Ego at the Grapes, Shrewsbury in Shropshire

Came here for lunch on a Tuesday and it was quite busy, fortunately we were able to get a table for the two of us. The server we had was very good, unfortunately I can't remember her name - she had black hair tied up in a bun/bouffant. I had Calamari starter with Fish and Chips both of which were very good portions and delicious. My mum had Chicken Milanese and a lemon desert both of which she enjoyed. Very good value for money and brilliant customer, would definitely recommend.

Calling in for a meal. Great service, great food and at a price that did not hurt the pocket....

Excellent meal, good value, and very engaging staff who went beyond to make us welcome. Especially as we had a 3 and 1 year old with us... Will go back soon!

Very nice just came in for drinks

We had a fantastic time here, thank you to all the staff for making us so welcome and for such amazing food! We want for a family birthday and had the Sunday dinner options, although our 10 year old did the make your own pizza. Which was perfect for her! The roast beef option was epic! With the beef done perfectly, tasty gravy and all the trimmings you would expect. We thought this was well priced. You can have the rest of the menu to, but not as.good value on a Sunday, but the quality of the chicken dish my wife had was really food. Ample parking here and I would highly recommend 👌

We visited twice, one to celebrate a birthday,one to just have a meal. Both nights were busy, recommend you book before you go. The team were helpful and friendly and the food and drink were excellent.

We usually love Ego at the Grapes but today our party was disappointed. The portions were smaller and our favourite dessert, crème brulee has been taken off the menu. Shocking!

The sunday lunch we had was fantastic, large portions of food and the young lady who looked after us was spot on every time. Highly recommended

Came here yesterday with my partner, her dad and her step-mother. Having never been here before, we didn't quite know what to expect but wow! Any pre-judgements we could've had were well and truly exceeded. The service from our waitress was impeccable, she was attentive, not pushy with timings and her checkback was great. I didn't quite get her name though! I had the Paella Mixta, which was brilliant. The seafood tasted fresh and didn't over power the dish which is just how a Paella should be if you ask me. Everyone else had a steak, in which they all commented on the steak being better than Miller & Carter, which is a high compliment. The bill also wasn't extortionate, especially with 3 steaks being on the receipt too. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a great meal and service of a high standard!

Very welcoming and accommodating staff. Food was lovely and came hot. We had a Monday Special (2course £19) not sure on correct price as hubby paid for once!! Definitely go back again!!

We arrived 15 mins early but were seated straight away. Drinks order was taken within 10 mins along with the food order some 15 minutes later. All good so far. Food arrived not long after and it looked delicious except there was a problem and that we had ordered beef and it was that tough we ended up leaving pretty much all of it. The knifes supplied couldn’t cut through it and the chewing of it just seemed to go on and on. So given the fact the meat was the main bit for us it was a massive let down. Our friends had the chicken and said it was fantastic(just to rub it in). All in all lovely place and the rest of the food was excellent but would I return?? Prob not no as there’s plenty of places about for a good beef dinner.

Met up with a friend here today, spent several hours(!) and found 'Lovely Louise' so friendly and chatty it was lovely, and the food was delicious. Highly recommended, and will definitely be coming back x

Having had a lovely meal here in December, my friend and I returned to take advantage of their "from £5" January offer. As before, the food was lovely and service good. It was slightly busier than last time, so they did very well.

I had to attend the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and was looking for somewhere for lunch. I have never visited Ego before and was very impressed with the level of service and professionalism. The food was excellent and well presented. The Grapes and Ego will definitely be our place to go whenever in Shrewsbury

Very large pub which had all sorts of clientele within from families to groups and everyone in between. Bar staff efficient and prices reasonable no food eaten so can’t comment on that

After years of eating and drinking at the grapes while using the nearby campsite we were looking forward to our evening meal. Our drinks order was taken and came straight away then there was over a 20 minute wait for somebody to come and take our food order. People came in after us and were served before us, it was as if we were invisable. Starter was delicious, main was preheated and chewy. Then we had to wait most half an hour to get the bill, we weren't asked if we wanted it, I ended up asking a passing waiter (not our waitress who was busy talking to the cooks!) Wont be going back

Excellent menu choice and a good range of drinks to choose from, staff are attentive and helpful with good advice given about food choices.

