Definitely go here if you can! The atmosphere was really friendly and cosy, with a roaring fire, great food, interesting books, and a delicious array of local beers. The locals were rightly proud of their local and we can't recommend it highly enough!

Fabulous Sunday lunch. We wished to give our friends from Norway a proper Sunday lunch experience, as well as having sufficient space for our greyhound. The reviews left us optimistic, and they were born out in practise as there was nothing to fault at all. The portions were large, the food hot, the veggies cooked just right. There were a couple of parties with dogs, but they gave us both suitable tables, if the dog is happy so is the owner! Clearly the pub is doing something right as it was full that day. We took Llangenny Lane, but it is very much single track with few passing places, so we left via one of the other routes.

Having parked in Glangrwyney and then taken the dellghtful 25 minute walk up the path to the right of the old cricket pitch and beside the little stream up to the Salmon leap in Llangenny, four of us had a very happy sunday lunch. This pub is charmingly run and serves up simple but properly cooked pub food in a very friendly ambiance which is captivating. Our hostess was very welcoming and without reference to a menu or wine list simply reeled off what she had to offer us that day. Both the chicken and beef roasts were delicious followed by Sundaes served in those old fashioned tall glasses. It's definitely worth a visit and next time I'd like to spend a whole afternoon or evening with friends, either in winter sitting on the old Chesterfield sofas in front of the woodburning stove, or when it's warmer sitting in the small garden over the road with glass in hand beside the babbling brook. PS -the walk back to the car is downhill!

We recently moved to the village, going to the pub most weeks. We have been very well served by the pub takeaways during lockdown, and outside/socially distant meals between the lockdowns. Inventive Friday night specials for the takeaway customers, along with takeaway beer etc. Great food, reasonable prices, proper pub atmosphere.A place very obviously run by people who want to be running a pub and enjoy it. They cannot do enough for customers whether they are local or visitors. No better pub within 20 miles, probably a lot more.

Really lovely traditional welsh pub. We hadn’t booked but we managed to get a table early. It seems like a proper locals pub, but we were welcomed in like we’d been there 100 times before. Quite a basic/traditional menu but still plenty to choose from and when the food came out it was lovely. If we’re ever back in Llangenny we will definitely come back!

A tasty Sunday roast, served up in a friendly, traditional, countryside pub. The place was rammed, so reservations are clearly sensible, but our meals were served up quickly and with a smile. If our host hadn't recommended this pub, we would've probably not even noticed it, but what it lacks outside, it makes up for inside tenfold. A quaint family-run pub that has preserved its personality over time. The rooms themselves were not your usual Spoons, the lovely hostess was walking around in bright pinks and an everlasting smile to accompany the attire, and the menu only written on chalkboard and carried to tables if necessary. All the foods we ordered we huge and tasty. In fact, it was probably one of the better curries I've ever had. Would gladly recommend.

Not the easiest pub in the world to find - but it’s absolutely worth it! On our long weekend near Crickhowell, we found this dog-friendly pub on the first night, and enjoyed it so much we kept going back. Although the menu is not extensive, the dishes they offer are homemade to order and you get a proper portion ( no sign of nouvelle cuisine here!). An additional dish of veg and gravy boat. Just delicious. We managed to squeeze a dessert in somehow and my warm chocolate brownie was beautiful. The place is excellent the beer good but the service and attitude of staff is terrible. We booked a table for 7.00 pm and arrived at 7.00 . Waiting to get a drink at the bar the red headed waitress pushed through customer without even an excuses me. we sat at the table for an hour waiting to have our order taken (14 people) but all the tables around where asked but not ours. Somone went to the bar and asked and was told we should order at the bar, which was different to the service around us. The it was said we will come to the table. Only trouble was they missed our table and went to some locals who had just arrived. We finally ordered with some things running out. As with the other tables bread was sent out but 4 side plates and enough bread for 4.one of our dinners asked if they could have some bread and was told by the red headed waitress that it was being kept for other guests. Eventually a little bread came out with the promise of plates that never did arrive, we only had cutlery for 10 of the 14 and pointed this out more than once. One of our part finally gave up and went in the kitchen and got cutlery and place mats. After nearly 2 hours the food finally came while we had watched new dinners arrive be served and leave.

From the moment we walked in we were made to feel welcome. Its a real old country pub with lots of interesting photos etc on the walls. The real ale was excellent and my cabernet sauvignon was great. We had traditional Sunday lunch but there were plenty of other items on the menu. I liked the big solid table that we ate on and the fact that tables are not close to other diners. A lit wood burner added to the ambiance. The landlady in particular was friendly and we felt relaxed and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The toilets were clean and outside is a little drinks patio with an interesting wood and stone floor. There is also a little enclosed grassy garden which looks great for children.Dogs are welcome which in our "dog loving country"? makes a pleasant change. I felt if you came in wearing your wellies or your tiara you would be made equally welcome. There is a small carpark to the rear or you can park in the village. We noticed a camp site opposite (too old for that sort of thing now!) which could be fun in the summer months.Go, you will not be disappointed.

