Such a warm inviting pub. The atmosphere here is incredible, such lovely attentive staff that go to extreme lengths to make your visit amazing. The Sunday roast is to die for delicious meat and a nice choice of veggies. Have been a handful of times and the entertainment is well enjoyed under their beautiful outside space. You will not be disappointed!

As soon as we walked into the bar we were made to feel exceptionally welcome, with patrons chatting to us and the landlord "warning" us there was a band in that evening. That was actually the reason we were staying there! A lovely barmaid showed us to our room which was tastefully decorated and had a fridge, hairdryer and led onto a large en suite bathroom which had small bottles of shampoo etc. There was a towel in the landing to dry off any dogs that might have been staying which was a lovely touch. It is an old building so you could hear distant chatter from the bar below but it wasn't a problem for us at all. We went down and ordered dinner which was absolutely amazing. We had the medium veggie pizza, cheesy chips and garlic bread between us and just couldn’t finish it all. Their portions are enormous ... you've been warned! All the staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. There was a choice of Rattler cyder on tap and Cornish Tarquin gins as well as Korev Cornish lager. The band (The Claze) played out in the back courtyard which was under cover and had lots of seating, heaters and lighting. It was a great atmosphere and was the perfect setting for a gig in any weather. We preordered 2 veggie breakfasts and when we came downstairs in the morning we were delighted to see they had BT Sports on and were showing the MotoGP racing. Breakfast was again enormous and delicious and the landlord and landlady were chatty and attentive. I would thoroughly recommend this lovely pub and we will definitely be back. The room was very reasonably priced and so was the food, especially when taking into account the more than generous portions. Thank you to everyone for a truly enjoyable stay

Staying in nearby Lerryn and struggled to find a pub that could accommodate us without pre booking for a traditional Sunday roast. The food was absolutely delicious and the portions generous. Hi, just in Lostwithiel for a few nights, ate here on two evenings. The pizzas were delicious and huge, and I mean HUGE! The next visit we ordered a Hunter’s chicken and salmon, again very ample portions and beautifully presented. Staff couldn’t do enough for you, locals in the bar, all very friendly when entered and left, all in all, a ‘proper job’ definitely recommend 😃👍

Went here for Sunday dinner. Lovely ambiance, friendly staff, food great. Not so good the supposed to be chilled out after dinner drink in the garden. To our amazement there were drunk people all of whom knew each other shouting and swearing across the tables. The waitress came out and we thought she was going to shut them up. No. She sat down and joined in with them. Never ever again. We had our 11 year old granddaughter with us and that was truly out of order. We up and left.

Our family wanted to order some food as advertised on the menus. This was at 7.45pm. The kitchens were open until 9. We were told that the kitchen were busy and that they would be unable to cook for us. We only wanted two pizzas. I asked if we could order a delivery from elsewhere, but was told we could only do that when the kitchen closed. Others trying to order were equally bemused, disappointed, and hungry. The Blondie tribute band were good, particularly in the instrumentals. I would go there again but I'd bring a packed lunch.

We always pay a visit here for a meal when we are in Lostwithiel and have never been disappointed before. Sadly, tonight was an exception. We booked for 7.30 and the lounge was empty. We ordered our food and drinks. The drinks arrived promptly but we waited over an hour for our food. We asked at the bar how much longer it would be and we were told they had a large party in the restaurant and the chef was cooking their food. Eventually, our food came out and my food was delicious. Unfortunately, my partners veggie burger was so awful he sent it back. Consequently when the second burger arrived I had eaten my meal. Plus the second burger was as bad as the first one. I felt so sorry for two lovely ladies serving and waitressing who took the brunt of the complaint, it wasn't their fault. No sign of the chef though. We weren't charged for the burger or a round of drinks. But, unfortunately our evening was spoiled. Plus, if we had been told there was going to be a long wait at 7.30 we could have eaten elsewhere.

Lots of swearing when we walked in. Two very drunk loud men. People had left complaining about food - the waitress thought it was hilarious and told one of the drunk men! Waitress dressed inappropriately. Third visit - each time the same - this time the last. Sorry to say, was disappointed with Sunday lunch today at the Earl of Chatham. Usually it’s very much like a home cooked roast. But today was not good. 1. It was cold, the cauliflower cheese was cold and the general gravy and meat was cold. 2. The pork was tough, or the knife was not sharp?!3. No crackling4. Usually the roast potatoes are perfect. But sadly, not great today. 5. Gravy was thin and tasteless. It’s a shame as we could always ensure a good roast at the Chattham!

We visited the Earl of Chatham whilst staying the other side of Lostwithiel. We had tried a couple of other places that were fine but underwhelming. This was a breath of fresh air. Lovely lady behind the bar who was extremely welcoming. We liked it so much we came back the next night. French onion soup was lovely. The sea bass that we both had was the nicest either of us have had. Really impressed with the quality of the food. It isn't super quick, as some have commented on, but that is clearly because it's all cooked freshly and very well. It's well worth the wait. The Earl of Chatham (named after the late 17th century politican William Pitt the Younger) lies up from the medieval bridge on the hill at the east end of Lostwithiel, on what was once the old road to Plymouth. We had the pleasure of staying for 1 night on a business trip. From the outside it would be easy to drive past without noticing the hotel/pub and the ample sized car park but once you've visited you'll want to go back. The bar and dining area are spotless with low level lighting from tasteful wall lights in addition to the candle lit tables and shelves, it really is a picture, if you add that to clean, quality standard of the furnishings it must be a great local. The staircase to the rooms has new carpet and looking in general I think it's all had a refurb recently, room 3 is a fair size with comfortable twin beds and the bathroom is adequate. There's plenty of drawer space and a small flat screen TV but no wardrobe only 3 coat hangers secured to the wall, an opening window (onto the road) allows for ventilation. Staff and food here are all extremely good. Well worth a visit.

