East West Restaurant in Woking

A group of eleven club members met at this small, but very pleasant, restaurant which we remembered from a previous incarnation. How it has improved! After a warm greeting from the staff (note here that the venue had sufficient staff for the packed house - that’s definitely not always the case for large bookings elsewhere), our orders were taken and we settled in to drinks and conversation. The restaurant is nicely decorated, with a full bar service available. Our food arrived quickly, and it was immediately obvious that we were in for a treat. Served on high quality crockery, the meals smelled delicious and the portions sizes were very generous. The main meals were just as described on the menu, with tasty side dishes and bread to accompany them. Overall, a good restaurant with a nice range of standard and ‘special’ dishes on the menu. The food was delivered quickly and was tasty and reasonably priced. GW

The service and the food was amazing have been before and is our only choice to eat in when we want to go out for an Asian meal. It has an excellent range in menu and we love it. They really should be one of the top rated Indian restaurants in Surrey. Have been to a great number of them in my time and I always love to come back here.

Lovely little Indian restaurant. Gurka dishes too. Pleasant attentive staff. I’ll certainly be adding this restaurant to my list of favourites.

We ordered a takeaway via Uber, and I specifically asked for my chicken Dhansak curry to be mild (no other restaurant have had a problem with this before), but it was so spicy that I couldn’t eat it! The onion bhajis were dry and not very flavoursome, and even the garlic naan lacked flavour. Not impressed.

This is our local takeaway since moving to the area in May Have had lovely food every time, and along with great customer service why go anywhere else! Food is always hot, tasty and the correct order Would definitely recommend Mark

We placed a telephone order to collect. Ordered the meal for 2 people which include popadoms, onion bhaji, 2 meals rice, nan and bombay potatoes. Told it would be 25 minutes, which we thought was quick. Portions were ample, we ordered from the regular curries got medium spice. I like a bit more spice to my curry so it was a touch bland for me and would go for something fairly hot next time. Would try it again but a different dish. My husband says the restaurant area looked nice inside and would be willing to try it for eat-in in when reopens.

As a previous customer we decided to order a takeaway to be delivered from here. It was New Years Eve so we expected it to be busy and ordered at 6.40pm. We were told it would be 1 hour 10 minutes which reflects how busy they were. After 2 hours nothing had arrived so I phoned to follow up and was told they would get the order out soon and they hung up. I called back and tried to clarify an estimated time and the phone went down again. I called back and cancelled the order. I can imagine how busy they were but the lack of customer service and attitude was disappointing. I see that others have previously complained about slow service so it’s not a one off. I understand that sometimes things go wrong but it’s how you deal with it that is the test!

We visit this restaurant or order takeaway fairly often. The food is excellent as is the welcome & service. There are mid week eat in specials which are really good value without compromising on quality or choice.

First of all it took well over an hour and 20 minutes for our takeaway to arrive. There were four of us. One item didn’t arrive. We ordered a prawn puri which sadly contained only 10 small prawns. As we were discussing our disappointment my wife noticed what she thought was a hair in her food. Unfortunately it wasn’t a hair but a three inch long piece of wire. It looked like it had come from a wire scourer. Telephoned the restaurant and the gentleman offered us a £15 refund. Bill was over £60. It was either accept the refund and try the rest of the food or get them to pick the food up and take it away. We decided to take a chance. No more foreign objects found and food was slightly better than average.Possibly a one off piece of wire and we were unlucky. It’s up to you!

From our 'go to' Indian to our 'not going to again Indian'. The reason that they got 2 stars was because the food is lovely. But it's not enough to exonerate the place. That being said, tonight it took almost an hour and a half to receive our order. The order was missing an item and was cold when it arrived. The chap I spoke to was less than helpful about the missing meal (Kids korma and rice) and told me to use Uber eats to get a refund. We wanted Indian take out so we didn't need to cook after a stressful day, having received a family bereavement. This added to our stresses and cemented the fact we'll no longer he supporting this business!

