In the past this was a popular destination. Fish was fried when you went in and portions were good. Times have changed. 17 year old youth who said he worked there 44 hours a week. No apron,no chat,no customers. Place was dirty. Fish and 12 cold chips was nearly £9. Total rip off. No receipt offered so I couldn't check. The place was cold, dirty, and dismal. Won't be going there again.

Having returned to Shipley for the day from Doncaster I fancied fish and chips for tea. Knowing the establishment from old I made a beeline expecting a wholesome takeaway before returning home. Fish, chips and curry sauce came to £9.45… about £2 more than I pay at home. For that I was expecting a large portion but how wrong I was. For the price, the size of fish was a rip off and the chips greasy. The best value for money was actually the curry sauce which was excellent. Maybe I’m spoilt back home but I won’t be rushing for fish and chips if this is the standard for a £10 take a2ay.

Popped in for chips on an evening and not disappointed, delicious! Good range of drinks, friendly service from the young staff. Drake's seems to have been bought at some time in 2021 and the quality has skyrocketed, as a result we go here any time we want chips! We had some problems with a previous mber of counter staff, no matter how hard we tried we always got something different to our order. No more though, as that person seems to have left. Sadly, on my most recent visit it seemed to be closed due to the door being smashed and there was an ad in the window seeking a new fryer. We t again a few days later and still closed with boarded up door. I hope they can reopen soon!

Abrupt Fish-fryer guy at the back of the shop seemed to be confused when i asked for 2 x Cod, barking back at me - '2 fish then mate' - which was actually Haddock. Fair enough if they only sell Haddock but don't make out i'm the oddball for daring to specify which type of fish i'm after - 'Sorry mate, we only sell Haddock' would have been fine. Then stood waiting and listened for 5-10 mins whilst another customer tried to explain a very simple order to another person working there. And then he ended up apologising to the server who was totally bamboozled. So a couple of real strugglers working there, food wasnt bad actually.

The staff are friendly and the children's meals are good but I can't say the same about the main menu. It's pretty expensive for chips, so I was expecting something pretty good but it was a tiny portion of average quality. My fish was good but my partner's fish cake was just thick slices of potato with a few flakes of fish. It was clean but looked like it's really run down and needs a refit. All in all not worth it for what you get.

I went to Drakes because, my usual fish shop was closed and I’ve had them from drakes before, although at least a couple of years ago, and they were ok. This isn’t the case anymore. The fish tasted awful, and was discoloured brown, the batter was soggy, with half of it sticking to the wrapping and the other half dropping off. The chips were scrappy. To add insult to injury, they are more expensive than my usual fish shop, and the have been voted best in Bradford 2020. Don’t need to say I won’t be going again

On 24th September2020 I ordered the set meal for two and established that I was entitled to free delivery but by the time I had reset my password, which was a requirement of Deliveroo, I was being charged for delivery. I could not change that. When the meal was delivered there were two boxes containing small portions of fish and chips but there was no curry sauce and there were no mushy peas. "If you have any feedback about us we would love to hear it." it says on the website so I sent an email detailing what had happened and expressing my disappointment. The implication from the website was that they would respond to any feedback. The outcome is that I have received no response to the first email nor to any of the four subsequent ones. They have lost a customer and appear to be not bothered in the slightest.

