very dry, we thought it might’ve been a few days old. The lad who served it had a Glastonbury wristband on his wrist and it dangled all over the cake as he was putting it on the table, not hygienic at all! The gorgeous things were on the main part gorgeous but vastly overpriced. Our main problem with the place was the lack of seating both inside and out. It was a lovely warm day so everybody was wanting to sit outside, there was only 6 chairs and 2 were occupied by the owner and her friend. We couldn’t believe that an owner of a small business would just sit and carry on chatting whilst paying customers were queuing inside and having to sit on the walls. We would not make a return visit.

Called in on our way back from a bike ride, ravenous and looking forward to a sandwich and a cake. To be fair it doesn’t actually say it’s a cafe outside but it leads you to believe that- a blackboard outside says “coffee, cake and gorgeous things”. Had not looked it up beforehand so didn’t realise the “gorgeous things” were non-edible items in the shop, and you can’t tell it’s a shop from the outside. When we got inside there were only 2 tables which were both occupied, so not sure what they do on a weekend when it’s raining?! The girl serving (Eleanor perhaps?) was very pleasant and helpful and suggested we buy pizza from the little hut in the yard. Not really what we wanted. The cakes under glass domes might have tasted ok but didn’t look very exciting and not much to choose from. If your selling point is coffee and cake both should be top notch - brownies, shortbreads, Victoria sponge, scones...a mouthwatering array worth visiting for. Otherwise a sign outside saying “gift shop serving hot drinks and a small

We have passed this place many times on our travels in the area and thought that we should pop in for tea and cake this time. Parking was easy with plenty of space and a level walk to the entrance for those who are less steady of their feet. It seems that this was more of a gift shop than a tea and coffee café as most of the space is taken up with a good selection of gift ideas. We ordered tea and cake which we took in the courtyard garden rather than inside as it was a beautifully sunny afternoon. It seems to me that they could use a few more seating options outside as even with just a few customers the place was full. The cake selection was somewhat limited - we certainly had expected more choice and whilst my ginger cake was fine my son's lemon drizzle cake was rather dry. The pot of tea was very good and there were some nice soft drinks to select from. Overall the place was Ok but we wont rush to go back.

Most of the space is devoted to merchandise (at the top end of the price and quality range, some local references but looks like big run manufacturers rather than local or hand made craft items). The coffee was good and there was an interesting range of cakes using various root vegetables. Both of these were around the standard Costa cost. To continue the comparison; the surroundings and atmosphere were much nicer the balancing the cup size is considerably smaller!

In a word, beautiful!Primarily a shop or perhaps l should say an Aladdin's cave of wonderful things, with the added advantage of delicious coffee & tempting cakes to help you along the way in deciding what to buy.The staff are polite & helpful, the atmosphere relaxing, the byre & outside seating beautifully designed.Loved it, especially the ginger & parsnip tray bake!

This is one of those little gems that you just happen to come across whilst driving the many country roads in Nortrhumberland. They do a nice range of home baked cakes, coffess and teas. There is also a little gift shop attached with some unusual items. Not cheap, but nice.

Popped in here having passed it a few times. Bit odd really. Lots of expensive things in a coffee shop. The coffee wasn't great so I still don't really understand why the place was there ! Hey Ho..

Visited Eleanor's 3 times during a week's holiday. Coffee/cappuccino/latte/mocha all superb as are the cakes. A very interesting shop to browse as well, out-of-the-ordinary gifts to be found here. Very friendly staff, lovely to sit outside in the sun. Thoroughly recommended ,we'll be back again.

Haven't visited Eleanor's Byre for over a year and was delighted to discover it as fresh and lovely as ever. A slightly different layout since last year, but the same charming, friendly service, quite delicious tea and cakes and the same discerning taste of decor and gifts. Quite one of the loveliest little places I ever visit. Somewhat surprised by previous comment.

Sadly, what looks like a nice place for coffee and cake and a great range of goods in the shop area, is completely spoiled by the rude, unfriendly and unwelcoming woman running the shop. We visited with my elderly disable parents and have never encountered such poor customer service anywhere else. None of us would recommend this place, other than to recommend you stay well away.

A great place for coffee with cakes with a difference and they are all delicious, especially when eaten in the courtyard surrounded by fantastic lavender bushes. After eating there is a great shop with unusual irresistible gifts for all. We bought some quirky cuff-links and a beautiful candle in a terracotta pot.Definately worth a visit. We will be returning, very soon!

Lovely setting, very friendly service and the coffee was delicious in bone china cups. The sitting area outside is delightful, beautiful lavender scented the air and great views. There is a shop aswell which has a great selection of gift type goods which are a bit quirky and beautifully presented and wrapped. The only down side, was the cake we had (coffee cake), it was very dry and neither the cake or the icing tasted of coffee! This is a real shame, I wonder if the dryness is due to the cakes being pre cut into pieces and therefore dries out. The flavour is down to the cake maker. A watch point in what was a very enjoyable visit.

Top quality coffee, mocha and cakes here, sampled on a number of occasions. An eclectic mix of shopping, crafts, gardening items, all very tasteful and not the sort of thing you'd find in a high-street shop.

We just loved this place. On visits to Embleton we need to pop in to the cemetery anyway to see how great-grandda and Uncle Clark are getting on, so visiting Eleanor's Byre for coffee, cake and maybe a touch of shopping is pretty much irresistible. It's absolutely gorgeous. The staff are lovely, the coffee is nice but, my goodness, the cakes! It's Cake Heaven basically. We had the coffee and hazelnut something-or-other and it really was so good you'd weep. To add to the perfection the site is lovely too - a beautiful tasteful conversion with what I imagine must be the prettiest - and most informative - loo in Northumberland. Don't miss it! Please visit Eleanor 's Byre whether or not you've got rellies in the cemy. It's just too good to miss. A footpath from Embleton would be the icing on the cake (hoho) but it's a fine fine place, so please make the effort.

As always the food was amazing and the portions very generous. A lovely warm welcome and Sarah went above and beyond when one of our party decided after our meals were brought out that she would like some bread and butter with her meal. Sarah sorted it out without any fuss.

We stopped by chance at The Percy Arms for a drink and ended up eating an amazing meal-Wednesday afternoon and very quiet but the food was delicious and the service excellent. The soup was very tasty and the steak cooked to perfection - we will return!

I’m so sad to see this lovely place closed. It had great staff and atmosphere and a fantastically good smoked haddock chowder. I wish its people all the best and I thank them for all the great visits we’ve had here. I really hope that there might be a replacement cafe of such quality. We’ll watch with interest.

Our introduction to this country pub was to a spacious, comfortable, immaculately clean bedroom, with stunning views of the fells. Next dinner and cooking of Michelin quality. A highlight was the scallop with belly pork, a brilliant dish. Next morning breakfast, again flawless in every respect from the service to the produce. Any prospective dining pub owner/chef should come here to see how it's done.

My partner & I came here on Sunday for a spot of lunch we both had Fish & Chips ( I had salad with mine instead of chips) I have to say the fish was amazing I would say 100 times better than you would get at a fish shop. The batter was so light & crispy and the fish tasted so good. The staff made us feel so welcome happy smiling faces and we did not have to wait long before our food came I would whole heartily recommend plants plus for lunch
