My partner and I stayed over night here as we were with the county darts team. Lovely friendly staff, good food, massive room (7) with an enormous en-suite which was very clean and tidy. Allowed us to leave our car in the car park before and after checking in/out. Good location and good value for money. If you’re looking for a quiet night away try not to book when they have live music but that didn’t bother us. Definitely stay again

For a small pub the food was very good. Selection of Turkey or Beef with a good selection of vegetables and plenty of it. The service was fast and the food was hot. Several puddings available also. We paid just under £10 each but would have been quite happy to pay more.

We wanted to eat out on Christmas Eve, and, as I'm gluten free, choices in St Austell are limited. However, our first choice, the Duke of Cornwall, was able to accommodate us. We were a group of 12, and the Christmas menu was wonderful! Huge portions, well cooked, and great tasting, and nothing was too much trouble. Can't wait to go back!

Well done to the Duke of Cornwall and to the wonderful chef and staff. On visiting for our Sunday lunch on the 9th of October 2016 we were greeted by the chef never before anywhere have we had such a warm welcome. Talking to some of the locals who come often their they say "Your in for a great treat". I must say nothing wasn't to much trouble for the chef and it was a very busy Sunday carvery 1 of us opted out of having a carvery. This was no trouble for the chef he came up with another option which was delicious and he put himself out to do this. I call this exceptional. The Sunday carvery was a truly cooked to pefection there were plenty on the plates. It was just like how we cook at home. I'm so pleased that we came to visit the Duke of Cornwall our return visit we shall sure to have another visit.

Not good. Booked table for 11, given a table for 10 with an extra on the end to squash up and be cramped. No glasses with our cans of drink offered. Gravy thicker than I've ever seen gravy. Friendly waitress. They halved a pudding to offer 2 puddings when it should have been one to get 2 portions out of it! Nice salad but crazy dish/plate it was served in. Sticky toffee pudding completely burnt and dry, uneatable! Would never eat there again. Family of four asked for their money back rather than eat there. A disappointing meal out on such a special mothers day.

I hadn't visited the pub for a few years and as usual with pubs these days there had been a change of landlord. It was still a good locals pub with everyone having a good time and were friendly enough, though some of the language used was a bit choice from certain characters. The beer was well looked after and the same price as most pubs. I would visit again when in the area soon.

Couldn't fault the friendly staff but that's as far as it goes. The drinks are well over priced, (could have been the holiday maker effect) but worse the food is very poor. My daughter went for the "gourmet burger" and I the steak and ale pie. The burger was dry and the brioche bun was very dry. As for the steak and ale pie itvcertainly wasn't a decent piece of meat, very cheap cut probably braising steak. It was quite a while getting to the table as well. Very disappointing. Would avoid it especially if you have a party of four or more it will definitely lighten your wallet.

Sad to say that we were very much looking forward to having a romantic dinner out that night and a couple of drinks, having just moved back to Cornwall. This used to be such a great, friendly pub! We did'nt even get to order food, as we were both put off so quickly. Got to the bar, ordered drinks, and I almost immediately received unwanted remarks from some rude man at the bar (clearly a regular) - of which there were quite a few, along with a couple of women who clearly had some kind of problem. I don't expect to go into a pub that has been advertised and reviewed so positively to allow it's customers to behave in such a manner - particularly when we had our 6 year old daughter with us! Not to mention being accosted by something with heroin trackmarks, reeking of cheap white cider and trying to scrounge a drink either. The place has been decorated very nicely, but I did notice lacklustre hygiene behind the bar, and gdining area. Sadly the clientele and staff who did nothing when my husband made a quiet complaint. Used to be a great place many years ago, but has fallen short on these things. We left after half an hour, and shall not be returning.

I have stayed in this hotel previously and would recommend stopping again on business. The thing that stands out about this public house is the friendly welcoming owner, staff and the characters and personalities of 'the locals'. The welcome and friendliness of everyone made my visits most enjoyable the laughs and 'banter' was between everyone really made me feel at home. The restaurant was an added bonus with a large variety on the menu with special offers to tempt any hungry traveller. The food was well presented, did not have to wait ages for it to be served and cooked to perfection. I would really recommend trying this out and the almost full tables (especially on a Tuesday night support my review (I would recommend on booking before you visit) Special mention to the bar staff who verbally abused me and my business partner while we were sat in the bar before eating (in a very friendly, jokey way -you know who you are :-) )

Arrived at 5.30pm to find the restaurant meals started at 6pm, however we were told that it was not a problem as the staff were there anyway. We bought drinks and had a browse through the extensive menu. We decided on the Texan chicken burger and the New York chicken - both with French fries. When the meals arrived we found they were very large portions which we were delighted to work our way through. Sadly I couldn't finish mine despite the fact that it was fabulously tasty and the French fries tasted so fresh. Staff very helpful and friendly so would definitely recommend going there and will be returning ourselves in the near future. Hopefully we might manage a pudding next time especially as the whole meal was at a bargain price!!

