Britannia in Kensington and Chelsea

Brilliant pub, just off the main high street and perfect for a quiet pint. My favourite meeting location in West London.

Our favorite dish is fish and chips and we were very satisfied with the food AND the service. The food melted in our mouths and someone was nearby to meet our needs any time we needed. At our request they even made sure we kept a supply of still water the whole meal. Wonderful evening with friends.

Raj was amazing with the red wine recommendations. He really made our night

I needed a space to work remotely in the area for an evening and I was more than surprised by the little gem the Britannia is! I was expecting a regular Kensington pub instead I was suddenly in a very cosy place, with a live fire on and extremely friendly and helpful staff who were taking time for new and regular guests equally and with care. I also was amazed by the soup! The clientele of locals and visitors alike were all respectful, polite and enjoying themselves as the pub itself and its staff set the tone. A complete opposite in comparison to the atmosphere of other pubs in the area. Looking forward to visiting again soon and to show it off to friends.

My wife was directed to this place by a florist at High Street Kensington. She loves fish and chips and was so impressed by the quality and quantity of the portion that she brought me here. She is enjoying her fish and chips but unfortunately they ran out of beef steaks which is a shame because I wanted to have exactly this. If we come again maybe they will have beef steaks. We also liked the Estrella beer.

The service is bad and staff so indifferent. The blond lady at the bar/service was border line rude and smileless. They made the order wrong and refused to change the drinks. Very bad experience - such a shame as it is a beautiful place.

We went for the Sunday dinner and really enjoyed the Yorkshire pudding and beef. Raj was very pleasant and helpful.

An ok pub but slow service and pretty stupid method of identifying reserved tables, rolled up paper inside empty wine bottles saying reserved that you dont even notice, then you get asked to move to another table where there isn't even any chairs.

September 2024: Stopped by for lunch and enjoyed a very nice meal. Started with a half pint of the Proper Job IPA from St Austell Brewery. Was a nice light session IPA. Started with the pork and fennel sausage roll and it was very delicious 😋. Then tried the chicken liver pate which was very rich. Went well with the Young's sourdough bread. To end, had the quinoa salad which came with arugula, chickpeas, cauliflower, dates and almonds. The salad 🥗 was surprisingly filling because the portion size was large! Service was friendly. Would definitely come back again for more delicious food and beer.

A very good place, cozy, a pub that is great for spending time with the family, the service is excellent, pleasant waiters, the service is fast and attentive. Special thanks to the waitress Oksana for the excellent service!

Dan the manager and Tristan the tender were outstanding. We were visiting from the states and they made us feel right at home. The fish and chips were authentic and delicious. Not over fried or too breaded! The drinks were spot on. We would make this our go to spot if we were local. Don’t miss out on Kensington’s best kept secret.

We came here for drinks and ended up staying for fish and chips, the best we’ve had! They were incredible! Tristan and Dan made us feel so at home with their hospitality…. we really enjoyed our time with them and the lovely bar banter, literally exactly what we were hoping to find here. While being overseas the Britannia made us feel right at home. Genuinely can’t recommend enough. Those vibes…. Just right.

Was on a trip from Paris and wanted to try the famous Fish and Chips in London, but wasn't too hungry. Server Raj recommended me to go with Child fish and chips (Half a size of regular) and it lived up to the hype. Highly recommended. Also the staff was amazing.

My sister and I had our first British Sunday roast EVER at The Britannia! From the ambience over the service and the food - all was AMAZING! 🫶🏼 The meat was tender, the sauce & sides were perfect & the mashed potatoes tasted so gooood! Lovely Sunday Roast and excellent service from Raj. Great pub, would definitely recommend.

Authentic tasty food especially Fish and chips with camden hells & also had a great service by Raj! However, I'm looking forward to come back and try the other choices in the menu.

We hired the upstairs room for a university reunion and it was the absolutely perfect location. Raj was so lovely and helpful behind the bar and the rest of the service was excellent. Also the fish and chips was delicious!

