Dragonfly in Merthyr Tydfil

Myself and my family called here yesterday. We had an hour to kill before a movie. As we walked in, I'm assuming that the short brown haired woman who literally barked at us from the end of the bar was a waitress, but she could have been team leader. We were not through the doors completely and she shouted to us whether we required a table for three. I checked, and yes, there were still three of us, and nodded my agreement that we did require a table for three. She then barked, while pointing, ' you can sit down here or up there and order at the bar' I thought this was unprofessional but we weren't at the Ritz so we followed where she had pointed. There were no tables for three at the top of the room, so we trudged back through the restaurant to the bottom of the room. There was a round table for four in the middle of the room. We didn't want to sit there. I have had spinal surgery and wanted to sit quietly in a corner or more out of the way, which had she bothered to speak with us, I could have informed her of this. Still wandering about, looking for seating, we saw the empty ' bar area' we sat down. She appeared as if by intolerant magic and sarcastically and loudly informed us, ' you can't order food here, that's why there are no menus on the tables'. To be honest, we were so hungry, and fed up of wandering about the place looking for a table, that we didn't notice that detail. Up we got and sat at a table. Again she appeared and loudly announced that the table was reserved. There was no reservation sign on the table. She pointed us to the round table. As we were hungry and had our young child in tow, we sat there reluctantly. The point of this review is that she was rude, unhelpful, sour faced and that is enough for us not to go there again. In contrast, the rest of the staff were pleasant. We paid a fair amount of money for average food. I expect not to be shouted at from down the end of the bar by someone who clearly needs more training, or a few days off. Won't be calling there again.

Went here for lunch with a friend I orderd the ham egg and chips my friend orderd the steak. On arrival of the meals I was shocked to see the most smallest piece of ham and about 8 chips it looked more like a child’s meal. My friend steak was totally tasteless. And undercooked. Would never go back there again.

Visited with my wife and 2 granddaughters and I must say I won't be going back. My wife had the carvery which wasn't too bad, just a little on the cool side. The children had the chicken nuggets with mash and peas and was your usual children's food nothing exciting. I had the mixed grill which took at least a hour to arrive and when it did arrive I wish that it didn't. I have never had such a bad mixed grill in my life, everything was way overcooked and very very dry. The steak was burnt and so was the sausage. Avoid this place it's terrible and the drinks are very expensive. Yuck

Went here with my children and grandchildren... when we asked for a table for us all we were immediately told that the waiting time could be up to an hour .. we didn mind as we always sit about chatting anyway.. 2 of the adults had starters and the 2 children also had starters... the adult ones came after about 1 hour and 15 mins and they had finished theirs and the childrens starters still jadn arrived.. when we questioned the waitress she went to find out what had happened and to be told that they had forgotten about them...!!eventually the children had their starters... then the wait for the mains... the food was ok.. some had the fish and some had the lasagne.. the lasagne was prerty poor and there was a shortage of mince in there.. needed a magnifying glass to find it.. the fish had a crispy batter and was enjoyable... the childrens meals were ok but a littl cold... half hour after our mains our table hadnt been cleared so my son went up to the waitress who was serving our table and asked could we order some desserts... which we did... they took about 20 minutes to come... they was onli ice cream so we couldnt really see how they tool so long as by this time the restaurant was less than half full... i have to say that the staff that served us at the table and at the bar were all.very friendly and polite... this is not a review about any of them.. this review would be for kitchen staff and managers... this time scale needs to.be sorted out.. 2 and a half hours we were at this pub just waiting for and eating our food.. shambles... when half of the pub was empty this is totally unacceptable.. the food wasnt to bad at all... but the time we all.waited we were all ready just to walk out which we would have done if another 5 minutes had passed... could be a nice little restaurant if these waiting times are cut substantially

Fantastic food, great service. We were in a rush and the staff done all they could to help. Not one for taking good photos, but the aubergine bake was immense!