The food here is good, I enjoyed that, but the service .... oh my god no. They were awful. We booked 2 weeks in advance and confirmed it twice before the date, yet when we turned up they’d not set up any tables and stated their “back room” where they usually hold events was now a storage space and we couldn’t use it, despite them booking it for us. They were more concerned with their phones than with us, had absolutely no care in checking on us, I had to ask for cutlery and to order, it wasn’t a case of them coming to us. It’s a shame because the food is nice, but the service is shocking, it ruined the evening.

I have been to East West Restaurant many times and have always received good service in enjoyable surroundings. We have also had takeaways delivered on numerous occasions. I had booked a table for three some days in advance but when we arrived there on Thursday 3rd September there were no tables laid up, two waiters were on duty and the brown Formica tables gave the appearance of a roadside cafe! No table cloths, no silver no table decoration and definitely no atmosphere! The service was poor, both waiters were more interested in their mobile phones than keeping us happy. There was only one other table occupied so it wasn’t busy. The general appearance of the place had deteriorated, for example there was an electrical plug at the entrance just hanging off the wall, that has to be dangerous. it looked run down. I am sad to have to write this report because this has always been on of my favourite places to eat. The food when we eventually got served was good but the the evening was not a success.

Another Friday night with a taste for a curry ! We checked out the local options online as we don't live here - East -West came up trumps with fast service and good quality food, plenty of flavour and all very freshly prepared.

We ordered a takeaway from here for something different during lockdown. The food came still very hot and it was very tasty, the bread was very light and the food was not oily and full of flavour, will be coming back again

I am 40 weeks pregnant and wanted to order a spicy dish. I ordered one dish and they said 45 minutes which was already quite long. It’s been an hour and 10 minutes and it’s STILL not here. Then when I called and asked how long he said “5 minutes” then hung up without apologising or anything. Let’s hope the food isn’t cold and is of good quality.

I live in the area and really want this place to be great, and it is getting better. Portions are quite small for the price and a bit inconsistent in size between different days. The curries probably need to have 2-3 more pieces of meat in them and sides need to be a bit bigger. Poppadoms and chutney trays are excellent. Service is great. Mild curries could have more flavour - we always tend to go for spicier than we normally pick to balance this out, 2-3 chilli marks from menu. Decor is really comfortable and classy. 4 stars but a few extra tweaks and it could be really amazing

The decor and atmosphere were a huge step up from my previous visit when the restaurant was called the Mogul. The service friendly and attentive and the choice of food very good. We went for the special weekday selection of a starter, main, rice and side although for some reason it only included 1 rice and 1 side and although very tasty didn't seem as good value as first assumed. We also had 2 coffees 2 poppadoms 2 waters and one beer which added an extra 24 pounds to the bill, obviously where they make up the money. All in all a nice meal, but too expensive to make the visit more than very occasional.

I ordered a curry from here a couple of weeks ago on Friday evening. It was the worst curry I’ve ever had. The keema naan had no meat in it. The lamb curry was completely inedible and after offering the restaurant to return it, so they could see what our complaint was (they refused) it was all binned. The other curry was completely tasteless. The rice was that awful stuff with the multi coloured strands, not natural. The most awful, disgusting curry I have ever had. The after care was even worse though. We called the restaurant to let them know of the issues, and they wouldn’t speak to us. They kept saying the manager would return our call, but almost three weeks later we’ve heard nothing. In this time I have also emailed them twice. On the evening of the issue during one very brief exchange, they said they would refund the money.... funnily enough this has never ever materialised. I would avoid this curry house like the plague.

Been visiting the Indian restaurants on this exact sitefor 35 years. East West’s predecessor was called The Mogul, and it was once excellent, before tailing off and shutting down. Last week I visited its replacement East West for the first time, and I enjoyed it. They have reintroduced tablecloths and proper napkins, and the menu has lots of mouth-watering choices. They’ve also redecorated the restaurant quite nicely - although it’s still damp in places and there were snail trails on the carpet behind my seat. Food, on the whole, was a little bland. Dahl should be made with lentils but was made with chick peas. Sauces were middle-of-the-road. Service was fine, but bog standard. The usual assortment of superfluous fake flower vases and salt and pepper cellars was hastily shoved out the way in an anxious fashion when the food arrived.Enjoyed the chicken pakora starter, and the naans were done to perfection - if agonisingly small. Will be back to give it a second try soon.