Oleksandra is pure joy and light to every guest that walks through the door. My friends and i visited this bar from the United States and she made us feel so at home and welcomed as tourists. I recommend this bar to anyone local or out of country! Great atmosphere, drinks and games!

Had a great time at Britania.....on the occasion of Euros finals. A big thanks to Raj for welcoming us so warm, even in their busy hours. A lovely find in a quiet little street in Kensington. Wanted somewhere to watch the euros but not manic, where we could sit and eat, booked a table online which was great. Seating was fab with excellent view of tv. Pub had a lovely atmosphere, choice of seating and real traditional London pub with lots of room. Staff made you feel very welcome, food was excellent. Lovely to see people were able to take their dogs in to ❤️. Will definitely be revisiting on my next visit 😍

Great place with and excellent atmosphere. Was visiting for EURO 2024 England game, it was very busy, but the staff handled that perfectly - especially the bartender Tristan, who made sure everything was going smoothly and guests were happy. 10/10

The Britannia Pub is an amazing local neighborhood establishment with fantastic food and even better service. Lou, one of the people who works there, is incredibly friendly and always goes out of her way to make sure you have a great experience. The food is delicious, probably one of the best fish and chips in the entire city of London. The pub is always clean and well kept, with the perfect temperature and an easy, comfortable environment to spend an afternoon or evening at. Highly, highly recommend this pub in the Kensington area!

This is actually a very nice pub! Felt like a proper British pub. The vibe was very nice. It looked like a bar locals like to visit. The two guys behind the bar were very friendly. Felt very welcomed :)

Best pub in Kensington for a party! Wonderful staff and service, great food and beer selection, but the highlight is the atmosphere. In addition to a beautifully intimate upstairs room which can accommodate 50 guests, the Britannia is in a great location right off High Street Kensington while also finding itself on a peaceful street with a lovely outdoor seating area that feels completely separated from the city bustle. The pub has an old-timey feel with pictures of Kensington from 100 years ago adorning the walls and it very much serves classic British fare. Shout out to Louise for providing outstanding service during an event I hosted there in April!

The pub is really nice and the booze prize is fair for the area. Unfortunately the service was not the best one. We’ve been welcomed by a guy with a blue t-shirt and short hair that wasn’t really pleasant at that time. ( strong London accent) Maybe they were too busy. When me and my colleagues went to the bar for order he was kind of arrogant with my female friends and we noticed that his tones were the same behind the bar with the other members of the staff. We asked for 2 pints and wine and he was keep asking to the girl behind the bar to do things ( black hairs and tattoos) which didn’t seem to be much enthusiastic about work. Despite this we had a pleasant evening. Place Need definitely some tlc.

Meal excellent at 'pub-grub' standard. The bottle of wine with the meal - excellent. We asked for two glasses of the same wine to complete our evening. The wine from the opened bottle at bar was 'off'. It took a little bit of discussion to get that agreed. Slightly bad taste to end of evening.

The Britannia is a great Youngs pub. Just had the nice cheese selection with very good crackers and skinned celery. Many places do not bother to skin the celery. Then I had the apple and rhubarb crumble with vanilla ice cream, which was very tasty. ( custard would be a nice option, or pistachio ice cream ? ) Dog friendly, and good ambience. Was offered more crackers , so 5 stars plus ! Restaurant seats at the back , outside seats. Friendly good staff and a clean pub. Been coming here for years.

Ordered the fish and chips which initially looked nice but unfortunately when we cut into the batter and smelt the fish, it was horrible. My partner and I have literally never sent a meal back but it got to the point that we couldn’t even stomach more than one bite. So after getting some courage I mentioned to the wait staff that the fish smelt very off. The wait staff didn’t really apologise, just got very defensive and made it very awkward, insisting that the fish was fine and no one else had complained… They eventually allowed us to get something else, we both got the veggie burger which was actually quite good. More disappointed by the response of the wait staff than anything. We were very polite and apologetic that we were having to send the meal back… but unfortunately their attitude ruined our overall visit.

