Edibles catered for 70 people at my birthday party last weekend. They helped is with our choice of cold canapes and delivered promptly. There was a lot of food and it arrived beautifully set out and was absolutely delicious; there was not one item people didn’t enjoy. I have been to several events that they have catered for and all were of a very high standard. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them.

This deli cafe in my opinion does not run to its full potential. I have visited numerous times and see that other cafes nearby are noticeably busier and their food is of the same quality. This establishment does not have a toilet which is one of the reasons you don’t stay for long! I would definitely stay longer and spend more if there was one. The tables and menus are sticky so need to look and feel fresher. The cafe has wonderful products but some are not shown to their full advantage

Came here on the recommendation of my girlfriend who lived in Banstead in the past. Amazing food, lovely people, huge selection of menu items available and also boxed/ wrapped items to look through too! Highly recommend the cockney bubble and squeak, best bubble I’ve ever had! We visited on a dog walk through the area for coffee and cake this sunny February morning. Huge menu and a chocolate shop inside. White cast iron tables and chairs outside in the sunshine - which is where we sat with our little dog. Friendly service, amazing homemade cake - the huge slice of Victoria sponge was fabulous and we took some cherry shortbread home too. Coffees weren’t ok but not great - not sure why? Watery, even the oat. But we’d definitely return - maybe have a tea or an Americano instead!

Popped in as had never tried before. The girls behind the counter were extremely friendly yet professional. The food was lovely. The homemade cakes were massive. My companion went shopping afterwards choosing many different chocolates and a homemade brownie for her finance. The food is not overpriced. I had seen this shop and I am very glad I took the time today to stop and walk in. I will be visiting again.

Ordered Edibles outside catering and it was fantastic. From start to finish in ordering, menu choices, delivery (including a last minute time change) and the actual food was great. Arrived on time on platters, all covered nicely and presented very well. Lots of comments from my guests on the food and it was all very nice. Highly recommend.

I wanted to do a deli shop because everything is so fresh and the cakes are home made and so delicious. My partner Derek lives in Burgess Hill but loves everything about Edibles. As I was going to Burgess Hill for the week end, I knew I could not go empty handed. Apple pie, carrot cake and lemon cake as well as ham. The carrot cake has frosting to die for, the apple pie has slices of apple so soft and the lemon cake is delicious. The ham is first class and great in a sandwich or in a salad or ploughmans. It is such a friendly place to shop too.

We had a lovely breakfast, bacon, sausage, egg and beans with a slice of bread and butter and a pot of tea. The butter is real butter, not spread. The bread is fresh and everything is good quality. It is unbelievable value for money as is everything from the delicatessen counter. We got ham off the bone, potato salad, coleslaw and a jar of chutney. We made a lovely ploughmans with our selection of cheese and everything we bought at Edibles. I highly recommend Edibles to anyone.

Popped in for a sandwich. Had a meal deal which I thought was excellent value for money, but more importantly all of the ingredients were fresh and exceptional quality and delicious. Fresh bread, proper butter, fresh and delicious ham on the bone carved in front of me, and some very nice salad - perfect. The next time I’m even remotely in the area, I’ll divert there for a lunchtime sandwich. I couldn’t photograph, it didn’t last that long. Many thanks, Ken

Edibles provided a buffet for my mother's funeral reception, and also supplied a server to help with the drinks, especially making and serving tea and coffee. I felt a bit out of my depth, having never organised anything like this before, but the Edibles management were extremely helpful and, over a free drink in their cafe, gave me advice on suitable quantities and what goes best with what. I spoke to both Liz and Valerie on different occasions, and they were both very friendly and helpful. I felt from the start that the buffet was in good hands and that I had one less thing to worry about in arranging my mother's funeral. I left Edibles with a house key and when the guests returned from the funeral ceremony to the house the food was all beautifully laid out and looked absolutely delicious, which indeed it was. The server (Abbie?) was dressed very smartly and was very friendly and helpful throughout. All in all, a thoroughly positive experience, and I would certainly return to Edibles should I need a caterer again, and I have no hesitation in recommending them to others.

Visited for the first time today. Ordered our food and drinks. Coffees arrived but still no food after 45 mins. We were distracted by a friend walking by and stopping to chat and after she left I realised we hadn’t received our lunch. Went in to speak to the young server and she looked totally confused and couldn’t understand what had happened. Infact no one in there knew what was going on. I told her to not bother. Paid for the coffees and left. Will not be going back!!!!