I have not been here since I was a teenager many years ago.. but took up the offer of a free lunch from my daughter (yes that long ago). The pub itself is doing an American theme with various menus offering American style food. Prices seemed very reasonable and a good selection of beers. Staff were very friendly tooI chose a hot sandwich which was loaded with steak, onions, cheese and jalapenos. There were fries on the side and all for £4.95. I must say the sandwich was fantastic. Oozing with flavour and delicious to the last bite. Filled me up all day, did not even fancy supper at home... I would have rated this experience as excellent, but the pub just seemed a little dark and cold, maybe it was the gloomy weather? I really want to try the 26oz steak, but that might be just piggish

We had a meal in their amazing beer garden one evening. This was full of every imaginable plant in a tiny space and looked fantastic. Imaginatively laid out and well lit. Worth going there just to see it! The food was good and excellent value for money. It has an American bar and grill theme, with, ribs, steaks, burgers, etc. The portions were huge so we just had a starters size meal and that was plenty. We each had a half rack of ribs, sweet corn and a portion of sweet potato chips between us and that was sufficient. Service was a bit slow but it was a Saturday night and they were busy. But it had a very friendly atmosphere.

This review is based on TWO visits within one week.Visit 1:I googled somewhere nice to eat which did Vegetarian food, this popped up, the menu looked good with a veggie hot dog (they have a vast burger and dog menu) and three veggie burgers of various descriptions. We asked for a table for two, got shown to our table which is in a little area off the side of the bar, it holds about 8 tables. Having a separate eating area always gains points with me, I like to be out of the bar area if possible. Our drink order was taken and delivered, then the food order taken, I ordered the hot dog.The waitress returned to say they were out of veggie hot dogs. Not to worry then, I will have a burger. The waitress returned to say they were out of veggie burgers too.Seriously? She then brought me a lunch snack menu which had a roasted veg wrap on it. I didn't fancy this at all, so we cancelled our order (for his food) and left half our drinks (which we got charged full price for) and went elsewhere. We decided to return though as the food going out looked amazing, and you know, these things happen.Visit 2:3 days later, I try to call to see if they have the veggie options on, but kept getting the fax machine, so we thought we would take a chance. It was a Wednesday evening and the bar area was packed so solidly that it was hard to make your way through to the restaurant area. We did, eventually, and got a table, But before we sat down I asked if the veggie options were available, the waitress went off to check. No hot dogs and no burgers! BUT, she said they could "make up a burger for me if I wanted" - well, yeah, but I did ask why they couldn't do that the other night when we were in, and explained what had happened. She apologized and said she didn't know why that was said.Ok then, I was happy with that. Sat down, ordered a "Mexican" burger, with BBQ sauce, jack cheese and onion rings, but I traded the onion rings for mushrooms and traded the fries for sweet potato fries. Hubby made some adaptations to his meal too and I worried as the order was not being written down, simply remembered.During the wait, the pub quiz from the bar had overgrown and a group of people took a table in the restaurant to do the quiz. This resulted in the compare standing between the two rooms and bellowing out the questions. It was so loud and disturbing to diners. When the food arrived it came with regular fries. I questioned it and the waitress said she had forgotten to put the order through. Never mind, it's not like I don't like regular fries so I would eat them. Mistakes happen and I didn't kick up a fuss about it. (write it down!!)Then I opened my burger, it had a lot of grilled peppers in it - urgh! Still, I hadn't asked for no peppers (even though there was none listed on the menu) so I picked them off. The next layer was mushrooms with melty jack cheese - yum. I put the lid back on and took a bite.Hubby then asked how my burger tasted.... hang on, burger? I opened the bun again to find NO BURGER. Just mushrooms and cheese. Where was my burger. There was no satisfaction check done and it was a complete nightmare to wade back through the pub quizzers to get to the bar, plus I actually enjoyed the food I was eating so I ate it.When the waitress returned I said, there was no burger in my bun, she said, I know, I told you we had no burgers but we could make one for you out of something else.Ok, so this could well be me misunderstanding what she said, but both myself and hubby thought when she said "we could make you one" meant that they could make me a BURGER, not just chuck the trimmings in a bun. When we came to pay I was charged full price for a veggie burger, until I said, actually I haven't had a burger, just trimmings. The bar girl then went to the kitchen and came back and knocked £2.00 off the price. Shame we had to ask! Now, if this was just a review from me it would have had one point, I gave it two because hubby had a wonderful meal, and actually the food that I ate was very very good, I would have loved to have had the whole meal as advertised though. Tips, check veggie options are available before you go, AND don't go on quiz night!

Ate as a family here. The dining room is off of the main bar and only seats around 25 people. It does feel a little as if someone has taken out the pool table and dart board and replaced them with a few tables and chairs. The portions are huge and the food is okay. We had a mixture of burgers, chicken and a steak which were all cooked well. The food is okay - not bad but not great - and it does provide good value for money if you want something cheap and cheerful.
