Excellent pork belly, great accompaniments (garlic potatoes were amazing) cashew cauliflower cheese was sadly very tasteless but otherwise, really really good. Extra gravy and apple sauce appreciated (1 tiny pot of apple sauce isn’t enough for 3 people!) and lovely staff. Unsurprisingly busy with the quality of food on offer.

The place was rammed on the Saturday night, and a better Covid incubator would be hard to imagine. So idiotic to go through the usual check-in, sanitise motions when arriving, only to be stuck in a room that was way, way too warm without a hint of ventilation anywhere. Food was reasonably good. The menu said "Scallops", when in fact it was one scallop, though nicely cooked. The accompanying belly pork was sumptuous, though the apple puree was too sickly sweet. I was disappointed there was no decent fish dish, other than fish and chips or salmon linguine. I took the latter and it arrived barely tepid. I sent it back, and was offered a complimentary bottle of Pinot, which was very generous. As I was the only white drinker at the table, and already greedily had a bottle to myself, I declined. 2 bottles would have been gross! A fresh dish returned, and was piping hot. It was a bit bland and I could detect no chilli whatsoever. Final grouch for the distance to walk to the Gents, which feels like they're in Hove. I cannot believe they couldn't find space for loos nearer to the restaurant. Overall, it was OK, and not expensive. I would return, but when less crazy busy.

You’ll probably find some better pubs in Brighton, but we didn’t have time to hunt them out as the weather was awful. Drinks were good, it’s a cosy place and deceptively big. A decent option for a couple of hours and we didn’t struggle to get a booking. There seemed to be a huge number of staff on though, but no one available to clear our table and we had to queue for ages at the door to get seated. Didnt see the food so not sure what it’s like. It was very quiet on a Sunday evening, but probably more to do with covid etc.

We came here Thursday 29th Dec for a drink before we went back to the hotel and were greeted by the nicest man who told us it was 2 for £10 cocktails. Of course we ended up staying longer then planned taking full use of that. He was lovely and made delicious drinks. We sat in the outside area which had comfy chairs and heaters. Will definitely return when we come to Brighton

Fish and chips are quite good, but I suppose being Brighton we shouldn't have expected anything other than expensive, 2nd time here around the same time but not busy at all.

Went in as a group of 7 for a late breakfast/brunch. Ordered drinks, 2 were forgotten. Ordered our breakfasts, and all that came were completely wrong. The veggie breakfast looked and tasted disgusting, as well as missing out all items except the avocado. The avocado toast was exactly that, no egg, chorizo or feta as advertised. Each portion was topped up with chips that were so burnt and crisped up you could snap them. Food did not taste nice and the service was extremely slow. Then at the end they tried charging us for items we didn’t have. We will not be returning.

One of the worst eating out experiences I’ve ever had - do not believe the positive reviews. There were three of us at a table on a Thursday night and it was absolutely terrible. We all ordered main courses. After waiting for about 30 mins (in a restaurant that was less than a quarter full), one of the orders arrived. We then waited another 15 mins or so for the 2nd order to come out, which only materialised after me asking where the rest of our food was. We didn’t even get to the third order arriving before cancelling it and deciding to leave. This was not just because of the wait; the food was truly awful. The ‘fresh calamari’ was basically rings of dry batter that seemed to have come straight out of Captain Birdseye’s less successful sibling’s freezer, and had no hint of any type of fresh squid inside. The ‘Greek salad’ contained a bunch of unchopped vegetables, a barrage of white onion and loads of jalapeño peppers (??) The burger was half burnt, dry and slapped between two stale, cold buns with a measly, cold slice of plastic cheese on top. The Burger King next door would have offered a much better option. No sauces arrived, despite the menu stating dishes came with them. This was after the waitress had managed to get the drinks order wrong and failed to understand our complaint that the ‘Pinot Grigio rose’ that we’d ordered from the menu tasted like Ribena with 10 tablespoons of sugar added to it. The staff were absolutely clueless and the whole experience was a bizarre shambles. At least they agreed not to charge us for the food we’d ordered, after we voiced our complaints. As we were about to leave, the couple on the table next to us told us they’d had a very similar experience and also ended up leaving without paying the full bill. To be honest, in the end we felt a bit sorry for the staff who were obviously ill equipped and at the mercy of a totally shambolic operation. Please do not fall for the lure of the Monarch - Brighton deserves better than places like this. Head down to the restaurants on the seafront or walk up Ship Street instead, you really will be doing yourself a favour.

Slow, Slow, Slow. Took 15 mins to get a drink another 30 mins to get our food even though there was only one other table of 3 people in (I can see why), then had the cheek to add on a service charge. At least the food was hot, although expensive for what it was. Won't be returning.

Took 40 minutes to do 2 drinks in an empty bar, also the barman was wasted and did my drinks wrong

The Monarch was amazing. We had a few wonderful servers who got us our food and drinks in record time and the food was absolutely incredible. A few more slices of bread with the cider mussels would be appreciated simply because the broth was so fantastic. Whenever we return to Brighton, the Monarch will be at the top of our list.

