Great staff and excellent food. Visited for a family dinner while we were staying in the area. Beautiful decor and the beef wellington was to die for! Highly recommend

Me and my friend were in the area and wanted somewhere nice for Sunday Lunch. The pub was fully booked but the manager offered us a table near to the bar. The service was excellent (especially a gentleman called Steven), the food very tasty and plentiful and the atmosphere relaxed with a young lady singing in the background. Would definitely go again.

We visited the Eagle whilst holidaying in the area. We had phoned ahead in advance as we were a party of 14 (6 adults and 8 children). They indicated that they wouldn’t be able to cater for this many people but we decided to try our luck and sure enough there were plenty of outside tables available. It is a beautiful setting and the children’s play area is an absolute god send for a group like ours. There is additional seating right by this play area which is ideal. Unfortunately the ladies in our party were greeted with what can only be described as hostility by a female member of staff as they were getting the menus and then later when ordering. Despite us offering to spread our food order across different tables rather than sitting as a group of 14 she said that the kitchen would be ‘overwhelmed’ and made it clear we could only order a limited amount of childrens meals. Our priority was the children anyway so we ordered for them and the food came out very quickly and was fine. They enquired whether the adults could perhaps order some chips but they were told this would ‘hold up the kitchen’. The lady then followed the women out to the table and double checked that they hadn’t ordered too many meals. The family on the table next to us said they had been greeted with similar hostility and eventually they upped and left leaving half their food and half a bottle of Prosecco as they were so disgusted. I find it bizarre that somewhere like this would treat customers like this. Eventually two of the male members of our party went to order some food from a different table number and didn’t encounter any problems. Why couldn’t the lady just say they are really busy and food might take a while, perhaps order the children’s first? That would have been fine… However we were able to look beyond this treatment which is why I have given 4 stars. As described above, the setting is lovely, particularly on a sunny day with children, the toilets were immaculate but most of all I have to praise the food. My duck dish was absolutely delicious, as were all our meals and I found the menu a little bit different to a typical pub/restaurant. This place is well worth a visit if you’re in the area, as long as you don’t encounter this staff member on a bad day!

Went for a lunch time meal ordered rump steak sandwich with fries and gravy the fries don't not like them due to skin I don't think said this on the menu the steak was very chewy the gravy was very good and the service was as well

Just had the most lovely meal at the eagle this afternoon…. The food was delicious and the service was great … food came quickly and no waiting.

This is a pub trying to change the drinking laws in the uk!!! and where staff are unable to identify when someone is clearly old enough to legally drink alcohol. They managed to totally ruin our Sunday dining experience by not only refusing to serve a 25 yr old (with copy of passport on phone) but then serving remaining drinks very slowly, failing to ask if we were happy with food, asking whether we’d like further drinks…just a generally poor level of customer service and an uncomfortable experience from the outset. Food was OK, staff rude and unapologetic, but ready to take our money. Never Again.

Absolutely fantastic establishment! Booked in here for an impromptu evening meal. We were not disappointed. Fantastic service throughout, extremely polite and friendly staff. It’s not often you fall upon one of these hidden gems. we all know the price of food is astronomical across the board so when we decide to eat out, we expect to pay more. We just hope that what we are paying for is something a little bit “extra”. The food at the eagle is beyond reproach. You can taste the quality of the ingredients used and twin that with the excellence of the chef and you have the perfect meal out. Easy to find, fantastic parking, immaculate restrooms and beautiful well thought out interior. I honestly cannot fault this place and will definitely be returning. Thank you for a wonderful evening.

Unfortunately I was disappointed with the lunch yesterday.The food was only warm.The roast potatoes tasted as if they had been reheated and when nearly finished realised there was no vegetable crush.Been a few times and this is the first time I have been disappointed.It was the same comments from the family I was with.

Really enjoyable evening. Had the bread & goats cheese to share for a starter. Which really was delicious. I had the cheese burger which was 10/10 and my partner had Caesar Salad, which she really enjoyed. Our server was very attentive, helpful and even brought a toy for our baby to play with! Very nice Sunday evening.

What a delightful lunch time. Attentive staff from the moment of walking into the establishment. Lots of choice on the menu, apparently the new menu is available in a week or two! Excited to try that too. Chicken supreme, wow, great choice, amazing flavours. Roast duck, blown away with this dish. All washed down with house white and birra morretti. Like I said, what a treat. Place was extremely busy which is a good sign . Was an offer on prices . We had small plates between us and all of it was delicious and tasty . Great atmosphere and super service .