Popped in for a meal noticed changed name to king brychan, ordered mixed grill and sirloin steak which took a while to come out thought it is ok as me and my wife were chatting anyway when meals came out all looked ok chips were nice the sirloin steak was slightly underdone for my wife but reasonable mixed grill chips nice two fried eggs nice pork chop no flavour chicken breast it was hidden by my eggs it must have come from a sparrows chest no flavour was like rubber tiny gammon steak completely dried out must have covered in salt to add some flavour awful then the tiny steak no flavour full of fat and gristle could not eat complained to staff but told they are sorry but its very busy in kitchen i did say not really good enough was then told there is MacDonald across the road try there instead then was asked to leave so left and will never go back again i would rather the dog mess which was outside the door than eat in there again avoid the place if you want a good meal try the McDonald's as the young girl said

seems to me this place has lost its customer satisfaction targets. been in this place over the last 17 yrs visiting family friends etc from up north never had any problems good food selection, felt very comfortable, value for money. visited today had the carvery was terrible, roast potatoes were like conkers,meat was really rationed,carrots were like poker chips,gravy mint sauce apple sauce tasteless, all served on cold plates with lukewarm food.wont visit this pub again felt like a cafe, staff lovely harvester on next visit.

We are local people who often pop into the old Dragon Fly for a drink and occasional snack.We know the front of house staff well and they are really hardworking people. We were excited to view the revamp.First meal there three weeks ago was good except for one carvery meal which was lukewarm Visited the next week for a snack during half term which was a disaster.Not enough staff on duty ie 4 one of which was taken out to conduct her appraisal on the next table to us which is highly unprofessional and lacked confidentiality After 90 min wait for snack had a refundWent today lunchtime to meet family.Only two meats on carvery that quickly reduced to one and people complaining that that food was coldOpted for the normal menu instead of planned carvery and food was acceptable However several other customers were sending meals back with complaints about under/ overcooked meals and the front of house were dealing really well with the issues but feel totally sorry for them to have to take the brunt of customers frustration Kitchen chefs need more training as visually food shouldn't leave them for their fellow colleagues to pick up the complaintsIf it doesn't look right don't serve itViewed Simon Amanda and Hayley working under extreme pressure which they did admirably

went to the newly opened place today sun 3rd march . very disappointed sweet potatoes cold and selection of filled yorkshire puddings was tasteless and without spring onions as stated and nothing like a taco as advertised was a big let down I won't be going back in a hurry. bring back the dragonfly!!!

