This place used to be one of several Little Chef outlets dotted along the A303. It wasn't great then but had basic facilities and wa notable to my mind only for having had signs attempting to prevent Glastonbury festival goers like me from using the facilities on their way home. This time on 12th Sep 2020 we needed a break fro hot drinks, possibly a light snack and to relieve ourselves. When we parked up I noticed that mature trees had been felled and postable accomodation installed, maybe so workers can be employed on a package to avoid the minimum wage. Anyway the signs on approach suggested this was still a restaurant with toilets. With no explanation the restaurant was in fact closed and no toilets were available hence a steady flow of people to the field behind. All that was available was a poorly stocked take away hut. Very dissapointing and yes CV19 means we have to be super careful but restaurants like this can take measures as fo many others to minimse risks and actually proved a service. Bring back Little Chef!

This restaurant must be under new management( noted dreadful reviews from 2014) because we had a deliciously lovely sandwich of crispy bacon and chicken. Great tea and coffee and the most charming, courteous, helpful and smart gentlemen serving us. Food cooked to order. Open, yet for hygiene reasons I assume, totally separate, view of a spotless kitchen area. Clean aprons, shirts etc. Toilets very clean and wholesome. In short most highly recommended.

Shocking place, stopped there as Road signs said it was services. When we pulled into the car park there was a hand written sign say no walking of dogs which for a service station is rare. Having stopped to eat, fill up with fuel and use the toilets we needed to use the toilets first so we started walking directly to the toilets across the tarmac area with our dog as the car park was opposite end of toilets. We was then confronted by a very angry waiter yelling ‘You can’t walk your dog here!’ I said I wasn’t, just walking to the toilets. He kept yelling the same thing and threatened me with a £80 fine if I continued! I said he wasn’t being friendly towards customers in which he replied he didn’t care and find somewhere else! I did and he lost £20 in food and £90 in fuel. Good luck in building your business in the future. The first photo shows the hand written sign near the entrance of the cafe, second photo shows the sign on the opposite side of the area. The third photo shows the really nice place we found.

Popped by for breakfast, £11 for full breakfast with tea. Staff were really friendly, service was very fast, food was fine and the place was really clean. Cant fault it. Massive signs outside making it clear about dogs so I find it really odd that people would choose to ignore them then leave poor reviews, most of which didn't even eat here. The mind boggles ! I'm off to have a fag in the foyer of this hotel now so I can get kicked out and leave a bad review.

Excellent service - friendly and very attentive. Smart decor - obviously very recently refurbished. Toilets very clean with staff controlled access - nice touch. We only had a cuppa and a sandwich each because it was only a quick comfort break, but both were really good. Eat and Go is on the westbound side, but this is the single carriageway stretch, so no problem. Nice to use an independent business rather than a big chain outfit. Co-located with fuel and a Spar but we didn't use those.

We stopped here for breakfast and were met politely. We both ordered food which came freshly prepared and served politely. The cafe and the loos were spotless. The owner/ waiter were both polite and helpful. What amazes me is the complaints on here about dog owners. This is a food establishment we do not want stinking dogs around. They are unhygienic and carry disease. I applaud the attitude and methods of the owners. Read the bloody signs and if you have a dog, push off somewhere else.

This was somewhat of a surreal experience. After pulling in to grab a red bull and let my dog stretch her legs. My partner pointed out a signs saying no dog walking. I put the dog back in the car and as we were sitting there. The owner came storming our telling me no dog walking I said I had noticed the sign hence why I had out my dog back I'm the car. He rudely told me to acknowledge the sign i said i had hence why my dog is in the car. Once my partner returned to the car I told her what had happened. Being the diplomatic woman that she is, she promptly went in the and told him the dog was in the car and she could not understand his rude, confontational and unprofessional manner. Feeling that he hadn't been rude enough he told us to go somewhere else. DO NOT STOP HERE!!!! There is a murco garage further down the road and a burger van called Joseph's that looks far more inviting.

I travel the A303 with my family but have never stopped here before. It was an awful driving day, stop and start for hours, and I needed to stop for the toilet, and a cup of tea and to let the dog have a toilet break. As I drove in to park, my children pointed out a sign (which you couldn't miss) which said do not walk your dog here. I thought no problem, I'll let her out next to the car for a toliet break and walk her at the next stop. I parked, let the dog out for a wee next to the car and put her straight back in. As I shut the car door, I turned around to see a man in an apron coming out of the cafe shouting at me.

