Popped in for a light lunch, I was greeted with a warm welcome ( as always ) food was hearty and plentiful. My cornbeef pie ( & chips ) was delicious, plenty of filling and I presume homemade. It certainly hits the spot ! Although very filling I made sure to leave room for a cheery & white chocolate scone ( to die for ) Great value and a nice catch up for myself and friends b4 we browsed the attached garden centre . Highly recommended

Staff member so rude to us. Terrible attitude Quite upsetting as we had my 89 year old auntie with us. This staff member had a long face when we were ordering. Ordered three drinks , they arrived with a cup short. Asked her for another cup. She said she’d brought it. I went back to our table just to check I hadn’t been mistaken , went back to the counter to tell her we didn’t have the cup. She then marched down the cafe to our table to look and said I had ordered two drinks not three. I told her again what I’d asked for but she wasn’t having it and said it was another 50p for hot water.( as there was a hot water in our order we thought she needed us to pay for it) I went to the counter to pay and she said it was 70p for hot water. I went back to our table for another 20p. She marched past me with another cup of hot water! All I wanted was an empty cup.! Because she was arguing and talking over me she clearly didn’t know that’s all I wanted. We go to lots of cafes and she is the rudest person we’ve come across which has led me to leave a review today. Leaving reviews is not something I do. I asked her if she was having a bad day because we found her very rude, but she talked back over me. We have been here before and I do have to mention some of the staff can be off hand. Not enough that’s made me leave a review previously.

I have been meeting friends here for several years, both for coffee and for lunch, and have found the staff welcoming and the food tasty. I do have a complaint, however, and that concerns the very poor state of the toilets. I need to use them as I travel a distance to meet my friends, but I am loath to do so. The floors look like they need scrubbing, the pedal bins are covered in rust marks. The fitted soap dispensers haven’t worked for months and the replacement hand wash was missing its pump top on my last visit. The disabled toilet flush is operated by an old piece of string, very hygienic, and I definitely wouldn’t want to use the baby changing mat. Whoever is responsible for the cleanliness of these toilets should be ashamed! Come on Herbs, you can do so much better.

We love the plant centre and cafe and the food is always good. Staff are excellent as well. BUT if you sit in the dog friendly area of the cafe during the winter it is freezing. One barely lit small wood burner for two rooms. We’re not going back until the weather improves.

Totally ignored when we went to the counter and at least 6 people working and looking at us. Absolutely no acknowledgment from any one of them. A nod of the head and I'll be there in a minute was all we needed. After 5 minutes I said 'excuse me' still no response. We must be invisible I thought. The very tall lady who talked to us in the end needs her money back from the charm school. We then turned around and left for Seaton Sluice Harbour View chip restaurant. The difference in staff greetings was amazing. The lady in the garden centre shop was charming.

We have been going to this cafe for years but todays fiasco was the last straw so never again. We came for lunch today after a shopping trip. It was quite busy but there were still a few tables. Ordered at the counter then we waited about 15 minutes for our drinks to arrive - no milk with the pot of tea so had to share hubby's hot milk that was for his coffee! After another 30 minutes our food finally arrived so a total of 45 minutes spent waiting and our drinks finished ages ago. We commented that we had almost given up waiting but no apology was forthcoming, not even an "enjoy your meal" Hubby's usual order of mince pie chips and salad had a strange side salad of tomato, sweetcorn and red onion, no lettuce or peppers! My chicken bacon mayo sandwich looked nice, a generous serving but when I tried it the taste was odd and when I turned it over the bread was covered in something bright yellow with a strong smell like mustard. I took it back to the counter and the waitress said it looked like coronation chicken as if the same knife had been used to make different sandwiches and then wiped on my bread!!! Not very hygienic ... She offered to get me another one and a free cup of tea. Needless to say hubby was finished his lunch when mine arrived again with no apology whatsoever. There is really no excuse for such poor service.

What a terrible experience we had on our latest visit we have been here before and couldn’t fault it. This time was terrible we were told to sit down at a table, the table was dirty and sticky so we got our own wipes out and cleaned the tables and our chairs. On watching staff once some customers left they just wiped the table None of your staff wiped down the chairs this is a disgrace. We had to get up and go and find a menu which a member of staff shouted at my friend for doing that. We sat for 20 mins with menus before a member of staff came. She didn’t even have a visor or mask on and said what do you want there were two of us and I said we wanted to pay separately which she was annoyed about and said can we not sort it out ourselves afterwards as it’s so confusing for Her. Our food came it wasn’t the best look warm food and wilted salad. There was no hand gel when you came out of toilet or as you come into building. We will not be coming back very very poor and staff just don’t seem friendly they all looked miserable not a place to visit.