I always had a high regard for the Dragonfly pub. We’ve been coming back again and again for the last 8+ years. OK, it had its foibles, - the light in the gents was either broken or dangling from the ceiling, - the children’s play area which, over time, had become more of an ‘area where kids play’ was becoming a bit tired. I must stress though, the kids’ area was functional. You could see your kids playing whilst sat at many of the tables in the pub. You could happily enjoy a beverage prior to commencement of food and simultaneously keep one eye on your happy child without any fear of raising suspicions with the authorities… The Dragonfly had table service, seemingly happy staff, an interesting specials board and the pizza kitchen.A pub that makes its own pizzas was a pretty unique selling point. Some of the best pizzas I’ve ever tasted have come from the Dragonfly. Our 5 year old has subsequently developed an addiction to pepperoni pizza triggered after receiving a ‘proper’ pizza presented on a slate and with his own pizza cutter at this very same pub. My first experience of a ‘sweet’ calzone pizza served as a pudding was here and it was something I dreamed of prior to any return visit to the establishment. On our latest stay in Merthyr, we’ve discovered that the Dragonfly has fluttered away and King Brychan has assumed reign. The bulb in the gents is now fixed and the indoor kid’s area has disappeared. The pizza kitchen is no more, King Brychan no longer has a unique selling point, no specials board and we now had a carvery! – WHY? You can get a carvery almost anywhere!To give you an idea of the Marstons carvery experience, think Ryanair… You get a great headline price, you see this array of foodstuffs on display but when you get to the servery, you discover that a sausage is extra, you have to beg to be given a Yorkshire pudding, several foods are on display but with nothing available for you to pick them up in order to put them on your plate. Maybe next year the prices will drop further and the plate becomes an optional extra?On the subject of Yorkshire puddings, mine was not up to much. Frankly, it had the consistency of a poppadum which may or may not be coincidental given that it was curry night.The table service has disappeared. Instead I paid at the bar and before I had got back to my seat, my wife was being quizzed by a staff member to check whether my order was correct. – Do they really have no faith in their ordering systems or their customers’ ability to decide what they want to eat?? Seemed very odd to me!The serving process was rather an experience. We had the manager hovering behind the guy carving the meat ripping every plate out of his hands in order to weigh it… It really does not give a good impression. If it is important that every portion is a specific size, then why not tell the customer what they are supposedly entitled to. To be honest, I doubt many customers care as long as the meat covers a good chunk of the plate. If the revenue generated per ounce of meat is that important to Marstons I’m sure you could retrospectively work out how many covers they got from the joint without turning the serving process into a farce.The food was ‘ok’, the meat nice but as with a lot of carveries, the veg was not up to much. The veg at the Dragonfly was always much better and had presumably not been left to fester on display for so long. The roast potatoes were really poor, not dissimilar to Scandinavian pine in texture. Couldn’t say much more as the IKEA logo had been peeled off.After a trek back to the bar in order to obtain pudding I was unfortunate to witness the poor staff member struggling to find a particular kids pudding on the till. In the background, again, the manager was hovering. This time he physically said to me “she doesn’t know what she’s doing” or words to that effect. If I was the employee, I would have been livid. For a manager to tell a customer that their employee does not know what they are doing is outrageous!We now have a shiny sign outside stating ‘garden’… Well garden is over egging it a bit. If this is the Marsons definition of a garden, then the roundabout at the entrance up near the Harvester is clearly a country park. Let’s be clear, it’s a scrap of land nestled on the edge of a large car park with all the noises and smells of cars to enhance your experience. Part of the so called garden is the new kids play area. An area which may be useful in the summer, as long as it’s not raining… It may suit the really small ones and being outside, it’s much harder to enjoy a bevvy or snack and also keep an eye on your child. Hmmm, another bad choice in my humble opinion.So, in short, Marstons seem to have tarted up the Dragonfly, ditched half the staff, removed the unique selling point (the pizzas), moved the kids outside, added a mediocre carvery, and abandoned the specials… If I was up in head office, I’d have kept the pizzas, fixed the light in the gents and maybe given the indoor kids area a lick of paint. It would have cost a tenth the price and at least you still would have had a nice place to go. Oops!

I always went to the dragon fly before it changed

A family of 4 adults and two children visited 5pm Tuesday. Met by a family on their way out telling us to forget it, they were told it was an hour wait for food and after an hour and a half questioned where their food was to be told the kitchen had lost their order. There were only 12 other diners there but tables were dirty and we were informed that meals would be one hour thirty minutes from the kitchen receiving our order unless we had the carvery. We visited the artery to see what was on offer. It was disappointing. The carvery looked as if it had been on display for a while. We ended up leaving and going to the Harvester.....a much better option by far!!

Worst carvery i have ever seen rock hard tasteless spuds it was freezing cold so i asked them to put it in the microwave which in all fairness they did but it was that bad i couldnt eat it

Great food great service great value only just opened and found staff great only issue is some of the customers moaning what do you expect for the good deals on meals if you want 5star service and food go to a high end restaurant highly recommended 10/10 from me and my family

I've visited here a number of times. Pleasant environment, easy access from A470. The food is very good value and the portion size is good. Service was fine.

Called in for supper on a super cold night while staying next door at the Travelodge. Staff was friendly and warm. prompt service and well priced food. I ordered the curry which was very good and a good sized portion. Will certainly call again.