I’ve never left a review before but felt compelled to do so after my visit to the Earl of Chatham. Following local advertisements for a quiz, I called to confirm and was advised that it would start at 9.00 on Tuesday. My partner and I booked a table for food beforehand as it was most convenient and had read positive reviews. However, we arrived shortly before our booking time and we weren’t led to the table but told from the bar more or less where to sit. Our table was directly next to the ladies toilet, the door of which didn’t close so for the duration of the meal we were forced to deal with noises and smells from the toilet. We and other patrons therefore stepped up to close the toilet door throughout the evening. We waited 15 minutes to receive a menu and a table who arrived after us received theirs first. The food was average despite being fairly expensive - £15 for Chinese style sea bass and chips. Also, we were given wine glasses rather than champagne flutes for our Prosecco. This also arrived 5 minutes after our dinner. On finishing our meal, we went to sit outside and waited for the quiz to begin. We asked several times about a start time and, from being assured it would begin at 9.20, we were eventually told it wasn’t on. We are staying in Lostwithiel for a holiday and were looking forward to a good evening out. I would tell anyone to give this pub a miss and visit The Globe Inn down the road instead.

This brilliant little pub in the lovely town of Lostwithiel is located in a handy position for the railway station. Our room wasn't glamorous, but everything was comfortable and quiet enough for a good nights sleep. Our train left early the following day, and so we couldn't sample breakfast, but the manager was very kind and got up early to make us tea, toast, and a bacon sandwich to take away. This was beyond the call of duty, and was very much appreciated.

Fresh crab salad, huge tastey battered cod and chips enjoyed in the bar section which welcomes well behaved dogs. The Tribute beer is very tasty too. Nice friendly and comfortable pub

we needed a B&B in Lostwithiel, and chose a smashing little pub called the Earl of Chatham. tucked away, a real old-fashioned place. warm welcome, lovely little room, lovely linen. we expected to miss breakfast as we had to catch an early train and Jackie the boss was kind enough to get up early to give us tea and toast and bacon sandwiches for the journey! WHAT A STAR! what superb service!

Lostwithiel is one of those magical little places that one hears about in Cornwall but rarely gets to visit. Its a town of antique shops, social cafes and all within walking distance of each other. The common theme of Cornwall , when it comes to food is always the fish as to whether you are on the east coast or west coast the fish is always fresh and served almost everywhere. The pub is also a lovely spot for a pint or a whiskey and the service is really lovely. The big advantage of the Earl is their own private parking where the rest of the town has limited parking for its residents and visitors.

Lovely warm friendly pub with fantastic food & good service. A little off the beaten track away from the town centre but well worth a visit.

Room was clean and comfortable but had a separate bathroom across a hallway which was a little inconvenient in the dark not knowing where the switches are. It's very much a local drinkers pub and although staff were friendly enough it wasn't a warm welcome. It can get noisy in the pub and the sound easily travels into the upstairs rooms.Breakfast was tasty and there was plenty to fill me up.

My chilli was very good but friends had chicken in brandy sauce which was, they said, ok. We ate in the public bar as had dogs. Place could do with an overhaul. Old fashioned, which isn't a bad thing in itself, and staff friendly. Place felt tired. Nice log burner for winter days and I imagine Christmas with the locals here is a good laugh.

Deze typische Engelse pub kan ik iedereen aanraden. Prima bediening betaalbaar en uitstekend eten. Wanneer je de earl of Chatham binnenloopt voelt het meteen als warm en welkom.

Had a truly delicious roast beef lunch today. Friendly, efficient service, log fire burning - what more could you ask for?

The earl of Chatham is a friendly pub which does very good food. There is an extensive menu with wide selection of starters and mains, but if you fancy something different (we like to share garlic bread and olives before the main course) it is somehow conjured up. The food was excellent, as was the wine and beer, and represented good value for money too.

Friends visited this pub and suggested we go. I took my family. Why it is greatWe went in when there were only three people at the bar. I suspect regulars. They made us feel very welcome. The bar lady did not say much but that did not matter as I felt she made me feel welcome. I drank cider which is rare! We sat by the warming fire which was nice.I wanted to go back because I felt at home in the pub.I returned with my wife the next day. One of the men at the bar the previous day made us welcome again. He is an asset to the pub!We were encouraged to feed the fire which I again felt was welcoming. Other locals engaged us in conversation. We had a lovely evening. I have been in pubs in Cornwall that have put up barriers this one did not. I will go back again. My wife was planning to return on her own for a drink which says a lot about the kind welcome. I have not eaten here yet but my fiends say we should. I will give the food a try but if the welcome is as good as this all the time then I will return often.THANK YOU.

We were on holiday and ended up eating here 3 times. We had our dog who typically was nervous in eating places so we never bothered eating out, we were given a table in the corner and asked for the same one every time which they obliged as she was settled, it helped that the staff were all so helpful and the food was so nice, would highly recommend the Pityme Inn and we will visit again, it made our holiday

Very very busy with two ladies serving in a stressful atmosphere and yet they were great, especially Helen. Well done! Coffee was great and seasonal berry slice.

The staff were very friendly. The hot drinks were alright and the cakes were alright. They didn't rush us. The whole atmosphere was really nice and lovely. I didn't have to raise my voice to speak to my boyfriend who has a hearing impairment which is a hearing aid.
