The cafe was always a convenient but slightly down-at-heel local amenity but has now had an excellent makeover. The terrace overlooking the park is a splendid place to eat outdoors and indoors is cool and comfortable. Drinks and food (mainly of the snack variety) are good, with the toasted halloumi, lettuce and tomato sandwich a favourite of mine. Good to visit before or after taking in an event at the nearby open-air theatre or Booth natural history museum.

Lovely cafe with beautiful views of the park and the open air theatre. My husband and I came here by chance after a walk to Brighton from our air B and B in hove and we were so pleased we stopped here. The breakfasts are amazing, diverse and great choice for veggies and vegans. We shared the veggie burrito and the veggie breakfast, very filling, great portions, The chap behind the counter was really friendly, the coffee was lovely (flat whites) sat outside And had the views of the park and open air theatre we could even here people practicing! It was reasonably priced as well

I was here a month or so ago and pleasantly surprised at the good veggie breakfast laid on. The veggie sausages, toast and mushrooms were beautifully cooked. Hash browns could have been cooked for a little longer- same with eggs which I prefer firmer but I expect I could have asked for this and it would have been done. Beans and tomatoes also fine. Returned today and this option not available as they will be closed for refurbishment soon. However I had eggs, toast, mushrooms, chips and all good. I sat outside both times - great view of the maze and sea from here but there is also indoor seating when the weather is grotty. Both times wolved my breakfast down before getting a photo!

Staff were nice but there’s a thing about napkins had to ask ! in Spain they put them on the table in holders .. or at least out or what about some cheap kitchen roll for spills or seagull splat ? Coffee is not barista but it passed well it’s not bad at all and I am very discerning. I agree about the cheese toasty .. not much cheese and a generous garnish in farmhouse white or brown with pickles would make a difference ! not sure how much it is ? But I d not mind paying more for a good toasty. Also agree about sausages and bacon - stick with eggs . The cakes are good and maybe the person with the small slice was unlucky. Speak up and I am sure they throw in a free biscuit for lack of cake ! The location used to have a scented rose garden that’s mostly gone but you still get a Seaview and sunshine there .. some of the area could be tidied up in the corners .mud ‘scrappy hedges a bit unloved - a few flowering pot plants would help in the corners but it’s all more work to ferry them in at night. A license might help they could sell drinks more profit .. more money for upgrades .. but perhaps it’s not possible ... it’s very handy convenient I am glad they are still going on in such difficult times for catering it’s squeezed business so much. Well done !

Stopped off for a coffee and scrambled eggs on toast. Handy parking outside and adjacent loo. Park location and fast friendly service. Decent coffee and what I ordered was very nice. Reasonable prices and would stop here again if in the area.

We stumbled across this place after trying to go to The Booth Museum on a Thursday (major planning error!) and can't be happier with the service. The hot chocolates are something to behold, and the staff are very friendly and accommodating. Would definitely recommend coming in for a sit down in this quirky little cafe. It's also dog friendly - which is helpful for those weary from a dog walk in the park!

Four of us went to the Tea Chalet for coffee and a snack. Very poor service, even had to ask for a fork and a napkin for our food. Plus £2.50 for smallest sliver of sponge cake I have ever seen.

The staff here are always friendly and the cafe always looks clean and tidy. There is quite a selection but my favourite is the poached egg on rocket which is on rye bread. The always make my coffee just how I like it, perfect!

Visited with my hubby, looks great from outside sadly that's where it ends! Ordered sweet potatoes chips & tea , waited a while, then told out of stock! Ordered cheese toasted sandwich to share, took ages to come and thin and nasty when it arrived. Man started cleaning ice cream machine on the next table, tools & parts of machine everywhere together with cleaning liquids. Not nice atmosphere, staff walking around in a daze. Shame as it's in great location near the Booth museum and next to park grounds. Will not be returning.

We had a wonderful party time at this place. The cafe has two large rooms with big windows overlooking the park and an open theatre in the middle of the park. We had our little concert for friends as the cafe has a piano now. The cafe is children friendly, very spacious. Lovely cakes for kids, beer and wine for adults. Would recommend.

Sadly no. Ordered a toasted cheese sandwich. Got tesco essentials thin bread- just 2 sliced and a bit of cheese. No salad, no garnish, no ketchup, no utensils brought to my table- had to go find a napkin for heaven's sake.A young employee sat down with her lunch- all the trimmings- small salad, full plate. Shame they don't treat their customers as well.

I ordered a bacon sandwich for lunch and asked for it to be crispy. Bacon was mostly fat which I pulled off. Not cooked crispy and hardly any bacon for my money once I had pulled all the fat off. Asked for brown sauce, was handed a container of sachets but not given a knife. I had to ask for milk as the milk jug from which you are supposed to add your own milk to your tea was empty and no one had refilled it. Not impressed.

We were looking to fill out time before our restaurant booking so we popped in to the Tea Chalet to drink coffe and eat cake. It was a mixed experience, my cake which was gluten free (positive) was more like a biscuit (negative) which could not be eaten with a fork as it was so dry; the coffee was good though. My companion's vegan fruit cake on the other hand was moist and tasty. The place is very small and can be noisy, but I imagine that in the summer it would be a nice venue for afternoon tea on the terrace overlooking the park. The staff are ok, but you get the feeling that it's not the place they exactly want to be. Looking at what others were eating there seems to be a wide variety of fast food available too.

Been here a few times and it's OK but not more than that. The staff generally appear like they don't care but that is probably as they are part time students or Saturday staff and they probably really don't care. The coffee is out of one of those instant machines rather than barrista standard but passable. Sandwiches aren't too bad and I genuinely liked the sweet potato chips. It's worth a stop of you are in the park and as long as your expectations aren't too high.

Nice little café in a nice park. Had the standard breakfast. Quantity and presentation was fine but it was let down somewhat by the poor quality of the bacon and particularly the sausages. Couldn't eat them, my dogs got a treat that day!!Will stick to tea & biscuits from the café in future and will go elsewhere for breakfast.

Walking through Kemptown we stumbled across this place. Is very small but has a much needed and appreciated outside area. The barman was lovely & sitting there watching the world walk by in the sun enjoying cold alcoholic beverages was gorgeous.

Went into Small Batch, Hove Station at 4.20 pm yesterday. I ordered a coffee as a dine-in customer. Was told that I would have to use a take away cup as they would be closing soon. I left but not before telling the cashier that I would have drunk my coffee within 10 minutes. Small Batch website indicates that they close at 5.00 pm. BTW there were no other customers. Anyway, I went down the road and gave another coffee shop my business.

Unfortunately, even though there were many things right I'll be avoiding this place. The service was impeccable, good beer, perfect lighting and lovely music. So what was wrong? A coven of aggressive women believing they ran the place because they'd booked a table. At their request the music, that I'd been enjoying, was turned off so they could conduct their meeting whilst sipping peppermint tea. I'd suggest a pub isn't an ideal place for this sort of thing. Especially if you're hell-bent on spoiling the atmosphere for everyone else. Sadly, they're regulars.

Popped in for a late morning coffee and bite to eat. Good selection of wholesome cakes and sandwiches available. Went for the cheese, chicken and chorizo toasted sandwich and it was divine! Service was super friendly. But allow yourself time enjoy the experience, because it was busy and not fast. We will definitely return :-)
