Man/owner was rude and obnoxious, and quite un sympathetic towards the 2 disabled children we were supporting. We were made to wait whilst other customers who came in after us were seen too. The children behaved impeccably throughout, but when we left he was abrupt and made us feel unwelcome to return! Which we won't!! He certainly shouldn't be in the hospitality business.

This is in our view, the very best local restaurant. Having just had their Christmas 3 course meal, the garlic creamy mushrooms were SO tasty, the roast turkey meal had ALL the very best trimmings and the dark chocolate torte had mango flavour ice cream to die for! Oh and the cheese and biscuits were varied and tasty also. If you like your cooked breakfast - then this is one of the best that we know with sliced fried potatoes, local butcher quality sausages-try to eat the large breakfast - it beat me! Looking forward to our next visit!!!

A little out of Tavistock and well worth remembering when there’s little parking in town as this cafe has its own car park plus it’s an easy walk along the cycle path from Whitchurch to work up an appetite.Pretty busy on arrival and it’s easy to see why as it’s cosy and warm inside with a welcome for dogs too.Lots of choice and food arrives hot and portion sizes good ,so I’d consider good value for money .Both last visits have been when the weather has been awful but a good view to the moors when dry although the outdoor space could be improved slightly. But certainly a place to revisit on a regular basis.

Can I first say the Sunday lunch we had was yet again first class. The previous contributor who gave such a poor review was probably the old bat sat on the table next to us, and clearly got out of bed the wrong side. She moaned about where they were sat, moaned about the traffic going past, moaned about customers. People like that can ruin your awesome reputation. Whenever we are visiting family we always come in, are always impressed and just adore the place. Hopefully she got home safely on her broomstick. Keep up the good food and wonderful atmosphere

We often stop here on our regular trips to Tavistock, as the all day breakfast or breakfast sandwiches are wonderful. Locally produced sausage and bacon are some of the best. The main plus point is that they are more than happy to make "swaps" on the breakfast plate. So many places refuse to change the eggs, which I cannot eat, for anything else, but here, no problems what so ever. Cosy and comfortable with all the meals at realistic prices for good food. Must drop in sometime to try the main courses. Well worth a visit.

Called in earlier today before walking the Drakes Trail (or at least part of it!). Only enough space for around 30 but as it was around 2.30pm it wasn’t too busy. My wife and daughter both had a bacon, mushroom & cheese ciabatta with a side order of sweet potato fries; whilst I had a tuna & mayo jacket potato with salad & coleslaw. Have to say that it was probably the largest jacket potato I’ve ever had with lashing of tuna and mayo on top and was delicious. Also nicked a few of my wife’s sweet potato fries which were equally as tasty. All washed down with a nice latte. First time we’ve been here since it was converted from a pub to a cafe many years ago and would definitely call in again....well recommended.

The waitress came over and gave home another menu and told us a list of things that were not available or they were running short of. That was the last we saw of her... she disappeared into the kitchen for a long while, then cleared some tables and then stood chatting to customers that were paying and leaving. When we finally thought we were going to be able to place an order a man came in and stood and asked her for a coffee and off she went to make that, we were still sitting there hungry and thirsty.

Popped in here on a really wet Sunday morning. Chose 2 of the Golden Hind breakfasts. I swapped out a few items like meat sausages for vegetarian ones, black pudding for a few extra potatoes and fried bread for toast. Miserable waitress failed to tell us that we would be charged extra for swapping items even though everything was swapped for a cheaper or similar item. Found that out at the till on paying the bill. Not asked if we wanted white or brown bread - served white toast which was most definitely supermarket bread despite the owner's denial that they use supermarket bread in an earlier review. Strangely another customer ordered scrambled egg on toast and was offered it on white or brown bread! By far, the worst thing about the breakfasts was that everything that could be deep fried was deep fried: sausages, potatoes, mushrooms and we did speculate whether the bacon was deep fried too! The eggs were fried and over cooked - no yolk to dip the toast in. Overall, a really bad experience and although we are local, we won't be going back. No excuse for poor service and poor food at this cafe which has been open for a few years now as a cafe but many more years as a pub. A final point is that we were the first customers that morning so the chef had no other orders on and the waitress no other customers to attend.