Visited for a quick bite to eat one afternoon during the week whilst visiting a relative at the local hospital.

Was staying at hotel next door but was worried after reading a few negative reviews. Terrible weather made this the easiest option & one we didn’t regret. With no reservation we were initially told we would have to wait 45 minutes (& the place was full on a Saturday evening). We settled down with a drink to wait but were quickly told that a table had come free and was ready if we wanted. We took our drinks over & were then treated brilliantly by the table staff. The food was good & plentiful but it was the service that stood out. Looks like the place is getting a re-furb in February so it just gets better.

Ate here twice as we had 40% off vouchers and were staying nearby. On both occasions the food was not hot, we had to send one dish back as it was cold (lamb shank). The fish was hot but the chips and peas cold. Food not to a good quality for the price. Staff were very helpful and friendly and could not be faulted. Hopefully after its imminent refurbishment things will improve as this is a well situated establishment with good staff.

The price even two for one was expensive the you have poor quality and minute quantity this is not a place to recommend. Don't stop here go else where there must be more than this in Merthyr Tydfil. Staying at the travel lodge it may be convenient but you will be disappointed and hungry

Came here tonight for 41st wedding anniversary dinner. Ordered Cajun chicken special, which I always have at Marston's. This time I think they must have emptied a whole bottle of cajun seasoning over my chicken making it inedible - and the chips were cold when they arrived!only one waitress serving and not very helpful. Happy anniversary, not!!!

Bit of mixed reviews good and bad, been too under new management and was a lot better. Always stay next door to see family so will give this place another go

Cheap and cheerful. Ok the food is not to bad and the price is cheap however the staff are friendly and the service is good ok for a quick spot of lunch

waited 25 minutes to get served had to ask the waitress to come over to the table and a further 15 minutes for drinks as they were just waiting in the bar. Food finally arrived and the waitress assumed it was a beef burger but we ordered a chicken burger portions were half the size of the Red Kite very poor

Took the family for a meal to the dragon fly. Order 1 chicken tikka masala, 1 four cheese pizza, 1 cheese garlic pizza and 1 little margarita pizza. Curry was lovely if a little water but tasted as it should. All 3 pizzas where smothered in cheese. To the point my husband couldn't find the bread. My son who loves pizza ate less than half and prodded and poked the rest. All in all 2 out of 3 of us went hungry. I recommend eat anything else just not the pizza!

First, and probably last, visit to this pub. Only visited because of it's locality to the Travelodge.

I had veggie lasagne. It was very dry and quite brown. No lovely red tomato sauce or oozing cheese topping here. I wanted to order a hot chocolate after my meal. The waitress told me not to bother as it came out like water and wasn't very nice. So I didn't bother. On the whole, quite disappointing.

Absolute shambles!! Were told there was 1/2hr wait for a table but not that we would have to wait a further 45mins for food to arrive which then turned up cold, curry sauce which came with the mega fish and chips was like dish water, onion rings were totally cold, my sons sirloin steak was 50% fat and the piece of fish was mostly batter.

I come here often and the food is ok, pay for what you get.

The restaurant was very busy with up to a 40 minute wait (wasn't that long), we had a drink. Our server was on the ball and made sure we had all we needed. The only thing wrong was I ordered scamp & rump - but never got the scamp. However, I enjoyed my steak so much I had almost finished my meal before I even realised. Our server was mortified & offered to amend our bill, but I wasn't complaining to complain, I couldn't stop laughing at how twp I was not to have noticed. Well worth a visit, we always have good food.

Visited here once. You're staff member sara I think she is called was very rude and a simple smile or even to look a bit more presentable would be a bit nicer. Not that you've been out all night drinking. Food was greasy and just a mess on the plate. Weird because the other chain of Marston's pubs or restaurants are all amazing. What a shame

After waiting 25mins waiting for anyone to come and take our food/drink order we eventually got served but had to then wait over an hour for food to come. No one come to see if our food was okay, we asked for butter that never came. We then tried to complain but the waitress was very rude and reluctant to apologised. Total disaster from start to finish and the pub wasn’t even busy. Very disappointed!