One of the immediate problems in winter when there are no seats outside , is the lack of space inside. One option might be to get rid of some of the vast array of expensively cute packaged foodstuffs that you know you don’t want but which might make a good present for someone else. The breakfast options are good, the food well cooked although I chose not to have the toast and was hoping the cheap filter coffee would therefore be included but it wasn’t. Still, the young lady who served me was pleasant and efficient (in complete contrast to the grumpy recent review posted here by someone who needs to try to take themselves less seriously), and I would go back.

This is our fave place to eat when we visit Banstead. the veggie breakfast is ok but it comes with thick toast and marmalade, so it seems a bit more fun. all in all ok stuff. However the staff are very young (two looked about 16 on our last visit) and they are utterly useless, slow, inattentive, unfriendly.took a long time to get served. we asked for ketchup (classy) and it arrived when we'd almost finished eating.I watched how they all work in this place....the young staff are very slow and fail to notice or anticipate much. the owner does all the cooking but she could have done some supervising? maybe shout out a few things to get the staff better organised. new customers in the doorway where totally ignored by one girl as she walked right passed them. a simple hello is needed here.my biggest issue is the recruiting of really young staff simply to ease the pay roll.they hate being there...rarely need the money for anything serious... and prevent adults from getting jobs.if I had my way I would totally renationalise the university system and have ALL kids stay in school and not be entered into the jobs market until they're 21.hhhmf !!!!

Edibles Deli is pretty tiny inside but at least when the weather gets better you can sit outside (although not many seats there either), it’s also on the main High Street so not the nicest of settings. Inside it also seems stacked with quite an assortment of items, chocolate liquors, old school sweets etc, in that respect certainly not modern in feel or look. The staff were all very nice and service efficient. We had a chicken sandwich from the children’s menu ( very nice although not appreciated by our little one..) cheese sandwich ( generously filled, accompanied with a small salad) and ham egg and chips ( always a fairly straightforward dish but elevated by the excellent home cooked ham thickly sliced). We left with a few slices of their cakes too..! So in summary apart from being challenged for space inside the food was lovely and I’d imagine that that’s the same for the rest of what’s on their menu, which is quite extensive. If I lived nearer likely I’d be popping in fairly regularly for a bacon or sausage sarnie at the very least!

I grew up in Banstead and remember the 'buzz' when the delicatessan opened; it seemd very exotic back then. A great selection of unusual and tasty looking goodies both on the shelves, in the window and displayed outside. I never ate there until last month when my daughter met me there for a quick, quiet lunch. What a disappointment. My experience seems very different from that of other reviewers. The staff were detached and distracted; one girl noticeably rolled her eyes at a customer and had to be asked several times by another for a menu. My jacket potato was hard & even when I requested an extra blast in the microwave (I didn't expect anything more), it was still unyielding and fairly tasteless with a stingy portion of coronation chicken. We were there primarily to talk, so went elsewhere for coffee. Very disappointed

Edibles is a small shop unit stuffed full of old-fashioned and modern confectionery, English and continental small foodstuffs such as sauces, jams, chutneys, deli bits and pieces etc and yet you can get takeaway food or have a "sit-down" light meal at tables for two or (1) three. (I understand that, in warmer times, you can sit outside.)The main business of the shop must be the vast range of comestibles for sale, and if there is a 'down-side' of having meal here it's staring at the sugar mice, chocolate trains, 'Chilly Chilly Bang Bang Chutney" etc etc etc.The menu is quite varied for such a tiny establishment, and although it has a dozen fillings for baked potatoes there are many other things on offer. My companion opted for the basic Chilli con Carne filling with a salad, but it came with a separate serving of butter for her to add to taste. I had the "Pie of the Day", which happened to be a lovely flan-shaped thin pastry case stuffed full of chunky beef and a thick gravy. It came with chips cooked to order and a nice portion of quite delicately prepared vegetables. I hate having a place swimming in gravy, but a nice touch here was that, although a little clear gravy had been added to the plate for presentation, more clear gravy was provided in a separate sauce boat which I could, and did, add to taste.Other patrons were having light lunches and it appeared that this is a hidden gem, known to the locals who know what they like. The deli items for sale included nice looking proper ham and salt beef which could presumably be bought as deli or as sandwiches. What a find.