Have been here several times and staff always very attentive and food good quality. In response to outrage on owners stance on dogs I wish to defend. As an ex veterinary nurse I am a dog lover but not lover of owners behaving badly. Due to, not all, but a frequent number of dog owners letting their pets foul the grassed areas without picking up and removing , causing an issue to the business and other customers , the owner has felt it necessary to bring in the no dog rule. I observed these signs being ignored several times during our visit. If every visitor showed consideration and respect , this would never have been an issue. We need to support local businesses that offer more than the ' chains' and protect our choice.

A very clean restaurant with exceptionally clean toilets. very friendly staff especially Selvan Moodley. We had a great breakfast here. Heartily recommend this place as a stop on the A303. What is disconcerting is that dog owners stop here exercise their dogs let them foul the grass and do not pick up the mess and then get in their cars and go without even buying a cup of coffee in the café. hence the notices around that say dogs not welcome. I fully agree with the owner as a dog lover and ex dog owners myself. So if you have a dog and want exercise it clear up after it - please stop here say hello to Selvan have food or drink he will happily welcome you to break your journey. But while you are there watch the behaviour in the car park of other travellers ! I am sure they would not be happy if other dog owners did this on their property. My granddaughter wanted an apple juice but I was a bit reluctant to pay £2.65 for one when I knew she wouldn't drink it all. I asked the young man if they sold cartons of Ribena or similar which he said they didn't but the garage next door did. I asked if that would be ok to give her in the restaurant and he said it was fine. Then took my granddaughter for a nappy chang and the toilet was spotlessly clean. We then enjoyed one of the cheesiest toasties I've ever had. It was lovely. Heard one man say he had the best breakfast he'd had in a long time.

In all fairness they no longer represent what we experienced only six hours ago. The restaurant was perfectly clean, the ‘infamous’ toilets so oft mentioned were spotlessly clean and the staff very polite and helpful (overseen by the much mentioned ‘rude boss/owner) who himself was equally as helpful and accommodating ( I had a complaint about my latte which he gladly rectified straight away without rancour or attitude). It may have been so in the past but on our experience today it is now longer the ‘pit of despair’ so often written of. We hoped to stop for refreshments during our drive from Cornwall to London. When we first arrived we missed the “no dogs...” sign and proceeded to lift our puppy and young child out of the car. The owner instantly came out and told us that no dogs were allowed on site. When my husband politely asked if we could let the dog stretch his legs and do his business he explained that because other customers had been “bad customers” he couldn’t let us. I showed him that we had dog poo bags and asked if I could at least take my son to get food and drink, he told me that that was my “own choice”’but that the dog wasn’t allowed in. At this point I was rather frustrated and challenged him again asking why he couldn’t let me help my child go to the bathroom and get food while also dealing with my puppy and he told me that I was a “bad customer”.

Toilets are accessed by the staff using a key fob which was done with the minimum fuss - I certainly didn’t feel uncomfortable about this and can see their point as parking is not that plentiful and if people just stop off to use the facilities, paying customers cannot park. Not many places to stop to eat on the A303 so perhaps this is why the owners are missing on customer service. Just because you are desperate to stop and eat doesn’t mean you can accept shoddy service. Firstly half the car park is closed “so it can be cleaned” really! Secondly, if you mess up an order don’t shrug and smile, offer a discount or free drinks. “ Are you newly opened?” one customer asked hoping for an explanation for the service “ no we’ve been here six years” well at least the pannini was tasty.

I know some people have issues with these services not being dog friendly but I fully understand the fact that he’s trying to keep his establishment clean and hygienic which I applaud. I also think that only allowing paying customers to use the toilets is right. There are public ones attached to the next door garage. The staff have kept the loos very clean so again I can understand their restricting the use to those who eat or drink in the establishment. This used to be a Little Chef a few years ago. We stopped as we had a baby to feed. Its a very bland layout with odd staff. The menus weren't worth leaving out as they were 'operating on a restricted menu until further notice'. This was a very un-inspiring peice of A4 paper. We had a sandwich and the strangest scampi id ever seen or tasted. The chips were hard and tasteless. The peas had been microwaved until they were dried out and hard empty shells, again they were tasteless. I noticed food being sent back to the kitchen several times. The owner / 'chef' was constantly running around like a headless chicken, weird as there were only 5 or so tables occupied. Lots of people being turned away from using the toilets if they wern't ordering food. The toilets, although recently refurbed were smelly and dirty, so theres no excuse if every passing motorist isn't using them, but they can't as they're security locked and you have to be buzzed in! I get the impression that they are out of their depth and really not suited to running this kind of business. As we left the owner locked the door and started turning people away as he'd clearly had enough pressure for the day, it was only around 4pm... the food is really poor quality and they clearly don't know what they're doing. Also take note they don't have any highchairs!?.. apparently they had a fire recently. Why not just buy some more? It's the first place i've visited that hasn't had any. Also didn't appreciate the owner shouting out 'oh sh*t' from the open kitchen behind us as we sat waiting for our order. One of the strangest places i've ever stopped at. Utterly terrible. Do not go here. The manager refused access unless we agreed to order over ten pounds, to use the baby changing facilities. Incredulous, we left. My wife is also 6 months pregnant... horrid place. It was empty as well! Unsurprisingly...