Visited for lunch and served by Amanda who was friendly and helpful throughout. Enjoyed the meal although the mustard was not really up to scratch

We have not been here for a while, but needless to say, we had a lovely experience. Amanda was very helpful. She made sure everything was just right. (Also, Amanda ... your hair looks great, shame your hubby didn't notice LOL. )

Amazing food served up for me and the wife today. I can't praise the service of the bar staff as well. The welcoming you have and the service you receive is second to none. Simon is so polite and charming. Well worth coming again.

A little trip out shopping and a fancy a roast lunch...i probably could have made it home quicker and cooked one...not sure what i was expecting really but at £15 a dam sight more than i got even if it was buy one get one free, three frozen roast potatoes small... a dollop of smash... a frozen yorkshire.. carrots peas 1 slice of meat...all served cold and tasteless they bloody saw us coming

After hving a nice meal I visited the toilets in which there must ov been a inch thick ov dust on every ledge. there was toilet cleaner around the rim of the toilet but the toilet it self couldn't hve been cleaned has there was all marks still on the toilet

Fantastic food , excellent service. A special mention to our very helpful server , Amanda who could not do enough to ensure our visit was an enjoyable one . Definitely be returning.

Well it's gone from myself experiencing very tough chicken on the smothered chicken dish that i even requested a steak knife to attempt to cut it, to also my child not even receiving her food at all however they still attempted to charge me for it!. I arrived here a few weeks ago to be informed by the door that its a hour wait on food and half hour wait on a table so from this i figured things have improved significantly for there to be that much demand in the establishment. I returned mid week for a spot of lunch. Smothered chicken again with barbecue sauce, i thoroughly enjoyed every last bit of it, chicken was moist plenty of barbecue sauce the bacon and cheese glued together which i adore on a dish like this. The guy serving us was very polite, smile on his face, didn't get his name, bald guy quite short mid 30's. I've seen him there a few times last year even and he seemed miserable back then if I'm honest so to have the pleasure of his company with us this time was really nice to see!. He was very attentive to my little one and that's always a plus in my book ! My partner had the spicy burger the meat of the burger was much better quality than back previously. Overall I'm glad they've improved the food, dining experience as we were served quickly, and the customer service ! we shall be back and thank you.

It is in a very convenient location right next to the Travelodge hotel and the staff were excellent. On my first night I had already taken dinner so just had a couple of beers and the staff were friendly and attentive throughout the evening. The next day was heavy rain so I decided to take my dinner there and I was expecting the same as other pubs in Merthyr but was left disappointed. The portion was much smaller than I expected and the food was only warm but the price was the same as other pubs. Flavour was also not as I expected for "home cooked food" as it tasted a little bit like "out of a jar" but this was the only downside so for the remainder of my visit I still had a couple of late night beers.

Staying night on way through, just a short walk from the hotel. Great and friendly service, good food and drink. Just the place for the weary traveler.

Stayed at the nearby Travelodge for a few days so used The Dragonfly every day for drinks and / or evening meal. The pub serves good food, reasonably priced, especially with the two for one deal on mains. Great menu range, including freshly made pizzas, normal pub classics and some more exotic dishes. As it's a Marstons pub it also provides a Vegan menu.

We stopped off here after a day in Brecon Beacons. Two mains for the price of one. The place was heaving. I can see why- really good good and efficient service from all the staff. Would definitely return.

Stopped for food at the Dragonfly after visiting Trago Mills. There was an offer on for buy 1 meal get 1 free which was excellent. We all had different meals which were all very tasty with big portions. The service was first class from the very friendly staff.

