We visited this past weekend as a family for Sunday lunch while on holiday in the area, booking late morning on the day, the gentleman who booked us in during the call was both polite and friendly, initial thoughts were that we were very much looking forward to our roast. On arrival, the building and the location are beautiful, very picturesque, the interior very nice also. Approaching the bar the young lady serving was welcoming and friendly, efficiently providing us with menus and seating us at our table. From this point the experience from a service point of view fell way short of what I would expect for such a fine restaurant, I’m unsure of the lady’s name who took our order and served us as she didn’t even initially introduce herself, but she was far from friendly and welcoming which my wife and I were a little taken aback by, borderline rude in her mannerisms, there was also no inclination to engage in any friendly conversation, ultimately being the sole reason for marking down our review score. The food itself was delicious and really well presented, priced fairly for the quality, compliments to the chef, the Shiraz too was lovely. We had asked if it was possible for my wife to also have a Yorkshire pudding with her roast turkey but this didn’t arrive, we were made aware that this could be a possibility so it wasn’t expected. I personally feel this should be an option even if it comes at an additional cost, I’d expect that to be the case and we were happy to pay anything additional, the option wasn’t available. We decided not to stay for dessert. Maybe in hindsight the establishment is a little too formal for bringing along small children? Both our sons, aged 8 & 4, behaved really well and were busy with their activity books we brought along to keep them occupied so there really shouldn’t have been any reason to cause offence, the gentleman sat at the bar were far more rowdy, regulars and locals no doubt. So all in all, the positives are that the food here is excellent, parts of the service was welcoming and friendly, unfortunately our experience was really let down by a staff member who both my wife and I felt was in the wrong role to suit her personality. Kind regards Simon

Local inn to us but first visit for our anniversary. Food was excellent and welcome warm. Menu was thoughtful and varied and catered well for a gluten intolerance. We support the businesses stance on sourcing ingredients locally. We had a gf fish and chips with a cider batter which was beautifully crisp, a duck breast served with thyme and onion boulangere and a starter sized up for a main of smoked trout poke bowl. The desserts were also fab, chocolate tart with an orange infused cream and a lime semifreddo. Delicious, well sized, flavour explosions!

The Drewe Arms is, and has been for the last couple of years, my go to pub in Devon. The new owners are about to celebrate three years of owning and running the pub and they deserve to be clearly placed on the map. Broadhembury is a lovely, little, thatched cottage village, just a short drive down a narrow country lane from the road that links Honiton with Cullompton. Although a smidge off the beaten track, its position serves as a fantastic diversion off the M5 for a super lunch. The chef has a bi-monthly changing menu, with a regularly changing specials board too. The menu is well thought out, interesting, tasty and wonderful to look at before you tuck in and demolish your plateful. The various fresh fish dishes are noteworthy and superbly cooked, but do be mindful that all the food is cooked to order, so don't expect conveyor belt levels of speedy service. Go there with plenty of time in hand and you will be rewarded with some of the best prepared, cooked and presented food in the area. This is a pub well worth searching out and giving your support, as they truly deserve to make a success and maintain their place in what is, a very difficult industry at the present moment. They also need the support of Tripadvisor Reviewers to ensure their business is recognised for their hard work, awesome cooking and characterful pub. They are dog friendly and people friendly, so expect a bit of chat, banter and a laugh if you choose to engage the owners and/or staff in a conversation. All in all... a very worthy pub!

We visited the Drewe Arms twice over the weekend, once as a couple and once with friends. On both occasions the food was great and so was the ambience, with a big log-burner welcoming everyone on a very cold December night. The staff and service were also excellent. In addition to the food, the Drewe Arms has its own range of beers & gins. If you are looking for a superb 'original local' in the Honiton area, this is the place to visit. Four of us had an excellent meal here. Nothing was too much trouble and the food was excellent in this gem of a pub. It speaks volumes that the restaurant was full and the pub busy on a Tuesday evening. The service was so good that, when I realised that I'd left my phone behind, the manager offered go 'above and beyond' to drop it off at my house which would have been a 30 minute return journey. Totally recommend!