Having had a long day on the road we popped into this roadside café for lunch. Wished we hadn't.This used to be a Little Chef but obviously re-opened as Eat and Go under different management. First impressions were empty (it was lunchtime mid week and no one else in side apart from 3 staff which included the manager and a rather scruffy chef.On taken to a table and given a menu we were asked if we wanted a drink. I ordered tea and this turned up in a small teapot and with milk and very small cup. The cup had seen better days but was clean. The tea was stewed as soon as it arrived so presume it was either from a large urn or had sat around waiting new customer. Not a good start. We then got rushed to order (especially as they were so busy with all the clients - or yeh! none). I ordered what was advertised as a 3 egg freshly cooked omelette, with ham (i.e a ham omelette). this meant to come with toast but was told on request I could swop for fried. On food arriving first impression were I had ordered from the kids menu, tiny portion. Worse to come. Fresh 3 egg omelette was a bland single microwave pre cooked omelette obviously straight from the freezer then microwaved up, and the added ham was a simple slice of ham rested on the folded omelette. Was hot though - power of the microwave. How difficult is it to cook a fresh omelette (basic cooking).Chips were about 12 in number and overcooked and blandGarnish was a poorly cooked tomato. This cost over £6!!Colleagues - freshly cooked chicken pieces again looked microwaved and dry and were bland, but he did have more chips (though bland and overcooked). To access the toilets we had to find a member of staff to open the toilets as they are security locked - why as they are not nice and cant imagine anyone really wanting to use.Paid and made our excuses to leave as soon as possible.Never again and would not recommend this place at all!!

We stopped here today to feed are 5 month old little boy. As a restaurant you would of thought that they would be under standing about babies!. I asked to fill my sons Baby Bottle up with 3 oz of Hot Water.. The poor chap on till turned to whom I think was the boss, to then be told I had to pay £1.00 for the water!!!!! I said its for a baby, but no. I then walked 10 yards to the petrol station and filled it up for FREE at the vending machine. As I was walking back to my car the man whom told me to pay for water was giving me a very nerving look out of the window of the restaurant. DO NOT STOP HERE IF YOU NEED TO FEED OR CHANGE YOUR BABY....

The owner and his staff appear to have a great attitude and make you feel wanted upon entry. But today they must of been having an off day. My Latte was warm not hot and my Steak and Ale Pie had cold areas. It's not the errors that we should look at, but how they are rectified. The chef immediately apologised and made a fresh meal, I was given fresh cutlery and an immediate apology was made by the owner and the chef. The owner assures me that the pies will be returned as to cook the insides, it needs to be over cooked which ruins the pastry which is far too thick. He also assure that the lattes will be looked at. I wasn't offered a discount and being to British to ask.. I find this a little poor. However it's a busy restaurant and the owners tells me the food quality is normally perfect. I hope they can improve their food quality from today. If I ever stop here again, I will stick with breakfast food. Although I'll likely use the much cheaper Willoughby Cafe for breakfast foods. So in short. I'm pleased with the immediate action, but not with the final result. You make your own choice.

Halfway on our trip, we popped in here. It was the very old little chef which has been open now for about two years having been closed for about five. Good car park, friendly staff, tables a bit tired but it was clean. Order taken and the snack we ordered arrived soon afterwards. In all a good experience. Well done.