Visited today with a friend and very concerned about lack of hygiene by a staff member. A couple came in with a dog and this particular member of staff clearly loves dogs so she gave the dog lots of attention and cuddles. It was when she allowed the dog to slobber all over her hands and then proceed to clear tables, take people's orders that I was disgusted. I have no objection to dogs being allowed in a cafe but this staff member clearly needs training regarding normal hygiene practice. One would think that at this particular time given covid that good hygiene would be given top priority. This would put us off visiting here again.

Dreadful rude unpleasant staff. We have been going there since it opened but I’m afraid I’m throwing in the towel - Lisa- the owner needs to be there more often to see how her staff are treating customers. They are rude, obnoxious and disrespectful. My mum - who is in her 80s now takes her own butter to put on her baked potato because when she asked for another one they threw it at her and then bitched to each other in front of me and the line about her. She went with her church group and the waitress yelled at a ninety year old deaf lady in front of 10 other customers and made her feel very foolish. The are LOTS of places with good food in the are and Lisa has become complacent with her client base- give them some training or show them the door before you have no customers left. It’s basic customer service- don’t throw packets of sugar at your clients, don’t belittle them and give them what they need. A satisfied customer tells 3 people a dissatisfied one tells 10. I don’t write this review lightly and it breaks my heart to have to do it but when you wake up and there the no customers it will be too late. They don’t deserve you or your loyalty it’s your business. The grey pound is very profitable and deserves to be treated with respect

Alas mine was not so I had mince pie, chips and salad and the pie had been microwaved which I hate as it goes soggy I like crisp crusty pastry (note to self if I ever have it again I will ask for it cold if it’s been out of oven for a while). The service and the attitude of the staff was excellent and the whole place was spacious and comfortable. I would have given it the top marks but for the fact that there was nothing on the menu but the well-tested and standard offerings which, while beautifully cooked and presented, were a bit routine & unadventurous - but clearly what they know is popular and appealing for their clients - well, most of them - has been included and well-tested. The food is really delicious and such a good choice. Will definitely go back. However it is hidden away and I think the signs should be a bit bigger!

Always busy selling a wide range of home cooked food. They serve full home cooked meals or lighter bites like sandwiches, quiches, scones and a variety of cakes. It has been e tended so always guaranteed a seat and nice to sit outdoors on a dry day.

The food was lovely and presented in a timely fashion. The portions were very decent. The environment in the winter months is very cosy.

Had never been able to eat here before as it was always full so we'd heard they'd extended the restaurant. So we called in to try out the produce. A neighbour had recommended the breakfasts but we both went for the homemade pie. Food was served reasonably quickly and all freshly prepared. It was clear even the hand cut chips were freshly made. A little gem just up the road from us so we will be back. Staff were all friendly and helpful.

When I think of a garden centre, I don't think, "I'm going to get lovely grub there. It's going to average fare." Not so with the attached cafe at Earsdon Plant Centre. I had the loveliest chips and quiche I have ever had in my whole puff! I was accompanied by four others who had different meals. My friend had the tuna melt panini, which was huge. She had to wrap up half to have later. it was a Friday, so fish and chips day, which my other two friends gave excellent feedback from. My other friend had the cheese toasty and it looked out of the ordinary, served with a quality brown bread. The lattes are wonderful. I had two. I will definitely return.

Lovely little place with 3 seating areas. We sat in the conservatory part which was nice and quiet. Cheese scones were very pleasant and we had the carrot cake & cheesecake. The portion sizes are huge so I'd probably suggest you share unless you have a sweet tooth. They also have a little shop selling locally produced foodstuff which was a welcome surprise.Dogs are welcome too so win win for me.

I love this place. It's one of the smallest garden centres you'll ever find, but it's just great. The restaurant provides hearty food at very reasonable prices, and I've just bought some Brussels sprouts also!! Give it a go. The food is worth it alone. Thank you.