A few years ago was our first visit to Edibles. We where warmly welcomed and the food was very enjoyable. Unfortunately, things just went downhill from there. We visited a few more times and the service went from excellent to disappointing and the food went from wonderful to basic.Against our better judgment my partner and I decided to try Edibles again for an afternoon cake and coffee. Again the service was awful. We ordered 2 pieces of cake. From where we were sitting we could see though the display case that one of the pieces of cake fell onto the counter where boxes were and had been placed as the staff was stocking shelves while serving food at the same time. My partner asked for another price of cake and told the waitress why. When she went behind the counter to get another piece of cake the waitress and her work colleges had a good laugh because we could see what had happened. We will not try Edibles again. When my husband and I started to plan our wedding and blessing in May we wondered who we could ask to do the catering. We spoke to the couple who run the Post Office in the village where we live and they recommended Edibles in Banstead - they had been to a few events where Edibles had done the catering and had been very impressed. So, we went home and looked them up on the Internet before ringing to make an appointment to visit.I should mention here that as well as doing catering for various events, Edibles also have a café and delicatessen in the High Street (opposite Waitrose) which is open more or less 9 to 5 from Tuesday to Saturdays. There is a nice variety of different things available from the usual sandwiches and cakes with of course hot drinks, through to hand made chocolates and some delicious looking salads - many of which are also used or are available as part of the catering service. The lady we saw, Val who is a partner in the business, was very friendly and helpful offering us a cup of tea while we sat down on a seat outside to discuss our requirements. Being both vegetarian and wheat intolerant, we were concerned that they would not be able to cater for our needs, but Val reassured us that almost everything was home made and that they could guarantee that there would no cross contamination whatsoever. This really impressed us and got our attention - she also understood that vegetarians eat more than eggs and cheese, offering a seemingly endless variety of choices. She gave us a menu to take home and discuss, although I think we had already decided that this the right place.A few weeks later after we had worked out the numbers and of course our budget, we went back to confirm our order. It was Val once again who took all the details. The cost for around 40 guests came in a little under £300 which I thought was really excellent value for money, especially considering the extra cost of gluten free, which can be expensive. It seemed only fair bearing this in mind that we did pay a little more. For our £300 we had a nice selection of sandwiches on Genius mixed white and brown bread - some cheese, some egg mayonnaise, some humous and some delicious roasted vegetables. We also had 2 quiches (the brie and sun dried tomato was to die for), coleslaw and potato salad, some baby jacket potatoes (these went down particularly well with our guests) and various salads - the orange and avocado was particularly good. There was also of course the cake (more about that later). The food arrived promptly as arranged at 12 noon, in a well marked and refrigerated van, all packed into crates and was beautifully presented on proper platters with serving spoons and everything we needed. The piece de resistance was of course the cake, which we had asked to be decorated with a green and blue butterfly on white icing in keeping with our blessing butterfly theme. It was so beautiful we didn't want to cut it ! Even the knife was supplied, which I was surprised at as we had been told that we would have to provide our own. The driver was very helpful and carried it all upstairs with the help of our friends, and laid it all out on the table covered in film so as to keep it fresh. When it was time to eat, everyone commented on how good it looked, but it tasted even better. You really could not tell that it was gluten free, which is often heavier and more chewy. Really and truly though we were really impressed by this company and cannot recommend them enough. Nothing seemed too much trouble and Val went out of her way to help us feel valued as a customer. They may well have found some new fans from among our friends. I would absolutely recommend Edibles to anyone who is planning a celebration or event of any kind and cannot rate them highly enough. The service that we received from Edibles made what was already a special day even better and one that neither of us will ever forget.

Delicious Sunday roast. We’ve not eaten at the Skimmington Castle for a long time and I’m so glad we went back. The Sunday roast was delicious, generous portions and bottomless potatoes which are the nicest I’ve eaten out. Lovely crisp roasts. My husband had the brioche bread and butter pudding and I had a sneaky bite and it was heavenly. Everything is homemade and you can tell. The service was lovely, attentive without being intrusive. My partner and I enjoyed having breakfast here with my bro-in-law & his wife this morning (they’d not visited beforehand). We have been visiting his local café regularly for three years and the staff always remember us with a genuine smile & warm welcome. Their mega breakfast is delicious but they have such a super menu selection you’re spoilt for choice when it comes to just having breakfast! Recommended as it’s good value for money. The only downside is how popular it can be, meaning finding a table can be pot luck on a busy Saturday morning. Thankfully we grabbed the last available table this morning. Thank you to the Silver Spoon team.