Great staff in particular a very nice women called Molly and a bloke called jamie. Very helpful

Absolutely shocking restaurant...was in there on the 28/08/2022 it was awful waited 40minutes for our breakfast they were more interested in serving a big party than the rest of us i complained we were sitting here for 40 minutes and they finally found our brekkie which was cold but still eat it as we were hungry! I could count the beans and if I never moved 1 baked bean over I would never of guessed their was a sausage underneath the bean and they had the audacity to charge us £29.95 for a cold slop they called breakfast...avoid these rip off merchants .

Terrible service. Our first waiter was really rude. The Pepsi's where actually cheap cola, And they charge £5 a slush. Not worth it. Kids meal was tasty though so can't fault that. Wouldn't recommend though overall.

Awful place, looks the part but waited over half an hour for a drink, which we had to ask for again. Service so slow. Cheapest food they can get away with serving. Cheap, watery ketchup on Heinz bottle. Staff stopped serving to smoke in the eating area. Arrogant, passive aggressive staff. Kids sausage and chips, was a sausage in bap with onions. Horrible place. Reluctant to give receipts

When visiting the Monarch in Brighton we have encountered a very good bar service but the hookah service was not of our expectation. The cocktails are very nice for the price they are but the hookah service lacked staff. At first the hookah was quite good, but when we asked to change the coals it began burning. We have asked several times to change the coals but got no service. All in all it is a good place to hang and have a late drink, but not the best place to smoke.

Nous avons plutôt bien mangé, et le service était plutôt sympa. Cependant, nous avons attendu +30 minutes entre l'entrée et le plat. Un verre nous a été offert, sympathique de l'avoir proposé. Ce que nous n'avons pas apprécié c'est que nos assiettes n'étaient même pas débarrassées qu'on nous a apporté la note sans même nous proposer de dessert ou autre. On s'est senti mis à la porte.

The food is very good, it’s not a 5 stars review because we went there on a saturday evening and the venue looked more like a party spot than like a restaurant. But congrats to the team, the food was outstanding, as was the service as well.

Food was very basic at most. Ordered fish and chips.. typical frozen cooked chips.. small portions.. definitely not worth the amount paid!

Service a bit slow but food was nice.

We had an excellent time at Monarch. We were a group of 11 celebrating a hen party. We were so well looked after by Steve and his team. They couldn’t have done enough fir us and ensured that we were having the best time. The food was great. We would definitely go back and definitely recommend for a fun night!!!

Great atmosphere, left my wallet by accident and the staff kindly found it, kept it safe and returned it to me via facebook. Would highly recommend!

Food is OK, but could be better. Reasonable value. What let things down was very slow and chaotic service.

2 cups of tea ordered I think was forgotten. Had to ask many times. It must of been about half hour before we got our tea. My small teapot was less than half filled Had to ask for hot water to least get a full small cup.Was a very hot day so we were thirsty and dry.Was given lunch menus when went to order told not available yet. Had to borrow another menu to order quickly a breakfast only. My bacon wasn't cooked left most of it partners was well done but he likes it almost burnt. Beans were cold. Egg not very nice. My sausage was tiny about the half the size of my partner's. After all the waits especially for the tea we were not going to say anything about it. A waiter who was not serving us did come over and ask what the problem was when waiting for our drinks he was helpful and chased up our food as well and apologise d only 1 person cooking and on the bar.

Absolutely incredible staff, Jamie the bartender and the Bouncer at the time (unfortunately didn’t get a name) were simply fantastic, extremely professional and very kind - thank you very much for being there for my friend and I!!

O M G totally amazing! I would drive the 8/9 hours back just to have the seabass again, that sauce........heaven!!! Apart from the food, the staff are great, friendly and over to ask if all ok or if we want/ need anything. Great place, would totally recommend.

We visited the restaurant just last Tuesday for lunch. Service was extremely slow - we requested 3 times for our orders to be taken. There was a long wait for our drinks to be served. We ended up cancelling our food order as we heard 2 other customers complaining that both their tables have been waiting at least an hour for their food and they were there before us. Disappointing experience overall.

Poor service, staff not happy to work there, long wait for pricy low quality food, also be prepared to bring your own tissue and forks 😂 Never again, would avoid even if last one open

Highly priced, very small portion and very slow service, you will have to wait atleast and hour for the starter and another hour for the main course, if you don’t have anything planned for the day you may sit here all day to get served. Pathetic experience

Came here with my husband on a mini break to Brighton. Saw this place it looked nice & the menu looked inviting, However after receiving our food of fish & chips with mushy peas & tartar sauce we were disappointed, we also ordered 2 diet pepsi's The portions were very small & for just over £12 a plate that's not worth it, I have had better fish from my local chippy. Then I had a desert of vanilla cheese cake which was bland. All the food was over priced & not even basic. My husband had the soup carrot & cabbage with 2 small pieces of dry bread as he was still hungry. The only think that saves this place is the staff & customer service which was lovely. Our final bill came to £47 & some pence which is definitely too much for the food we received. NEVER AGAIN.