Great place for bite n drinks. Friendly and professional staff who make you feel welcome and want to come back. Food is good pub grub with lots of choice and fresh cooked pizza. Been here lots and always good. Spot on!

We had a chicken stack burger, soya veggie burger and children's chicken burger! Great food (two for one on adult meals). Our server, Sara, was excellent!!! Quick tuen around and one of the best veggie burgers around!

The dragonfly has an amazing menu and specials board but the afternoon staff is short the last time we were there a coach trip came and the poor girl was taking orders getting drinks and clearing tables she done well to me but there were some people muttering about how slow she was

Always plenty of choice as there is a specials board as well as normal menu and a separate pizza area.Plenty of space and childrens play area is near the toilets,Have always had a good meal but waiting times can vary on how busy they are.l

It’s a lovely place to eat, although it’s getting more popular and the wait for food can be 45 minutes, just too long. The food is always great, and they do 2 meals for the price of one. The staff are polite and helpful.

Food was lovely again. Went once this week with children and food was fab and excellent prices. Went again then me and my partner and food was delicious. We did have to wait an hour but once mentioned to staff we were offered free drinks and desserts. Food is always fresh and hot and very tasty. Great place.

What can I say awesome service from Adele from start to finish. Food was yet again out of this world top marks for all the kitchen staff who work very hard.

Spur of the moment shopping trip. Decided to lunch out. What a good decision,pleasent staff very helpful good presentation, lovely meal.Well worth another visit.

I had a Sunday lunch here. The staff were friendly but the ordering system appeared to be a little disjointed. The food was ok. Not enough veg and a bit ordinary. Saying that, it wasn’t expensive and served the purpose.

I have visited this place a few times and the menu could do with a re vamp. The food is good but some new items in the menu would be welcome. The special board was not so special on my visit. I would give it another go when next in the area. Prices are very good and staff excellent.

The service my friends and I received was poor. The delivery of food was diabolical as it took over an hour to receive our main! Only when questioning the staff the food was delivered and at that point you’d expect it to be at a somewhat decent standard, however, this was not the case. Some of the food was cold, almost as if it had been sitting there for 15 minutes after preparation and the roast dinner tasted as if it was ready to serve hours earlier and then re-heated in a microwave, horrific! Finally, to top it all off, there were items missing from our meals. I will definitely not be recommending this establishment to my friends and/or family!

Called in to meet up with friends. You get what you pay for i suppose, don't think the staff like their jobs a lot mind!! The food is cheap but they make up for it with the price on the drinks.

My wife and I ate her whilst visiting the area. We had steaks and both were very good and reasonably priced. Drinks were good especially the 61 Deep beer. The staff were friendly and all in all we enjoyed our food.

staff helpful and good service . The food arrived I had ordered fish and chips which was over £12.00. The meal arrived overdone and the fish curled to a U shape lying beside 12 chips and a dollop of mushy peas. Looked really awful ... but tasted ok .

Been here many of times,we have always recieved good fast service and lovely food. Nice place for food or just a relaxing drink outside.

Under and poorly trained staff, dreadful meal, drinks order forgotten about, no signs of leadership, run out of glasses when pub was half full.

Called in for an afternoon beverage today as it was very hot and we had been shopping so a Larger / Large wine was required ..Very busy with strangers due to the Music venue being held in the Park ....And fair play to the Manager they accommodated for this ...Every table was full , inside and outside , it was heaving , 8 deep at the bar where I was and only one Barmaid serving ..."Really " Her name was Sara and she did a fantastic job , she knew who was next , who to serve etc , she was not flustered at all ..a credit to the establishment ..Being in business I would definitely employ her ! However where is their business acumen .People do not like waiting 10 minutes stood at a bar for a drink ..Marstons don't deserve the business they have as their managers couldn't run a bath ..However nice larger , lovely Sara , just require more bar staff ..

