Very cosy place for evening out with friends or date. Usually it’s packed on weekday evenings. Absolutely love their wines collection ! If you are a wine lover this is the place to be. Food is great too. I have always had collection of tapas and never been disappointed

Found this place partly by chance and am so glad we did. Charming old pub with a wonderful ambiance. We had several small plates - tapas style - and they were all absolutely superb. There's a good choice and the price (given that you are in the heart of the City of London) was more than reasonable. Then there's the service ... We were fortunate to get served by the lovely Maxine. A very warm, friendly and genuine local lady who made the whole experience perfect. There are a lot of pubs and restaurants who would do well to learn from this establishment and its team - a good balance of relaxed and friendly customer care. We will certainly call again when we're back in town. AB/TB

Lovely venue . Food a little on the pricey side

£5.06 for a bottle of 330ml of Diet Coke. Never seen such extortionate prices in all my life. Makes WH Smith’s look like Poundland.

One of the oldest wine bars in the City, with a great atmosphere. Warm welcome on arrival and prompt service. Good range of wines available by the glass. Near London Bridge.

Nice bar, old style, and in the city. It is possible to stand outside and drink at some raised tables. Didn't eat, so can't say about that.

Great old pub. Dined on steak special which was very tasteful. Great bar and wait staff.

Fantastic ambience. Last of the traditional wine houses. Didn't eat just an excellent glass or two of wine.

Gorgeous wine menu complimented by an attentive team who know what to recommend. The food is delicious and well presented and the vibe is perfect. Highly recommend!

Friendly efficient staff, nice atmosphere and cosy. Had a latte and a few soft drinks. The quality of these drinks was good.

Nice old historic architecture inside. Good customer service provided by staff behind the bar. It's get very busy after 16.00pm and lot's of customer making reservations in order to have a space. Location 5 mins walk from bank station. Good selection of wine 🍷

I went here for some work drinks. Booked a table for 12. The team was immensely accommodating, provided quick service and were very friendly. The wine bar is very busy and could be a little too packed at times but it’s indicative of how well liked this place is. The wine was excellent. I mean why drink wine anywhere else in the city at that point. What blew my mind the most - the tapas. I will be going back there to eat next time!

Perfect place to have a good beef accompanied by a bottle of wine. Very welcoming and good service. Reference and obligatory stop for my next return to London.

Only there for a drink but what a great bar

Very typical British wine bar with a really historic building. Fantastic global selection of wines.

The food was excellent. We were a large party for Christmas lunch and all the trimmings. The gravlax was delicious, and the turkey was cooked perfectly. The service was great - helpful, attentive, and friendly. The ambience of this old traditional City establishment was perfect. Thankyou.

We went there for lunch yesterday. A lovely historic looking pub down an alley way. Service was slow, taking about 45 minutes for the food to arrive. We initially wanted to order more food, but one meal that we wanted from the menu had run out, which is fine. Friendly staff. The beef meal from the ‘mains’ is suitable for those on a strict diet. I wish I had taken photos of the tiny portions. We ordered the beef with mash which was tiny and dry, especially the mash. We also ordered hummus with pitta bread, a side potion of chips and a couple of ciders. The bill came to £53. The food was decent tasting, but the portions and dishes were so small that after we left, we had to eat elsewhere! How can the place get away with charging £22 for a main meal but give customers a quarter of a portion! It isn’t the price but the but the issue is you’re not getting value. Shame about this, as the pub had a good relaxing atmosphere. We left hungry. Sorry to bash the place but it needs improvement. I have the receipt to prove the visit and purchase of the food and drinks.

Excellent service, good food and wine

A great evening, the tapas style food was perfect. We asked for a wine recommendation and the knowledge team helped us pick something that was in our price range and worked with our dinner. Great atmosphere for a city location.

Very loud, fantastic customer service, it's a beautiful pub, right next tube station. I wish I got a table outside rather than in, but that is a personal preference. Got a mixture of some small plates, they have both style chips, I obviously went for the fat chips and they were great, breaded prawns weren't greasy, salmon was nice and soft. Definitely go after work vibe or for a lunch.

We met a family member for lunch. This is a lovely back street pub. The service was very good. The food was excellent. It's a real gem. A little history, this pub features the Dickens Room....a small alcove where Charles Dickens did a lot of his writing. You can reserve this room to drink/dine. This was a lovely pub/restaurant, and we will be back on our next trip to London.

Nice pub, hidden down a side street. Some decent beers and service is always pretty quick.

Really nice place which focuses more on wines than beers, hence the name. Had a mixed sharing board too. Nicely close to Bank Station too.

Very helpful staff, we were a big group and they were patient and attentive. Full marks for the service! The venue itself is more of a pub than a winery, their wine selection was quite good, and varied. Decent place for an after work event or casual drink.

Good old bar near the river, supposed to be one of the only wooden buildings to survive the great fire of 1666! Good selection of wine and port.

Very cute and cozy little place, hidden gem. Great wine selection/by glass and by bottle. Tapas were ok. However what stood out was the warm, friendly and very helpful service! all of them were so accommodating of my friend who is in a wheelchair. its refreshing to see this level of warmth from wait staff.

Tucked away but popular for a reason! Lovely little spot. It is pricey, especially the food and we often find ourself wishing there was more seating but the staff are always welcoming and beyond helpful. Nothing is too much trouble, from moving tables and chairs around to accomodate, wiping down outside areas where the rain has got to them and just general cheery, happy-to-help attitude. Their customer service is outstanding and for that experience it takes the bite out of the extra pennies on the bill. Wonderful experience - recommend and will return!

Fantastic little pub with lots of character and charm. The staff are friendly and attentive and were working hard, despite the hot weather. I inadvertently left my laptop behind and they were quick to put it aside safely for me to collect the next day.