Very polite and the staff made us feel welcome. It was a busy Sunday and we were treated very well. We asked for a kids menu pizza, but the server put in the wrong order. They gave us a full sized pizza but still charged us for a kids pizza. Excellent food and a clean kitchen.

You don’t get a receipt when paying with credit card. With foreigners they say payment didn’t work, so you have to pay one more time. At home you notice you paid twice. There is no response to email inquiries. BAD SERVICE

Came here for my husband's 60 brithday, the food was amazing. The staff were brilliant, atmosphere was great, highly recommend this place on the seafront.

Quite a big restaurant so seating no problem. Not bad menu and good portions. 😋 Staff are lovely. Mostly young people. Coffee awful.

We come across this loverly place by accident while on a Family trip and I would highly recommend going if your in Brighton The food was absolutely delicious and the staff are so happy and Friendly. Will definitely be going back if ever in Brighton again.

Lovely atmosphere at the monarch, good vibes, staff were all very friendly, hospitality was top notch! Had the beef roast dinner and it was to die, must was so tender it melted in my mouth.

Absolutely delicious food (got chicken Sunday Roast and fish & chips, also garlic bread with cheese - all the flavours were absolutely incredible!), only thing was that “while you wait” food came out at the same time as the mains so that was a little inconvenient. However, brilliant value and lovely staff - thank you all :)

Absolutely outstanding today. Roasted crispy pork belly with all the trimmings. Never thought I’d say this, it was all fantastic - but the highlight was the veg! Proper high end chef style (he even came over for a chat) 👌🏼

We had a fabulous lunch at Monarch the seafood is amazing you can watch the chefs preparing & cooking the food in front of you in the open kitchen, we had bottle Proseccos (£18) & 2 cocktails from the offer £(15) all in all very good value especially for the quality #highlyrecommend

Fabulous 'only fools and horses evening'. Super fun entertainment and lovely food. Our host for the evening was warm, friendly and welcoming. I would highly recommend.

What a lovely time we had at Monarch's we went as a group for breakfast and it was super tasty, the service was amazing would highly recommend. Next time we are in Brighton will definitely go back

Great place for a get together with friends, or a dance in the later hours! Friendly staff, nice atmosphere.

Our first visit last night and we were impressed. The staff looked after us well and the food was very good, especially the mussels. Later, the chef passed by to ask us if everything was OK - nice touch! Mains are about the £15 mark, and the portions are a good size. Well worth a visit.

Maybe it was a bad day for them... But this was the hands down worst service and food I have ever experienced at a restaurant. We showed up and had to basically make our own seating area. 20 mins later we still hadn't been asked for a drink so one of us had to go inside and ask for service. They came and took our drink order. What came out another 20 mins later was ridiculous. 2 men had order pilsner and got cider. I had a sol beer and it came out not opened then disappeared for another 20 mins until I got it again. All you had to do was open it with a bottle opener! And the rest of the table got their drinks 10 mins after us. Once again our drinks for dropped off so we still wanted to order food so had to go chase down another waiter to put in our food orders. The food was average at best and we had to keep asking where the rest of ours was. Someone at the end of the shift showed up who was clearly more experienced and took 50 pounds off our bill. But a restaurant shouldn't be being run like that.

I'll have to give 2*. Went there for the first time last Saturday and the DJ was just bad. Probably he was playing a playlist from a laptop because of the banging noise in the speakers, probably bad connection between the laptop and pendrive, couldn't settle for one volume only, either was super loud or not loud enough. Someone took us to our table and we was asked if we want something to drink so we ordered 2 cocktails. While we were waiting the same person came to our table asking if we have ordered which i thought we already did so we had to wait even longer for our drinks. I was happy when they actually closed the doors as we sat outside so we couldn't hear the bad DJing. Cocktails tasted really nice actually

Have to confess that looking for a decent cup of coffee along Brighton sea-front front early ish morning is not as fruitful as you might think. The Monarch was open and I wandered in. Good decision! There were quite a few diners eating what looked to be a pretty fair breakfast. I ordered my coffee and, not wanting anything too fancy, asked if I could have just ordinary poached eggs on ordinary toast. It was not on the menu but they were not phased and I was soon tucking in to some beautifully cooked eggs on lightly toasted, lightly buttered bread. Delicious and hit the target. Service first class, food spot on and price very fair. Highly recommended.

This is my 1st time eating here and i ordered a full english breakfast a latte and a large coke , the food was delicious and the guy who took care of my order was very friendly and polite , wish i got his name , gave him a £5 tip , i will definately eat here again when i visit Brighton in 2022.

Hidden in plain sight! The food is amazing (highly recommend the smoked salmon croque monsieur) the staff couldn't be better, very friendly, polite, attentive can't ask for more. Second visit for lunch today and they remembered my order from yesterday. 100% recommend!

This place is right on the seafront and the whole decor is superb. We had a fantastic cooked breakfast here, prices are reasonable and the staff are professional and friendly. Special thanks to Ellis and Sam who looked after us so well and made us welcome and . comfortable. Would reccomend to all..