This place has gone rapidly down hill, not that it was ever amazing, this was the first time I have had to complain and be refunded, dry, re cooked days old chips, dry chicken with burnt bacon.

We had not eaten here for quite a while as it had started to go down hill but as we had an hour to kill before a hospital visit we thought we would try it again. This will definitely be the last time we go there as the food was awful. My husband had Hawaiian gammon which wasn’t very big and came with only a handful of chips which were only Luke warm and most of the plate was filled with a mixed leaf salad which looked like it had just been thrown on the plate out of a bag, no presentation whatsoever. I had steak which was quite chewy although the flavour was ok and my jacket potato was fine but the peas were inedible, very strange colour as if they had been overcooked or had been standing in water for ages and had a metallic taste to them. Only realised this place now has a 1 rating by environmental health or we wouldn’t have gone in. Only thing good about it is the waiting staff are really nice.

I took my mother in law out for lunch on 31st July, we both ordered sirloin steaks which were inedible. I complained that my Mother in law couldn’t cut hers with the steak knife and another steak was promised. After what felt like an eternity another steak meal was brought out. This was exactly the same. They obviously have a very bad batch of steaks. They could see how much of the meals were untouched but really couldn’t be less interested.

Called here for lunch late afternoon, staff were welcoming, we were informed of their two for one event when given the menus. Two starters, two steaks, two pints and a bottomless soft drink for £31.

Visited here as we were visiting family in Wales. As we drove onto the car park there was a large choice of eating establishments but decided on the Dragonfly as we often us Marstons pubs and usually find them great. However we were disgusted by our visit here. We were seated next to the children's play area which we thought would be ideal as we had our 3 year old son with us. The children's area was dirty and run down and I wasn't happy to let him play here it was so filthy. Where we were sat the wallpaper was covered in food,drink and God knows what else. It was disgusting. When the food came out (we ordered burgers) the burgers were overcooked and dried out and the chips were cold. Come on Marstons sort this out. Very very poor.

My daughter, age 24, stopped at The Dragonfly last night for a drink. She went to the bar and was next in line to be served. A number of older men came in and the young bar man, about the same age as my daughter or younger, continually ignored her and continued serving all the older men who clearly arrived after her. More people arrived and they were also served. She left, without a drink, and went to Frankie and Bennys. She was served immediately.......

I haven't been to the restaurant in years and couldn't believe how downhill it has become. We visited midweek during the lunch period. It was quiet and we told where to go sit. Even though the restaurant was dead the staff seemed rushed off their feet and the next 6 or 7 groups of people were turned away which was shocking considering the amount of free tables.

We called in for lunch and my wife had a steak which she said was ok and I ordered the Beef Tagliatelle off the daily menu which was basically a dollop of mush with luke warm dried up pasta and some sort of something or other with it and a sorry looking side salad which I didn't eat at all I think the worrying thing is the Chef allowed this food to be served.

What can I say awesome service of the wonderful Hope nothing is ever to much for her and always has a smile on her face. I also need to say what a wonderful job the chef did with my meal I really think that they need some well deserved praise doing the job the do in a boiling kitchen when we a sat relaxing and everything so wonderfully done thank you

There is nothing special about the Dragonfly pub. But nothing to bad either. The young staff were pleasant and hard working , barman the same. Food ok, no complaints. These chain of pubs like Wetherspoons etc, your never going to get great food. But it is what it is. There just ok sort of places.

First time visiting this restaurant. Very, very slow service with lower than expected quality of food. Expensive for lunchtime foods if unable to order two for one ( we were an odd number). Will not rush back.

Stayed the night in the travelodge and decided to pop in here for a meal, glad I did as the steak was stunning!

always seem to give this place a second chance, but alas its never going to make it in my book, each to their own

We always enjoy going to the Dragonfly, finding the welcome we have first class. The staff are tremendous with Amanda and Kim leading the way. The service we receive is excellent and the meals are always good and tremendous value.