Wow... what an experience we have had today.En route back to Hampshire with my husband and 8 month baby, we needed to stop to change the little ones naooy. I recalled a service station close by but remembered that when I had stopped there a number of years before (pre baby!) that the facilities were rather dire. Being in quite a desperate mode and with the prospect of another few hours travel ahead of us, we made the decision to stop and ask the restaurant if they would kindly let us change our baby, especially considering that the public conveniences were so squalid. The unhelpful, uncooperative, inconsiderate, Uncompromising 'boss' would not allow us to change our baby unless we were having a sit down meal. With a polystyrene cup of tea costing an extortionate £2.25, the restaurant filthy, and utter rudeness if the boss, we decided against staying. The poor staff seemed terrified of this monstrosity if a man. Utterly disgraceful. Our poor baby (who, incidentally, was very poorly) was the one not granted a basic human right - my husband and I are very reasonable let, calm people, it this has made our blood boil. The whole experience was desperately negative and we would urge anyone to boycott this overpriced vile establishment until basic humanitarian needs are met --- be nice to your staff and customers, treat people,e respectfully and have the decency to provide clean and working facilities to some desperate customers who are willing to pay the extortionate amounts charged for the 'convenience'. Appalling experience - is there an authority/watchdog I can write to to take this matter further? We have been insensed by it.

Eat & Go isn't the most attractive looking pit stop but as I needed fuel and a pee....I decided not to be put off by the "Customers Use Only"signs for the toilet - I guess in the current economic climate that's understandable. Anyway, with some trepidation I ordered a jacket potato with Coronation chicken and a cup of tea before disappearing to the loo.Upon my return both food and drink were awaiting me . The Coronation chicken was not only first class (& Im a bit of an expert) but plentiful. The potato had a pat of real butter and was perfectly cooked with a crunchy skin. It came with a fresh side salad with very tasty dressing on the side. Much nicer than I expected - & my Yorkshire tea was fine too. So,moral of this review is don't be put off by appearances. The place is rather tired but clean, which is really all that counts. Will be back!

This is a positive review on the basis that you like a fairly decent all day breakfast...Having previously stopped at this location when it was Little Chef on occasional journeys back from Cornwall to London, we stopped coming here when the premises changed. Having been disappointed with the Little Chefs before and after Chicklade we finally decided to give Eat & Go a try, as it is a convenient stopping point. We were pleasantly surprised that the food was better than expected - the menu is not dissimilar to that of Little Chef and the Early Riser and Eat and Go breakfasts were both fine, if that is the sort of thing you are after. The coffees were good and the staff friendly. This seems to be an independent operation and the staff are obviously working hard to make a success of it. Some aspects of the interior have seen better days (eg the tables) but we are happy to reinstate this as our regular stopping point in future.

We have stopped at this service station twice. On 21 August we stopped for lunch while travelling to our holiday destination, which was one of the best service station lunches we have had and and for breakfast on the way back a week later, and again, an excellent breakfast. It is a shame there is no roadside signage before you get there as the restaurant is set back from the roadside, behind the service station and so is easily missed.

I had stopped here many years ago and it was a great little stop but im guessing it has changed hands. The experience we had this time was just terrible... first of all we entered and was asked what we wanted so we obviously replied table for two for food! We got told to sit there (by the manager/owner i guess)!! In an abrupt manner which already made us feel uneasy! Before we had even had chance to look at the menu the waiter (the guy with lots of tattoos) came over to ask what we wanted! I tried to enquire about the soup, he said it was pretty runny while he screwed up his face at it, so I thought I would go for something safer and went for a prawn panini and my partner went for a tuna wrap and we shared some cheesy chips! Well.... my panini had three prawns in it with heaps of mayo, my partner's wrap had pretty much mayo with a hint of tuna and the cheesy chips came in one concealed lump that looked and tested like it had been sat under a hot lamp for the last four hours and we were then expected to it eat it all without any cutlery until I went up to ask for it!!! There were no apologies to anyone for the duration neither! And bearing in mind that they had locked us all in the building to stop other people coming in (which was also the fire exit i would like to add) i didnt feel comfortable complaining so we paid, and went to the petrol station to buy some strong flavoured sweets to get the taste out of our mouths! We will definitely not be returning there again and would advise many more to not visit either!