I have reviewed this pub before and commented very favourably. However this experience totally ruined my father-in-laws 80th birthday celebration along with his son and family return from Australia. First the food was only average, the Risotto and Scallop starter was overcooked (at £12) and several of the main courses which were reheated were dried out. The place was packed so maybe they could not cope with the numbers however the main complaint was the staff, again never been a problem before. The scruffy young man at the front of house was surly taking us to our table and then the waitress requested the boyfriend of our daughter to produce ID. He is 26 years old and had never been asked to produce this at this pub. He didn't have his ID but our daughter did and we all vouched for him. In addition we had a copy of his passport on a phone but this was rejected. This was an adults only table and we were all drinking so this left him completely isolated. I gave him a sip of my drink but the front of house threatened us that if he sipped it again the drink would be removed, he seemed to be trying to impress the waitresses with both of them laughing as they returned to their positions. He further stated that the licencee does not hold with a teenager having a drink with adults at a meal!! Trying to move on and celebrate the birthday we requested a non- alcoholic beer for him but this was also refused because it might have a trace of alcohol. This is the nearest pub to our parents and we probably have eaten 3 or 4 times every year but we all vowed, NEVER AGAIN!

Came for Mother’s Day. Had heard some negative stories about the restaurant HOWEVER I had nothing to fear! The menu selection was very nice and at a good price. Plus you actually get decent size meals! Service very good & staff on the ball serving / clearing tables. Bar service also very good.

The bread although tastes amazing charging £10 for a few small pieces of bread and some oil is way over the top but it was good. The calamari was the best I've had. Steak again over priced, it's Rump and £26 most places give you fillet for a similar price. The venue is fantastic though and the staff are always happy and on the ball

Came here for my father in laws birthday and a couple of days later with my wife. It’s a hidden gem! Great portion sizes and everything seemed so fresh. Staff were very attentive without being intrusive. Will definitely be back!

Wow, never thought I’d have to write a review like this about the Eagle! We’ve been going regularly since it’s re-opening and love the place, always good food, great staff and welcoming manager which is why we specifically chose it for our daughters 18th birthday family meal. However, never again after an absolute horrific experience on what we’d hoped would be a very special night. Our daughter wasn’t allowed to buy a drink as she had no ID and nor was I as her father by order of the manageress. We asked for the meal to be put on hold while we went for ID and actually set off only to be called back by the rest when told it would only be put on a hot plate and would be spoiled as a result. On the next round of drinks for the table we ordered for our daughter but within seconds of the drinks arriving the manager appeared and threatened us so aggressively that if we did it again she would remove all alcoholic drinks from the table - could she even do that? Despite us pleading the fact that it was actually the day of my daughters 18th and that legally she could have a drink in a restaurant within a family group from the age of 16, the manageress continued to act rudely, aggressively and totally unreasonably repeatedly claiming she was not risking losing her licence. On top of that, when we enquired as to where on of our starters was a waitress again very rudely and pointedly insisted we’d never ordered it, only for it appear seconds later via another waiter almost before she’d finished her outburst. Needless to say the atmosphere was completely ruined for what was supposed to be a one chance only memorable evening. As much as we love the place we don’t intend to set foot in the place until we are certain any of the previous managers are back in place, the current one hopefully having been trained in the art of politeness, customer relations, customer service, pragmatism, empathy and good old common sense and doing the right thing - even then we’ll think long and hard about returning. She had no right to do what she did morally, legally or ethically and I hope that she has deeply reflected upon how she ruined a young girl’s big night and how she would have felt if that had been her. If it had’t been such a special occasion we all, as a family group, would have just got up and walked out having been treated as we were. Sort it out please The Eagle, you’re too good to be defined by this!!!

Terrible evening experience. Manager unreasonable. Ordered food then manager would not let a group of 10 adults 8 over the age of 40 years buy a drink for the person who was 18. Put food on hold whilst 2 party members set off for id to meet manages requirements then, advised by manager to hold food as it was a 50 min round trip. Advised starters would be left on hot plate. No win situation personally I would have walked out and left them with an empty table and loss of turnover. Spoilt an 18th party.

We have been here before and usually friendly staff and a helpful male manager so we booked a large table for our daughters 18th. Unfortunately the whole night was ruined by a miserable waitress and a female manager who was extremely rude and needed a good lesson in customer relations, daughter in tears we will never return and neither will any of the group with us. I have never been spoken to like that in a restaurant if it hadn’t been an occasion we would have all walked out.

After going for an 18th birthday and the staff refusing to serve the young lady as she hadn’t brought her ID (it is law that a parent can buy alcoholic drinks for there childafter 16 whilst in a restaurant eating a meal ,we then got a terade of abuse from the manageress threatening to remove all the alcoholic drinks from the table’ 8 of the 10 were over 50 , all were family members and we’re trying to explain her age but to no avail just more abuse embarrassing all her staff and most of the restaurant feel very uncomfortable. I will never step foot in the place again. We often go to one of these companies other venues and I’ve always had fantastic times.

First visit with a great welcome from staff.Excellent customer care from our waiting staff, she was efficient, polite & very cheerful. Food was above average but reflected in the price.

My first visit to the Eagle as I live an hour away, but have been many times to it's sisters the Queens and Ship. A Tuesday lunch which was a delicious club sandwich followed by sticky toffee pudding. A fab looking pub, inside and out, the server Meghan was a lovely young smiley lady who provided great service. I will be back again, but such a difficult choice between the three pubs.