From the pleasant greeting on arrival, to the moment we left we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Poppadums very quickly served along with the usual sides of which there was plenty, I chose the Ghurka Curry which was full of flavour. Added to my go again list

...unless you've never eaten food. We live down the road, had a poor meal once. Gave it another chance, terrible 1/6 meals acceptable. Sides are poor. Pickles for popadoms are out of this world, not in a good way. Food that colour has an E number.Un-fresh, not tasty, not Indian. I wish I'd cooked

We have visited three times and each visit has been a winner. The food is the talking point, my favourite in the area by far. Menu has classic favourites plus EastWest specialities, making up a geographically broad curry menu. We had paneer tikka, outstanding, and Dehli Mixed Sizzle, which had a very nice dark and spicy sauce. The condiments all very fresh and just how I like it with onions cut very fine. Also important, the decor is contemporary and peaceful. For a tiny village location, this place is usually packed.

Now over the years this place has gone up and down but currently for an eat in meal they are superb, second Friday evening boy's meal we have had and the food is superb, service great and price not too bad, I strongly recommend them.

Visited for the first time since it changed to East West. Service was excellent, friendly, helpful and attentive. We shared the vegetable special platter to start, mains - Kalia Goan Gost and a Signature fish curry (can't remember the name) both were very tasty and would recommend. We asked for our naan to be thin and well cooked, it came out perfect.

Last night we made the mistake of ordering from Eastwest for our takeway.

First few times we used East West for take away we were impressed. It has gradually been going downhill though in delivery service and has turned into a lucky dip as to what you get. Had the completely wrong order delivered, then subsequent times there is always something missing. Chutney but no poppadoms or vice versa. Tonight no naan, slow delivery and mediocre cold food. Not impressed so will be giving a wide berth as it's so disappointing to wait a long time then have an incomplete order despite being charged full amount.

I must say that I have had some good meals in the restaurant . However tonight I had one of the worst takeaways I have ever had . The food had absolutely no flavour and the keena man had no meat in it . My byriani had not much rice and my husbands sinature dish was very bland . I really felt disappointed . What about having g pride in your cooking East West . Just because we are English we still know what a good curry tasted like !

The staff are very friendly, the facelift makes all the difference as the place is now very light and welcoming. Lovely comfortable furniture.

I love the food here! It really is so good! Great menu choices, lovely staff and reasonably priced. This place is my favourite and I’m gutted I didn’t find it sooner!

We visited this Restaurant yesterday as our favourite Indian suddenly shut down.

Excellent meal, very flavoursome food. I find the tikka masala here a little mild so went for the balti this time which was very good indeed. Friendly staff, excellent service. A few different items on the menu which is always nice to see.

Out for a mid-week date night, bit of a treat for us actually.

Having driven past this restaurant on several occasions, this week we decided to visit this establishment . As soon as we went in we were made to feel very welcome and the service was exceptional without being intrusive. The food we chose was beautifully prepared and tasted delicious. On our second visit yesterday we where recognised straight away and was warmly welcomed. We wanted to try some some new dishes and was adviced about what to order according to our taste. We’ve been a couple of times now to the new restaurant since it opened and have been delighted by both the food and service. It’s fast becoming a family favourite. The staff go out if their way to talk to my young son and make him feel welcome - they even make for him a special lasse drink on request too. We thoroughly recommend a visit.

Have had a couple of delicious takeaways over the past few months so decided to eat in the restaurant on my husband’s birthday. We certainly made the right choice - attentive service, friendly staff, great atmosphere and superb food. So glad we have this as our local ...... try it - it’s great.

Had a superb meal at this great restaurant this evening. We loved the Nepalese Gurkhali dish we had which was deliciously spicy. Staff are so helpful and friendly making you feel very welcome. Good food at reasonable prices - we look forward to returning very soon

Service is good and food is even better

We have visited this curry house 3 times and it has been consistently good. The food is freshly cooked and so takes a while to arrive but when it does it is excellent!