Quality food and wine near Cannon St, and prompt service even though busy. If memory serves we had too much chorizo and malbec.

It was pouring rain, so my husband looked up “Closest pubs to tube stops”. The El Vino The Olde Wine Shades popped up, so off we went. Even though it was a busy after work day, we were immediately sat a small table. Maxine came up and shared about their Italian wine promotion. Excellent selection! She also continued on throughout the evening to share about the important history of the location. The oldest wine pub in London! Maxine made our visit very personable and memorable. Great selection of wine and beer. A beautiful, historical area to walk around. Definitely check this location out, for a real London feel.

It is a very cute, but crammed little place with a variety of wines. It is very old English style pub with great décor and architecture , but the doesn't reflect that, it is very European, tapas type of food. But it was delicious, tasty and plentiful. I would recommend this place especially if you have some visitors from abroad. England/European incorporated all in one. If it does get too overcrowded or you cannot find a table, you can always stand outside by a beer barrel.

Hands down the best pub to eat and drink in, in London. Danny, Max and the team are always there to help. Customer service is top notch, the whole team cannot do enough for every customer, and Danny's wine recommendations, based on what you tell him you like are bang on the money. My team and I are regulars here for all of these reasons.

Always a pleasure. If it's not the decor or the very friendly staff then it's the fact it's a Davies. No matter what it is I always end up in a Davies without realising and have a great time. Always full of character and good selection of drinks. What's not to love.

hello we took 2 champagnes and 1 portion of peanuts 27£ place is nice but price fully wrong - and by the way bottle was also not freshly opened in our opinion. Lady was nice but fact is : poor product, high cost.

Daniele is a wonderful manager at the wineshades. We’ve been here a few time’s at the beginning of 2020. Service is impeccable and highly recommend the food and drink. The customer service is lovely and and the staff understand the meaning of world class customer service.

If I could give 6 stars, I would! My party of 7 was warmly welcomed and shown to our table which was in a small semi-private room. The staff made every effort to ensure we were comfortable and checked back on us regularly for help with additional drinks and to confirm we were ready for our next course to be served. The food was excellent, as was the wine. The service and overall ambiance was the best aspect of our visit. We couldn't have asked for more! I have rarely been treated as well as this - even in very expensive and posh restaurants. Well done to The Olde Wine Shades!

Exceptional ales, nice bites too

Visited for food and drinks with friends after work. We were seated downstairs next to the 'Smugglers Tunnel' which was ideal, nice and secluded, and perfect for a group (we were 10). The waiter was a very nice guy, and him and the manager were very attentive and provided great service all evening. Tasty tapas, and enjoyed the beer and vino. We ended up staying til closing. Will definitely be going back.

Not quite the star it once was but still a fine place to get a drink. Has magnums for those who want such things.

Really like this place - you can grab a table and sit and talk with friends/colleagues without it being too noisy. Lovely tapas bar menu for when you are feeling peckish. Being a wine bar I was disappointed with the selection of Rose on offer and would appreciate it if they had a liquor menu for when you get fed up of drinking wine

It's a wine bar which is a fixture of the City and predates the Great Fire. It's off Cannon Street on Martin Lane and is easy to miss.

Fantastic tapas, beer, wine and service. Highly recommend. Ask about the history of the place too. The Dickens room is reputedly where Charles himself used to drink. There a picture to prove it, but no check in on social media!

Homely feel, good selection of beer. Excellent tapas. Service a bit hit and miss, but don't let this put you off. Proper old school venue.

Been going here for a couple of years now, mainly lunchtimes, and would thoroughly recommend. Not a great choice of beers but, after all, it is primarily a wine bar. They are also a wine retailer, at much below the prices to drink on the premises. Also offering a loyalty card, which comes in handy for retail purchases. The Primotivo is a personal favourite. All of the staff are really friendly and it’s very easy to become a regular. Tried the daily specials on occasion but the tapas are a great choice. A cosy hideaway, particularly in winter, close to Cannon Street Station - definitely worth a visit.

Popped in to meet friends for post work drinks. Very friendly staff, fantastic old tavern of a place (circa 400 years old) with table service and one of the most impressive wine selections in the square mile, if not central London!

Nice El Vino's venue. Comfortable and uncrowded at lunchtime

Despite other reviews on this site the food was surprisingly lovely despite our large group (we were 12 ) .The staffs had memorised our names and sitting so the dishes were correctly allocated throuhout the night. We were in one of the private room and we had complete privacy, and yet the service was attentive so that we never ran out of alchool that night. Their wine list is good as I come to expect from any Davey's estabishment. I recommend this place for any team lunch/ dinner.

Usually packed in the evening. Good tapas selection, good range of wines and a few beers. Has meeting rooms in the basement. Friendly staff . Expect to pay city prices.

Lovely haunt in the city centre with amazing wine selextion

We were here for an evening as a group for a charity event. Firstly, the atmosphere and character of the place is great. The staff are very good and knowledgeable about the wines etc. The food was very good, well prepared and presented. We thought that given where the place is and the experience etc it is quite fairly priced. We agreed that we would return in the near future.

Went there for a few drinks with a friend. The wine list is quite good and the atmosphere is nice and cozy. It's a bit pricey but I guess that's what you get for a wine bar in the city. However I wasn't happy to be charged 10 pounds for service even though I ordered all my drinks and food at the bar.

Such convivial surroundings and a wonderful choice of wines and sherry/port. The house Burgundy was sublime.

The waiter likes to serve you with a smile.. and gives extra fudge with the earl grey tea. What's not to love...

Ok, nothing to write home about. Paid £10 for a glass of wine and £27 for an under cooked steak. Won't be going back
