Good food, nice atmosphere with the Chesterfield couches in the pub area. 1 large TV for sports. Sunday roast was very nice too. Outside seating available.

Cheerful staff and a good menu + good selection of Malt Whiskies made for an enjoyable evening. Field mushrooms in a quality sauce followed by a hefty size beef curry were delicious. Old leather furniture to relax in with a dram or two completed our evening. Breakfast the next day was just as good.

We visited here twice to eat and drink during our week in the Lakes. We were a group of 8 people 4 adults and 4 children (teenagers) Can't fault it, great food, atmosphere, staff were great. and the kids would have ate there every night if we allowed. Very relaxed. Would definitely recommend this place for a nice relaxing atmosphere especially after walking all day.

We needed a place to stay near Penrith as taking my sisters dog to a specialist vets for cataracts removing. We needed a twin bedded room on ground floor where we could take a dog.Could not have been more helpful and welcoming. We had evening meals in the bar area which were very good and filling, fish and chips and haddock fish cakes and chips we were so full we couldn’t manage a pudding but were assured if we came back later we could have one then. We did, an hour and a half later and had sticky toffee pudding delivered to our room. Excellent service! Our room was pleasant with everything we needed although the bathroom was a little narrow it was adequate for our needs , we stayed 2 nights and plan to return later in the year. Every member of staff was pleasant obliging and friendly and Covid precautions were very evident and reassuring we felt very safe there, even though there was a contingent of 10 veteran cars and their families staying for 4 days too. Can’t wait to return.

Me and three mates are doing the coast to coast cycle ride, after 10 hours of uphill cycling we arrived and checked in. In advance we had booked a dinner table for 7.30. We arrived on time and ordered. When nothing had arrived by 8.30 we politely asked if there was a problem? The response was a hand in the face and a terse 'it's coming'. After asking once more, it finally arrived an hour and a half after we had ordered, and the food was poor. Rubbery lasagna and dry fish and chips. We did receive an apology and a 'it's not my fault!' from the waitress after we had eaten, and whilst we don't blame those individuals per se, for an establishment that professes to cater for walkers and cyclists - who are inevitably very hungry - this service isn't good enough. Limited choices locally for accommodation, but we suggest planning for getting food elsewhere if you are staying here.

We ate in the bar. There is a specials board and the menu is ok, traditional And homemade. Main course around 10.00 up. Soup is homemade and tasty. We ordered gammon and lasagne. Good portions, homemade chips and to be fairon the gammon is excellent value, tasty and we'll cooked. The lasagne was ok, finding half cloves of garlic was a little overpowering though. There is a restraunt wr were given the choice of here or in the bar area. We chose the bar. There is a conservetory that overlooks the garden with a few tables but this was full. The bar tables were -in my view- too low, so sitting in enclosed Chesterfield type chairs to eat was just about comfortable. It's a big area and the bar and Chesterfield sofas are welcoming and nice to sit and have a drink on. However, past this it's dated. The first visit I noted that the hotel reception was being painted so I'm hopeful that the bar area is next. There were couples -older- eating here and it appeared to me a fair few contractors??!! Based on vehicles in car park and groups of males watching TV. This is a friendly enough place and has some positives, homemade food for one, so don't dismiss it.

Nice rooms, great breakfast and good wifi. In a lovely location nestled in the Penrith hills. Some good walks and very close to the M6. Be warned there is a local cockeral who does sound the morning alarm, so don't stay if this will annoy you. I quite like it. Staff are really friendly too

Had a great two night stay here in room 16 (penthouse) which is recently refurbished, spacious and fantastic, huge comfortable bed. Food was fantastic home cooked, very large portions. Owners and staff were all very friendly. Lovely gardens - free entertainment watching the free range chickens roosting in the trees while eating dinner. Convenient for North Lakes. Excellent value for money. Would definitely visit again.

We were staying with friends who live locally, and the 4 of us went for an evening meal here after seeing the place advertised. We all went for the fish and home made chips and mushy peas. The Fish and the peas were very nice, however, the chips were definitely not home made and were frozen. Why advertise it, if you cant deliver it?? Very dissapointing. The price of the wine was £4.50 for a standard 175ml glass which was only house wine. All in all, it was an ok meal but we wont be returning.

We just had a meal for six. Five steaks, only two were decent and one was absolutely foul. The pepper sauce tasted just wrong. The lettuce in the salads was browning.Throughout the entire meal no one asked us if we wanted a drink and after the meal, no one even asked if we wanted dessert. We did complain, but it was laughed off and we had to argue to prove the lettuce was brown.I rarely complain, but the price of the meal, the service and quality of food have inspired me.The worst meal out we've had in along, long time.Would not recommend.

Stayed here to break our journey from Central Scotland to the Peak District. Had a very pleasant chalet type room at the rear of the property with easy access. Enjoyed a drink and an evening meal in the bar with our wee dog. We both had the sirloin steak with was generous in proportion and quite tasty.Staff friendly as were the locals. Would definitely return.

We dined in Bustro 1871 as part of a short break holiday at the Appleby Manor Hotel. What a lovely break this was. Our first after the Spring and Summer lockdown. The food was really good and the waiters attentive. Appleby Manor itself is a delightful hotel full of old world charm. We are returning there again for my wife's birthday in October. I shall again dine in Bistro 1871 as well as sampling the gourmet restaurant at the hotel on our second night.