The crew at The Drewe Arms are deserving of their good reviews, starting from when you enter to a friendly welcome, warm fires on cold days and an open approach to dogs. They keep a short, regular, menu with one or two specials and they focus on quality ingredients, attention to detail, interesting food combinations - as well as traditional - whilst trying to remain price competitive in what is a very difficult industry. You can visit their website to view their menus, but i'd happily recommend everything, especially their chips! Watch out if you're driving their from Cullompton and using GPS, as it'll try to take you down a nadgery Devon lane. Keep going to the marked crossroads and turn there. In fact, just writing this review has got me thinking... "I need to book again!".

Lovely friendly pub with good food. I asked for a main course portion of a starter but was brought a starter size so accepted it. It was very tasty. My friends had steak and said it was excellent. Good wine offers and selection Only negative thing was children scooting across the old wooden floorboards on trainers with wheels. We did mention it to our server but it continued until we asked the child directly to stop!! A busy bar with trays of hot food coming out of the kitchen and with adults out for a nice dinner - even up to 10pm - is not an appropriate place for scooting kids in my opinion. Otherwise it was a pleasant dining experience!!

The fish and chips were excellent with light, crisp batter and perfectly cooked fish. Veggie burger at a later visit was also excellent. We have kept visiting and recently had a meal outside in the sun. The service was efficient and friendly. We are still a bit reluctant to eat inside but will explore the possibility. I do not find the precautions they take in anyway over the top. In fact as one of the older more at risk brigade I really appreciate them. Turned up having booked at table earlier that afternoon, was told all dining was outside, but told ‘don’t worry we have tents’. Thought this would be interesting but based in the TA reviews felt it was worth a punt. Turned up, unlabelled sanitiser on a table by the roadside, used our own. Stood in the yard, asked a random person whether we could come in, kitchen staff person spoke to us through the window and said we needed to enter through the top garden. So through the archway we trooped, back onto the road, and headed into the garden. There was a sign over a window saying bar, gave the name and a waitress then proceeded to take us around the back of the pub back to where we had just been standing t then be shown into the pub (via the archway) to discover we were eating indoors, which was a relief.Dining room had 4 tables in it, well spaced out. 3 were for dining and the 4th nearest the entrance was we later deduced the food and drink collection point from whence you had to pick up your food and drink. I get that everyone’s interpretation of the required protocols is different but this was like being in a west end farce.Food was tasty, but with so few tables, it’s bizarre procedures not permitting drinkers inside, I fear it is in for a difficult winter second wave or no second wave lockdown. That said, worth a visit but go with a smile in your face prepared for a level of oddness, but hey we’re in crazy times.

Truly a great pub, very friendly on entering and we had booked a table for our farewell meal with good friends. We all had fish & chips and it was excellent. Freshly prepared and of course with all the trimmings. Local beers and Ciders on tap and they certainly knew their stuff. We would certainly recommend and also go back. As we left it was heaving with a great atmosphere.

Our lovely local has just started serving brunch 10am-12pm. Had an awesome veggie breakfast and avocado poached egg on toast. Excellent hot sauce! Great coffee. Can’t beat it in an area starved of good breakfast spots!

My family and I have loved this 'quintessential' and 'olde worlde' English inn for about 35 years. It is one of the establishments on my '5 pubs to drink in on my last night on this earth' list. 16 years ago we celebrated a 'landmark' birthday party for my wife there. It has changed hands 3 times in that period, and was closed altogether for about 2 years, some 11 years ago. We hadn't visited for about 3 years until today, when we found ourselves driving north on the M5 from Exeter, with time on our hands. "Broadhembury?", I asked my wife. "Definitely!", she replied. It was a "Eureka!" moment. We didn't spend a great deal of money (£21 total, to be precise), but we enjoyed two 'A+++' pints of beautifully-kept Otter Ale and two amazing (and very filling) 'starters'. We sat in the garden, which in our opinion is one of the friendliest and most beautiful pub gardens in England. This was a Monday, and, as we all know, Monday can be an 'off' day. But not at Broadhembury! I asked the friendly landlord if he could move the pub (and village) just a little bit nearer to the motorway and he replied that this would spoil the pub's 'Far from the madding crowd' charm. I couldn't agree with him more. This amazing pub is about 6 miles from the M5 and you need to make a bit of an effort to make the detour. Make it! - and you will surely return again and again - as I have done, and willl continue to do, now that I have rediscovered it.