This restaurant never fails to impress. The food is always delicious and offers a varied menu. The staff have always been very friendly and help to make your visit special. We have used the take away service many times and never been disappointed. Great place to eat and highly recommended.

My hubby and I took both Mums for a meal here last night and all of us had a fantastic experience.

Had a great meal last night. Waiter gave suggestion on menu choice as I couldn't decide what to eat as there was so much choice - I took his advice and it was delicious and as I don't drink coffee they made me an excellent pot of spicy Chai.

The food we ordered was very good indeed (but we are not in a position to judge if it is "authentic" - not intended as a criticism) and we all enjoyed our visit, and agreed we will return and try other dishes on the menu. The staff were pleasant, friendly and efficient, and the ambience was pleasing. Good value for money.

Have eaten at the East sweat several times now, always excellent.

A curry house with a difference. Food was excellent and a bit different, even the sweets were not completely the standard fare. Very popular, good atmosphere, plus the staff went the extra mile to make sure you enjoyed the experience. Wait was a little bit longer than your average Indian restaurant but I took that as a good sign that it was being cooked not microwaved. Will definitely be coming back.

Really impressive new decoration. Excellent food with friendly service. Had some unique dishes. Never seen in any other Indian restaurant.

This restaurant has recently changed owners and been refurbished. It's a massive improvement.

Shocking service - food never arrived. When I phoned to enquire, I was told food was delivered 45 minutes ago. Except that it wasn’t. I was called a liar and refused a refund....eventually got through to the manager who told me to call at 5pm the next day because he was too busy to help. I don't think we will even get a refund and we never did get our order. DO NOT ORDER FROM HERE!

I have eaten here twice now over the past 6 weeks. New owners and staff, which are friendly and attentive, and nice decor. But unlike the previous owners, the menu is pretty much the standard Indian menu that you get everywhere. The food is average quality at best, with the sauces I find thin and oily, and lack flavour. Disappointing. The previous restaurant (Mogul) was a far better experience, it is a shame they left.

Recently refurbished - good menu - good food - good drinks - friendly staff - recommend it - well worth a visit

Far better restaurant now that it is under new ownership, however I feel there is work still to do, you make your mind up, four of us went for a celebration meal last night, the waiters were attentive and happy and we were made very welcome. we are not big people, the chairs are very comfortable but the tables are very small, with a bottle of wine, four glasses and some water on the table, there was only just enough room for the popadums and chutneys, during the meal we had to keep putting things on the next table, to accommodate our food and wine, lucky it was empty. the main courses arrived after a very long wait, the ordered "lamb" pasander turned out to be "chicken" the lamb dish I ordered was supposed to be a fairly hot dish as indicated in the menu by two "chillies" a special "not to be missed" dish, Frankly i wished i had. It was totally bland, not very tasty and very mild, had I have been blindfolded I would not have known this was Indian food at all, the other dishes were all tasty and enjoyable, although the table was overflowing with dishes, we enjoyed the experiance, we arrived at seven o clock and left at ten, so this is not a fast food establishment, Overall we had a nice evening, one dish was wrong, one dish was totally bland and very mild when it should have been hot, the other two dishes were enjoyable, the service is slow, the tables are small, but the decor is inviting and fresh, and the waiters are nice, but with several other good Indian restaurants within a mile, I really feel that they must try harder if they are going to compete with the competition and gain a good reputation, to be fair they offered a small refund on the £130 bill and a complimentary drink. I will return and try them again sometime, but in the meantime my money will be flowing elsewhere.

I attended the restaurant tonight for a family 60th birthday. I was told that it had recently been taken over.

This was out first time visiting this restaurant and as much as the food was ok the service was incredibly disappointing we had the wait 45 minutes to order our starter which then took a long time to arrive, we didn't have to wait too long for our mains which were nice but it then took a further 50 minutes after finishing and asking for it to receive our bill, unfortunately we were not the only ones complaining about the time it was taking. Overall a disappointing experience and we are unlikely to go back