We stopped here with our two year old for lunch, There was a massive sign on the way in about toilets only being for customers, we laughed about it ... when we went through the restaurant door there was another sign that toilets were only for customers. We were greeted and shown to a seat, the 'restaurant' is very tired and run down, and not particularly clean, and felt very dingy like some of the lighting was out. We looked at the menu and couldn't see kids options so we asked a man stood in an apron who we quickly realised didn't speak any english and couldn't understand us. The 'greeter/manager' came back, we asked for the children's menu but he said they don't do one??!!??? this place sells chips, beans, egg, sausage ... why can't that be on a kids menu? We ordered sausage sandwiches and a portion of cheesy chips for our daughter, The food came out and 5 minutes later the chips came out .. cue unhappy 2 yr old ... the chips had no cheese, we asked about it and they took them away and discussed it for a while before microwaving the hell out of them, they returned and commented that they didn't think we'd ordered cheese .... (why it mattered god only knows, it's not like you pay up front, just change the bill), It took another 10 minutes to cool the chips down by cutting the open and putting them on a separate plate, enough to be able to eat them, it was ridiculous, all she wanted was some cheese sprinkled on top. The sausage sandwiches were ok, very basic cheap bread and cheap sausages very overpriced. All the while this was going on the staff were far more interested in the Formula one, on the big screen, or turning away customers who wanted just drinks, or opening the toilets for paying customers. ..... which brings us on to the most unfathomable part of the whole thing, there are massive signs everywhere saying you can't use the toilets, and you can't get in the place unless you are promising to eat food and have been shown to a table .... so why the hell are toilets locked .. perhaps the marble floor and luxury loos have to be looked after? Wrong .. the toilets are old, not clean, broken wall tiles, no paper in the dispensers only toilet rolls on the side, it's just someone's bizzare bit of control. We were very pleased to leave, and on the way out we both commented how we didn't like the atmosphere at all. As others have said, it is definitely being run for the convenience of staff with no care what so ever for customer service.

After a previously awful experience we passed many Little Chef restaurants before stopping here. We were greeted by a pleasant chap who showed us to our table and took our drinks order within 5 minutes. We ordered two breakfasts and our girls (4 & 6) chose egg on toast. The food came quickly and was very nice. The breakfast was what you'd expect from a road side diner but it wasn't dripping in fat or greasy and tasted good. We all used the toilet whilst we were there and found them to be clean and did not smell (unlike the little chef ones we'd been in previously). We had no issues with the table or cutlery being dirty and I watched them spray and clean the tables after people left so, in our experience, the place was not dirty in the slightest.

Having read other reviews I can only say they don't match ours. Its obviously a little tired and run down former 'little chef' but we were welcomed and shown a table by a nice lady. The food was freshly cooked and hot, its basic Little Chef style (think what little chef was like 25 years ago and you're there). My full breakfast was an excellent 'greasy spoon' one. Coffee was good and the rest of the family enjoyed their meals too.Judging by the other reviews I guess it was the rude manager's day off as the restaurant was full and people were still coming in. As for the toilet policy, there was always a member of staff on hand to open the door for you. I guess they want people to spend money and not pop in for the loo and go elsewhere. Guess this policy is not to everyone's liking but if you're there to eat then its no problem.

There is a good transport cafe menu and the full English is gigantic: Excellent bacon, eggs, fried bread and fresh, rather than tinned tomatoes, sausage, mushrooms, saute potatoes and beans; all served quickly and with a smile. If you want a top start to the day, I would recommend stopping here.

Walked into the door, as soon as I did I was pounced upon by the rude manager/owner. I tried to explain we were coming back but there were two of us who both needed the toilet and I had a baby in the car that was on her way in. He told me I had to order before I used the loo so I said I would order drinks then food when I was joined by my mum and baby. He said tea and coffee next door in the garage and use the outside toilets. It's a shame, we used to stop here a lot when it was a little chef as we do the Devon to Kent run quite a lot. Won't make this mistake again though. He was rude and abrupt. I interrupted him and his cook watching cricket so it's not like they were so busy they can afford to turn away customers.Needless to say we won't be stopping there again and it's his loss because we are now half a mile up the road at the little chef eating and drinking in a busy restaurant while he is no doubt still sat watching the cricket in his empty cafe

After a tiring and long journey on our way to Devon, we stopped at this place, which used to hold happy memories when it was a Little Chef. The manager was turning people away if they only wanted drinks, sending them to the garage shop, rather than allowing them to sit and relax with drinks and snacks. We ordered meals which were average and served without a smile. The restaurant is tired, old fashioned and uncomfortable. The toilet has to be opened for anyone wanting to use it to avoid unwelcomed non paying customers using it. The whole concept lacks customer service and is all about the manager's needs, not the customers. The lady serving in the garage shape was the polar opposite to the manager of the restaurant. She was happy, friendly, helpful and welcoming. Avoid the restaurant and get a sandwich and drink from the shop!

I was shocked that I had to have the toilets unlocked for me....there was only one other customer! A woman with a baby came in and asked if she would be able to feed her baby. The response was quite rude....'This is a sit down restaurant' and unsympathetic. Eventually she agreed to buy a cup of tea and was 'allowed' to sit in the almost empty restaurant to feed the baby. The service that we had was polite and efficient but the atmosphere was not relaxed and I would not return.