We recently celebrated my mums 80th birthday at this coffee shop, there were 18 of us , we all had afternoon tea and it was exceptional, tasty, fresh sandwiches, scrumptious scones with jam & cream & a lovely selection of cakes which all looked so pretty & tasted even better, especially the lemon cheesecake,,all served with lots of tea, coffee & prosecco,, we were all delighted with the whole afternoon, the food, the service & the ambience. Nothing was too much trouble, Lisa & the ladies were so nice & made it a really special afternoon. I have since been for a cream tea at the Copthorne & the food wasn't anywhere near the standard of this place,

Called here on a very cold afternoon and was very pleased to see two great big wood burners in the coffee shop area's. The coffee shop is a lot bigger than you would imagine, and lovely and bright. We sat near the fire and didn't want to leave. We both had panini's which were fine, but the cakes looked very good and tempting. The staff, which were all ladies on the day we visited, were very friendly and helpful. Being winter there wasn't a lot happening on the plant side apart from primula's, but will definitely be returning for a piece of cake, and plants in the spring.

I don't know if I should be writing this review, or not, as I would really like to keep this little gem a secret. Earsdon Plant Centre has been around for ever, but only recently has enlarged its coffee shop. Instead of a little corner to have a cup of coffee while buying a few plants it is now a much larger welcoming restaurant, serving all day breakfasts, lunches etc. The wood burning stove gives a warm cosy glow on a cold morning and the coffee is the best around. Now I don't just go for plants, but go just for coffee without even buying plants, although they are always great quality and reasonably priced.

We have visited regularly and always enjoy the food and range of choice. We have been known to go out somewhere for the day and rather than have a snack there, stop here on the way home for tea and cake. Lovely atmosphere, with the stove burning away in winter and the conservatory is nice and bright in summer.Happy to bring friends or family here for lunch any time, and so glad to have found this little gem so conveniently located to home when I moved. Better still, it's good to be able to support a local business.Staff are always friendly and helpful! The shop has opened in the last 12 months and is always worth a visit for local and specialist produce... we will be back again soon!

This is a lovely place to while away any amount of time. Service is great, everything is homemade and you can tell. Good choice on the menu. And there's always the garden centre when you're finished. Next to the coffee shop there's a new deli which has lovely products in too.

We have had the pleasure of visiting the garden centre and always had great service. The food is what it says on the tin, good portions with good home cooked meals. The lemon cheese cake was so good we took extra portions home with us . Well worth a visit but don't expect cordon bleu as its still a garden centre at heart but good with it

I've always used and liked this place but must have returned on a bad day. Plants were lacking in choice, didn't look too good and were pricey. The usually excellent coffee shop was busy but there were lots of dirty tables and the service was incredibly slow. Food was good! There is a shop with local produce but it had little stock and seemed s bit run down. Not sure what's going on but they need to sort it out. Staff are lovely

Stopped off for breakfast and found automation had caught up with Morrisons, in the form of an automated ordering system. Finding our way around the screen wasn't quite as easy as big Mac and KFC equivalents but we did manage it, only just. Wanting to pay by cash, however, was even more difficult as the robot doesn't accept anything except credit cards so customer, much against the chagrin, had to use plastic. The breakfasts, when they arrived, was excellent and without doubt value for plastic.

Called in at lunchtime for a couple of drinks. This is the second time but no more. A man, the same on both occasions standing at bar had the foulest loud mouth He was actually talking to the barman and two others Every other word began with "f' He had a dog with him This time he pulled seat out at one of the tables for his dog to sit at Absolutely disgusting. My husband mentioned to barman who grinned and apologised Not good enough

Nice little hotel bar right on the Main Street of Alnwick I had drink several times during our stay in Alnwick. Margaret had the chilli which she said was nice. I wasn’t hungry so had the potato skins which came with a barbecue sauce and garlic mayo, which were ok but out of a bottle.

Asked for two teas with extra teabag and was informed the charge would be £2.60 extra. Discussed with my husband and decided to have coffee instead. Went back to the ordering area but had to wait while the two members of staff were discussing overtime hours with another member of staff. After going back to the table my husband who had an ‘americano’ needed more cold milk. Once again went to ask for some but must wait while one assistant was showing the other how to fill a serviette dispenser. Poor service and TEABAGS AT £2.60 EACH - Shame on you MARKS AND SPENCER.