I haven't been here for a while and in the past have enjoyed my visits. Unfortunately today was not one of them. The staff have no idea of customer service. the cutlery was dirty and the food itself was at best adequate. on the positive side there was a good choice and the two for one is good value.

I attended the dragon fly on Tuesday day time and the service was amazing, the individual who was serving us went above and beyond with her efforts.

I came here with a friend for food to be given the wrong starter, to have to wait another 20 mins for the right one. It finally came without the sauce to wait for another 10 mins for the sauce. Then to be rushed because our main was ready! Then when the food came it wasn't as described in the menu very disappointed. The only thing that they had right was the drinks order!

excellent customer service food ok for what you pay had a issue which was quickly resolved by our waitress Alex thank you for not making a fuss

Unfortunately I can’t score less than one star, absolutely appalling visit, we came bank holiday 28/5/18 (we know bank holidays are busy so we got there early) we were seated at 11:50am in the family area right next to the servers till, it took an age to finally order as all the staff were huddled having a proper moaning session I can only assume it was the manager who had a go at one of the girls complaining telling we she’s in the wrong area and needs to be in zone 1, the 4 girls then continued to moan complaining that the manager was still drunk from the night before even tho she claims she only had a couple.... after 30 mins the table next to us asked how much longer their food was going to be as we were literally the first 2 tables in there to be told there was a 40 minute wait on food all day as most of the staff were off sick.... great a further 20 minutes went past when another member of staff approached our waitress and told her that they had been told to stop taking orders??? Really!!!! The food arrived at 13:15 (85 mins from sitting to finally getting our meals) and it was barely edible two mixed grills supposedly well done, my steak was still mooing! Completely disappointed!

Visited here on Monday 28th May, we were told there would be an hour wait for food which was reasonable as it was a sunny bank holiday Monday. We sat down and were promptly asked for our orders. As we were waiting for our food there was another couple seated next to us who were eating their food and then complained that the food was in their words ‘crap’ however, I cannot disagree more! The food we received which was a 10oz gammon and a fish and chips, was delicious and the portion sizes were perfect, you can’t go wrong when there is the offer of 2 for 1 on all main courses. We also ordered dessert which again was delicious. Our waitress Sara S was lovely and could not have done more for us. Thank you, we will be returning.

Brilliant service from Victoria, literally went above and beyond making sure everyone in her section was happy. Every pub/restaurant needs someone as happy and friendly as her😁 Food standard is fab, real value for money 👌

As a support worker, my colleagues and myself came here for lunch with the people we support. We managed to get a great spot under the gazebo, on such a beautiful day, it was ideal. Various meals were ordered, sausage and mash, hunters chicken, steak in ale pie to name a few, all our meals were brought to our table in a reasonable time by a friendly, polite waitress and the meals were all perfectly cooked, mine was very tasty. A perfect afternoon was had by all. Thanks to all the team for making our afternoon pleasant. Alun.

Awful food scampi was over cooked with about 10 chips and the garlic dough balls don't think they even botherd cooking them 🤢

What a nice surprise chloe took me out to lunch and we went to the Dragon fly. What a amazing experience I had off Mike he was very attentive and polite made sure we had all that we needed. On the experience he give me alone I will definitely be a returning customer

Came here today with my friend around 2ish (table 35) I never listen to reviews about places and prefer to try them before judging so after some retail therapy at Merthyr retail park, we decided to go for lunch. Glad we did the service and the food was excellent from start to finish, and the 2 for 1 worked out cheap too. I had the bacon and brie burger and my friend had the smothered chicken, the food was cooked to perfection, nothing at all to whinge about. We decided to have desserts my eyes are bigger than my belly, I had the red velvet and white chocolate cheesecake with ice cream, OMG it was amazing but I couldn't finish it even the manager I can only assume said aren't you going to finish it I was too full. Will definitely visit this restaurant again as we both throughly enjoyed. Thumbs up to you 5*