What a great little find! Recommended by the B&B we were staying at and very glad we went here. Firstly, the service was extremely welcoming and cheerful. In fact I was very impressed with the entire infrastructure of this part of the world - brilliant. Nice atmosphere inside. Next, on initial inspection the menu might appear basic but don't be fooled! The food is cooked with love and really trumped what you'd expect! I chose Chicken cooked in Garlic butter with veg and my Wife picked the Vegetable tart. Lets just say the chicken wasn't your typical "cheap-chicken" but wholesome and succulent with great flavour and the Veg tart was actually proper vegetables, not over-cooked and topped with cheese just right; no stodge, just flavoursome and just what she wanted. Portion sizes were superb. Loved the look of the puddings but chose not to overload! House Wine and Low-alc Cider were also excellent. A perfect end to the day and to top it off, the chatter of the locals was lovely; no bad language or jerks at the bar, but civilised and warm. When we left, they all said "goodbye, all the best"; how nice is that!

The bar has a warm and cosy atmosphere and the locals clearly love this place - it's easy to see why.The food was excellent. I ordered the Welsh sirloin steak and my partner had mushroom pepperpot. Both were cooked perfectly and arrived quickly. I wish we could have stayed for longer. We planned to go to The Dragons Head for a quick meal after a long drive from London, but now we're planning on going back every evening we're here. This is how pubs should be everywhere!

My husband, two children and I had Sunday lunch here today. We hadn't booked, but they had room for us. The two adults had roast chicken and pork, one child had chicken and the other, pasta and tomato sauce. The food was delicious and plentiful, and we didn't have long to wait. The children cleared their plates!Puddings were amazing, rhubarb and apple crumble, white chocolate cheesecake, and raspberry pavlova sundae.A pint of cider and three soft drinks plus the above and we had change from £50. We will be back very soon!

visited on 16Feb2016. We were a group of 5, arriving about 7.30pm. The main bar area was busy with people eating. Pete managed to squeeze us in even though we hadn't booked. Pete (not sure if he was owner/manager) was working on his own, he did a marvelous job, making us feel welcome. Lovely food! Huge portions! too full up for pudding. Complementary basket to fresh bread and olives while we waited for our meal was appreciated (lovely soft squidgy bread!).

It's fascinating to read some of these reviews as many are about a different pub! They don't actually serve some of the dishes people have criticised. Of course it's not a part of a national chain so when it's busy service is a little slower and sometimes they run out of certain dishes, but this is a proper village pub and visitors are often invited to join the lively conversation in the snug. Well kept local beers including Rhymney and Felinfoel and great hosts and regulars make this the perfect local.

We'd been recommended to visit this pub by locals, and called on New Years eve for dinner booking on New Years day. Our sister has her birthday on new years day and celebrating is important but many places are closed. We didn't understand that NY Day lunch was one of the busiest days for this pub, but even still the owners were more than accommodating even though they had a large day. The duck was excellent as was the chicken. Had a good chat with the landlord about MI5..... sure he will remember us.

Stopped in the pub for a meal before heading up to walk to the summit of Pen Y Fan for new year. Pub was very busy and the staff managed to fit us in despite the large number of filled tables. We both had the Lasagne which was excellent. Very friendly staff. Will gladly visit here whenever I'm in the area.

We had a wonderful meal here yesterday (Sunday). Excellent food and really generous portions. The Dragon's Head is set in a beautiful location, about 1 1/2 miles from Crickhowell. Fantastically cosy atmosphere with comfy sofas and wood-burning stove to keep you warm now the days are getting colder.

Came here for food on a Friday evening, I'd definitely recommend booking a day in advance to make sure you can get a table as when we arrived all of the tables were reserved. The staff were really friendly, it had a good atmosphere, the menu was small but varied in the sense that there was something for everyone. It was very reasonable, didn't have to wait long for food to be brought out, and the portion sizes were really good.

Enjoyed good pub food at the Dragons Head, a fairly traditional pub. Nothing terribly sophisticated but tasty food with generous portions at very sensible prices

If you like microwave cooking then this is for you.If you are expecting a proper chef to cook your meal then you will be truly disappointed.Should have realized when we entered the restaurant since there was no smell of cooking coming from the kitchen.Rump steak- very tough and gristly, and when we complained to the waitress that we couldn't cut the meat she said she would ask the chef to sharpen the knives !!Gammon did not present with crispy fat, and there was evidence of water on the plate. This used to be a regular place to visit for excellent food, but sadly, no longer.

Definitely not the fine dining experience promised! Very disappointed, mediocre food with overcooked vegetables. Knew we were going to be disappointed when offered cheese savouries (think 1970’s party food) as an appetiser! Salt and pepper squid - lacking either salt or pepper but with the addition of soggy parsnip crisps and grapes. The waiting staff were pleasant!

Mock timber frame manor house retaining much of its character and charm. No lifts. Breakfast was choose your own pre-packed cereals with a cooked option. Dinner was a mini-taster with delicious options which we watched cooked on TV cameras. The room was clean but dated with an en-suit crammed in. High windows restricted light and views of extensive gardens and river. The staff were friendly and willing but lacked service training. Guests our age do not wish to be called 'you guys'.

Great place to stay. A friend and I cycled to the area and stayed here overnight. The owner is very accommodating and friendly. The room is a generous size with all the facilities you would want, and you have access to an outside deck area with lounge chairs and table which is ideal on a sunny day. The breakfast was also lovely. The location was great as it’s a 5 min walk from 2 good pubs and a post office/shop