Had lunch here with my partner and two dogs while on holiday nearby. Service was really good, prompt and friendly. The food was delicious and didn't have to wait long. Our dogs were made to feel very welcome (provided with a water bowls and a biscuit each!). The landlady was very professional, polite and chatty. Will definitely be back when next in the area.

As a group of 9 friends and family, we had an evening meal here on the day before the wedding that we had assembled to attend. The table was pre booked and was arranged in a beautifully decorated room. The menu offered a range of alternatives and the food was tasty, well cooked, hot(except for the salads!!) and attractively presented. The staff were extremely friendly and attentive without being obtrusive.

Ideal village pub to have a quiet drink in , after a walk in the beautiful nearby countryside. The live music provided at the time we were there would have been fine as a background to conversation with my friends but it was MUCH LOUDER and competed with conversation with them. We might of eat there, if it was not for the music,

met up with my brother who was returning home from holiday.lovely pub,log fire,2 very nice friendly lads behind the bar.ordered 4 sandwiches,2 fish goujons and 2 chicken caeser.all 4 came.dry bread!! very little filling and bread just came apart when picked up.worst sanwiches we have ever been served.the chef shoud not have sent them out.the lads behind the bar were very apologetic and only charged for 2 but really should not have charged for any.the 2 desserts were very nice.how on earth can you get a sandwich wrong, and certainly not at 8.50 a go.look forward to your response.the 2 lads behind the bar were faultless though.

We called here enroute from a fabulous weekend away. What a great place, great service and fantastic food. It was Sunday, so we chose to dine on the rib of Beef, it was absolute heaven on a plate! I don't want to rave to much about this hostelry, because I don't want all and sundry visiting ;-)

What a wonderful place this is, it's like stepping back in time. Some of the furniture in this place is hundreds of years old, what character! The landlord was really friendly as was the lovely barmaid. We stayed in a room for 2 nights and it had everything we needed (and when we ran out of tea/sugar it was provided immediately). Breakfast was fantastic, portion size was huge!! I loved this place and would definitely stay again.

Moved tables to fit us in. My husband is a coeliac and the waitress was so helpful, sitting down with him and going through the menu. The food was delicious and the staff friendly and knowledgeable. Tried to go back on another evening but they were fully booked.

Wonderful welcome and the serving staff are superb and attentive but the real star is the chef who produces delicious and unusual food all from scratch....even the ice cream. Could not fault the food including the complimentary 'amuse bouchée' , even the olives with the bread tasted extra special. We tried dishes from the menu but there is always, fish and chips, burger and pie, however we recommend choosing from the main menu which is superb. This pub needs to win prizes not only for its food but its staff in general

We had to try the new Sunday lunch menu and we were not disappointed. Roast beef served with roast potatoes, parsnips, carrots, broccoli, cheesy leeks and a proper Yorkshire - not one of those rock hard crispy things restaurants often serve. Followed up with the best freshly cooked Blueberry Bakewell and cream. The staff were friendly and attentive. Thanks very much

We celebrated our daughter's 5th birthday party today at Amazing Grazing. It was incredible- marquee set up with tables; smaller marquee with tuff trays of games; whole paddock with tonnes of activities from building to tyre rolling to a miniature flower shop; goat, pig and alpaca supervised feeding. Superb from start to finish. Fantastic value for money and Taro was so helpful right from booking to the day itself making sure it was the best experience for our little girl and her friends.