Wonderful classic English pub environment

Do not come here if you have allergies or food intolerances. There is no menu, and a chaotic response to queries. Staff checked with the chef and said that I could have the fish and chips. It arrived without the mushy peas or tartar sauce. I queried it as I was explicitly told the whole meal was gluten free after consultation. Eventually after a long conversation I was given normal peas and a freshly made tartar sauce (everyone else's was made yesterday and the chef was unsure of the ingredients used....do they not use recipes???). What was really frustrating was the attitude of the waiting staff that brought out my meal initially. Very defensive, and of an attitude of well you are gluten free so you can't have everything....despite me having it confirmed that I could....then on second asking apparently I couldnt. I had to speak with a manager. The food was fine, but underwhelming for the price.

£37 for four drinks? Might not have been serving urine but the prices were certainly taking it. Charge reasonable prices, we'll stay longer for more than one round and ultimately spend more.

Louise is a lovely patron. She cares and takes care of you making you feel that you’re the only costumer in the pub. The ambience is great and so is the beer selection. Highly recommended.

Fantastic! We wanted a British food experience and this place delivered. The fish and chips was delicious and the atmosphere was amazing. The staff was also very friendly and helpful. We had a large group of 22 people and we still all sat together and the service was also still quick.

Good pub all around in a great location tucked into the side streets off of high street Ken, with very decent food. Drinks are good - only serious downside being that the manager seems to carry a real chip on his shoulder with a clearly unfriendly demeanor. Other than that, super decent pub!

The bartender was friendly. The atmosphere was nice as well. They had board games, too.

I’ve been going to this pub for over 6 years. Today I went In for a Sunday lunch and was refused .there were plenty empty sets yet they wouldn’t serve me food until 2 hours later. This despite a group of 5 just arrived in front of me. This is no way to treat loyal customers. There happy to serve a group of 5 but not a person in there own. Disgraceful and disrespectful.

Feb 2024 wonderful dinner start to finish. Great burgers, Haddock was cooked to perfection and the Brie appetizer was very nice also. We will definitely return and recommend to anyone.

Good British pub, beer was great, food was average

I have just left the Britannia. I have been there a number of times before, but only for drinks, and it is lovely. Very well decorated and very cosy. However i went there for food. 3 of our party are gluten free (it runs in the family unfortunately). Nearly everything on the menu had gluten in - but the waiter said that adjustments could be made where we asked. However, he just didn’t seem to have a clue what was in the food and wasn’t inclined to ask the chef. On asking if the gravy had gluten in he just responded with ‘probably’. Furthermore he didn’t seem to be able to explain what the other things on the menu were. They were out of their chicken roast (unfortunate but understandable) and only had 3 beef roasts left. You were not allowed to say how you wanted your beef cooked as it was all cooked as ‘standard pink in the middle’, similar the burger was described as ‘cooked through’. I like my beef pink but this was basically raw - with just the smallest amount of cooked meat around the outside. Partially because of this it was fully cold within about 2 mins of being served. Maybe it was just a bad day - but bad service, no flexibility, and average food isn’t a great combo.

Aperol Spritz is more water and ice for an expensive price. Disappointing. Never again.

If you managed to find The Britannia, it means you either looked for it, being a regular or being completely lost. It is a little "hidden" gem, set back from the busy streets and is truly a lovely place to visit. I have been there many time over the last two decades but actually never had the time or opportunity to embrace the surroundings as such. Reflecting and based on recent experiences, it is a very much loved pub, which shows by the people frequenting the venue. It is a dog friendly pub which is a huge plus for me. I've never had food from here but I've been told that it's really good. Have a go a judge for yourself. I'm already a fan.

Two of us enjoyed a couple of glasses of wine and a bowl of chips by the fire on a winter's afternoon. The staff is warm, welcoming, and friendly. A local brought in a beautiful golden retriever who welcomed all who entered. The loo is clean and accessible.

Short visit ahead of the show in the church across the road. Good beers. Good service. Relaxed atmosphere.

We stopped by for a quick bite during Christmas shopping, we found a very cozy ambience, food was delicious, and Sue has been very caring and accommodating.
