We had booked a large table for a pub lunch and had a nice time, although service could have been a bit more reactive. A part from the barman, other staff members looked half asleep and made us feel like a nuisance. This is isn’t a high quality gastro-pub experience as the website promotes. It felt like your standard drinks pub that happens to do fish & chips and a Caesar salad. They weren’t prepared to receive us, tables weren’t drawn together upon arrival, we didn’t have enough chairs and tables were all very sticky. A pub is a pub, but we had picked this one for a special gastro-pub experience, which it wasn’t at all.

Went there for a Sunday roast with family. Chicken and pork roasts were fine, not great, but at least edible. Beef roast was a disaster. I literally could not cut through the meat with my knife and the one tiny piece I was able to saw off, I needed to swallow as a whole… As it was medium rare, I am really wondering what quality of beef are they using? Pls change the supplier, or hire a new cook, or possibly both… Staff apologized for the bad quality but still charged for a full portion and 12,5% service fee (apparently I should have complained earlier, not at the end).

I chose this pub because of its location near tube and museums yet far enough from touristic hordes of Cromwell Rd. Also informative website and easy table booking system. I was hoping for a pub not an overpriced gastro/ restaurant masquerading as a pub and was not disappointed. I was very happy with my choice as the 12pm booking meant the pub was uncrowded so the barman/server (charming and very obliging guy from Taunton) was able to move us to a quieter table (6 Nation rugger was about to start) so we could talk. Beer and food was excellent and service was attentive so didn’t object to 12.5% discretionary tip. Thougherly recommended.

Very disappointing. Before booking a Sunday evening , I checked to see if they were still serving Sunday roast options ? Was told yes . Arrived at 7:15 pm and after a drink and placing our order - we were told ALL roast ( beef , chicken and pork) options unavailable . We selected what we could from the main menu . One guest ‘s soup arrived - paltry portion (1/3 bowlful ) no spoon. Twice asked the staff ( only two present and one of them was behind the bar ) was informed that they “don’t fill it to the top “ which wasn’t what was asked . . Burger option was tasty but had to go and look for some condiments . Then told kitchen was closing and to order any deserts before all main courses arrived . It’s averagely priced for South Kensington but definitely not as good as other local pubs . Staff were informed about our service / complaint and I said I would leave an honest review. It’s certainly not welcoming by any means .

The Sunday roast (mine was pork) was tasty but let down by poorly cooked roast potatoes with no crackling with the pork, other than a leathery looking bit of pork skin. The beef was beautifully cooked, along with delicious Yorkshire puddings. The manageress lacked any genuine hospitality and looked like she wanted to be somewhere else.

The beer is OK, a bit too cold ale. Tried the broscheta and garlic bread bit was really dissappinted. The broscheta was a slice of bread and two ice cold tomatoes chopped in 8 pieces each with some onion. A few drops of some oil and basil below the veggies. It looked more like an accident than a dish. The garlic bread was two hard, dry fried slices of the same bread. The garlic, was in a small pot with some butter for you to spread on yourself. Never ever experienced that before. Cood lager and crisps will be the best option in this, otherwise nice pub.

We popped along to The Clarence to watch the Women’s World Cup final before an afternoon at the Museums. Overall a good/average experience - but would likely find another pub before rushing back to this one. We had reserved a table to watch the football, this has not been marked on the tables so the staff had to ask another couple to move. Good for us, but the couple that moved pointed out there was no reserved sign which is why they sat there. We had some bloody Mary’s which were very good! And later on ordered some food, the hummus/dips sharer and potted crab. The hummus/dips were nice - but not enough crudites/bread (they kindly bought some more out). The potted crab was very disappointing, the crab was runny and there was a meagre slice of bread which fell apart. The overall ambience, vibe was nice and staff were friendly.

🚇 Gloucester Road 🍺 £5.80 Pravha ❤️ A warm and welcoming good all rounder. . The Duke of Clarence is located on busy Old Brompton Road where South Kensington meets Earls Court. The nearest tube is Gloucester Road which is a five minute walk. . This pub was built in 1870 by Trumans. The pub has had a couple of interesting names over the years like ‘The Great British Beer Factory’ and ‘The Bram Stoker’, the famous author was a resident of these parts. . The decor here is traditional with some contemporary touches here and there. The walls are painted in a dark green and are covered in an eclectic mix of artwork and pictures. There is plenty of seating which is predominantly all low level, I sat on one of the comfy banquettes which are illuminated by beautiful pendant lights. There are some nice other features like the green tiled columns and the backlit bookcase. . The beer selection was good and included cask ale. I opted for a pint of Pravha, my pint great if a little lively and cost less than six quid. As this was my last pub of the day, I decided to have some Fish & Chips from the classic British pub grub menu. I really enjoyed the food, price point was £17.50. If you visit on a Sunday, the roast diners here receive rave reviews. . I visited around 4pm on a dank Saturday afternoon back in January. The atmosphere was relaxed, calm and the pub was warm and cosy. The bar wasn’t overly busy with half a dozen or so punters in. There was a couple with their brown Labrador, an American couple and a fella sat at the bar with his earbuds in having a bit of a ding dong with whoever was on the other end. The pub was easy to settle in to and I watched a bit of the rugby on one of the five screens. On that note, if you like your footy, the pub shows live Premier League. . @thedukeofclarence was a nice visit and I very much enjoyed my time here. My pint was great and I really enjoyed the food. The setting is traditional and you felt you were in a proper pub. If you’re a sports fan, you’ll be well catered for too. a good all rounder this, definitely worth a visit. . ℹ️ Info correct on visiting 07.01.23