Food was overcooked, not just mine. Service was OK and mostly attentive but bar staff were too intent on showing off resulting in several glass breakages which they laughed off every time.

Great service, beautiful interior with high end features. We were a table of 5 with a small dog. All made to feel welcome. We each had the 2 - 3 course Sunday lunch menu. All of it was delicious. First thing is the food was excellent, and I have to say Adam, our waiter was impeccable, he made the experience go from 10-1000. Would definitely come here again!

What an absolutely brilliant meal. Exemplary food, exceptional service and will definitely be visiting again. The food was prepared and cooked to an extremely high standard and the taste and texture was superb. Perhaps the best restaurant meal I have ever had.

Lovely visit as usual on Thursday evening for the Ego 5th Anniversary. Greeted with courtesy and smiles as usual. Complimentary glass of fizz was well appreciated. A very busy lively venue just on the edge of Shrewsbury, plenty of off road parking. A nice welcome from the staff when we arrived & shown to our table, an excellent choice of menu (we chose from the ala carte) The food was served within a reasonable time of ordering & was presented well, hot & very flavourful. Not the cheapest of restaurants but the quality of food was worth paying for.

We booked this as the venue for a joint birthday and graduation celebration dinner for our daughter. Although we were a little late due to the grad ceremony running over, we were soon settled at a table and ordering. Three of us had starters (the baked goats cheese was marvellous) and all four had mains and dessert. All four choices for both courses were very good indeed. Will definitely return!

Chose to visit here as a last minute decision with the family (9 of us) for Sunday lunch. The restaurant was extremely busy when we arrived but the staff were very friendly and great service even though they were rushed off their feet! The food was delicious & plenty of it too! My recent visit to Ego at the Grapes was an absolute delight! We opted for the veggie Sunday roast, and it exceeded our expectations. The flavors were rich and satisfying. The apple pie with custard and the rhubarb and gin crumble with custard were divine desserts that added a perfect sweet note to our meal. The ambiance of the place is charming, and the stylish decor creates a pleasant atmosphere. The service was impeccable; the staff were attentive and friendly. What made our visit even more special was their thoughtful gesture of providing treats for our dogs, who thoroughly enjoyed the experience as well. Great service. We were a large group of 8 with dogs and they had a separate area which was really nice. Service was spot on and recommendations for food were really good.

Great place for meal out with friends. Good atmosphere. Food was lovely. As a coeliac I appreciated the wide choice of gluten free options especially of desserts and felt my dietary needs were paid attention to. Very good service (apart from having to remind them of a coffee we had ordered). Although booking online gives you a 2 hour slot we were longer but not rushed out although it seemed pretty busy.

Good ambience as usual with very prompt service. The steak I had was a touch disappointing as it was chewy to the point of being on the tough side. Not like the usual quality food we’ve come to expect from this restaurant. Next time hopefully better!

The service, attention, and food was first class. Steaks were flavoursome, beautifully cooked and accompanied by tasty veg. Prices reasonable for the food provided.

I decided to celebrate my 21st birthday here after hearing amazing things. After a quick google I was sold by how beautiful it looked both inside and out and I was not disappointed when we turned up! Staff were welcoming and interactive throughout the whole night. We were served by a young lady called Lucy and she was amazing. They even went out of their way to make me a celebratory desert. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone, it’s perfect for any occasion casual or dressed up.

We loved our visit for afternoon tea - there were 6 of us, all staying at the caravan site opposite the pub. We received a lovely welcome and were very impressed with the afternoon tea, especially for the price! So impressed that we ended up spending the next 3 hours in the bar!!

Had a very nice Sunday roast dinner. Been here many times before, but first Sunday roast. We were not dissapointed and would definately recommend.

Poor customer service- were made to feel like an inconvenience from the start. Staff ignored our presence at the front desk despite looking over to us. Eventually a male member of staff, I presume one of the managers from his get up came over to us... no hellos or any pleasantries. Admittedly we hadn't booked a table, but when asked if they had any tables was told "well we haven't got any tables set up. You can grab a drink in the bar if you want".... so we did, thinking that they would set up a table and then seat us. Nope. Half an hour went by with no table nor any kind of update on the said table....even though the manager walked past us multiple times. So we left. Had they let us know what the hold up was we probably would have just waited, but the attitude right from the start put us off