We visited after a shopping trip to Tavistock. Had to go to the till to request to order as it was slow. Ordered a cheese and pickle sandwich and a "spicy" tuna and cheese melt.Sandwich was average on supermarket bought bread, the melt was odd!I could smell coronation chicken, it was as if they had used the knife that made the coronation chicken sandwich before my melt and buttered my melt with the same knife. No spice just a strange curried flavour.Getting the eye of the waitress was like drawing blood! Other than jump up and down waving our hands in the air, they would not notice you. The young waitress lacked any sort of service personality. Will not return.

Food looks good when I've seen it served to other tables, must came back again to try so I can offer an even better score! It's clean and tidy but could do with updating as some of the furniture seating wise is very hard so you wouldn't want to sit any longer than your coffee break. Good toilet facilities.

Known this place for years, when it was a pub. Popped in on the way to Tavi for a bite to eat for the first time since conversion. Slovenly proprietor who was apologising to every customer that "It isn't McDonalds" and " All food is cooked to order". Yup, get that, and alarm bells started ringing. But still no excuse for understaffing and gross inefficiency. Quit after a drink and cancelled order. A truly awful example of all that is bad about UK cafes. Will never return.

Met family for lunch, this was convenient as we live in Plymouth and mum lives in tavistock. Never been before but we will return. Good cafe food in lovely decorated cafe. Good service. We didn't partake but the cakes looked lush!

My partner and I recently visited for the xmas menu. He had the spiced soup for starter and I had the deep fried prawns. We then both had braised steak for the mains. Was absolutely lovely. The meat was so tender and the mash potato was perfect. Lovely and fluffy. We then both had a lime cheesecake with ginger biscuit. Again really lovely. We were both so full. My partner and I have been here on several occasions and the food has always been lovely. Our next meal will be the deluxe burgers which are huge. Best local eatery.

Whilst tackling a small portion of Drakes Cycle Trail with my young boys decided to follow a recommendation to visit this cafe for a refuel. Well worth the slight diversion. Don't let the steep hill off the trial out you off. Really helpful and able to accommodate for gluten free. So after coffee, delicious cake, ice cream and loo breaks we were flying down the rest of the trail back to Tavistock.

Came in for Sunday roast and food was 10/10, best roast we have had for quite a while. What lacked was the service. We booked for 3pm and whilst we appreciate we entered at a busy time wrapping up peak time, service received wasn’t great from the off. One particular server seemed to be in quite a mood and was remarkably blunt “no” when we asked questions about getting some extra yorkshires (which we were a bit surprised the pork meal didn’t come with, but our fault for not reading the menu properly!) Plus someone seemed to think it was a great idea to loudly polish/sort out the cutlery at the bar, which was right next to our table, making conversation quite difficult and picked up by all 4 members of our party. Shame as food was amazing and would go back, but service lacked. 3pm bookings just as important as 12pm as all paying the same!

The restaurant was recommended to me and did not disappoint. First class, friendly service and excellent food. The online menu seemed limited but there were plenty of other options on the specials board.

We went for pizza the 1st evening while camping and then breakfast the following morning. Amazing food at a good fair price, loads of amazing bike gear and bikes. Lovely atmosphere 👌 great staff, everything cooked fresh.

Beautiful place and restaurant. The only issue is, when choosing a piece of steak, we were told that the only way chef would cook it, is the only way chef would eat it. Which meant rare. I don’t like rare, and my husband hates it. We came to a compromise. Unfortunately when served, it wasn’t rare, it was raw. This cost £100! I just wish that I had been served food that I enjoyed eating. Unfortunately I won’t return. We have supported this establishment and the chef, but we felt that we just weren’t listened to. Indeed we were told next time the chef would only cook to his desire for each cut. It’s a bit of a liberty, especially when you try to support local. Maybe listen to your customers.