New staff have reduced chip portions to half what they were only a couple of weeks ago. Worse still, the quality is terrible. Apart from the plethora of small slivers of potato, half of them were not chips, they were crisps. Terribly poor by anyone's standards.Definitely, not what I've come to expect from Drake's, having been a customer for many years - although that may well have come to an end on this showing..Can't say that they presented their friendliest side, either, not a single smile amongst them. Absolutely dreadful, awful fish & chips. Greasy soggy chips, and everything stuck together. Just bits of fish in the 'so called' batter, not flakes of fish as it should be. A visit to this Fish & Chip establishment has been on my bucket list for ages! The premises have that certain appeal! And customers appear to be about no matter what time of day. Our visit did not disappoint. Clean white fish with non greasy light batter, dry chunky chips and mushy peas, just as they should be, made for a delightful meal. We were just missing two mugs of Builders Brew to wash it down with! We shall certainly call again as it was certainly much better than your average street corner fish shop! I stayed at the Homeleigh Hotel opposite Drakes Shipley restaurant on Bradford Road. On going out foraging for food at about 9pm, this chippy was the only food outlet for any distance - none of the famous Bradford Indians I had been expecting. I ordered Scampi and Chips and a pot of curry sauce. The chap doing the frying said “Sorry, the scampi look a bit small, I’ll give you a few more to make up the weight”. I said I would eat in and the charmingly mannered young lady said “Take a seat, I’ll bring it over when it’s ready.” After a while, she indeed bring it over, along with the condiments and sturdy plastic fork. The whole time I was waiting and eating, there was a constant stream of people, one after another, though the queue never built up to more than two orders, as the evening teatime rush was long past, but everything was cooked fresh. When the food arrived, I was very pleasantly surprised. I had a pile of scampi, (which I now wish I had counted), and the critters certainly looked normal sized to me. The chip mountain looked delicious, and had been freshly cooked and - Just the Once! I am not a fan of these double and triple cooked chips one gets everywhere these days, from posh establishments down to Wetherspoons. Heston Blumenthal claims to have invented them, and were I Emperor, there would be a public execution in the offing. Of course, these type of chips come straight from the freezer – Wetherspoons will not be cooking chips thrice for £1.49 a plate.A proper chippy offering single cooked chips is an establishment now in danger, and I am thinking of starting a “Bring back real chips” campaign, much like the CAMRA one for ale. I notice a previous reviewer called the chips undercooked. Perhaps this was what he meant, stupidly expecting a chippy to sell these stupidly hyped up comestables. My curry sauce was ok, although it was the type that a lot of chips shops have, created it seems from a basis of peas. I always hope it will be Chinese curry sauce. But it was fine and spicy, and something to dip my chips in, and I’m certainly not going to mark them down for their choice of product. It was a bitterly cold night, and I was well wrapped up as I sat at a garden type table to eat. Even with the door opening and closing for the constant stream of customers, most of the heat stayed in, with no unpleasant howling draughts. There were big glass windows in the sharp end of this triangular building, and I did enquire if it had once been a pub, being on a road junction. However, I was told it had always been a chippy, the pointy restaurant bit having first been a tailor’s shop. This place must be great in the summer, with its big glass windows and extra outside bench seating too, like I have seen in Ilkley. There was some adjacent off street parking, though I observed this was full up mid afternoon, when I arrived. The Bradford road is a thoughfare, and stopping is difficult during the day. On my return, I noticed from my hotel window opposite, that the shop stayed open till 11pm an was still visited by a steady stream of customers. So - lovely, friendly polite staff, fresh cooked food and generous portions. Of course, being a Londoner, the price seemed ridiculously cheap too. Top marks.Steve Randall, Hemel Hempstead

It's a pity, the food wasn't bad but I won't be going back.If I wanted ill judged sarcasm & blatant rudeness I'd watch daytime TV - an environment much more suited for the young bearded man who served me today - one things for certain, he shouldn't be dealing with customers with his attitude. He wasn't even playing to an audience, there were no other customers and the chap stood behind the frier was trying to make excuses for him, but the damage was done.Having moved away from the area several years ago I found myself driving passed at around tea time so took the opportunity. I went to Drakes fish shop tonight. I asked for fish and chips. There were no fish ready so I could not see the size before buying. So what did the great scammer do? They cooked one fish only and I had no option to see the sizes of until it was served. The woman serving took my money before the fish was served so I had no option not accept the goods. This I assume is how they rip people off in that fish shop. Rip off portion size on the fish - cheated and scammed good and proper. The fish sizes was so small it was only worth about £1.50p. Every other fish shop I have gone to the fish are twice as big as this petty little thing from Drakes. I will never go there again and I recommend other no to go there either.Proper scammed.

Last time the woman behind the counter misheard my order and I politely pointed this out to her and even apologised but she still responded rudely and aggressively. She gave me such a ridiculously small portion of chips that both my partner and I both had to have a slice of toast after our meal. Really nasty and petty! I've just finished eating haddock and chips (proper portion this time - thanks!) and half the chips are black, the batter on the fish is so soggy on the bottom that it just slips off! We met with friends at the cafe at Blue Hills Farm this morning. The experience we had was almost out of a comedy sketch and we ended up walking out after receiving refunds for what we had ordered. A regular of tea and a decaf tea were ordered. A cup of, tea (complete with teabag still in it) was almost bounced on he table. There was no saucer, spoon or milk supplied. We were told that there was no decaf so did we want anything else. The 'waitress' then walked off without waiting for a reply. Also, we tried to order an all day breakfast with one of the other members of staff. We were asked "large or small?". Having replied that we didn't realise there were two to choose from and asked what the difference was we were told "One is a bit bigger than the other". There was another customer group of three who had ordered and already been served with their food. They also commented to us upon the bad service. We have never felt so unwelcome in a cafe before. Ironically there was a 'Welcome' sign at the entrance to the cafe. Needless to say, we won't be returning.

We had not been to this Ikea for over 2 years so it was a complete shock to see how much this restaurant had deteriorated. We waited over 30 minutes in a relatively small queue . Once we got our meals, we proceeded to pay, where when we arrived, we were told to go to the next till as she was going in her break! We had to rejoin a queue on the other side, where we were then charged for a drink we didn’t have and 4 extra meatballs we didn’t have! The till lady then told remaining people behind us that she was also going in her break and to join the other till where no staff member was?!? Head office need to do something asap
