Lovely to see a traditional pub still rolling as it should / took my parents for lunch as on Wednesday there is a special on for main and dessert - wish I could remember but it was £60 for lunch for 4 of us - although we had no beers or alcoholic drinks. Really good value and a lovely homemade lunch. Lover and onions were delicious and well recommended. Lovely friendly staff and good fun with the regulars. Wish I lived closer.

Great traditional pub. I noted an open fire, which would be very cosy on cold days and nights. Very quiet as it was a Tuesday early evening. Staff were very friendly and attentive and we enjoyed a lovely roast ...( generous portion). A roast on a week night was a real bonus ...followed by a yummie toffee apple crumble and custard😋....(pud was a sensible portion so we didn't feel over stuffed!) All for a tenner! Fabulous value!💫 We'll definitely be going back!

I visited here , on the recommendation of my Son, when I visited him. I was not disappointed. The beer is well kept and reasonably priced. The food is amazing ( again, reasonably priced) and the staff are friendly and helpful. The Landlord is a former footballer, and is interesting to talk to. I returned on the Sunday, for Sunday lunch . It was out of this world . I had braised steak , which crumbled in the mouth , and was delicious. If you're ever in the area , do yourself a favour and pop in. You won't be disappointed .

The Professor's brother has just moved to the delightful town of Ivybridge, and we decided on a family get together at the Duke. We weren't disappointed by the Sunday roast or the steak pie on offer. Three meats to choose from with plenty of veg, roast potatoes, creamy potatoes and mashed potatoes. Making my mouth water writing this! Splendid choice of puds too. The politically correct 'spotted Richard' was tempting. Friendly and welcoming staff and live grand prix made this a very nice visit. Not much time to catch up on my book "Professor Harry Parker and the Tunnels of Argonaut Bay" by Steve Pick available on Amazon Kindle.

I regularly drink in the Duke of Cornwall and occasionally eat there. The service I get is always exemplary. Dave Smith is a proper landlord. He is always aware of what is going on in his pub and you are assured of a friendly and, if he knows you, a personal welcome. I tend to eat before 7pm and have had a fantastic steak for less than £10. On curry night I have chicken Rogon Josh with rice or chips and get a free drink! Good quality food and amazing value for £7! If you want friendly, efficient service and great value, try the Duke of Cornwall. You won't be disappointed.

We were incredibly impressed. We had not visited since 2006 as we live in Australia but had very good memories of the yummy food! On return we were hoping they still served the curry with chips, they do - and we were not disappointed! The food itself was very tasty and we all enjoyed our dishes. The team were happy & helpful and Dad (a previous Ivybridge local) loved the hospitality and friendly chatter with the owner, Dave (?) they reminisced the old Ivybridge. We all left with very fully bellies. A traditional no fuss English pub that we will visit time and time again. Thanks again for a lovely night.

Dave, the guy that runs the Duke of Cornwall, was a great host. Bar staff were friendly and provided a great service despite our large group. On our arrival we walked in to watch the early kick off football match and food was laid out by the bar. The pub had clearly put in a lot of effort for us as they left out pasties, sausages, chips ETC. If I'm ever around the area or local to the pub again I would definitely pop in, friendly atmosphere and a nice place to visit with friends/family.

Visited the pub for lunch with husband and served up what was described as a pie and chips. Pie was disgusting and attitude from the Landlord after complaining was horrendous. Came out of kitchen with dirty apron on, hands on hips with a sarcastic smile after we complained and said ‘that’s how we do our pies’! Landlord offered no refund or apology for what was the most disgusting meal we’ve ever had in Ivybridge. As a local person I’d rather go without or travel the distance to another pub that deserves our custom than experience anything like that again. Lost our custom permanently after his attitude, would not recommend to anyone if your expecting a friendly service from the Landlord. Even his staff apologised for his behaviour and appeared embarrassed! 😳 Arrogant

"Welcome to the Duke of Cornwall pub in Ivybridge where we guarantee you a warm welcome and a lively, friendly atmosphere. " the website says. However, there are many things that the Duke of Cornwall fail to advertise. The overall experience was marred by poor advertisement of their restrictions that, if advertised correctly, could have saved a rather lengthy trip and a lot of embarrassment. Arriving at the pub on a Saturday evening we were directed to the side of the bar that was designated for families with children. At this point we noted that the half of the pub that was 'child free' was in fact empty, however we respected their guidance and found a small space to be seated. Their website specifies "We serve home cooked locally sourced food every day except monday and sunday evening" and we therefore expected no issues for making a food order on a Saturday. When enquiring about making an order we were promptly informed that they were not doing food that evening and we would have to go elsewhere. Since we had already got a table we opted to just have a quiet drink before moving on. However, shortly after we had paid for a round of drinks the Landlord came by our table and politely informed us that children were not permitted in the pub at that time and that we would have to leave. Whilst he was careful to be polite about this, he confirmed that that this was a licensing issue and that the pub themselves were not permitted to have children on the premises after 1800. He also advised that the bar staff were "wrong to tell us that we could stay until 2000" (although happy to take the money for our drinks). The irony wasn't lost when another child entered the room, with the Landlord exclaiming that was his Grandchild and it was ok for him to be there. Quite simply, had their website made any mention of the fact that they cannot have children on the premises after 1800, and also that they do not do food on a Saturday, we would have saved ourselves the trip and expense. Their poor advertisement of these facts instead left us with a very bitter taste. Overall I would make strong recommendations to everyone to avoid this unfriendly and unwelcoming pub.

Limited opening times, No food so asked out of curtesy if grandson could eat a snack. Was told no but to eat outside in the garden which had a closed sign on the gate, so had eat in the smoking area. Didn't feel particularly welcome. No alternative snack was offered. Wasn't very accommodating, we were staying local and would have returned for a meal but they said closed Monday and Tuesday and we would need to book if wanted to return. I would advise anyone to give this pub a a miss as there are much better pubs in the area
